• Need help with jquery sorting

  I have a column within which are multiple 'records' (each a div). Each record has a bunch of fields (each a span whose id is the fieldname). I want to allow the user to sort all the records based on a field. I also want, the field that has been sorted to be moved to the beginning of the record. So I came up with this. But its really slow for a large sets. Not sure whats the best way to do this. Any ideas? $(".col1 div").sort( function (a,b) { if($(a).children("."+field).text() > $(b).children("."+field).text()) return -1; else return 1; }).appendTo(".col1");

• Jumping over a While loop in Debug mode

  Here is the scenario: I put a break point at the beginning of a method that I want to debug... at first lets say there is Part1 in this method that I want to step into/over some of the codes... good... after that there is a While loop that I am NOT interested to step into/over it, I just want to tell the debugger that Hey you yourself run this loop for 10 times and just let me move to Part2 of my code which starts after this While loop , is it possible to do this with debugging options? so something like this : BreakPoint : MyMethod { Part One of the code : Ok, lets debug it While Loop : I do not care, Do not want to debug it Part Two of the code: Yes, I want to debug it too }

  The Rules: An employee accrues 8 hours of Paid Time Off on the day after each quarter. Quarters, specifically being: Jan 1 - Mar 31 Apr 1 - Jun 30 Jul 1 - Sep 30 Oct 1 - Dec 31 The Problem Employees will use an automated system to request paid time off, possibly occurring in the past, as well as the future. Requests should only be accepted if the employee has (or will have) that time available. For instance, if an employee only has 1 Day of Paid Time Off currently available (currently being January 20th), but is requesting 2 Days of Paid Time Off, beginning September 20th, the system should take into account that the employee would have accrued enough time off by then and allow the request. (Obviously ignoring that the employee may use up existing time before that date). I'm currently using Python, and wondering what the correct approach to something like this would be. I'm assuming that using DateTime objects, and possibly the dateutil module, would help here, but my brain isn't wrapping around this problem for some reason.

• Statically linked libraries not running code inside to setup static variables.

  In a c++ project I am working on, I have a simple c++ file that needs to run some code at the beginning of the program execution. This file is linked into a static library, which is then linked into the main program. I have similar code in other files running fine, that looks something like: bool ____nonexistent_value = executeAction(); However, it does not work inside this file unless I make use of a function implemented in this file. It does work if the library is compiled as a shared library. I'd prefer to link this statically as the library is only a convenience as the file is in a different directory.

• Methods for breaking up content client-side into multiple "pages"

  I have a long HTML text-only article formatted with paragraph tags. What I'd like to do is break this content into N number of divs so that I can create individual pages. So, for instance, on an iPad/iPhone, instead of reading one long page the user could swipe right/left to navigate to pages. My initial javascript attempts have been somewhat convoluted: creating an array of the text, measuring line-heights, device window heights, adding closing/opening paragraph tags and the end/beginning of pages. Thoughts on a good way to approach this? I will not have access to server-side processing, this has to be a client-side solution.

• Does beginTransaction in Hibernate allocate a new DB connection?

  Hi folks - Just wondering if beginning a new transaction in Hibernate actually allocates a connection to the DB? I'm concerned b/c our server begins a new transaction for each request received, even if that request doesn't interact with the DB. We're seeing DB connections as a major bottleneck, so I'm wondering if I should take the time narrow the scope of my transactions. Searched everywhere and haven't been able to find a good answer. This code is in a loop and when the loop comes around the second, third whatever time I have it set to it skips the first title input. I need help please why is it skipping my title scanner input in the beginning? • Querying a smalldatetime's date and time seperately in SQL server?

  Imagine a table that has two fields, a smalltimedate and an int and about 1000 rows of data. What I'm attempting to do in query is to find the average of the INT field for rows between 3/3/2010 - 3/13/2010 and only if the entry is between 6:00am - 11:00pm. I tried between '2010-03-03 06:00 AND 2010-03-13 23:00' However that only restricts that very beginning and end times. I could do this with a loop but I'm going to need to have the same query run over much larger date ranges and this will quickly eat server resources. Is there a way to query date and time seperately?

  In my organization, we are just beginning to use the Entity Framework for some applications. In the past, we have pushed developers to utilize stored procedures for all database access. In addition to helping with SQL injection, we tried to grant logins access to stored procedures only to keep security relatively tight. Although inserting, updating, and deleting are easily done through stored procedures in the EF, it appears to be difficult to use stored procedures to query data with EF. However, using LINQ or Entity SQL and allowing EF to create the queries means giving a user read access to the entire database. How have others handled this dilemma?

  I'm a programmer who's beginning to appreciate the knowledge & usability of Algorithms in my work as I move forward with my skill-set. I don't want to take the short path by learning how to apply algorithms "as-is" but would rather like to know the foundation and fundamentals behind them. For that I need Math, at which I'm pretty "basic". I'm considering getting tuition's for that. • Self Modifying Python? How can I redirect all print statements within a function without touching sys.stdout?

  I have a situation where I am attempting to port some big, complex python routines to a threaded environment. I want to be able to, on a per-call basis, redirect the output from the function's print statement somewhere else (a logging.Logger to be specific). I really don't want to modify the source for the code I am compiling, because I need to maintain backwards compatibility with other software that calls these modules (which is single threaded, and captures output by simply grabbing everything written to sys.stdout). I know the best option is to do some rewriting, but I really don't have a choice here. Edit - Alternatively, is there any way I can override the local definition of print to point to a different function? I could then define the local print = system print unless overwritten by a kwarg, and would only involve modify a few lines at the beginning of each routine.

• RoR: Condition Always False - Why?

  Working in RoR 2.3.x. My quiz_results table has a row for user_id (3907) and result (0.1), and two users I'm looking at with no rows in the quiz_results table. This line keeps returining false: -if QuizResult.find_by_user_id(@user_id).present? But if I change it to anything that returns true, the next line reports an error on the * method: ="#{(QuizResult.average('score', :conditions => 'user_id = #{@user.id}') * 100).round}%" The beginning of the code is a loop: [email protected] do |user| Any ideas how to fix?   Hello I build a script that does image uploading and resizing and it all works well, but how can I get the URL from image afterwards? I don't want my Image Source in HTML be like "../img/cat/1.png/" I want it to be like "http://MyIP/img/cat/1.png" I understand that I can just make a variable like $myHost = "http://blabla.com"; and add strip the ".." at the beginning but then it's not so good if I want to use it on other site because I need to replace this all the time. Maybe there is any other way?

  The pImpl idiom in c++ aims to hide the implementation details (=private members) of a class from the users of that class. However it also hides some of the dependencies of that class which is usually regarded bad from a testing point of view. For example if class A hides its implementation details in Class AImpl which is only accessible from A.cpp and AImpl depends on a lot of other classes, it becomes very difficult to unit test class A since the testing framework has no access to the methods of AImpl and also no way to inject dependency into AImpl. This has been a problem for me lately and I am beginning to think that the pImpl idiom and writing testable code don't mix well. Has anyone come across this problem before? and have you found a solution?

• Android png images big in memory

  i have an application in android that has an imageflipper. Problem is, after about 8 images loaded to memory, i get an out of memory error. Well, i tried to do dynamic image loading, so that if the user flips 2 images, i'll load next 2 to memory and delete 2 first ones. It kind of works, but it ugly and i have trouble when user flips images back(imageflipper.showprevious()), i can't really shift all images and place new images to the beginning. My question is, is there a better way to do this kind of stuff? Resizing images didn't really help.

  In a service class there is a method to start the service. If that service gets done executing does it runs onstartcommand from the beginning? Is onstartcommand sorta like a loop as long as the service is running. For example i have onstartcommand { int x = 0; if(x == 0){ } else{ } } After that is complete does it run it again. • Utilizing a third party application for GitHub in a django project

  I'm trying to use a third party application located here: git://github.com/Star2Billing/django-audiofield.git I'm using Aptana Studio as my IDE. I created my project and then I clicked on the project and imported the app from the github location. It looked like it imported. I wanted to check that it imported properly before beginning any real coding so I performed manage.py validate. I got a message that stated: "No module named audiofield". I added the app to my Installed Apps settings and followed the installation instructions. I'm not sure if I'm importing it incorrectly. Also, I'm using virtualenv in Aptana. I'm not sure if this may have added to the problem. Please help.

  I have spent over 2 hours scouring the net trying to figure this out. I am trying to stop multiple form submission any faster than 60 seconds. Here is what I am using. session_start(); if (!isset($_SESSION['last_submit'])) $_SESSION['last_submit'] = time(); if (time()-$_SESSION['last_submit'] < 60) die('Post limit exceeded. Please wait at least 60 seconds'); else $_SESION['last_submit'] = time(); I found this bit here on the site but haven't been able to figure anything else out as far as getting it to work. I have this bit of code on my page at the beginning that does the DB query with the previous pages POST results. Do I need to set $last_submit to a certain value? Any help is appreciated.

  If I try to get endpoints for every year, for example, and do the following: xts.data <- xts(1:10000, order.by=seq(from=as.Date("1970-01-01"), by=1, len=10000)) z <- endpoints(xts.data, on="months", k=12) The return value for this is: > z [1] 0 10000 Same with numbers higher than 12. Why would xts simply not return indices of every year or 13th month starting from the beginning. Is it limited by the number of periods in a year? That is if i did: z <- endpoints(xts.data, on="weeks", k=54) This seems to work fine.

• Need help on understanding Mobile First concept

  So, I worked on responsive sites before but I'm on my way to build my first responsive site now. I opened some articles on the subject, and boom: Mobile First.. I have no idea how I skipped that concept till now. From the beginning I cant seem to understand whole thing (except that number of mobile devices will take out soon desktop computers) and here is why. How I'm supposed to know how my site will look for desktop version, if I design it for mobile first? I mean, on the smallest device I will have to eventually hide some content etc, how I'm supposed to know what to hide and move things, when I don't know how the site will look on bigger screen? Isn't stripping the things easier?!?! For me (right now), the Mobile First concept looks to me like building pyramid upside down.
