  • Are self-described / auto-descriptive services loosely or tightly coupled in a SOA architecture ?

    - by snowflake
I consider a self-described / auto-descriptive service as a good thing in a SOA architecture, since (almost) everything you know to call the service is present in the service contract (such a WSDL). Sample of a non self-described service for me is Facebook Query Language (FQL http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FQL), or any web service exchanging XML flow in a one String parameter for then parsing XML and performing treatments. Last ones seem further more technically decoupled, since technically you can switch implementations without technical impact on the caller, handling compatibility between implementations/versions at a business level. On the other side, having no strong interface (diluted into the service and its version), make the service tightly coupled to the existing implementation (more difficulty to interchange the service and to ensure perfect compatibility). This question is related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2503071/how-to-implement-loose-coupling-with-a-soa-architecture So, are self-described / auto-descriptive services loosely or tightly coupled in a SOA architecture ? What are the impacts regarding ESBs ? Any pointer will be appreciated.

  • ASP.NET Session StateServer - is it possible to extract info about current sessions?

    - by Moe Sisko
I'm looking into changing the ASP.NET session state mode of our application from SQLServer to StateServer (for performance reasons). In SQLServer mode, it is easy to extract information about the current sessions by querying SQL Server tables like ASPStateTempSessions. e.g. things like when each session was created, when it is due to expire, etc. You could even query the session state blob data to extract further application specific info (e.g. like the UserID, if it was saved in session state). This info was useful for administrators. Just wondering if anyone has managed to do something similar for StateServer mode.

  • how do I do this UPDATE in sqlite?

    - by Jason S
I have a table assoc containing columns local_id, remote_id, cachedData I can successfully run an SQLITE query that looks like SELECT a1.local_id, a1.remote_id FROM assoc a1 LEFT JOIN .... so that I identify certain rows of the assoc table that meet my criteria. What I would like to do is to set cachedData to null in those rows. How can I do this? Sqlite doesn't support UPDATE with joins; you can issue subqueries but I can't figure out how to get the syntax correct; it seems nonintuitive to me.

I'm doing this in my localhost with php 5 & mysql 5. So suggest me some technique to handle this situation. Is that mongodb is good alternative for handling this process in our local machine? Thanks, Nithish.

  • I can't Distinct, Sum, or Count from 3 tables with group clauses

    - by Rio Inggit Dharmawangsa
    I'm still learning linq, now i'm getting confused. I need data for report from 3 tables, I get the result, but it's duplicate. I have used distinct but it's not working, n I need data to be sum still not working. Here is my query, can somebody explain what's wrong? var report= (from u in myDb.TBL_TRANSAKSI_MKN_MNMs.AsEnumerable() where u.TGL_TRANSAKSI.Value.Date.Equals(dateTimePicker1.Value.Date) join l in myDb.TBL_DETAIL_TRANSAKSIs.AsEnumerable() on u.ID_NOTA equals l.ID_NOTA join m in myDb.TBL_MKN_MNMs.AsEnumerable() on l.ID_MKN_MNM equals m.ID_MKN_MNM group new { u, l, m } by new { m.NAMA_MKN_MNM, m.HARGA_JUAL, u.TGL_TRANSAKSI, l.ID_MKN_MNM, u.USERNAME, l.Jumlah } into grp select new { MakanMinum = grp.Key.NAMA_MKN_MNM, HargaJual = grp.Key.HARGA_JUAL, Stok = grp.Sum(groupedthing => groupedthing.l.Jumlah), Tanggal = grp.Key.TGL_TRANSAKSI, Jumlah =(grp.Key.HARGA_JUAL * grp.Sum(groupedthing => groupedthing.l.Jumlah)), Total = grp.Sum(grouptotal => grp.Key.HARGA_JUAL * grp.Sum(groupedthing => groupedthing.l.Jumlah)), Username = grp.Key.USERNAME }).Distinct();

  • Getting the most frequent items without counting every item

    - by DeadMonkeyWalkin
Hi. I was wondering if there was an algorithm for counting "most frequent items" without having to keep a count of each item? For example, let's say I was a search engine and wanted to keep track of the 10 most popular searches. What I don't want to do is keep a counter of every query since there could be too many queries for me to count (and most them will be singletons). Is there a simple algorithm for this? Maybe something that is probabilistic? Thanks!

  • Visual Studio stops debugging with no errors unexpectedly

    - by HeavyWave
I am debugging a project and Visual Studio stops debugging and closes the program on the following line with no exceptions or error messages (I have enabled notifications for any thrown exceptions in options): var query = Session.Linq<RSS>() .Where(x => x.LastRetrieved <= date || x.LastRetrieved == null) .Where(x => x.Moderated); Where Session.Linq refers to LINQ2NHibernate. Anyway, the question is: what are the possible reasons for such behavior? Tested both on VS 2010 and 2008 - they behave identically just falling out of debugging.

  • Can jQuery perform a compound select against the top level only? (a.k.a. "How to avoid chaining chil

    - by harpo
Basically, is there a way to write a.children('.outer').children('.inner') without the intermediate selector? I can't write $('.outer > .inner', a) because I don't want to do full-depth search against a — I know that the .outer elements are immediate children of a. It's partly a matter of "elegance", but partly because I'm trying to avoid "throwaway" element sets. Yes, jQuery may in effect do the same thing, but it has a better chance of optimizing (at least in theory), when it knows the full query's intent.

  • Entity Framework (4.0) how to exclude a related table.

    - by Kohan
I have just updated to using EF 4.0 where before i was using Linq 2 SQL. I have a query: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); This was generating an error: "A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type" This prompted this code which worked fine in L2S: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); foreach (User u in UserList){ u.Subscriptions = null; } return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); How can i stop EF from looking into the Subscriptions table, i just want the Userlist, none of the related properties and the above example does not seem to work for this. • Adding Controls Programatically

    - by Mike Keller
I have a page I need to build out where depending on the selection the user made on a form on the page prior it displays a different set of questions for them to answer. So say the user selects Reason A from the form on page edit, then it needs to display Questions 1 and 2 on page edit_confirmation. But if they select Reason B then it needs to display Questions 3 and 4. I'm grabbing the reason code from the query string and have a switch statement set up, but I can't find anywhere how to output different controls. If Questions 1 and 2 are supposed to show up, one could be a text box and the other a checkbox, but if questions 3 and 4 are supposed to show up one may need to be a dropdown list and a checkbox.

  • How should I capture clickstream data?

    - by editor
I'd like to start using clickstream analysis to improve a dynamic site's user experience. I'd like to rule out two options: parameterizing URLs (index.php?src=http://www.example.com) and immediate database logging. The former makes pretty ugly URLs and isn't great for SEO and the latter might slow down page render when there are lots of concurrent users. Assuming these aren't viable options, I think I'm left with doing an asynchronous POST to a server side script that runs a database query and returns a 204 (no data) response. Is this the best option for capturing clickstream data?

  • To create new DB connection or not?

    - by Yeti
I'm running a cron job (every 15 minutes) which takes about a minute to execute. It makes lots of API calls and stores data to the database. Right now I create a mysql connection at the beginning and use the same connection through out the code. Most of the time is spent making the API calls. Will it be more efficient to create a new database connection only when it's time to store the data (below)? Kill the last connection Wait for API call to complete Create new DB connection Execute query Goto 1

  • thinking sphinx ordering by mixing capitals and lower case

    - by miccet
I have a rails application that is using thinking_sphinx for the searching. My problem is that the result returned is sorted with capitals first and lower case after it at the bottom. I'd like to mix them so that both 'A' and 'a' comes before 'B'. This is the method I'm using: Company.search(query, :star => true, :page => params[:page], :per_page => 20, :order => :name, :sort_mode => :asc)

  • group by, order by, with join

    - by Scarface
Hey guys, quick question, I have this query, and I am trying to get the latest comment for each topic and then sort those results in descending order (therefore one comment per topic). I have what I think should work, but my join always messes my results up. Somehow, it seems to have sorted the end results properly, but has not taken the latest comment from each topic instead it seems to have just taken a random comment. If anyone has any ideas, would really appreciate any advice SELECT * FROM comments JOIN topic ON topic.topic_id=comments.topic_id WHERE topic.creator='admin' GROUP BY comments.topic_id ORDER BY comments.time DESC table comments is structured like id time user message topic_id table topic is structured like topic_id subject_id topic_title creator timestamp description

  • Database design question

    - by Lijo
Hi Team, I have an interesting database design problem that I formulated while travelling by a bus, coming back from my home. Design a normalized database for a bus ticketing system (not reservation system). In each trip, the conductor of the bus will give tickets to its passengers after collecting fare from them. Passengers travel from a various source places to various destination places. The system must be able to give a report of the places for which the number of passengers was more than 2. Suppose the stops for the bus are L1,L2, L3 and L4 Suppose passenger P1 travels from L1 to L4. P2 travels from L2 to L4. P3 travels from L3 to L4. The report should list only (L3-L4) for which it has more than 2 travelers. Can you please help me to solve the following problems 1) Design a normalized database 2) Write a query for the report 3) Is there any site that gives these kinds of interesting database design questions and answers? Thanks Lijo

  • Working with three dimensional data in an HTML (ASP.NET) table.

    - by ProfK
I am working on the prototype for a scheduling application on an intranet system. The application is for scheduling and tracking promotional workers at various locations on various dates (hence location, date, workers dimensions). Currently, only for prototyping, I am generating a data table of location/date, and from this I iteratively build an HTML table (asp:Table control). On visiting each cell, I query for people working that location-date and populate the cell accordingly. This is very inefficiant, and will at worst be improved by querying cached data for the whole location/date grid. I'm looking around for established patterns and techniques for dealing with scenarios like this in HTML in general, maybe a visualisation library for jQuery or something, and for ASP.NET in particular, maybe a library for implementation on a GridView etc. Am I going in the right direction with this, and if so, what recomendations are there regarding the previous paragraph?

  • Network ActiveRecord relation with Rails

    - by Zag zag..
Hi, I have a has and belongs to many relation between User and Article models, and I would like to link them even if an article if not hosted on the same database then a user. For example, If an article exists at foo.com/articles/3 and a user exists at bar.com/users/1, If would like to be able to do from foo.com web interface or bar.com web interface this kind of query: a_user.articles (or an_article.users). I think this can be possible adding a field like "url" in users and articles tables. But I don't know how to process for ActiveRecord. My Article model looks like this: class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :users end Is there yet some example of project using this kind of relation over internet? Many thanks

  • Index for wildcard match of end of string

    - by Anders Abel
I have a table of phone numbers, storing the phone number as varchar(20). I have a requirement to implement searching of both entire numbers, but also on only the last part of the number, so a typical query will be: SELECT * FROM PhoneNumbers WHERE Number LIKE '%1234' How can I put an index on the Number column to make those searchs efficient? Is there a way to create an index that sorts the records on the reversed string? Another option might be to reverse the numbers before storing them, which will give queries like: SELECT * FROM PhoneNumbers WHERE ReverseNumber LIKE '4321%' However that will require all users of the database to always reverse the string. It might be solved by storing both the normal and reversed number and having the reversed number being updated by a trigger on insert/update. But that kind of solution is not very elegant. Any other suggestions?

  • MySQL range date overlap check

    - by Glide
    This table is used to store sessions CREATE TABLE session ( id int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , start_date date , end_date date ); INSERT INTO session (start_date, end_date) VALUES ("2010-01-01", "2010-01-10") , ("2010-01-20", "2010-01-30") , ("2010-02-01", "2010-02-15") ; We don't want to have conflict between ranges Let's say we need to insert a new session from 2010-01-05 to 2010-01-25 We would like to know the conflicting session(s). Here is my query: SELECT * FROM session WHERE TRUE AND ("2010-01-05" BETWEEN start_date AND end_date OR "2010-01-25" BETWEEN start_date AND end_date OR "2010-01-05" >= start_date AND "2010-01-25" <= end_date ) ; Here is the result: +----+------------+------------+ | id | start_date | end_date | +----+------------+------------+ | 1 | 2010-01-01 | 2010-01-10 | | 2 | 2010-01-20 | 2010-01-30 | +----+------------+------------+ Is there a better practice way to get that ?

  • Document/Scripts management for R code

    - by harshsinghal
Hi useRs, I am looking for a solution that allows me to keep a track of a multitude of R scripts that I create for various projects and purposes. Some scripts are easily tracked to specific projects, whereas others are "convenience" functions created to serve a set of tasks. Is there a way I can create a central DB and query it to find which scripts match most appropriately? I could create a system using a DBMS manually, but are users aware of anything in general or specific to R, that comes in the form of a software tool (maybe FOSS) ?

Is there any way I can select all parents without having the child details in the select list? Thanks
