• Call function based off of a string in Lisp

  I am passing in command line arguments to my Lisp program and they are formatted like this when they hit my main function: ("1 1 1" "dot" "2 2 2") I have a dot function and would like to call it directly from the argument, but this isn't possible because something like (funcall (second args)...) receives "dot" and not dot as the function name. I tried variations of this function: (defun remove-quotes (s) (setf (aref s 0) '"")) to no avail, before realizing that the quotes were not really a part of the string. Is there a simple way to do this, or should I just check each string and then call the appropriate function? Thanks!

• Write a recursive function in C that converts a number into a string

  I'm studying software engineering, and came across this exercise: it asks to write a recursive function in C language that receives a positive integer and an empty string, and "translates" the number into a string. Meaning that after calling the function, the string we sent would contain the number but as a string of its digits. I wrote this function, but when I tried printing the string, it did print the number I sent, but in reverse. This is the function: void strnum(int n, char *str) { if(n) { strnum(n/10, str+1); *str = n%10 + '0'; } } For example, I sent the number 123 on function call, and the output was 321 instead of 123. I also tried exchanging the two lines within the if statement, and it still does the same. I can't figure out what I did wrong. Can someone help please? NOTE: Use of while and for loop statements is not allowed for the exercise.

• When using out parameters in a function, is it good practice to initialize them in the function?

  I have a function that uses out parameters to return multiple values to the caller. I would like to initialize them in the function, but I wasn't sure if that's a bad idea since you don't know when you call the function that it's going to change the values right away. The caller might assume that after the function returns, if whatever it was doing didn't work, the values would be whatever they were initialized to in the caller. Is it ok / good for me to initialize in the function? The function fails when I include the fourth parameter (where clause). When I remove this fourth parameter, the function just works fine.   I am looking for some help with a VBA solution for preserving hyperlinks when using VLOOKUP on Excel (2010). I have a load of data on Sheet 1 for internal use only, and a cut-down version of this on Sheet 2. Instead of recreating Sheet 2 everytime, I am looking to have a working version which updates everytime Sheet1 is updated. Thus, I have used VLOOKUP on Sheet 2 so that only the desired info is returned on sheet 2. However, the problem was that sheet 1 contained in many cells Hyperlinks to external websites, and this would not pull through to Sheet2 using VLOOKUP. With some help, however, using the following VBA solution the hyperlinks now pull through: Function GetHyperLink(r As Range) As String If r.Hyperlinks.Count Then GetHyperLink = r.Hyperlinks(1).Address End If End Function And I am using the following formula in the relevant cell(s) in Sheet2: =HYPERLINK(GetHyperLink(INDEX('Sheet 1'!$B$1:$B$10001,MATCH(A4,'Sheet 1'!$A$1:$A$10001,0))),(VLOOKUP(A4,'Sheet 1'!$A$1:$B$10001,2,FALSE))) However, the problem is with formatting: every cell on Sheet2 is formatted blue and underlined, even although some of them do not contain a hyperlink! • Template compiling errors on iPhone SDK 3.2

  I'm porting over some templated code from Windows and I'm hitting some compiler differences on the iPhone 3.2 SDK. Original code inside a class template's member function is: return BinarySearch<uint32, CSimpleKey<T> >(key); where BinarySearch is a method inherited from another template. This produces the following error: csimplekeytable.h:131: error: no matching function for call to 'BinarySearch(NEngine::uint32&)' The visual studio compiler seems to walk up the template hierarchy fine but gcc needs me to fully qualify where the function comes from (I have verified this by fixing the same issues with template member variables that way). So I now need to change this into: return CSimpleTable<CSimpleKey<T> >::BinarySearch<uint32, CSimpleKey<T> >(key); Which now produces the following error: csimplekeytable.h:132: error: expected primary-expression before ',' token csimplekeytable.h:132: error: expected primary-expression before '>' token After some head scratching, I believe what's going on here is that it's trying to resolve the '<' before BinarySearch as a 'Less Than' operator for some reason. So two questions: - Am I on the right path with my interpretation of the error? - How do I fix it? -D

  I've encountered some code which I think should compile, but doesn't. So I'm hoping some of the local standards experts here at SO can help :-). I have a class template (A) which has an internal class (U) and at least one member function which can return an instance of that internal class (f()). Then I am attempting to create an operator== function which compares this internal type to some other type (in this case an int, but it doesn't seem to matter). When USE_FIX is not defined I get the following error: test.cc: In function 'int main()': test.cc:27:25: error: no match for 'operator==' in 'a.A<T>::f [with T = int]() == 1' Which seems odd, because I am clearly (I think) defining a templated operator== which should cover this, in fact if I just do a little of the work for the compiler (enable USE_FIX), then I no longer get an error. Unfortunately, the "fix" doesn't work generically, only for a specific instantiation of the template. Is this supposed to work as I expected? Or is this simply not allowed? BTW: if it matters I am using gcc 4.5.2.

  Hello, I am using a customised version of search-theme-from.tpl When I use the search box, I do get transferred to the search page. But the search does not actually take place. The search box on the search results page does work though. • Firefox handles xxx.submit(), Safari doesn't ... what can be done?

  I'm trying to make a pull down menu post a form when the user selects (releases the mouse) on one of the options from the menu. This code works fine in FF but Safari, for some reason, doesn't submit the form. I re-wrote the code using jquery to see if jquery's .submit() implementation handled the browser quirks better. Same result, works in FF doesn't work in safari. The following snippets are from the same page, which has some django template language mixed in. • Problems Expanding an Array in C++

  I'm writing a simulation for class, and part of it involves the reproduction of organisms. My organisms are kept in an array, and I need to increase the size of the array when they reproduce. Because I have multiple classes for multiple organisms, I used a template: template <class orgType> void expandarray(orgType* oldarray, int& numitems, int reproductioncount) { orgType *newarray = new orgType[numitems+reproductioncount]; for (int i=0; i<numitems; i++) { newarray[i] = oldarray[i]; } numitems += reproductioncount; delete[] oldarray; oldarray = newarray; newarray = NULL; } However, this template seems to be somehow corrupting my data. I can run the program fine without reproduction (commenting out the calls to expandarray), but calling this function causes my program to crash. The program does not crash DURING the expandarray function, but crashes on access violation later on. I've written functions to expand an array hundreds of times, and I have no idea what I screwed up this time. Is there something blatantly wrong in my function? Does it look right to you? EDIT: Thanks for everyone's help. I can't believe I missed something so obvious. In response to using std::vector: we haven't discussed it in class yet, and as silly as it seems, I need to write code using the methods we've been taught.

  I don't understand templates really and was trying to run a simple find the minimum for ints, doubles, chars. First question, why is template<typename T> sometimes used, and other times template<>? I originally tried doing it that way instead of having it all in one file and I got some compile errors as well that I can't remember right now and was unsure how I would do that. Thanks!
