  • Installing vim7.2 on Solaris Sparc 10 as non-root

    - by Tobbe
    I'm trying to install vim to $HOME/bin by compiling the sources. ./configure --prefix=$home/bin seems to work, but when running make I get: > make Starting make in the src directory. If there are problems, cd to the src directory and run make there cd src && make first gcc -c -I. -Iproto -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DFEAT_GUI_GTK -I/usr/include/gtk-2.0 -I/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/include -I/usr/include/atk-1.0 -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/openwin/include -I/usr/sfw/include -I/usr/sfw/include/freetype2 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include -g -O2 -I/usr/openwin/include -o objects/buffer.o buffer.c In file included from buffer.c:28: vim.h:41: error: syntax error before ':' token In file included from os_unix.h:29, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /usr/include/sys/stat.h:251: error: syntax error before "blksize_t" /usr/include/sys/stat.h:255: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/stat.h:309: error: syntax error before "blksize_t" /usr/include/sys/stat.h:310: error: conflicting types for 'st_blocks' /usr/include/sys/stat.h:252: error: previous declaration of 'st_blocks' was here /usr/include/sys/stat.h:313: error: syntax error before '}' token In file included from /opt/local/bin/../lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.6/3.4.6/include/sys/signal.h:132, from /usr/include/signal.h:26, from os_unix.h:163, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:259: error: syntax error before "ctid_t" /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:292: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:294: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:390: error: syntax error before "ctid_t" /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:398: error: conflicting types for '__fault' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:267: error: previous declaration of '__fault' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:404: error: conflicting types for '__file' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:273: error: previous declaration of '__file' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:420: error: conflicting types for '__prof' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:287: error: previous declaration of '__prof' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:424: error: conflicting types for '__rctl' /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:291: error: previous declaration of '__rctl' was here /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:426: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:428: error: syntax error before '}' token /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:432: error: syntax error before "k_siginfo_t" /usr/include/sys/siginfo.h:437: error: syntax error before '}' token In file included from /usr/include/signal.h:26, from os_unix.h:163, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /opt/local/bin/../lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.6/3.4.6/include/sys/signal.h:173: error: syntax error before "siginfo_t" In file included from os_unix.h:163, from vim.h:245, from buffer.c:28: /usr/include/signal.h:111: error: syntax error before "siginfo_t" /usr/include/signal.h:113: error: syntax error before "siginfo_t" buffer.c: In function `buflist_new': buffer.c:1502: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `buflist_findname': buffer.c:1989: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `setfname': buffer.c:2578: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `otherfile_buf': buffer.c:2836: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `buf_setino': buffer.c:2874: error: storage size of 'st' isn't known buffer.c: In function `buf_same_ino': buffer.c:2894: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type buffer.c:2895: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type *** Error code 1 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `objects/buffer.o' Current working directory /home/xluntor/vim72/src *** Error code 1 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `first' How do I fix the make errors? Or is there another way to install vim as non-root? Thanks in advance EDIT: I took a look at the google groups link Sarah posted. The "Compiling Vim" page linked from there was for Linux, so the commands doesn't even work on Solars. But it did hint at logging the output of ./configure to a file, so I did that. Here it is: ./configure output removed. New version further down. Does anyone spot anything critical missing? EDIT 2: So I downloaded the vim package from sunfreeware. I couldn't just install it, since I don't have root privileges, but I was able to extract the package file. This was the file structure in it: `-- SMCvim `-- reloc |-- bin |-- doc | `-- vim `-- share |-- man | `-- man1 `-- vim `-- vim72 |-- autoload | `-- xml |-- colors |-- compiler |-- doc |-- ftplugin |-- indent |-- keymap |-- lang |-- macros | |-- hanoi | |-- life | |-- maze | `-- urm |-- plugin |-- print |-- spell |-- syntax |-- tools `-- tutor I moved the three files (vim, vimtutor, xdd) in SMCvim/reloc/bin to $HOME/bin, so now I can finally run $HOME/bin/vim! But where do I put the "share" directory and its content? EDIT 3: It might also be worth noting that there already exists an install of vim on the system, but it is broken. When I try to run it I get: ld.so.1: vim: fatal: libgtk-1.2.so.0: open failed: No such file or directory "which vim" outputs /opt/local/bin/vim EDIT 4: Trying to compile this on Solaris 10. uname -a SunOS ws005-22 5.10 Generic_141414-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise New ./configure output: ./configure --prefix=$home/bin ac_cv_sizeof_int=8 --enable-rubyinterp configure: loading cache auto/config.cache checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking for gcc option to accept ISO C89... unsupported checking how to run the C preprocessor... gcc -E checking for grep that handles long lines and -e... /usr/sfw/bin/ggrep checking for egrep... /usr/sfw/bin/ggrep -E checking for library containing strerror... none required checking for gawk... gawk checking for strip... strip checking for ANSI C header files... yes checking for sys/wait.h that is POSIX.1 compatible... no configure: checking for buggy tools... checking for BeOS... no checking for QNX... no checking for Darwin (Mac OS X)... no checking --with-local-dir argument... • Session Report: What’s New in JSF: A Complete Tour of JSF 2.2

    - by Janice J. Heiss
    On Wednesday, Ed Burns, Consulting Staff Member at Oracle, presented a session, CON3870 -- “What’s New in JSF: A Complete Tour of JSF 2.2,” in which he provided an update on recent developments in JavaServer Faces 2.2. He began by emphasizing that, “JavaServer Faces 2.2 continues the evolution of the Java EE standard user interface technology. Like previous releases, this iteration is very community-driven and transparent.” He pointed out that since JSF was introduced at the 2001 JavaOne Keynote, it has had a long and successful run and has found a home in applications where the UI logic resides entirely on the server where the model and UI logic is. In such cases, the browser performs fairly simple functions. However, developers can take advantage of the power of browsers, something that Project Avatar is focused on by letting developers author their applications so the UI logic is running on the client and communicating to the back end via RESTful web services. “Most importantly,” remarked Burns, “JSF 2.2 offers a really good migration path because even in the scope of one application you could have an app written with JSF that has its UI logic on the server and, on a gradual basis, you could migrate parts of the app over to use client-side technologies. This can be done at any level of granularity – per page or per collection of pages. It all depends on what you want to do.” His presentation, which focused on the basic new features of JSF 2.2, began by restating the scope of JSF and encouraged attendees to check out Roger Kitain’s session: CON5133 “Techniques for Responsive Real-Time Web UIs.” Burns explained that JSF has endured because, “We still need web apps that are maintainable, localizable, quick to build, accessible, secure, look great and are fun to use.” It is used on every continent – the curious can go here to check out where its unofficial usage is tracked. He emphasized the significance of the UI logic being substantially on the server. This: Separates Component Semantics from Rendering, Allows components to “own” their little patch of the UI -- encode/decode, And offers a well-defined lifecycle: Inversion of Control. Burns reminded attendees that JSR-344, the spec for JSF 2.2, is now on Java Community Process 2.8, a revised version of the JCP that allows for more openness and transparency. He then offered some tools for community access to JSF 2.2:    * Public java.net projects spec http://jsf-spec.java.net/ impl http://jsf.java.net/ Open Source: GPL+Classpath Exception    * Mailing Lists [email protected]                                Public readable archive, JSPA signed member read/write [email protected]                                     Public readable archive, any java.net member read/write                         All mail sent to jsr344-experts is sent to users. * Issue Tracker spec http://jsf-spec.java.net/issues/ impl http://jsf.java.net/issues/ JSF 2.2, which is JSR 344, has a Public Review Draft planned by December 2012 with no need for a Renewal Ballot. The Early Draft Review of JSR 344 was published on December 8, 2011. Interested developers are encouraged to offer their input. Six Big Ticket Features of JSF 2.2 Burns summarized the six big ticket features of JSF 2.2:* HTML5 Friendly Markup Support Pass through attributes and elements * Faces Flows* Cross Site Request Forgery Protection* Loading Facelets via ResourceHandler* File Upload Component* Multi-Templating He explained that he called it “HTML 5 friendly” because there is really nothing HTML 5 specific about it -- it could be 4. But it enables developers to use new elements that are present in HTML5 without having a JSF component library that is written to take advantage of those specifically. It gives the page author the ability to use plain HTML5 to write their page, but to still take advantage of the server-side available in JSF. He presented a demo showing JSF 2.2’s ability to leverage the expressiveness of HTML5. Burns then explained the significance of face flows, which offer function points and quantify how much work has taken place, something of great value to JSF users. He went on to talk about JSF 2.2.’s cross-site request forgery protection (CSRF) and offered details about how it protects applications against attack. Then he talked about JSF 2.2’s File Upload Component and explained that the final specification will have Ajax and non-Ajax support. The current milestone has non-Ajax support implemented. He then went on to explain its capacity to add facelets through ResourceHandler. Previously, JSF 2.0 added Facelets and ResourceHandler as disparate units; now in JSF 2.2 the two concepts are unified. Finally, he explained the concept of multi-templating in JSF 2.2 and went on to discuss more medium-level features of the release. For an easy, low maintenance way of staying in touch with JSF developments go to JSF’s Twitter page where every month or so, important updates are offered.

  • Building InstallShield based Installers using Team Build 2010

    - by jehan
    Last few weeks, I have been working on Application Packaging stuff using all the widely used tools like InstallShield, WISE, WiX and Visual Studio Installer. So, I thought it would be good to post about how to Build the Installers developed using these tools with Team Build 2010. This post will focus on how to build the InstallShield generated packages using Team Build 2010. For the release of VS2010, Microsoft has partnered with Flexera who are the makers of InstallShield to create InstallShield Limited Edition, especially for the customers of Visual Studio. First Microsoft planned to release WiX (Windows Installer Xml) with VS2010, but later Microsoft dropped  WiX from VS2010 due to reasons which are best known to them and partnered with InstallShield for Limited Edition. It disappointed lot of people because InstallShield Limited Edition provides only few features of InstallShield and it may not feasable to build complex installer packages using this and it also requires License, where as WiX is an open source with no license costs and it has proved efficient in building most complex packages. Only the last three features are available in InstallShield Limited Edition from the total features offered by InstallShield as shown in below list.                                                                                            Feature Limited Edition for Visual Studio 2010 Standalone Build System Maintain a clean build machine by using only the part of InstallShield that compiles the installations. InstallShield Best Practices Validation Suite Avoid common installation issues. Try and Die Functionality RCreate a fully functional trial version of your product. InstallShield Repackager Create Windows Installer setups from any legacy installation. Multilingual Support Present installation text in up to 35 languages. Microsoft App-V™ Support Deploy your applications as App-V virtual packages that run without conflict. Industry-Standard InstallScript Achieve maximum flexibility in your installations. Dialog Editor Modify the layout of existing end-user dialogs, create new custom dialogs, and more. Patch Creation Build updates and patches for your products. Setup Prerequisite Editor Easily control prerequisite restart behavior and source locations. String Editor View Control the localizable text strings displayed at run time with this spreadsheet-like table. Text File Changes View Configure search-and-replace actions for content in text files to be modified at run time. Virtual Machine Detection Block your installations from running on virtual machines. Unicode Support Improve multi-language installation development. Support for 64-Bit COM Extraction Extract COM data from a 64-bit COM server. Windows Installer Installation Chaining Add MSI packages to your main installation and chain them together. XML Support Save time by quickly testing XML configuration changes to installation projects. Billboard Support for Custom Branding Display Adobe Flash billboards and other graphic files during the install process. SaaS Support (IIS 7 and SSL Technologies) Easily deploy Windows-based Web applications. Project Assistant Jumpstart a project by using a simplified set of views. Support for Digital Signatures Save time by digitally signing all your files at build time. Easily Run Custom Actions Schedule a custom action to run at precisely the right moment in your installation. Installation Prerequisites Check for and install prerequisites before your installation is executed. To create a InstallShield project in Visual Studio and Build it using Team Build 2010, first you have to add the InstallShield Project template  to your Solution file. If you want to use InstallShield Limited edition you can add it from FileàNewà project àother Project Types àSetup and Deploymentà InstallShield LE and if you are using other versions of InstallShield, then you have to add it from  from FileàNewà project àInstallShield Projects. Here, I’m using  InstallShield 2011 Premier edition as I already have it Installed. I have created a simple package for TailSpin Application which has a Feature called Web, few components and a IIS Web Site for  TailSpin application.   Before started working on this, I thought I may need to build the package by calling invoke process activity in build process template or have to create a new custom activity. But, it got build without any changes to build process template. But, it was failing with below error message. C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\InstallShield\2011\InstallShield.targets (68): The "InstallShield.Tasks.InstallShield" task could not be loaded from the assembly C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010Limited\InstallShield.Tasks.dll. Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files(x86)\MSBuild\InstallShield\2011\InstallShield.Tasks.dll' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Confirm that the <UsingTask> declaration is correct, that the assembly and all its dependencies are available, and that the task contains a public class that implements Microsoft.Build.Framework.ITask. This error is due to 64-bit build machine which I’m using. This issue will be replicable if you are queuing a build on a 64-bit build machine. To avoid this you have to ensure that you configured the build definition for your InstallShield project to load the InstallShield.Tasks.dll file (which is a 32-bit file); otherwise, you will encounter this build error informing you that the InstallShield.Tasks.dll file could not be loaded. To select the 32-bit version of MSBuild, click the Process tab of your build definition in Team Explorer. Then, under the Advanced node, find the MSBuild Platform setting, and select x86. Note that if you are using a 32-bit build machine, you can select either Auto or x86 for the MSBuild Platform setting.  Once I did above changes, the build got successful.

  • vb.net ampersand vs plus for concatenating string

    - by dcp
    In VB.Net, is there any advantage to using & to concatenate strings instead of +? e.g. Dim x as String = "hello" + " there" vs. Dim x as String = "hello" & " there" Yes, I know for a lot of string concatenations I'd want to use StringBuilder, but this is more of a general question.

  • ASP.NET MVC - Pass array object as a route value within Html.ActionLink(...)

    - by Mike
    I have a method that returns an array (string[]) and I'm trying to pass this array of strings into an Action Link so that it will create a query string similar to: /Controller/Action?str=val1&str=val2&str=val3...etc But when I pass new { str = GetStringArray() } I get the following url: /Controller/Action?str=System.String%5B%5D So basically it's taking my string[] and running .ToString() on it to get the value. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • A pattern matching an expression that doesn't end with specific sequence

    - by patryk
    I need a regex pattern which matches such strings that DO NOT end with such a sequence: \.[A-z0-9]{2,} by which I mean the examined string must not have at its end a sequence of a dot and then two or more alphanumeric characters. For example, a string /home/patryk/www and also /home/patryk/www/ should match desired pattern and /home/patryk/images/DSC002.jpg should not. I suppose this has something to do with lookarounds (look aheads) but still I have no idea how to make it. Any help appreciated.

  • Using PHP substr() and strip_tags() while retaining formatting and without breaking HTML

    - by Peter
    I have various HTML strings to cut to 100 characters (of the stripped content, not the original) without stripping tags and without breaking HTML. Original HTML string (288 characters): $content = "<div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div over <div class='nestedDivClass'>there</div> </div> and a lot of other nested <strong><em>texts</em> and tags in the air <span>everywhere</span>, it's a HTML taggy kind of day.</strong></div>"; Standard trim: Trim to 100 characters and HTML breaks, stripped content comes to ~40 characters: $content = substr($content, 0, 100)."..."; /* output: <div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div ove... */ Stripped HTML: Outputs correct character count but obviously looses formatting: $content = substr(strip_tags($content)), 0, 100)."..."; /* output: With a span over here and a nested div over there and a lot of other nested texts and tags in the ai... */ Partial solution: using HTML Tidy or purifier to close off tags outputs clean HTML but 100 characters of HTML not displayed content. $content = substr($content, 0, 100)."..."; $tidy = new tidy; $tidy->parseString($content); $tidy->cleanRepair(); /* output: <div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div ove</div></div>... */ Challenge: To output clean HTML and n characters (excluding character count of HTML elements): $content = cutHTML($content, 100); /* output: <div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div over <div class='nestedDivClass'>there</div> </div> and a lot of other nested <strong><em>texts</em> and tags in the ai</strong></div>..."; Similar Questions How to clip HTML fragments without breaking up tags Cutting HTML strings without breaking HTML tags

  • Win32: GetDateFormat and GetTimeFormat exist. GetDateTimeFormat?

    - by Ian Boyd
    i know Win32 has the Nls function GetDateFormat, e.g.: GetDateFormat(…, …, …, "dddd','MM','y", …, …); and it has GetTimeFormat, e.g.: GetTimeFormat(…, …, …, "tt ss':'hh':'mm", …, …); But there a way to format both at once, e.g.: GetDateTimeFormat(…, …, …, "tt dddd' - 'ss':'y';'hh':'mm MM", …, …); Note: The format string is intentionally constructed to demonstrate that not all format strings are linearly seperable.

  • Difference in String concatenation performance

    - by Homer
    I know you should use a StringBuilder when concatenating strings but I was just wondering if there is a difference in concatenating string variables and string literals. So, is there a difference in performance in building s1, s2, and s3? string foo = "foo"; string bar = "bar"; string s1 = "foo" + "bar"; string s2 = foo + "bar"; string s3 = foo + bar;

  • Silverlight DataPager localization

    - by gius
    Is it possible to localize DataPager's footer (Page X of Y) in Silvelright? The strings seem to be located in resources embedded in the assembly of DataPager. So how should I localize it? Unfortunately, almost nothing in the DataPager class is virtual and also many internal classes are used by it, so it is not possible (at least easily) to inherit DataPager and override the behavior.

  • Python Class which checks input before passing to console (C) program

    - by Joseph Melettukunnel
    Hello, We are asked to write a web-frontend (in python) for a very complex (and old) console application, written in C. Since we have no access to the C Source Code, and we assume that there might be some unsafe methods, we'd like to check the input which will the passed to the console application. WebClient - Python Module - Console Application Do you have any suggestions or tips what we should check for? Right now we are only limiting the string length and filtering some (program specific) unallowed keywords. Thanks, Joseph EDIT: Will remove strings like %s because of format string attacks

  • Problem with hash function: hash(1) == hash(1.0)

    - by mtasic
    I have an instance of dict with ints, floats, strings as keys, but the problem is when there are a as int and b as float, and float(a) == b, then their hash values are the same, and thats what I do NOT want to get because I need unique hash vales for this cases in order to get corresponding values. Example: d = {1:'1', 1.0:'1.0', '1':1, '1.0':1.0} d[1] == '1.0' d[1.0] == '1.0' d['1'] == 1 d['1.0'] == 1.0 What I need is: d = {1:'1', 1.0:'1.0', '1':1, '1.0':1.0} d[1] == '1' d[1.0] == '1.0' d['1'] == 1 d['1.0'] == 1.0
