• MySQL Query performance - huge difference in time

  I have a query that is returning in vastly different amounts of time between 2 datasets. For one set (database A) it returns in a few seconds, for the other (database B)....well I haven't waited long enough yet, but over 10 minutes. I have dumped both of these databases to my local machine where I can reproduce the issue running MySQL 5.1.37. Curiously, database B is smaller than database A. Database A also has this state but for only a second or so. There are no differences in the table structure, indexes, keys etc between these databases (I have done show create tables and diff'd them). The sizes of the tables are: database A: po_shipment 1776 po_shipment_item 1945 po_alloc 36298 po_header 71642 EVENT_TABLE 1608 database B: po_shipment 463 po_shipment_item 470 po_alloc 3291 po_header 56149 EVENT_TABLE 1089 Some points to note: Removing the WHERE clause makes the query return < 1 sec. Removing the GROUP BY makes the query return < 1 sec. Removing ev5, ev4, ev3 etc makes the query get faster for each one removed. Can anyone suggest how to resolve this issue? What have I missed?   I am using the following to delete route53 records. A 111.111.111.111 60 1 id1 test.com. A 111.111.111.222 60 1 id2 I want to delete 111.111.111.222 and the record set. So, what is the proper way to delete a record set? For a record set, I will have multiple values that are distinguished by a unique identifier. When an ip address becomes in active I want to remove from route53. I am using a a poor mans load balancing. • When does MSBuild set the $(ProjectName) property?

  I'm fairly new to MSBuild, and I've done some customization on a Wpf project file that I'm building both in VS2010 and TFS2010. I've customized the output path as follows: <OutputPath Condition=" '$(TeamBuildOutDir)' == '' ">$(SolutionDir)build\binaries\$(ProjectName)\$(Configuration)\$(Platform)</OutputPath> <OutputPath Condition=" '$(TeamBuildOutDir)' != '' ">$(TeamBuildOutDir)binaries\$(ProjectName)\$(Configuration)\$(Platform)</OutputPath> This allows me to build to a centralized binaries directory when building on the desktop, and allows TFS to find the binaries when CI builds are running. However, it seems that in both cases, the $(ProjectDir) property is evaluating to '' at buildtime, which creates strange results. Doing some debugging, it appears as if $(ProjectName) is set by the time BeforeBuild executes, but that my OutputPath property is evaluating it prior to that point. <ProjectNameUsedTooEarly Condition=" '$(ProjectName)' == '' ">true</ProjectNameUsedTooEarly> The preceeding property is in the same property group as my OutputPath property. In the BeforeBuild target, $(ProjectNameUsedTooEarly) evaluates to true, but $(ProjectName) evaluates to the project name as normal by that point. What can I do to ensure that $(ProjectName) has got a value when I use it? edit: I just used Attrice's MSBuild Sidekick to debug through my build file, and in the very first target available for breakpoint (_CheckForInvalidConfigurationAndPlatform) all the properties seem to be set already. ProjectName is already set correctly, but my OutputPath property has already been set using the blank value of ProjectName.

• Word 2007 COM - Can't directly access a page when word is set to invisible

  I'm using Word 2007 via COM from PHP 5.2 Apache 2.0 on a windows machine. The goal is to programmatically render jpeg thumbnails from each page in a Word document. The following code works correctly if you set $word-Visible to 1: try { $word = new COM('word.application'); $word->Visible = 0; $word->Documents->Open("C:\\test.doc"); echo "Number of pages: " . $word->ActiveDocument->ActiveWindow->ActivePane->Pages->Count() . The code will display the correct number of pages but the for each loop only loops over 1 page. I can only directly access page 1 and 2 in the Pages-Item() collection. If I try to access another page I get the exception: "The requested member of the collection does not exist." If I set the $word-Visible property to 1 I do get all the pages in the foreach loop and I can access any page directly. Everything is working as expected if Word is set to be visible. Even stranger is the fact that if I set Word to be invisible and I don't have the foreach loop I can only access page 1 instead of page 1 and 2 if I do the for each loop. Any pointers on how I can access all the pages in the document and keeping word invisible?

• How to set Delphi WebBrowser Base directory different that HTML location

  I have a Delphi program that creates HTML files. Later when a button is pressed a TWebBrowser is created and a WebBrowser.Navigate causes the html page to display. Is there anyway to set the WebBrowser "default directory" so it will always be the location of the Delphi executable not the HTML file? I do not want to set the Base value in the HTML to a hardcoded value because then when the HTML is ran from another Delphi exe they are not found. for example: if the exe is run from D:\data\delphi\pgm.exe then the base location D:\data\delphi\ and the jpgs are at D:\data\delphi\jpgs\ but if the exe is run from: C:\stuff\pgm.exe i want the base location to be C:\stuff\ and the jpgs to be at C:\stuff\jpgs\ So I cannot write a line in the HTML with the base location since when it is ran from another exe it would point to wrong location for that exe. So I either need to set the base location when I create the webbrowser and before I read the HTML or I need a way to pass into the webbrowser the location where I can then set the base location. Sorry for being so long-winded but I could not figure out how to saw what I needed.

• Stopping cookies being set from a domain (aka "cookieless domain") to increase site performance

  I was reading in Google's documentation about improving site speed. One of their recommendations is serving static content (images, css, js, etc.) from a "cookieless domain": Static content, such as images, JS and CSS files, don't need to be accompanied by cookies, as there is no user interaction with these resources. You can decrease request latency by serving static resources from a domain that doesn't serve cookies. Google then says that the best way to do this is to buy a new domain and set it to point to your current one: To reserve a cookieless domain for serving static content, register a new domain name and configure your DNS database with a CNAME record that points the new domain to your existing domain A record. Configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain. In your web pages, reference the domain name in the URLs for the static resources. This is pretty straight forward stuff, except for the bit where it says to "configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain". From what I've read, there's no setting in IIS that allows you to say "serve static resources", so how do I prevent ASP.NET from setting cookies on this new domain? At present, even if I'm just requesting a .jpg from the new domain, it sets a cookie on my browser, even though our application's cookies are set to our old domain. For example, ASP.NET sets an ".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookie that (as far as I'm aware) we're not telling it to do. Apologies if this is a real newb question, I'm new at this! Thanks.

  I need to select a top row for each category from a known set (somewhat similar to this question). The problem is, how to make this query efficient on the large number of rows. For example, let's create a table that stores temperature recording in several places. This way is efficient, but doesn't scale well (and looks dirty). For the former query three times one row is fetched. Is there a way to perform the query efficiently without lots of unions?

• How to iterate properly across a const set?

  I'm working on a program that's supposed to represent a graph. My issue is in my printAdjacencyList function. Basically, I have a Graph ADT that has a member variable "nodes", which is a map of the nodes of that graph. Each Node has a set of Edge* to the edges it is connected to. I'm trying to iterate across each node in the graph and each edge of a node. void MyGraph::printAdjacencyList() { std::map<std::string, MyNode*>::iterator mit; std::set<MyEdge*>::iterator sit; for (mit = nodes.begin(); mit != nodes.end(); mit++ ) { std::cout << mit->first << ": {"; const std::set<MyEdge*> edges = mit->second->getEdges(); for (sit = edges.begin(); sit != edges.end(); sit++) { std::pair<MyNode*, MyNode*> edgeNodes = *sit->getEndpoints(); } } std::cout << " }" << std::endl; } getEdges is declared as: const std::set<MyEdge*>& getEdges() { return edges; }; and get Endpoints is declared as: const std::pair<MyNode*, MyNode*>& getEndpoints() { return nodes; }; The compiler error I'm getting is: MyGraph.cpp:63: error: request for member `getEndpoints' in `*(&sit)->std::_Rb_tree_const_iterator<_Tp>::operator-> [with _Tp = MyEdge*]()', which is of non-class type `MyEdge* const' MyGraph.cpp:63: warning: unused variable 'edgeNodes' I have figured out that this probably means I'm misusing const somewhere, but I can't figure out where for the life of me. • PHP session_write_close() keeps sending a set-cookie header

  In my framework, I make a number of calls to session_write_close(). Let's assume that a session has been initiated with a user agent. The following code... foreach($i = 0; $i < 3; $i++) { session_start(); session_write_close(); } ...will send the following request header to the browser: Set-Cookie PHPSESSID=bv4d0n31vj2otb8mjtr59ln322; path=/ PHPSESSID=bv4d0n31vj2otb8mjtr59ln322; path=/ There should be no Set-Cookie header because, as I stipulated, the session cookie has already been created on the user's end. But every call to session_write_close() after the first one in the script above will result in PHP instructing the browser to set the current session again. This is not breaking my app or anything, but it is annoying. Does anyone have any insight into preventing PHP from re-setting the cookie with each subsequent call to session_write_close? EDIT The problem seems to be that with every subsequent call to session_start(), PHP re-sets the session cookie to its own SID and sends a Set-Cookie response header. But why??

• Display a jQuery Dialog/Popup, then set a hidden field using the result of the dialog

  The Problem I have a page with a form on. It has a hidden field called: generic_portrait I want the user to click a link "select portrait" This will open a Dialog/Popup using jQuery, based on a dropdown completed earlier in the form. If the value of the dropdown called "gender" is "male" then show male options, if "gender" is set to "female" show female options. Each portrait has a radio button, each with a name assigned "male1", "male2" etc Depending on the radio button selected in the popup, I want the hidden field to be set to match this. The Questions What is the best way to show a dialog/popup using jQuery, different depending on a dropdown box on the page. Use Javascript to see what is selected, then show a corresponding Div? I can do the check to see what the dropdown is set to using jQuery, but how can I then shown a specific popup based on that? Once i've popped it up, how do I take the value assigned to the selected radio box, and set the hidden field called "generic_portrait" to this value. Why i'm asking Normally I would figure this out myself, as i'm sure it's not that difficult, but I don't use Javascript and/or PHP very often, and this is due for a client urgently.   Hello, I'm trying to set the caret position in a contenteditable div layer, and after a bit of searching the web and experimenting I got it to work in firefox using this: function set(element,position){ element.focus(); var range= window.getSelection().getRangeAt(0); range.setStart(element.firstChild,position); range.setEnd(element.firstChild,position); } [...] set(document.getElementById("test"),3); But in Chrome/webkit it selects all of the content in the div. • iphone - Programmatically set (System-wide) proxy settings?

  I am new to iPhone development, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I am developing an application whose purpose will be to route all iPhone activity through my company's proxy. Is there a way to programmatically set system-wide proxy settings in the iPhone (which will also take effect on the 3G connection)? I know there is a way to manually set proxy settings for each wifi connection. Detecting new networks and setting the proxy on them would be acceptable. However, I need to also be able to set the proxy on the 3G connection. Also, bonus: Is there a way to programmatically change the "Restrictions" settings? If anyone has any tips or can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks. EDIT: Please understand that this is for a legitimate purpose. Apple has to approve app store additions, so it's not like I'm trying to spread a virus. Please, constructive answers only.

But shouldn't the javax.ws.rs.core.Response work as well?

So, it's hidden all the time In my particular case the errors that I show in the registration process cannot be seen on my 13inch laptop, but I don't want to show the scrollbars all the time.   We use OpenFileDialog across our application to select files. So far, we never used Multiselect. We set RestoreDirectory to true so that any time we open the dialog we get the user to the last directory used. If I set Multiselect to true, the directory from which the files are selected is not remembered. The dialog shows the last directory used when Multiselect was set to false. By the way, we create a new instance of OpenFileDialog. The environment: Windows XP VS 2008 targeting framework 3.5 C#

So, assuming this data: Joe has Trophy, Medal Sue has Trophy, Ribbon Tom has Trophy, Ribbon, Medal The query above would return Joe, Sue, and Tom because all three possess at least one of Trophy or Ribbon. But I need to return only Sue and Tom, because they are the only ones who possess all of the specified awards (Trophy and Ribbon).   I´m having a problem setting a cookie and doing a 302 redirect In chrome the cookie is not being set (I haven't tested safari), in other browsers I was having the same problem until I added Path=/ to the cookie an now it works.
