  • What is an efficient way to write password cracking algorithm (python)

    This problem might be relatively simple, but I'm given two text files. One text file contains all encrypted passwords encrypted via crypt.crypt in python. The other list contains over 400k+ normal dictionary words. The assignment is that given 3 different functions which transform strings from their normal case to all different permutations of capitalizations, transforms a letter to a number (if it looks alike, e.g. G - 6, B - 8), and reverses a string. The thing is that given the 10 - 20 encrypted passwords in the password file, what is the most efficient way to get the fastest running solution in python to run those functions on dictionary word in the words file? It is given that all those words, when transformed in whatever way, will encrypt to a password in the password file. Here is the function which checks if a given string, when encrypted, is the same as the encrypted password passed in: def check_pass(plaintext,encrypted): crypted_pass = crypt.crypt(plaintext,encrypted) if crypted_pass == encrypted: return True else: return False Thanks in advance.

  • Cloning a read-write github repository using TortoiseHg

    I'm trying to clone my personal fork on github using the git+ssh protocol with TortoiseHg. It's giving me a rather strange error. Here is the command hg clone git+ssh//[email protected]:myusername/thefork.git This is after I have installed the hg-git module and it works just fine to clone using the git:// syntax. But I believe it's having trouble with the ssh. The error I'm getting is this. importing Hg objects into Git [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified I have tried adding manually the ssh command into the mercurial.ini file like this [ui] username = [email protected] ssh="C:\Program Files\TortoiseHg\TortoisePlink.exe" -ssh -2 -i "C:\Source\SSHPrivateKey.ppk" But I still get the same error.     Hi People, The problem if someone types into the search box a location it goes through to that location page but if they type in a location thats not found or they dont type anything in I need it to redirect back to the homepage (index.asp) and display "whoops we couldnt find that" in the search box (input field) This is the vb Case Else response.redirect "index.asp?whoops=whoops we couldnt find that" End Select Then in the value of the input field I have value="<% =whoops %>" This doesnt work by the way, first is this the best way of doing it because id rather not have the error message in the url. This there away of posting the error as a variable and then calling it into the input field like, <% =whoops %>

  • Can't write the SysWow64 value to registry with vbscript for Screensaver

    Scripts, registries, screen-savers, oh my! I'm trying to use a screen-saver on a Windows XP 64 bit machine which uses a .NET app which makes an interop call which relies on some x86 Shockwave Dlls (some Shockwave animation). Everything should be in the %systemroot%\WINNT\SysWOW64 directory. When the timeout for the screensaver occurs, the process should looks like this: Screensaver.scr - .NET app - shockwave animation. During installation I want a vbscript to my screen-saver file to copy the Screensaver.scr to the SysWow64 directory and then set the proper registry key to this file for Windows to launch the screen-saver. The code is something like this: Dim sScreenSaver, tScreenSaver sScreenSaver = "C:\SourceFiles\bin\ScreenSaver.scr" 'screensaver tScreenSaver = "C:\winnt\SysWOW64\" Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") 'script shell to run objects Set FSO = createobject("scripting.filesystemobject") 'file system object 'copy screensaver FSO.CopyFile sScreenSaver, tScreenSaver, True 'set screen saver Dim p1 p1 = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\" WshShell.RegWrite p1 & "SCRNSAVE.EXE", (tScreenSaver & "ScreenSaver.scr") After installation, I can verify the the Screensaver exists in the correct directory. However, the registry entry is not correct. In both the 32 and 64 bit regedit I see the HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop\SCRNSAVE.EX is set to: C:\WINNT\system32\Screensaver.scr This isn't right. The screen-saver won't run from this directory. It only runs from SysWOW64. If I manually edit the registry with regedit to the correct SysWOW64 path everything works fine. Is this a problem with using the script or is this a Windows registry redirection, or filesystem redirection problem? You'd think this would be simple...

  • Write magic bytes to the stack to monitor its usage

    I have a problem on an embedded device that I think might be related to a stack overflow. In order to test this I was planning to fill the stack with magic bytes and then periodically check if the stack has overflowed by examining how much of my magic bytes that are left intact. But I can't get the routine for marking the stack to work. The application keeps crashing instantly. This is what I have done just at the entry point of the program. //fill most of stack with magic bytes int stackvar = 0; int stackAddr = int(&stackvar); int stackAddrEnd = stackAddr - 25000; BYTE* stackEnd = (BYTE*) stackAddrEnd; for(int i = 0; i < 25000; ++i) { *(stackEnd + i) = 0xFA; } Please note that the allocated stack is larger than 25k. So I'm counting on some stack space to already be used at this point. Also note that the stack grows from higher to lower addresses that's why I'm trying to fill from the bottom and up. But as I said, this will crash. I must be missing something here.

  • How can I write reusable Javascript?

    I've started to wrap my functions inside of Objects, e.g.: var Search = { carSearch: function(color) { }, peopleSearch: function(name) { }, ... } This helps a lot with readability, but I continue to have issues with reusabilty. To be more specific, the difficulty is in two areas: Receiving parameters. A lot of times I will have a search screen with multiple input fields and a button that calls the javascript search function. I have to either put a bunch of code in the onclick of the button to retrieve and then martial the values from the input fields into the function call, or I have to hardcode the HTML input field names/IDs so that I can subsequently retrieve them with Javascript. The solution I've settled on for this is to pass the field names/IDs into the function, which it then uses to retrieve the values from the input fields. This is simple but really seems improper. Returning values. The effect of most Javascript calls tends to be one in which some visual on the screen changes directly, or as a result of another action performed in the call. Reusability is toast when I put these screen-altering effects at the end of a function. For example, after a search is completed I need to display the results on the screen. How do others handle these issues? Putting my thinking cap on leads me to believe that I need to have an page-specific layer of Javascript between each use in my application and the generic methods I create which are to be used application-wide. Using the previous example, I would have a search button whose onclick calls a myPageSpecificSearchFunction, in which the search field IDs/names are hardcoded, which marshals the parameters and calls the generic search function. The generic function would return data/objects/variables only, and would not directly read from or make any changes to the DOM. The page-specific search function would then receive this data back and alter the DOM appropriately. Am I on the right path or is there a better pattern to handle the reuse of Javascript objects/methods?

To deal with this first problem, I was using a loop. The full function I wrote is: (defun eval-all-sexps (s) (loop for x = (ignore-errors (read-from-string s)) then (ignore-errors (read-from-string (substring s position))) while x summing (or (cdr x) 0) into position doing (eval (car x)))) Now the second problem that showed up is that the function is called twice with a somewhat large input, first with valid but partial content, then with what looks like pieces of the remaining data. To solve this problem, I'm considering using a junk variable to hold up what remains from a loop and then concatenating it to the input of the next call, but I was wondering if you guys have any other suggestions on how to deal with such a problem more elegantly. The problem I am having is that after I load the entity and try to update the collection, I don't get any errors, but the collection is never updated: Entity: @OneToMany(cascade = CascadeType.PERSIST) @JoinTable protected List<User> users; File Servlet @In private EntityQuery<File> File_findById; ... File file = File_findById(fileId); file.getUsers().add(user); session.update(file); Even though I call session.update(file) and I see stuff in hibernate logs, I don't see anything in the database indicating that it was saved. The problem is the rowmapper in the test is different from the rowmapper in the DAO. So the expectation is not met. I tried to put with around the sql query and with(any(RowMapper.class)) for the rowmapper. It wouldn't work either, complains about "not all parameters were given explicit matchers: either all parameters must be specified by matchers or all must be specified by values, you cannot mix matchers and values"

    I have simple map-reduce type algorithm, which I want to implement in python and make use of multiple cores. I read somewhere that threads using native thread module in 2.6 dont make use of multiple cores. is that true?     I have a NSMutableArray I get by loading a plist into it. The date field comes in as a string and i want to change it into a nsdate. I can change an nsstring into an nsdate. My array is an array of objects like the one below; { Date = "1/1/2009" Description = "Have you ever looked at a badger and thought i wonder how far you could fire that out of a cannon? Well this talk is for you"; File = "http://www.badgerCannon.org.uk/mp3/070310pm.mp3"; Series = "The Badger planet"; Speaker = "Will Ferell"; Title = "Is it a bird, is it a plane? no its a badger"; } I loop through and pull out the date and convert it from a NSString to a NSDate. I try writing it back in using the code; [[self.MediaDataArray objectAtIndex:i] replaceObjectAtIndex:0 withObject:Date]; but it errors and i am pretty sure it is because i am not putting it back into the array in the same format, ie just as a date not as date = "date". But lets face it i don't really know! Am i barking up the wrong tree? Please help, i have got the coding equivalent of writters block, or alternatively am just being really stupid! thanks in advance
