Specifically I'm looking for a native linux program that is similar in functionality to Navicat or SQLYog. I.e. I need something good at editing data. Free would be best, but not essential. Thanks!
Every once in a while (5 minutes or so), gedit interrupts my typing with a little "This file has changed on disk" message and asks me if I'd like to reload it.
I know that the file isn't being changed.
It's located on a local disk
only I am editing it
if I click "reload" on the dialog, there is no visible change in the file
This doesn't happen in other text editors like Emacs or EditPlus.
Does anyone know what the problem is and/or how to fix it?
What FREE software (included with Mac OSX, or public domain) would be a good, simple way to take some existing PNG clipart files do some simple editing?
I really only need to do 3 things:
Rotate the image.
Clip the image.
Set a "transparent" color.
I don't need anything that takes weeks to learn... or is super-powerful... or super expensive.
Thanks.
I am looking for very simple notepad that would allow "hierarchical" files editing. Something like TreePad but with much less bloat, more polish and possibly open sourced.
Suppose I take a PNG screenshot on a dual monitor system (let's assume for simplicity they are identical), The screenshot will capture both monitors. Now say I want to display that screenshot in an image viewer (windows photo viewer, xnview, etc) at fullscreen - I will then have to choose which monitor to display it on, distorting the image. Is there a way to strech it accross both monitors (aside of changing the windows display mode in the screen configuration window) ?
I am using Windows 7
Thanks
Since my fancy video card have gone south, I've been using the motherboard integrated one (some Intel with 256mb)
I do not really see any difference with the old one.
I don't do games or video editing in the PC and now I'm wondering if buying a new video card is a smart choice.
please help with following task:
i have sharepoint list, all participants see only own records (they are can create, modify and read only own records),

Recently as part of my job I have had to edit and create a lot of excel spreadsheets. I am familiar with some Excel formulas but while editing the spreadsheets I don't feel that I'm using the full potential of excel.
Are there any books/online resources which guide someone with a programming background in Excel?
i wonder if there are some GUI management tools for ubuntu to be used to manage all server tasks.
eg. installing server applications, managing them, editing their conf files and so on.
i saw ebox and i thought it was something i need.
How can I change fedora 12 hostname using gui tools (network connections) only, without editing config files?
All I can see right now if I select "Manual" in IPv4 settings is "DNS servers" or DHCP client ID, neither of which sounds like "domain/hostname" combination.
Tips?

I am looking for a program that will allow a windows computer or a Windows CE device tethered to a Cannon xsi to act as a DIY photobooth. Price is not necessarily a factor, but I'd be quite interested in an open source solution.
Instead of printing the photos I'd like to write them to a single Picassa album.
If the software could be controlled by the Cannon's remote control.
It would be a self serving photo booth for a wedding.
Say when editing Google document A and want to put a link to open document B. Is there any way to do this? Thanks.
PS. I don't want both docs being shared.
Pretty simple - how can one select just pasted text (after pasting it) ?
I'm editing some files which are purely data, and I get "lost" sometimes ... so it would help if I could select it or somehow otherwise mark the text I've just pasted as to have a visual confirmaton, and to know from where to continue.
Can it be done ?
I prefer dark color themes for editing source codes while programming but I'd like to use a brighter background with black characters when writing text in org-mode. How can I set different color themes on different frames in Emacs? If I switch to another color theme, it changes across all frames.
I use GNU Emacs 23.1.1 on OS X 10.6.
Xeon: Dual Core Intel® Xeon® W3503 2.40GHz, 4M L3, 4.8GT/s
Intel® Core™2 Duo E8400 (6MB,3.0 GHz, 1333FSB),
USES:
Virtual PC (and doing software development within Virtual PC)
A little bit of video editing
Desktop software (like Outlook, Quickbooks, etc.)
I think #1 is faster, but wanted feedback from other folks here.
Which is faster and why?
Thanks!
I don't know if I'll make the issue clear, but I've installed MySQL on CentOS 6.3 using root account on a specific domain (f.ex. root@mydomain), but when i try to log on to it I'm being asked for password to root@localhost account, which I do not have access to. How can I log on to MySQL installed on 'mydomain' and not to 'localhost'?
I've tried editing my.cnf using bind-address='domain_ip', but it didn't help, it still wanted localhost password.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop, need to upgrade to Windows 8.
If there were a Windows 8 Home Premium midway between those two I would've chosen that... but there are only two Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro, so I'm a bit confused, as I don't want the former to be like Windows 7 Basic. My usage is mostly coding, game development, mid-performance gaming and some benchmarking and video editing.
Your recommendations please?
It seems my FreeBSD console is misconfigured (i guess). I cannot use home button in command line, and in vi left arrow is switching me from edit to command mode, which makes editing a little difficult. How can I know what's wrong and fix it?
I'm not a root, by the way, I just hope it's something with my profile configuration.
I use Linux for hosting and editing code, but there are others at work that are using Windows. Sometimes they make the files have \r\n in them, and it's causing problems with version control.
Should they be using the ASCII mode in their FTP manager? Should that force the line endings to be \n when uploading from Windows to Linux?
For some odd reason whenever I put a picture into Dreamweaver it screws up the color when I editing it in Dreamweaver but when I open the page up in Firefox it looks fine. Anyone know what's going on?

I am kind of confused by Picasa's photo organisation system which involves albums on one hand and folders plus collections on the other. Does anyone have a good system for using these to keep everything organised?
I need a software for managing gamenet (Gamenet is like a cybercafe except people play games in gamenet instead of surfing the web!) The software should have this basic features:
Accounting features (defining users, assigning a usage time to them, etc)
Denying access to regular windows features (windows explorer, creating/editing/deleting files)
Showing a list of available games to users to run.
Creating login report
I've tested a software named GamePort but it has some bugs and shortcomings.
