It works in all browsers. The only issue I'm running into is that in IE6 the video keeps playing and in other browsers it stops the video your watching and loads the one you clicked on. I looked into using the .remove object or the .append to a div, but I can't seem to get that to work and if it does work will it play nice with IE6. Try it out and maybe solve my issues.

  Both Thread.Sleep(timeout) and resetEvent.Wait(timeout) cause execution to pause for at least timeout milliseconds, so is there a difference between them? I know that Thread.Sleep causes the thread to give up the remainder of its time slice, thus possibly resulting in a sleep that lasts far longer than asked for. Does the Wait(timeout) method of a ManualResetEvent object have the same problem?

• Clojure vars and Java static methods

  I'm a few days into learning Clojure and are having some teething problems, so I'm asking for advice. I'm trying to store a Java class in a Clojure var and call its static methods, but it doesn't work. Example: user=> (. java.lang.reflect.Modifier isPrivate 1) false user=> (def jmod java.lang.reflect.Modifier) #'user/jmod user=> (. jmod isPrivate 1) java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No matching method found: isPrivate for class java.lang.Class (NO_SOURCE_FILE:0) at clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:4543) From the exception it looks like the runtime expects a var to hold an object, so it calls .getClass() to get the class and looks up the method using reflection. In this case the var already holds a class, so .getClass() returns java.lang.Class and the method lookup obviously fails. Is there some way around this, other than writing my own macro? In the general case I'd like to have either an object or a class in a varible and call the appropriate methods on it - duck typing for static methods as well as for instance methods. In this specific case I'd just like a shorter name for java.lang.reflect.Modifier, an alias if you wish. I know about import, but looking for something more general, like the Clojure namespace alias but for Java classes. Are there other mechanisms for doing this? Edit: Maybe I'm just confused about the calling conventions here. I thought the Lisp (and by extension Clojure) model was to evaluate all arguments and call the first element in the list as a function. In this case (= jmod java.lang.reflect.Modifier) returns true, and (.getName jmod) and (.getName java.lang.reflect.Modifier) both return the same string. So the variable and the class name clearly evaluate to the same thing, but they still cannot be called in the same fashion. What's going on here? Edit 2 Answering my second question (what is happening here), the Clojure doc says that If the first operand is a symbol that resolves to a class name, the access is considered to be to a static member of the named class... Otherwise it is presumed to be an instance member http://clojure.org/java_interop under "The Dot special form" "Resolving to a class name" is apparently not the same as "evaluating to something that resolves to a class name", so what I am trying to do here is something the dot special form does not support.

When i came back, the cpp file wouldn't open through visual studio, I have the exe and object files. Please tell me I can get my source code back :( EDIT: the .cpp file is blank, and i wasn't prompted for recovery when starting visual studio again. I already checked /documents/visualstudio/backup, nothing is there.

• WCF Service with callbacks coming from background thread?

  Here is my situation. I have written a WCF service which calls into one of our vendor's code bases to perform operations, such as Login, Logout, etc. A requirement of this operation is that we have a background thread to receive events as a result of that action. For example, the Login action is sent on the main thread. Then, several events are received back from the vendor service as a result of the login. There can be 1, 2, or several events received. The background thread, which runs on a timer, receives these events and fires an event in the wcf service to notify that a new event has arrived. I have implemented the WCF service in Duplex mode, and planned to use callbacks to notify the UI that events have arrived. Here is my question: How do I send new events from the background thread to the thread which is executing the service? Right now, when I call OperationContext.Current.GetCallbackChannel<IMyCallback>(), the OperationContext is null. Is there a standard pattern to get around this? I am using PerSession as my SessionMode on the ServiceContract. UPDATE: I thought I'd make my exact scenario clearer by demonstrating how I'm receiving events from the vendor code. My library receives each event, determines what the event is, and fires off an event for that particular occurrence. I have another project which is a class library specifically for connecting to the vendor service. It's very similar to this question (Call trace in java), but on different platforms (jvm-PC vs dvm-Android).   I have a simple foundation tool that exports every frame of a movie as a .tiff file. However, over the course of stepping through a movie, the amount of memory used by the program still gradually increases. Instruments is not detecting any memory leaks per se, but the object trace shows certain General Data blocks to be increasing in size. [Edited out reference to slowdown as it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem as I thought.] Edit: let's knock out some parts of the code inside the loop & see what we find out... Test 1 while (banana) { NSAutoreleasePool *arp = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSString *filePath = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"/somelocation_%d.tiff", i++]; NSLog(@"%@", filePath); [sourceMovie stepForward]; [arp release]; } Here we simply loop over the whole movie, creating the filename and logging it. Memory characteristics: remains at 15MB usage for the duration. Test 2 while (banana) { NSAutoreleasePool *arp = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSImage *image = [sourceMovie currentFrameImage]; [sourceMovie stepForward]; [arp release]; } Here we add back in the creation of the NSImage from the current frame. Memory characteristics: gradually increasing memory usage. RSIZE is at 60MB by frame 200; 75MB by f300. Test 3 while (banana) { NSAutoreleasePool *arp = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSImage *image = [sourceMovie currentFrameImage]; NSData *imageData = [image TIFFRepresentation]; [sourceMovie stepForward]; [arp release]; } We've added back in the creation of an NSData object from the NSImage. Memory characteristics: Memory usage is again increasing: 62MB at f200; 75MB at f300. In other words, largely identical. It looks like a memory leak in the underlying system QTMovie uses to do currentFrameImage, to me.

• C# System.Diagnostics.Process redirecting Standard Out for large amounts of data

  I running an exe from a .NET app and trying to redirect standard out to a streamreader. The problem is that when I do myprocess.exe out.txt out.txt is close to 14mb. When I do the command line version it is very fast but when I run the process from my csharp app it is excruciatingly slow because I believe the default streamreader flushes every 4096 bytes. Is there a way to change the default stream reader for the Process object?
