  • C# Linq Entity Conversion Error on Nonexistent Value?

    - by Ryan
While trying to query some data using the Linq Entity Framework I'm receiving the following exception: {"Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '3208,7' to data type int."} The thing that is confusing is that this value does not even exist in the view I am querying from. It does exist in the table the view is based on, however. The query I'm running is the following: return context.vb_audit_department .Where(x => x.department_id == department_id && x.version_id == version_id) .GroupBy(x => new { x.action_date, x.change_type, x.user_ntid, x.label }) .Select(x => new { action_date = x.Key.action_date, change_type = x.Key.change_type, user_ntid = x.Key.user_ntid, label = x.Key.label, count = x.Count(), items = x }) .OrderByDescending(x => x.action_date) .Skip(startRowIndex) .Take(maximumRows) .ToList(); Can somebody explain why LINQ queries the underlying table instead of the actual view, and if there is any way around this behavior?

  • conversion of a varchar to a smalldatetime results in an out-of-range value

    - by michael
The code: strSql = "insert into table2 (transactiondate) values ('" & transactiondate & "')" seems to be giving me the runtime error: The conversion of a varchar data type to a smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value In the code, strSql is a String object and transactiondate is a Date object. In the SQL database however, transactiondate is a smalldatetime object. I've tried changing the smalldatetime to a datetime (in the database) and I've tried transactiondate.toString() but with no success. How can this be fixed? Note: I know about the dangers of inline SQL. I am looking for a quick fix solution here and not a discussion about SQL injection.

  • Entity framework error: The conversion of a datetime2 data type to a datetime data

    - by EdenMachine
I know there are a ton of posts about this issue but none of them seem to solve my problem. Here's the scenario: I have a CreateDate DateTime column in my MS SQL Server database User table that is non-nullable and is automatically set using GetDate() method in "Default Value or Binding" setting. I am able to create a User just fine with the standard EF Insert but when I try to update the user, I get this error: The conversion of a datetime2 data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value. What is the trick to not having the EF worry about the CreateDate column for updates? I have the StoreGenerationPattern = Identity but that isn't helping. Here are the EF properties for my Entity Property: http://screencast.com/t/8ndQRn9N And here is my Update method: http://screencast.com/t/UXIzhkhR

  • How to improve this piece of code

    - by user303518
Can anyone help me on this. It may be very frustrating for you all. But I want you guys to take a moment to look at the code below and please tell me all the things that are wrong in the below piece of code. You can copy it into your visual studio to analyze this better. You don’t have to make this code compile. My task is to get the following things: Most obvious mistakes with this code All the things that are wrong/bad practices with the code below Modify/Write an optimized version of this code. Keep in mind, the code DOES NOT need to compile. Reduce the number of lines of code You should NEVER try to implement something like below: public List<ValidationErrorDto> ProcessEQuote(string eQuoteXml, long programUniversalID) { // Get Program Info. DataTable programs = GetAllPrograms(); DataRow[] programRows = programs.Select(string.Format("ProgramUniversalID = {0}", programUniversalID)); long programID = (long)programRows[0]["ProgramID"]; string programName = (string)programRows[0]["Description"]; // Get Config file values. string fromEmail = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["eQuotesFromEmail"]; string technicalSupportPhone = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["TechnicalSupportPhone"]; string fromEmailDisplayName = string.IsNullOrEmpty(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["eQuotesFromDisplayName"]) ? null : string.Format(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["eQuotesFromDisplayName"], programName); string itEmail = !string.IsNullOrEmpty(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ITEmail"]) ? • Hex to Decimal conversion in C

    - by darkie15
Hi All, Here is my code which is doing the conversion from hex to decimal. The hex values are stored in a unsigned char array: int liIndex ; long hexToDec ; unsigned char length[4]; for (liIndex = 0; liIndex < 4 ; liIndex++) { length[liIndex]= (unsigned char) *content; printf("\n Hex value is %.2x", length[liIndex]); content++; } hexToDec = strtol(length, NULL, 16); Each array element contains 1 byte of information and I have read 4 bytes. When I execute it, here is the output that I get : Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 01 Chunk length is 0 Can any one please help me understand the error here. Th decimal value should have come out as 1 instead of 0. Regards, darkie

  • C# Byte[] to Url Friendly String

    - by LorenVS
Hello, I'm working on a quick captcha generator for a simple site I'm putting together, and I'm hoping to pass an encrypted key in the url of the page. I could probably do this as a query string parameter easy enough, but I'm hoping not too (just because nothing else runs off the query string)... My encryption code produces a byte[], which is then transformed using Convert.ToBase64String(byte[]) into a string. This string, however, is still not quite url friendly, as it can contain things like '/' and '='. Does anyone know of a better function in the .NET framework to convert a byte array to a url friendly string? I know all about System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlEncode() and its equivalents, however, they only work properly with query string parameters. If I url encode an '=' inside of the path, my web server brings back a 400 Bad Request error. Anyways, not a critical issue, but hoping someone can give me a nice solution **EDIT: Just to be absolutely sure exactly what I'm doing with the string, I figured I would supply a little more information. The byte[] that results from my encryption algorithm should be fed through some sort of algorithm to make it into a url friendly string. After this, it becomes the content of an XElement, which is then used as the source document for an XSLT transformation, and is used as a part of the href attribute for an anchor. I don't believe the xslt transformation is causing the issues, since what is coming through on the path appears to be an encoded query string parameter, but causes the HTTP 400 I've also tried HttpUtility.UrlPathEncode() on a base64 string, but that doesn't seem to do the trick either (I still end up with '/'s in my url)**

  • Displaying music list using custom lists instead of array adapters

    - by Rahul Varma
Hi, I have displayed the music list in a list view. The list is obtained from a website. I have done this using Arraylist. Now, i want to iterate the same program using custom lists and custom adapters instead of array list. The code i have written using array lists is... public class MusicListActivity extends Activity { MediaPlayer mp; File mediaFile; TextView tv; TextView albumtext; TextView artisttext; ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); //ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> node=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> filepath=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> imgal=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> album=new ArrayList<String>(); • What should I call the operation that limit a string's length?

    - by egarcia
This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

  • Loop to LINQ Conversion -

    - by Pino
Ok I have the following, set-up and working great. These lines of code should do a conversion from DAL Entity (Subsonic) to a ViewModel. IList<ProductOptionModel> OptionsRetData = new List<ProductOptionModel>(); foreach (var CurProductOption in this.ProductOptions) { OptionsRetData.Add(CurProductOption.ToDataModel()); } returnData.Options = OptionsRetData.AsEnumerable(); I'd like to convert this to a LINQ single line statment and came up with the following. returnData.Options = this.ProductOptions.Select(o => o.ToDataModel()); and am recieving the following error. Server Error in '/' Application. Sequence contains no matching element So why does the first statment work but not the LINQ and, what steps can I take to resolve it.

  • UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1 mapping / lossless conversion libraries in Java

    - by Pawel Krupinski
I need to perform a conversion of characters from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1 in Java without losing for example all of the UTF-8 specific punctuation. Ideally would like these to be converted to equivalents in ISO (e.g. there are probably 5 different single quotes in UTF-8 and would like them all converted to ISO single quote character). String.getBytes("ISO-8859-1") just won't do the trick in this case as it will lose the UTF-8-specific chars. Do you know of any ready mappings or libraries in Java that would map UTF-8 specific characters to ISO?

  • Ruby: Is there a way to split a string only with the first x occurrencies?

    - by zxcvbnm
For example, suppose I have this: 001, "john doe", "male", 37, "programmer", "likes dogs, women, and is lazy" The problem is that the line is only supposed to have 6 fields. But if I separate it with split I get more, due to the comma being used improperly to separate the fields. Right now I'm splitting everything, then when I get to the 5-th index onward I concatenate all the strings. But I was wondering if there was a split(",",6) or something along these lines.

  • Qt - invalid conversion to child class

    - by David Davidson
I'm drawing polygons using the Graphics View framework. I added a polygon to the scene with this: QGraphicsPolygonItem *poly = scene->addPolygon(QPolygonF(vector_of_QPointF)); poly->setPos(some_point); But I need to implement some custom behaviour like selection, mouse over indicator, and other similar stuff on the graphics item. So I declared a class that inherits QGraphicsPolygonItem: #include <QGraphicsPolygonItem> class GridHex : public QGraphicsPolygonItem { public: GridHex(QGraphicsItem* parent = 0); }; GridHex::GridHex(QGraphicsItem* parent) : QGraphicsPolygonItem(parent) { } Not doing much with that class so far, as you can see. But shouldn't replacing QGraphicsPolygonItem with my GridHex class? This is throwing a " invalid conversion from 'QGraphicsPolygonItem*' to 'GridHex*' " error: GridHex* poly = scene->addPolygon(QPolygonF(vector_of_QPointF)); What am I doing wrong?

  • Flex: convert VideoPlayer.currentTime to string "00:00:00:000"

    - by numediaweb
    Hi there! what about this one: I want to format the currentTime displayed by a videoPlayer component inside flex, something like : 8230.999 to something like 01:59:59:999 which is "hours:minutes:seconds:milliseconds" I trie different sets of codes but they can't get it to work because currentTime is nor a correct miliseconds time as it adds a floating 3 digit point to seconds; so instead of : 2000ms it outputs 2.000 something people like me just can't understand! thanx for any help :) ### UPDATE I still have problem with milliseconds. here's the current MXML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600"> <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ protected function convert_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { var val:Number = new Number(inPut.text); //inPut.text = 1000.001 //val = val * 1000; outPut.text = timeFormat(val); } public static function timeFormat(value:Number):String { var milliseconds:Number = value % 1000; var seconds:Number = Math.floor((value/1000) % 60); var minutes:Number = Math.floor((value/60000) % 60); var hours:Number = Math.floor((value/3600000) % 24); var s_miliseconds:String = (milliseconds<10 ? • Calculating probability that a string has been randomized? - Python

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, this is correlated to a question I asked earlier (question) I have a list of manually created strings such as: lucy87 gordan_king fancy_unicorn77 joplucky_kanga90 base_belong_to_narwhals and a list of randomized strings: johnkdf pancake90kgjd fancy_jagookfk manhattanljg What gives away that the last set of strings are randomized is that sequences such as 'kjg', 'jgf', 'lkd', ... . Any clever way I could separate strings that contain these apparently randomized strings from the crowd? I guess that this plays a lot on the fact that certain characters are more likely to be placed next to others (e.g. 'co', 'ka', 'ja', ...). Any ideas on this one? Kylotan mentioned Reverend, but I am not sure if it can be used fr such purpose. Help would be much appreciated!

  • A follow up on type coercion in C++, as it may be construed by type conversion

    - by David
This is a follow up to my previous question. Consider that I write a function with the following prototype: int a_function(Foo val); Where foo is believed to be a type defined unsigned int. This is unfortunately not verifiable for lack of documentation. So, someone comes along and uses a_function, but calls it with an unsigned int as an argument. Here the story takes a turn. Foo turns out to actually be a class, which can take an unsigned int as a single argument of unsigned int in an explicit constructor. Is it a standard and reliable behavior for the compiler to render the function call by doing a type conversion on the argument. I.e. is the compiler supposed to recognize the mismatch and insert the constructor? Or should I get a compile time error reporting the type mismatch.

  • How to refer to items in Dictionary<string, string> by integer index?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    I made a Dictionary<string, string> collection so that I can quickly reference the items by their string identifier. But I now also need to access this collective by index counter (foreach won't work in my real example). What do I have to do to the collection below so that I can access its items via integer index as well? using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace TestDict92929 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Dictionary<string, string> events = new Dictionary<string, string>(); events.Add("first", "this is the first one"); events.Add("second", "this is the second one"); events.Add("third", "this is the third one"); string description = events["second"]; Console.WriteLine(description); string description = events[1]; //error Console.WriteLine(description); } } }

  • Error Downloading Metadata from ASMX Service

    - by michael.lukatchik
It should be possible (and it looks like it is), but assume I have the following functions in my ASMX web service: [WebMethod(MessageName = "CreateExternalRpt1")] public bool CreateExternalRpt(int iProductId, int iOrderProductId, DateTime dtReportTime, string strReportTitle, string strReportCategory, string strReportPrintType, out string strSnapshot, string strApplicantFirst, string strApplicantLast, string strApplicantMiddle, string strOwnerLast, string strOwnerMiddle, string strOwnerFirst, bool blnCurrentReport, int iOrderId, bool blnFlag, string strCustomerId, string strUserId) { … } [WebMethod(MessageName = "CreateExternalRpt2")] public bool CreateExternalRpt(int iProductId, int iOrderProductId, DateTime dtReportTime, string strReportTitle, string strReportCategory, string strReportPrintType, string strReportSnapshot, string strApplicantFirst, string strApplicantLast, string strApplicantMiddle, string strOwnerLast, string strOwnerMiddle, string strOwnerFirst, bool blnCurrentReport, int iOrderId, bool blnFlag) { … } With both of these functions defined in my web service, my .NET client app can’t download the metadata and instead throws a generic error message “There was an error downloading…”. With one of the above methods removed, the .NET client app can successfully download the metadata. I’ve read that by decorating the WebMethod with a unique name, both functions should be exposed in the service metadata. This isn’t working. What am I missing?

  • How should I call the operation that limit a string's length?

    - by egarcia
This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?
