• Visual Studio 2008 Debugger really slow with SSD

  Hey guys, my setup is a laptop with Win 7 64bit, VS2008 SP1 on an intel x25-m 4gb RAM with page file turned off (no need) and 2.2 core duo What happens is weird: When i build my project and attach the debugger the symbols load REALLY slowly... like 1 every 5 secs Sometimes the symbols will fail to load at all. This is driving me crazy as this was a freshly installed win 7 box with default VS installation, working on ASP.net web applications... i've never had to use symbol servers or any of that jazz so i'm quite frustrated. With this SSD it should breath fire as it does with loading and doing everything else. Am i missing something?

• Xen 4.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.10 not booting

  I'm trying to get Xen 4.0.1 run as dom0 on a fresh/clean install of 10.10 desktop (x64). • Designing a Content-Based ETL Process with .NET and SFDC

  As my firm makes the transition to using SFDC as our main operational system, we've spun together a couple of SFDC portals where we can post customer-specific documents to be viewed at will. As such, we've had the need for pseudo-ETL applications to be implemented that are able to extract metadata from the documents our analysts generate internally (most are industry-standard PDFs, XML, or MS Office formats) and place in networked "queue" folders. From there, our applications scoop of the queued documents and upload them to the appropriate SFDC CRM Content Library along with some select pieces of metadata. I've mostly used DbAmp to broker communication with SFDC (DbAmp is a Linked Server provider that allows you to use SQL conventions to interact with your SFDC Org data). Most of the time I wrap all these operations in a "Worker" class that takes the needed interfaces as constructor parameters. This approach has worked reasonably well, but I just get this feeling in my gut that there's something awful about it and would love some feedback. Is writing an ETL process as a C# Console app a bad idea? I'm also wondering if there are some design patterns that would be useful in this scenario that I'm clearly overlooking. Thanks in advance!

• Creating Multiple Users on Single PHP-FPM Pool

  Have PHP-FPM/FastCGI up and running on my cPanel/WHM server but I'd like have it allow for multiple users off of a single pool. Getting all vhosts to run off a single pool is simple by adding this to the Apache include editor under Global Post Vhost: <IfModule mod_fastcgi.c> FastCGIExternalServer /usr/local/sbin/php-fpm -host 127.0.0.1:9000 AddHandler php-fastcgi .php Action php-fastcgi /usr/local/sbin/php-fpm.fcgi ScriptAlias /usr/local/spin/php-fpm.fcgi /usr/local/sbin/php-fpm <Directory /usr/local/sbin> Options ExecCGI FollowSymLinks SetHandler fastcgi-script Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </IfModule> But I'd like to find a way to implement php running under the user, but sharing the pool. I manage and control all the domains that run under the pool so I'm not concerned about security of files per account, I just need to make sure all scripting can be executed by the user who owns the files, instead of needing to change file permissions for each account, or having to create tons of vhost include files.

• verisign certificate into jboss server SSL

  Hi all, i'm trying to enable jboss to uses ssl protocol using a previously generated certificate from verisign, i imported both certificate, server certificate and ca certificate into the keytore file, and i configured the server.xml to use that keystore and activate ssl protocol, then when i run the jboss, I got this error "certificate or key corresponds to the SSL cipher suites which are enabled" Question, reading some post on internet, i found that every example was made it generating a Certificate Request, it stricly necesary to do that if i already have the server certificate and that CSR has to be imported into the keystore as well ? at this point i'm very confused about this issue, i tried almost every solutions posted in several forums but till now i haven't any luck !! can you give me some tips in order to solve this problem. thanks in advance this are my keystore file: Keystore type: jks Keystore provider: SUN Your keystore contains 2 entries j2ee, Dec 29, 2009, trustedCertEntry, Certificate fingerprint (MD5): 69:CC:2D:2A:2D:EF:C4:DB:A2:26:35:57:06:29:7D:4C ugent, Dec 29, 2009, trustedCertEntry, Certificate fingerprint (MD5): AC:D8:0E:A2:7B:B7:2C:E7:00:DC:22:72:4A:5F:1E:92 and my server.xml configuration:

• Organizing Connections with Folders in Oracle SQL Developer

  How many Oracle databases do you work with on a regular basis? I’m guessing the answer for most of you lies between 1 and 500. This post is really geared for those of you who deal with more than just a handful (5) of database connections. Filters are nice when you need to work with a subset of table data, or even a list of tables. So why wouldn’t they be just as useful for organizing your connections? Here’s my complete list of databases: The folders aren’t there by default, you add them as you need them. Now this isn’t an overly large connection list. But when I need to fire up an impromptu demo for a customer, it’s very nice to be able to drill down into JUST those ‘safe’ environments. This actually saves me a few seconds every time I need to connect to one of my databases. So while it’s a very simple feature, it’s one of those things that I recommend EVERYONE take advantage of as it will save them hours of time over the long haul. Easier to find means I get to work a few seconds faster. This also helps me from making mistakes in ‘production’ environments! How to Add a Connection Folder Select a connection you want to organize. Mouse-right-click, and choose ‘Add to folder.’ You can throw it into a new container or an existing one. Lather, rinse, and repeat as necessary. The only trick is remembering to right-click! However, from within Eclipse, I lack sufficient permissions to perform upgrades on my package and add-ons. I'm a recovering Windows user, and while I have a couple of years Ubuntu experience, I am unfamiliar with the command-line and mainly interact through the packaged GUI. Specifically, I am trying to install the upgrade for Eclipse CVS Clientorg.eclipse.cvs.feature.group1.3.100.v20110520-0800-7B78FHl9VF7BD7KBM4GP9C I am tracking the varying installation advice on a similar question eclipse install: Gaurav Butola Basically, the most current upgrades are available directly from eclipse?... But at some point I remember reading that the latest version of eclipse had been designed for the previous LTS of Ubuntu - I don't know if that is still true. I have read about the vulnerabilities of Java 6, and so I have gone with Open Java 7 openjdk-amd64 (if that has any relevance to which Eclipse package and installation method I choose). But I'm not crazy about the idea of creating a gksudo link in the sidebar launcher. I don't know enough about chown to use it - if that's even appropriate (I don't want stray java escaping from Eclipse and connecting to SkyNet). Another possible solution that I foresee is modifying my user's group memberships/privileges on the file system as a whole. The only other information that I think might be relevant is that I notice that Synaptic installed all of the files into /usr/ instead of /opt/ like I have seen recommended. So should I be changing ownership, reinstalling using a non-Synaptic method, or what? Any advice is greatly appreciated. • #mvvmlight V4 update for Win8 RTM

  With Windows 8 RTM out of the doors (at least for some of us), it was also time to create an update to MVVM Light. I selected the V4 RTM to do this (V4.0.23).This RTM version was released a few weeks ago with no much bells and whistles because I was just too busy to write much about it. Now after some vacation, I will resume blogging on all my favorite topics including of course MVVM Light. Upgrade Upgrading the installations should not require an ununistall, so try to simply run the MSI downloaded from the Download section at http://mvvmlight.codeplex.com/. Should you encounter any issue, try to uninstall the old version first following the steps at http://galasoft.ch/mvvm/cleaning/. Upgrading current apps from Win8 RP to Win8 RTM I didn’t recompile the assemblies of MVVM Light, so if you had a version running with V4.0.23 on Windows 8 RP, you should be able to use the same DLLs on Windows 8 RTM. If you were using earlier versions however, I would recommend doing an upgrade. I noticed a warning regarding the signing certificate. It is due to the PFX key which appears to be outdated after the upgrade to Windows 8 RTM. I solved this warning by replacing the old PFX key with a new one I copied from a new project. The warning did not cause the build to fail though. About MVVM Light V4 RTM The RTM is finalizing quite a lot of issues. The change log is available at http://galasoft.ch/mvvm/installing/changes/. There are some issues that are either still open or that popped up since then, and I am working on V4.1 to be released in the next few weeks.   On windows, when I plugged in the usb connector, to the device was recognized as a mass storage device and installed all the drivers, to my computer, then the device, automatically restarted and started behaving like a modem, I'm writing this post, using the same modem, through windows... On linux mint (debian kernel, similar to ubuntu 8.10), the device is recognized as a mass storage device, some times, but, has no programs, useful for linux... When I use the modem on windows and restart the computer and login to linux, the device shows up as "not yet configured" in the terminal command "lsusb"... I googled a lot for solutions, tried many things, atlast, configured it and run the command "wvdial". But, get the error, that the modem is not responding, at last ! :'( Please help me out... Many more people are facing this problem, as I could discover, when I googled for it. this is the website address of huawei, the company of my modem... • How do I disable certain folders from appearing in my IMAP client when using Gmail?

  I'm using the newest version of Gmail, as far as I know, and there used to be the option in Settings - Labels that said "Show in IMAP" next to label/folder names. This option is no longer there, unfortunately. How do I hide specific labels/folders, e.g. All Mail, from Thunderbird, my IMAP client? In both Firefox 17.0 and Chromium 20.0.1132.47 on Ubuntu 12.04, without an extensions, these options do not appear, so it doesn't appear to be a browser issue. In the past, I had to enable "Advanced IMAP Controls" in Settings - Labs for the "Show in IMAP" controls to appear, but according to this post, those controls "graduated" and should appear under Settings- Labels. What can I do to show or hide specific folders in IMAP?

• Trying to learn how to use WCF services in a WPF app, using MVVM

  We're working on a major re-write of a legacy VB6 app, into a WPF app. I've written several WCF services, which are meant to be used with the new WPF app. We want to use the MVVM design pattern to do this, but we don't have experience at that. So, in order to learn MVVM we've watched a video on WindowsClient called How Do I: Build Data-driven WPF Application using the MVVM pattern. This is a great introduction, and we refer to it a lot, but for our situation it doesn't quite give us enough. For example, we're not certain how to use datasets returned by my WCF services in our new WPF app using the ideas that Todd Miranda introduced in the video I referenced. If we did as we think we're supposed to do, then we should design a class that is exactly like the class of data returned in my WCF service. But we're wondering, why do that, when the WCF service already has such a class? And yet, the class in the WPF app has to at least implement the INotifyPropertyChanged interface. So, we're not sure what to do.

• Where did ULSTraceLog go to in the SharePoint 2010 Logging Database?

  The Logging Database is one of the many new concepts that will make the life of many SharePoint administrators quite a bit more enjoyable. In SharePoint 2007 the Unified Logging System (ULS) logged all of its data to text files, typically found on your SharePoint server in 12\LOGS. We still have that in SharePoint 2010, but besides those text files, ULS can also write the data to a database! The advantages are obvious: easy to query, one central location for all servers in the farm, easy to build reports etc. You can find this ULS data in the SharePoint 2010 logging database (typically called WSS_Logging), in the view ULSTraceLog. Quite recently on one of my demo machines (standalone installation on Windows 7) I noticed the ULSTraceLog view was not available in the logging database. It turned out that there is a Timer Job that’s responsible for writing the data to the database, when the Timer Job hasn’t executed, the view is not there (the first time it executes, the view is created). Even more, the timer job was disabled, so the view would never be created, nor any data would be written to the database. If you encounter this situation as well, it’s quite easy to solve: Open the SharePoint Central Administration site Navigate to the Monitoring section Select Review Job Definitions Click on the job with the name Diagnostic Data Provider: Trace Log Click on the Enable button to enable it Optionally click on Run Now afterwards, to start it immediately There you go, the ULSTraceLog will be created and the ULS messages will appear in the database!

  I've been researching this on google for literally 3 weeks, racking my brain and still not quite finding anything. I can't believe this is so elusive. (I'm a complete beginner so if my terminology sounds stupid then that's why.) I have a database in mysql/phpmyadmin on my web host. I'm trying to create a front end that will allow a user to specify criteria for querying the database in a way that they don't have to know sql, basically just combo boxes and checkboxes on a form. Then have this form 'submit' a query to the database, and show the filtered tables. This is how the SQL looks in Microsoft Access: PARAMETERS TEXTINPUT1 Text ( 255 ), NUMBERINPUT1 IEEEDouble; // pops up a list of parameters for the user to input SELECT DISTINCT Table1.Column1, Table1.Column2, Table1.Column3,* // selects only the unique rows in these three columns FROM Table1 // the table where this query is happening WHERE (((Table1.Column1) Like TEXTINPUT1] AND ((Table1.Column2)<=[NUMBERINPUT1] AND ((Table1.Column3)>=[NUMBERINPUT1])); // the criteria for the filter, it's comparing the user input parameters to the data in the rows and only selecting matches according to the equal sign, or greater than + equal sign, or less than + equal sign What I don't get: WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I SUPPOSED TO USE (that isn't totally hard)!? I've looked into using jQuery with google spreadsheets, doesn't work at all either I have no idea how I'm supposed to build a front end with my database. Every place that looks promising (like zohocreator) is asking for money, and is far too simplified to be able to do the LIKE criteria or SELECT DISTINCT stuff.
