• Output of free -m on a Linux server

  I can see from this page here: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/ That the correct amount of free ram is on the "-/+ buffers/cache" line. The extra ram being used is for disk caching. However, I noticed that the total amount of memory used listed in "-/+ buffers/cache" line is significantly less than the sum total of the "RES" column of the processes shown in top. And AFAIK, the "RES" column is how much physical memory is being used by a process. How do you explain this discrepancy?

• SQL CLR not properly enabling

  We have a SQL server running SQL 2005 Workgroup 64 bit (9.0.4273), on Windows 2003 server 64 bit. We have run sp_configure and reconfigured the server which indicates that the clr is now enabled. exec sp_configure 'clr enabled', '1' go reconfigure go However, when trying to call CREATE ASSEMBLY the server completely dies on us and we have to do a full reboot of the machine. A little more diagnostic information, even though clr enabled is set to 1 and we have rebooted the full server, running the following statement select * from sys.dm_clr_properties returns directory version state locked CLR version with mscoree which is what it says when the CLR is not enabled on another machine. On a correctly enabled machine (after reboot) this function reads directory C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\ version v2.0.50727 state CLR is initialized

Then I get the following error: Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify... I've been using Google without any results, and I'm in deep need for help..   I'm developing a new node.js based frontend for an old intranet site using mssql server and Classic ASP. Both the new and the old site will coexist during the transition phase and both must access the same mssql server using the same database principals. The old ASP/IIS site uses integrated windows login. The new node-based frontend has to use sql server based logins/principals (edit: while the IIS/ASP site must keep using Windows server principals) and all existing database users/principals must keep working wherever they login from. From reading around, it appears that a database principal can not be assigned to multiple server principals, therefore it seems unlikely there's a simple solution to this. I'd like to know if anybody has had to deal with a similar situation before and how they've gone about it.

This Works fine in a standalone system. However when I use the same in a multitier (Web server, Application Server and DB Server) architecture it is throwing 4861 error. Could you please help? The Files are stored in the Web Server.   My service is hosted on IIS7, windows 2008 server with sql server2008 express. I am getting following error when the process takes more than 2 minutes i got this response, i m unable to find out either it is due to sql server time out or wcf time out. my sql server process is also took long. An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://REMOTE/SynchronizationService_test/SyncService.svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.

  Hello, i'm trying to send/receive data over wifi to an iphone/ipodtouch app from a C# tcpip server. for this i used cocoaAsyncSocket from the google project. If i push a button and i send a request from ipod to server it returns the requested data(song title for example)..i want to know every second what song is playng...so from C# server i send at intervals of 1 second messages to my app. In my app in an timer with the interval of 1 second i call the asyncSocket read readDataWithTimeout method. My problem is that after 8-9 seconds that method is not called anymore. The connection to the server is still active and the C# server still sends data.. what i want to do is the following thing: - winamp plays a song - C# server asks winamp what songs is he playing and sends the song title to my app. - iphone app receives the data and displays it i don't know why the readDataWithTimeout method is not called anymore after a short period of time..Maybe because the short time between messages sent by the C# server?   Hello everyone, I have a web service in which I am manipulating POST and GET methods to facilitate upload / download functionality for some files in a client/server style architecture. Basically the user is able to click a button to download a specific file, make some changes in the app, then click upload button to send it back. Problem I am having is with the download. Say the user expects 3 files 1.txt, 2.txt and 3.txt. Except 2.txt does not exist on the server. So I have code like (on server side): public class HttpHandler : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest { if (context.Request.HttpMethod == "GET") { GoGetIt(context) } } private static void GoGetIt(HttpContext context) { var fileInfoOfWhereTheFileShouldBe = new FileInfo(......); if (!fileInfoOfWhereTheFileShouldBe.RefreshExists()) { throw new Exception("Oh dear the file doesn't exist"); } ... So the problem I have is that when I run the application, and I use a WebClient on client side to use DownloadFile method which then uses the code I have above, I get: WebException was unhandled: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. (While debugging) If I attach to the browser and use http://localhost:xxx/1.txt I can step through server side code and throw the exception as intended. So I guess I'm wondering how I can handle the internal server error on the client side properly so I can return something meaningful like "File doesn't exist". One thought was to use a try catch around the WebClient.DownloadFile(address, filename) method but i'm not sure thats the only error that will occur i.e. the file doesn't exist.

  I had mod-jk working a while ago but after switching servers and modifying some files, it no longer works. I am using mod_jk-1.2.28 with JBoss 4.2.3 as the backend. In the JBoss server.xml file I have the AJP 1.3 connector defined on port 8009 and I am binding jboss to the server's new IP address. The app I am trying to forward to is deployed as: [TomcatDeployer] deploy, ctxPath=/ManualAlerts, warUrl=.../tmp/deploy/tmp8097651929280250028ManualAlertsApp.ear-contents/ManualAlerts-exp.war/ On the web server, I have worker.properties with a worker set for the JBoss address and port 8009. The mod-jk.conf has JkMount /ManualAlerts/* worker1. Shouldn't this forward all requests to the web server with the URL http://address/ManualAlerts/ to the backend app named ManualAlerts? But if I enter an IP address, I get an error saying "Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined." when calling WebRequest.Create(url). Does someone know how I can modify this to accomplish what I want?

• Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

  I was trying to tune the performance of a running mysql-server by running this command: mysqld_safe --key_buffer_size=64M --table_cache=256 --sort_buffer_size=4M --read_buffer_size=1M & After this i'm unable to connect mysql from the server where mysql is running. I get this error: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) However, luckily i can still connect to mysql remotely. So all my webservers still have access to mysql and are running without any problems. Because of this though i don't want to try to restart the mysql server since that will probably fuck everything up. Now i know that mysqld_safe is starting the mysql-server, and since the mysql server was already running i guess it's some kind of problem with two mysql servers running and listening to the same port. Is there some way to solve this problem without restarting the initial mysql server? UPDATE: This is what ps xa | grep "mysql" says: 11672 ? S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe 11780 ? • Ruby on rails: Staring mongrel server

  I know mongrel is the default server for "script/server" but when I do that command I get webrick. (I had it working before with mongrel). Now when I tell is to use mongrel ("script/server mongrel") the server fails to start up in the terminal. • Users in database server or database tables

  Hi all, I came across an interesting issue about client server application design. We have this browser based management application where it has many users using the system. So obvisously within that application we have an user management module within it. I have always thought having an user table in the database to keep all the login details was good enough. However, a senior developer said user management should be done in the database server layer if not then is poorly designed. What he meant was, if a user wants to use the application then a user should be created in the user table AND in the database server as a user account as well. So if I have 50 users using my applications, then I should have 50 database server user logins. I personally think having just one user account in the database server for this database was enough. Just grant this user with the allowed privileges to operate all the necessary operation need by the application. The users that are interacting with the application should have their user accounts created and managed within the database table as they are more related to the application layer. I don't see and agree there is need to create a database server user account for every user created for the application in the user table. A single database server user should be enough to handle all the query sent by the application. Really hope to hear some suggestions / opinions and whether I'm missing something? performance or security issues? Thank you very much.
