  • Are "proxy properties" good style?

    - by erlando
I have a class with a string property that's actually several strings joined with a separator. I'm wondering if it is good form to have a proxy property like this: public string ActualProperty { get { return actualProperty; } set { actualProperty = value; } } public string[] IndividualStrings { get { return ActualProperty.Split(.....); } set { // join strings from array in propval .... ; ActualProperty = propval; } } Is there any risks I have overlooked?

  • Dealing with wacky encodings in Python

    - by Tyson
I have a Python script that pulls in data from many sources (databases, files, etc.). Supposedly, all the strings are unicode, but what I end up getting is any variation on the following theme (as returned by repr()): u'D\\xc3\\xa9cor' u'D\xc3\xa9cor' 'D\\xc3\\xa9cor' 'D\xc3\xa9cor' Is there a reliable way to take any four of the above strings and return the proper unicode string? u'D\xe9cor' # --> Décor The only way I can think of right now uses eval(), replace(), and a deep, burning shame that will never wash away.

  • Problem with \' in URLencoding

    - by Bruce
I am working on Java. Here is my code response = URLEncoder.encode(response, "UTF-8").replaceAll("\\+", "%20"); Problem comes when there is a ' (single quote) in the string response. It gets encoded to \'. eg - 'Collective Dynamics of Complex Networks' comes as \'Collective Dynamics of Complex Networks\' I want it to remain as it is. What should I do?

  • Matching 'weird' characters in PHP regex

    - by Bill X
I have some strings that need a-strippin': ÃœT: 9.996636,76.294363 Tons of long strings of location codes. A literal regex in PHP won't match them, IE $pattern = /ÃœT:/; echo preg_replace($pattern, "", $row['location']); Won't match/strip anything. (To know it's working, /T:/ does strip the last bit of that string). What's the encoding error doing on here? Alternately, I would accept a concise way to take out just the numbers.

  • Calling a function within a class

    - by JM4
    I am having trouble calling a specific function within a class. The call is made: case "Mod10": if (!validateCreditCard($fields[$field_name])) $errors[] = $error_message; break; and the class code is: class CreditCardValidationSolution { var $CCVSNumber = ''; var $CCVSNumberLeft = ''; var $CCVSNumberRight = ''; var $CCVSType = ''; var $CCVSError = ''; function validateCreditCard($Number) { $this->CCVSNumber = ''; $this->CCVSNumberLeft = ''; $this->CCVSNumberRight = ''; $this->CCVSType = ''; $this->CCVSError = ''; // Catch malformed input. if (empty($Number) || !is_string($Number)) { $this->CCVSError = $CCVSErrNumberString; return FALSE; } // Ensure number doesn't overrun. $Number = substr($Number, 0, 20); // Remove non-numeric characters. $this->CCVSNumber = preg_replace('/[^0-9]/', '', $Number); // Set up variables. $this->CCVSNumberLeft = substr($this->CCVSNumber, 0, 4); $this->CCVSNumberRight = substr($this->CCVSNumber, -4); $NumberLength = strlen($this->CCVSNumber); $DoChecksum = 'Y'; // Mod10 checksum process... if ($DoChecksum == 'Y') { $Checksum = 0; // Add even digits in even length strings or odd digits in odd length strings. for ($Location = 1 - ($NumberLength % 2); $Location < $NumberLength; $Location += 2) { $Checksum += substr($this->CCVSNumber, $Location, 1); } // Analyze odd digits in even length strings or even digits in odd length strings. for ($Location = ($NumberLength % 2); $Location < $NumberLength; $Location += 2) { $Digit = substr($this->CCVSNumber, $Location, 1) * 2; if ($Digit < 10) { $Checksum += $Digit; } else { $Checksum += $Digit - 9; } } // Checksums not divisible by 10 are bad. if ($Checksum % 10 != 0) { $this->CCVSError = $CCVSErrChecksum; return FALSE; } } return TRUE; } } When I run the application - I get the following message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function validateCreditCard() in C:\xampp\htdocs\validation.php on line 339 any ideas?

  • jQuery UI datepicker customization

    - by Chad
I have the jQuery datepicker working, but I need to be able to select more than just dates. I need to be able to select between some strings as well "Yesterday" and "Today" to be precise. So, the underlying input can contain any date as well as the strings "Yesterday" or "Today". Is there some way I can do this by tweaking the existing jQuery UI datepicker?

  • Base 62 conversion in Python

    - by mikl
How would you convert an integer to base 62 (like hexadecimal, but with these digits: '0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ'). I have been trying to find a good Python library for it, but they all seems to be occupied with converting strings. The Python base64 module only accepts strings and turns a single digit into four characters. I was looking for something akin to what URL shorteners use.

  • Regular Expression :match string containing only non repeating words

    - by nash
I have this situation(Java code): 1) a string such as : "A wild adventure" should match. 2) a string with adjacent repeated words: "A wild wild adventure" shouldn't match. With this regular expression: .* \b(\w+)\b\s*\1\b.* i can match strings containing adjacent repeated words. How to reverse the situation i.e how to match strings which do not contain adjacent repeat words

  • excel sum if string

    - by user1834348
I have table similar to this: 102938 bob 038128 Marc 398401 Tom 298421 Jim 102938 Alex 102938 Junior 209381 Rex 398401 Oby I want to make sometthing like =sumif(A:A, 102938,B:B) and to get "bobAlexJunior" as result. But this is not working becouse sum works with numbers not strings. If i go with lookup, it works with strings but finds only first line, not all lines. Do you have an Idea on how to fix this issue? Thanx

  • CRC function without order dependency

    - by Pirks
I need a CRC mechanism to calculate the CRC of a number of strings, such that, given two strings, A and B, the sum crc(A) + crc(B) == crc(A+B). P.S. XOR is too weak---the algorithm should be not trivial for reverse engineering.

  • Add string to another string

    - by daemonfire300
Hi there, I currently encountered a problem: I want to handle adding strings to other strings very efficiently, so I looked up many methods and techniques, and I figured the "fastest" method. But I quite can not understand how it actually works: def method6(): return ''.join([`num` for num in xrange(loop_count)]) From source (Method 6) Especially the ([numfor num in xrange(loop_count)]) confused me totally.

  • Creating a small encrypted string in PHP

    - by JustJon
I am looking to create a small encrypted string, like the referral strings used by Twitpic or bit.ly, for a website I am working on for referral purposes. Any of the built-in functions like MD5 and mcrypt each make strings that are too long for my purposes. Is there an easy way to create a string like this? Thanks.

  • SSIS Null Value Questions

    - by Saobi
I have a table with 5 string columns, all can be NULLs. After I read the data from this table, I want to convert any null values into empty strings. The reason is that I need to compare these columns with columns in another table of the same schema (using conditional split), and null values would cause the comparison to evaluate to NULL. Is there any functionality in SSIS that allows me to convert NULL's to empty strings, or just not having to deal with NULL's at all?

  • what does a tool like Jasper Reports give me?

    - by Itay Moav
Ok, So I have to generate very complex reports from my DB. If I am to do it with SQL the query themselves will be complex, and I will have to do some more manipulation on the results later, code level. How do libraries like Jasper Reports/ Crystal Reports and friends save me time when developing such reports? What will they give me?

  • Having two sets of input combined on hadoop

    - by aeolist
I have a rather simple hadoop question which i'll try to present with an example say you have a list of strings and a large file and you want each mapper to process a piece of the file and one of the strings in a grep like program. how are you supposed to do that? I am under the impression that the number of mappers is a result of the inputsplits produced. I could run subsequent jobs, one for each string, but it seems kinda... messy?
