  • Disabling Keyboard Wakeup for Ubuntu 10.04 on Acer 1810TZ

    My Acer Aspire 1810TZ laptop suspends fine but wakes up on any slight key-press. I would like to disable this behaviour.   • Gnome keyboard shortcuts dysfunctional after waking up from sleep

    Hello, I am using Ubuntu 9.10 on my Thinkpad T61. Very often after the system woke up from sleep, all the gnome shortcuts went dead (no effect when key combinations pressed). Things like "Alt+F4, Alt+TAB" are dead; things like Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V are OK; buttons such as volume up/down also OK; I tried to Google for answers but wasn't lucky enough. Any idea how to solve it? Thanks! If it's not preventable, can I at least restore them without restarting the session?

  • USB-keyboard & mouse powered off in windows-7

    I have a problem with a pc where usb devices are not getting any power as soon as windows starts up (it works in preboot). This pc has no ps/2, so there is no chance for input, also not in secure boot mode. I "tidied up" using sysinternals autostart, so there is a chance I messed something up here, although I'm quite sure I only deleted some old printer drivers from autostart. I do not know how to reset this, I cant even log in because there is no input possible. I could use a linux live cd, but I don't know what to do there because there is no sysinternals from linux into a not running windows... To make things even worse, I have the windows installation completely encrypted with truecrypt, so I haven't even tried windows recovery cd yet. There is no loss of data since I can access the disc with a live-linux, I only want to use it again without resetting up everything. Any suggestions?

    I'm not sure if I worded the question correctly to be honest but basically what I want to do is: When a user types in something like Expenses in the URL bar of a browser, I want the browser to be directed to a specific web address (very very similar to how OpenDNS shortcuts work) The IP address of the web address will not change amongst the different 'shortcuts'... i.e: mycompany.com = 10.0.0.0 mycompany.com/expenses = 10.0.0.0 mycompany.com/tracker = 10.0.0.0 When a user types expenses in the browser address bar and presses enter, I want the browser to automatically direct to the specified address as above. Would this be tricky to implement? I hope I have put my question forward appropriately :-) Additional notes: We are on a Windows envionment I believe the exchange server is running as the DNS server in the office

    I’m suspecting my computer is being used when I’m not at home. This is happening either physically or remotely. My wireless switch is off. Is there any way possible to detect and/or monitor activity without purchasing software? My settings are being changed as well as passwords (Bios PW was changed and I cannot access Bios settings). I connect via the network cable. Is it possible for someone (in range) to connect to my laptop even if the wireless switch is off? This is a Dell Inspiron 1720 with the WLAN 1395 card. Here’s the kicker. When I try to download freeware for monitoring activity, I am not allowed to do this! ????

Problem A ) there is a touchpad delay when typing and try to use the touchpad? problem B ) there is a 1 second delay when press any key and try to use left click button through touchpad? pd: i make this because i searched a lot to get this solved and i want to share the solution, dont want any rep... my pc is a dell xps l521x, but im pretty sure it will apply for any xps model.

  • Underlying Concept Behind Keyboard Mappings

    I am frustrated with key mapping issues. On my Linux box, if I type Home/End in Vim, then the cursor actually moves to the beginning/end of the line. On my Mac when I am on TextEdit, if I do Fn + Left or Fn + Right, it takes me to beginning/end of the line. But if I am on Vim on my Mac terminal, then the same key combinations don't work. Why? I see online all the different cryptic settings that I have to paste in .vimrc to make this work, but I can't find any explanation for those cryptic map, imap settings. What is the underlying issue here, and how can I fix it? Thanks!

  • Keyboard/Mouse not working when windows vista has reached login screen

    I currently have a problem with a system (vista home premium, 64bit). USB kbd/mouse will not work when windows has booted/loaded their drivers and Im stuck at the login screen with no working input devices. None of the available boot options after F8 will boot to working kbd/mouse. They work in the bios setup and they seem powered all the way until a few seconds before the login screen. Legacy USB devices is also enabled in the bios. They also work with the recovery dvd, but I am unable to start the device manager to check or uninstall the mouse/kbd drivers. Cant get devmgmt.msc nor devmgr.dll (with rundll32) to work. System repair does not detect the problem and there are no available restore points (it was disabled). Any ideas?

    I'd like to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys on my ThinkPad W500 (like many others! See: How can I switch the function and control keys on my laptop? and Intercepting the Fn key on laptops) Numerous folks indicate that Windows doesn't register the Fn key as a keypress but using Mihov ASCII Master 2.0, that gives the ASCII value of a keypress, I see the Fn key returning FF (perhaps FF in this case means 'not registered'). I also see that keys like Ctrl register with one ASCII code when pressed alone and another when pressed in combo with another key. Fn will only register when pressed alone, so Windows definitely isn't seeing the combo. This took a solution like AutoHotKey off the table. I ran KeyTweak (which shows you the hardware scan codes of a keypress and the Fn key registerd as 57443). Using this program I remapped Fn to the Ctrl key; this worked perfectly. However, I suspect that because of the issue in #1, the combo of, for example, Fn + C did not execute a copy. Short of retraining my pinky I'm actually considering removing the keyboard and resoldering the connections to swap those keys. I'd love to get some input as to the root technical issue(s) and possible solutions here.

  • Linux RFID reader HID Device not matching driver

    Hello, I got a RFID reader (GigaTek PCR330A-00) that is meant to be recognized under linux/windows as a (Human Interface Device) keyboard/USB. I hate to say this but it is working as a charm under Win7 but not "really" under Linux. Under Debian-like distros (x/k/Ubuntu, Debian,..), or Gentoo, or... I just can't have the device working at all: the device scan well (it has its USB 5V, so it is happy/beeping/blinking) something happened in the dmesg, but no immediate screen display of the RFID Tag code as expected (and seen under win7) Support is claiming it is ok under RHEL or SLED "enterprises" distros... and I must admit I saw it working under a RHEL4... I tried stealing the driver but did not succeed having my reader working... My question is thus double: 1./ How can I hack the kernel to add support to my device (simply register PID/VID?) ? 2./ What is different at all in a "enterprise" proprietary distro? how can I re-use it?   • Coming from Win XP to 7 and having new accessibility software problems

    I just switched from Windows XP Pro SP3 (32bit) to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) on a new PC. Now, both the new onscreen keyboard and a utility for sending mouse clicks are being problematic. The problem with 7's OSK is that some things I type only work intermittently or just dodgily. Like Alt+Tab with multiple Tabs, other Alt/Ctrl/Shift/Win key combinations, and the context menu key. Sometimes apps will not take focus for input at all. I use the OSK it in 'hover' mode, on 0,5 seconds. The clicking tool is Point-N-Click, which sends clicks when I dwell anywhere for 1.25 seconds with the mouse pointer. http://www.polital.com/pnc/ The problem with it is that sometimes it fails to click. Most often this happens in some of the control panel sections, on the taskbar, and when UAC pops up. It seems to occur in conjunction with OSK usage a bit too, I think. I'm using an Administrator account. DEP and UAC settings are default. What can I do to fix or work around either of these problems? I'm disabled so this really is killing usability.

  • How can I make my Super keys (Windows Key) behave more like Ctrl/Alt/Shift in Linux

    After using the Ctrl + "arrow keys" for 13 years to switch virtual desktops in X windows, I've been convinced recently to change to using the Super keys instead (the windows key and the context menu key, which I've remapped). This all works fine for the most part. However, something is still picking up the key events that these keys are sending as if they are a normal alphanumeric like key. For example, I first noticed this in Google Docs spreadsheet that if I press the windows key alone over top of a cell, that it starts editing that cell. It doesn't insert anything, it just sends a key event that Firefox sees and starts editing the cell. This caused problems on a collaborative document I was working on as the way Google docs works, it led to me accidentally erasing the data in a few fields before I realised what was going on. I like using the super keys, but I want them to behave more like a Ctrl or Alt key does in that its a modifier key and doesn't send anything until a second key is pressed. My setup is the following: Ubuntu 10.10 XFCE 4 Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000 keyboard (with the logo scratched out) The following is my .Xmodmap file: remove Lock = Caps_Lock keycode 66 = Escape !   • How can I have a Bluetooth Keyboard Auto-Connect at Startup?

    I have a bluetooth keyboard for my HTPC. I pair it with my computer via bluetooth, and it works fine. However, when I turn off the keyboard or my computer, it has to connect again (which requires me entering a passcode on the computer and keyboard) when I turn them back on. I've looked through many forums and through that I have found that I'm missing some seemingly vital bluetooth files: /etc/default/bluetooth /etc/init.d/bluetooth /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf In the instructions that I've found online so far, I must change certain lines in any of these files. I am unable to, since they do not exist. Am I missing a dependency or something? I've also tried installing Blueman but that didn't help at all. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick).     Hi, I have a Win32 application which hosts a windowless flash activeX. When I'm trying to enter Korean keyboard input on a regular Win machine (after adding Korean support), everything works fine. However, when I trying the same thing on a "real" Korean windows (Win 7 Ultimate K), the text comes out strangely. I.e., pressing the "z" button would yield "1K". Any ideas? Thanks in advace

    I'm developing and Android app using the 1.6 sdk. I'm using a TimePicker and I don't want the soft keyboard to come up when you click on the digits in the TimePicker. I only want the TimePicker to be changed using the plus and minus buttons. I've tried using android:focusable="false" and android:focusableInTouchMode="false" hoping those would do it, but they didn't seem to do anything. Is there a way to do this?

  • Issues dismissing keyboard conditionally

    I have an app that has a username and password field. I want to validate the input before the the user is allowed to stop editing the field. To do that, I'm using the textFieldShouldEndEditing delegate method. If the input doesn't validate I display a UIAlertView. This approach works as advertised - the user cannot leave the field if the input doesn't validate. To have the done button on the keyboard dismiss the keyboard, I call resignFirstResponder on the textfield. The issue I have is the alert is being called twice. How do I keep the alert from showing twice? edit for clarification What is happening is that the alert appears, then another alert appears. I then have to dismiss both windows to fix the input.
