  • Loading zsh as the default shell in gnu screen

    Hello, Im using KUbuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). I have installed zsh and screen. I have set zsh as the default shell, by setting Command to zsh in Settings-Edit Current Profile of the terminal. But,when i launch screen,the bash shell is loaded. If i run the command zsh, then zsh starts but the following message is displayed: "/home/joel/.zshrc:36: Can't add module parameter `mapfile': parameter already exists" Also,zsh is invoked for only the current screen instance and i have to invoke it manually again for other instances. So,is there any way to make screen load zsh by default and invoke it automatically for every instance ? Thank You

  • Scaffold default files are the best practice?

    Hey, i have some experience with MVC. but I'm new to rails. I'm using the scaffold command to generate some default files. The model looks clean and nice, but the controller and the views aren't really dry. The contents of new.html.erb and edit.html.erb are almost the same and the methods new/edit and create/update are doing almost the same thing. In other frameworks i've used only one view for updating and creating new entries and also the same method in my controller by setting the id as an optional parameter. Do they use this structure to keep things RESTful (i have not much of a clue about rest :()? Is it the best practice to use this default stuff for crud?

  • ASP .net MVC Invoking default controller and action vs Setting a startup page

    Hi, I am developing code on the sample ASP .net MVC template provided by VS2010. The first time I ran the code without adding anything, the index.aspx page was invoked which is expected. But for some reasons I added a login.aspx and then accidentally set that as a startup page. Now when I ran the application the default startup url look like http://localhost/Views/login.aspx. I am thinking this is not a valid MVC routing path and I get the requested resource cannot be found error. I am not sure how to revert this back and make sure the default ../home/index is invoked. Can any one throw some light on this? Also should I not set the startup page as we do in asp .net webforms?

    Hey Guys, I'm new to jQuery and have an annoying problem. I have some login fields that are filled with default text when the field is empty and then removed when clicked.     I am trying to build a web user control and set some default values for its properties in the code-behind like this: [DefaultValue(typeof(int), "50")] public int Height { get; set; } [DefaultValue(typeof(string), "string.Empty")] public string FamilyName { get; set; } [DefaultValue(typeof(Color), "Orange")] public System.Drawing.Color ForeColor { get; set; } When I add the user control to the page and call it without any properties: <uc1:Usercontrol ID="uc" runat="server" /> the default values are not set and every property is 0 or null. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • My multithread program works slowly or appear deadlock on dual core machine, please help

    I have a program with several threads, one thread will change a global when it exits itself and the other thread will repeatedly poll the global. No any protection on the globals. The program works fine on uni-processor. On dual core machine, it works for a while and then halt either on Sleep(0) or SuspendThread(). Would anyone be able to help me out on this? The code would be like this: Thread 1: do something... while(1) { ..... flag_thread1_running=false; SuspendThread(GetCurrentThread()); continue; } Thread 2 .... while(flag_thread1_running==false) Sleep(0); ....

  • How to convert a C++ program that uses CUDA into MEX

    For work, I am converting the Image Denoising program that comes with the CUDA SDK into a MATLAB program. As far as I know, I have made all the necessary changes required by MATLAB, but when I try to call mex on it, MATLAB returns a bunch of linkage errors that I have no idea how to fix. If anyone has any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. The command I am giving MATLAB is: mex imageDenoisingGL.cpp -I..\..\common\inc -IC:\CUDA\include -L..\..\common\lib -lglut32 And the output from MATLAB is a bunch of these: imageDenoisingGL.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__cutCheckCmdLineFlag@12 referenced in function "void __cdecl __cutilExit(int,char * *)" (?__cutilExit@@YAXHPAPAD@Z) I am running: Windows XP x32 Visual Studio 2005 MATLAB 2007a

    I have the following gifs on my linux system: $ find . -name *.gif ./gifs/02.gif17.gif ./gifs/fit_logo_en.gif ./gifs/halloween_eyes_63.gif ./gifs/importing-pcs.gif ./gifs/portal.gif ./gifs/Sunflower_as_gif_small.gif ./gifs/weird.gif ./gifs2/00p5dr69.gif ./gifs2/iss013e48788.gif ...and so on What I have written is a program that converts GIF files to BMP with the following interface: ./gif2bmp -i inputfile -o outputfile My question is, is it possible to write a one line command using xargs, awk, find etc. to run my program once for each one of these files? Or do I have to write a shell script with a loop?

  • Learning how to program real things.

    How would you guys recommend I actually learn to program real things? I mean, I know how to do basic academic things. I can implement a templated stack/queue/map/etc. data structure in C++ or Java or whatever. I can make a text-based hangman game or whatever. Etc etc. But how can I learn to program something real, something useful? I've done project Euler up to question 100 or so, and I feel like that's given me more mathematical maturity but not programming maturity. Should I buy a book and follow exercises, struggle through interesting projects, etc, ? In short, how did you guys transition from academic exercises to real, fun and/or useful programs?

I identified libCURL as the HTTP client library as it seems simple and reliable. I still need to identify the environment (an IDE) which I can use to develop my project. My program has: poller- which checks the status of the connection a file writer when polled link is down a component which POSTs the file when link is up What is the appropriate IDE for this project?     i am creating web mobile application in mvc4. My problem is when I click on particular link in my application,it works well, but sometimes it automatically redirected to INDEX page that is set as default page in global.asax as routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); Now I don't know why its automatically redirected to INDEX page,even if I have already defined controller and action name where it show redirected as, <a href='@(Url.Action( "ActivityWall", "Home"))' > </a> logically it should redirect to "ActivityWall" page,which it does.but sometime only it goes to INDEX page.then when I clear my cookie problem will again solved but after some time it again start redirecting to INDEX page. I also posted question related to cookies issue yesterday,but I think that is nit main issue. can someone help please ?

    I read somewhere about giving enums default values like so: typedef enum { MarketNavigationTypeNone = 0, MarketNavigationTypeHeirachy = 1, MarketNavigationTypeMarket = 2 } MarketNavigationLevelType; .. but i can't remember the value of doing this. If i don't give them default values - and then someone later on reorders the enum - what are the risks? If i always use the enum name and don't even refer to them by their integer value, is there any risks? The only possible problem i can think of is if i'm initialising an enum from an int value from a DB - and the enum is reordered - then the app would break.

  • Java Program Design Layout Recommendations?

    I've learned enough to begin writing programs from scratch, but I'm running into the problem of not knowing how to design the layout and implementation of a program. To be more precise, I'm having difficulty finding a good way to come up with an action plan before I dive in to the programming part. I really want to know what classes, methods, and objects I would need beforehand instead of just adding them along the way. My intuition is leading me to using some kind of charting software that gives a hierarchal view of all the classes and methods. I've been using OmniGraffle Pro and while it does seem to work somewhat, I'm still having trouble planning out the program in its entirety. How should I approach this problem? What softwares out there are available to help with this problem? Any good reads out there on this issue? Thanks so much! Edit: Oh yeah, I'm using Eclipse and I code mainly in Java right now.

  • Program occasionally stuck when writing to ldap

    hey guys, I have 2 databases for my program : mysql and ldap. All transactions happen to mysql, but i need ldap to connect to ip-phones. There's an option to synchronise the ldap database. So when the ldap is brand new, and mysql contains like 200+ records, it may want to update. But when inserting all those entries, it "freezes". It never happens at the same record, it's very random. Sometimes after 70 records, sometimes at 200 the program quits inserting, and gets stuck. This is very annoying. My best guess is that ldap can't handle that much inserts in a short time. Code isn't the problem, as it is a random problem. Does this seem familiar to somebody or is it just me? Thanks in advance.

  • C++ program runs slow in VS2008

    I have a program written in C++, that opens a binary file(test.bin), reads it object by object, and puts each object into a new file (it opens the new file, writes into it(append), and closes it). I use fopen/fclose, fread and fwrite. test.bin contains 20,000 objects. This program runs under linux with g++ in 1 sec but in VS2008 in debug/release mode in 1min! There are reasons why I don't do them in batches or don't keep them in memory or any other kind of optimizations. I just wonder why it is that much slow under windows. Thanks,

  • Void in main and keeping Dos program from dying

    Alright, so im using bloodshed complier, first thing i should note is im using a 2001 edition C++ for the aboslute beginner, was there any changes to C++ since 2001 that would effect the validity of this book? i ask because i know php has php5 and now php6 but i havent seen any C++3. now for the reason i asked that, in this code it uses, void main (void) why would i want an arguement to be void? what does this do. But when i run the " void main (void) in my compiler it says that main must have a "int" before it. so i cant have "void" main (void); also, once the code runs through, as long as there isnt a "cin" the program closes. is this normal behavior, is there a better way to stop this besides making a cin at the end of my program.

    Hello I've been trying for an hour to run the following program with a the postgresql classpath class Test{ public static void main(String[] args){ try { Class.forName("org.postgresql.Driver"); } catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfe) { System.err.println("Couldn't find Postgresql driver class!"); } } } The program compiled fine with the javac command, but I'm having a hard time running it with the postgresql classpath.   • Program LED with just USB port

    I want to control LED with C# using only USB port. I don't want to attach any other device with USB. I just want to attach LED directly to USB port pins and program it (blink etc). How can i do that? I am new to hardware programming and it will be my first program. EDIT: I can do it already (blink LED) using printer port by attaching one led pin to data pin and other to ground. How can i do the same with USB port? My motherboard does not have a printer port. USB is the only option.
