    Hi I would like to know diff between the above comparisons? I am getting null pointer exception when I check object.getItems() == null. But if I change it to null == object.getItems(), it workes fine.     Why is the ( i < UniqueWords.Count ) expression valid in the for loop, but returns "CS0019 Operator '<' cannot be applied to operands of type 'int' and 'method group'" error when placed in my if?   • gcc compiling error on Solaris 10

    I want to compile a source code, but there are some compiling errors about __sync_xxx functions (__sync_bool_compare_and_swap etc.) GCC version on machine is 3.4.3 (it must be gcc 4.1 or over for supporting atomic builtins), so I have downloaded GCC v4.6, copied it to another directory (I didn't remove v3.4.3) then change the $PATH path for GCC but it doesn't work (the same error occurs). I want to ask that is only changing gcc path with export PATH=... enough for compiling with new GCC?

    I believe this question applies equally well to C# as to Java, because both require that {c,C}ompareTo be consistent with {e,E}quals: Suppose I want my equals() method to be the same as a reference check, i.e.: public bool equals(Object o) { return this == o; } In that case, how do I implement compareTo(Object o) (or its generic equivalent)? Part of it is easy, but I'm not sure about the other part: public int compareTo(Object o) { if (! (o instanceof MyClass)) return false; MyClass other = (MyClass)o; if (this == other) { return 0; } else { int c = foo.CompareTo(other.foo) if (c == 0) { // what here? } else { return c; } } } I can't just blindly return 1 or -1, because the solution should adhere to the normal requirements of compareTo. I can check all the instance fields, but if they are all equal, I'd still like compareTo to return a value other than 0. It should be true that a.compareTo(b) == -(b.compareTo(a)), and the ordering should stay consistent as long as the objects' state doesn't change. I don't care about ordering across invocations of the virtual machine, however. This makes me think that I could use something like memory address, if I could get at it. Then again, maybe that won't work, because the Garbage Collector could decide to move my objects around. hashCode is another idea, but I'd like something that will be always unique, not just mostly unique. Any ideas?

    I am working on a RoR server setup that uses Thin and Nginx. I run everything from an admin user account, not root. RVM runs from my admin user and gem only works in my admin as well. If I sudo that action, nothing happens because my root doesn't "know" thin.   • Open ms word in "compare document" mode from command prompt.

    I am working on a web project where client needs a functionality to first upload some MS word document & then he can compare any two of the uploaded documents. The idea I came up with is to first make the documents available using WEBDAV & then open both documents using command line with "Compare side by side" option. In this way he will be able to compare & modify two documents. The problem is, I am not able to find any command which can be run from command prompt to open two documents in compare mode. Also, if you know any other way to achieve this functionality then please share it with me. Thanks!

    I like Python mostly for the great portability and the ease of coding, but I was wondering, what are some of the advantages that C# has over Python? The reason I ask is that one of my friends runs a private server for an online game (UO), and he offered to make me a dev if I wanted, but the software for the server is all written in C#. I'd love to do this, but I don't really have time to do multiple languages, and I was just after a few more reasons to justify taking C# over Python to myself. I'm doing this all self-taught as a hobby, btw

  • Rolling back file moves, folder deletes and mysql queries

    This has been bugging me all day and there is no end in sight. When the user of my php application adds a new update and something goes wrong, I need to be able to undo a complex batch of mixed commands. They can be mysql update and insert queries, file deletes and folder renaming and creations. I can track the status of all insert commands and undo them if an error is thrown. But how do I do this with the update statements? Is there a smart way (some design pattern?) to keep track of such changes both in the file structure and the database? My database tables are MyISAM. It would be easy to just convert everything to InnoDB, so that I can use transactions. That way I would only have to deal with the file and folder operations. Unfortunately, I cannot assume that all clients have InnoDB support. It would also require me to convert many tables in my database to InnoDB, which I am hesitant to do.

    I need to check in a script if a file was modified since I read it (another application can modify it in between). According to bash manual there is a "-N" test which should report if a file was modified since last read. I tried it in a small script but it seems like it doesn't work. #!/bin/bash file="test.txt" echo "test" > $file cat $file; if [ -N $file ]; then echo "modified since read"; else echo "not modified since read"; fi I also tried an alternative way by touching another file and using if [ "file1" -nt "file2 ]; but this works only on a seconds accuracy which may under rare conditions not be sufficient. Is there any other bash-inbuilt solution for this problem or I do really need to use diff or md5sum?

    Hi all, I've done some searching for this but cannot find what I'm after, specifically. I have two files: "a.txt", "b.txt". Each contains a list of email addresses, separated by newlines. For all lines in "a.txt", I need to check for a match anywhere in "b.txt". If so, the email address in "a.txt" needs to be removed. (Alternatively, a new file "c.txt" could be created with the output if that is easier.) I'm using Mac OS X, so am looking for a shell script that could help, or pointers to how I'd go about constructing the script. Thanks for any help.

    Hi, I have a simple question regarding xcode coding but don't know why things are not performing as I think. I have an array of objects (custom objects). I just want to check if this one is within the array. I used the following code: NSArray *collection = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:A, B, C, nil]; //custom "Item" objects Item *tempItem = [[Fruit alloc] initWithLength:1 width:2 height:3]; //3 instance variables in "Item" objects if([collection containsObject:tempItem]) { NSLog(@"collection contains this item"); } I suppose the above checking will give me a positive result but it's not. Further, I checked whether the objects created are the same. NSLog(@"L:%i W:%i H:%i", itemToCheck.length, itemToCheck.width, itemToCheck.height); for (int i = 0, i < [collection count], i++) { Item *itemInArray = [collection objectAtIndex:i]; NSLog(@"collection contains L:%i W:%i H:%i", itemInArray.length, itemInArray.width, itemInArrayheight); } In the console, this is what I got: L:1 W:2 H:3 collection contains L:0 W:0 H:0 collection contains L:1 W:2 H:3 collection contains L:6 W:8 H:2 Obviously the tempItem is inside the collection array but nothing shows up when I use containsObject: to check it. This is based off a report built in SQL Server Report Builder, where the user can specify multiple text values as a single report parameter. The query for the report grabs all of the values the user selected and stores them in a single variable. I need a way for the query to return only records that have associations to EVERY value the user specified. -- Assume there's a table of Elements with thousands of entries. -- Now we declare a list of properties for those Elements to be associated with. create table #masterTable ( ElementId int, Text varchar(10) ) insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (1, 'Red'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (1, 'Coarse'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (1, 'Dense'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (2, 'Red'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (2, 'Smooth'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (2, 'Hollow'); -- Element 1 is Red, Coarse, and Dense. Sorry if the example looks long-winded or confusing.

    This is a follow-up question to this one: Check for specific integer in a row WHERE user = $name I want a user to be able to comment on my site for exactly five times a day. After this five times, the user has to wait 24 hours. In order to accomplish that I raise a counter in my MYSQL database, right next to the user. So where the name of the user is, there is where the counter gets raised. When it reaches 5 it should stop counting and reset after 24 hours. In order to check the time I use a timestamp. I check if the timestamp is older than 24 hours. If that is the case, the counter gets reseted (-5) and the user can comment again.     Hi guys. Having some image problem with Interop.Word and C#. I want to add an image in the header of the document that I am going to generate. I have this code working perfectly section.Headers[Word.WdHeaderFooterIndex.wdHeaderFooterPrimary].Shapes.AddPicture(@"C:\Logo.jpg", ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x, ref x); Problem is that I can't have "C:\Logo.jpg" in the code since after publishing the project, there would most probably be no Logo.jpg in the C folder of the user. The image is already in my project's resource folder. I've used Image.FromFile("Logo.jpg") before but .AddPicture requires a string and not an image. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.     I have just switched from svn to mercurial and have read some tutorials about it. I've still got some confusions that i hope you could help me to sort out. I wonder if I have understood the folder structure in a mercurial repo right. In a svn repo I usually have these folders: svn: branches (branches/chat, branches/new_login etc) tags (version1.0, version2.0 etc) sandbox trunk Should a branch actually be another clone of the original/central repo in mercurial? it seemed like that when I read the manual. And a tag is just a named identifier, but you should clone the original/central repo whenever you want to create a tag? How about the sandbox? should that be another clone too? So basically you just have in a repo all the folders/files that you would have in the trunk folder? mercurial: central repo: projects folders/files (not in any parentfolder) tag repo: cloned from central repo at a given moment for release (version1.0, version2.0 etc) branch repo: cloned from central repo for adding features (chat, new_login etc) sandbox repo: experimental repo (could be pushed to central repo, or just deleted) is this correct?

  • Wordpress Custom Query

    I have posts that use a custom field for start date and end date. Query_posts returns an array of posts that exist in the category I'm filtering. How do I query posts using this custom field that has date i.e. 03/11/2010 and not the full array. Pagination works on the full array so it returns all posts. I can use an if else to only show the posts newer that today, then pagination doesn't work. Would I have to build a custom mysql query?
