  • Storage of various linux config files

    I'm using git to track/store all my various config files required for linux. They're organized as if they live in my home directory, eg: .Xresources .config/ Awesome rc.lua .xmodmap .zshrc vim/ <- submodule emacs/ <- submodule etc I use git submodules for other things like vim/emacs configuration (since I also want to keep those separate repos). I'm thinking of creating a shell script to create the various links to these files. The goal is to make it easier to setup another linux painlessly. Is this a reasonable idea? Is there a preferred approach? I'm mostly interested in hearing how others people store their configs.

I block at the command : git config --global user.name "user_name" I use this command connected as the user, and I got this error : error: could not lock config file /home/username/.gitconfig: Permission denied I tried to create the file from root, and then put chmod 755 and chown username .gitconfig, but I get the error.     Gitosis is able to authenticate users based on public/private key pair. It is able to find out which user is currently committing. However, the user name and email is taken from the client's Git configuration ('git config user.name' etc.), which can be set to arbitrary values. Is there any way to associate user names and emails with their public keys and then make Gitosis uses these names and emails as the name and email of the committer?

    We work on our projects locally, and deploy them on remote servers for testing. This is currently done via git commits/push/pulls. But the problem here is that most of the commit contain errors and/or break the code in significant manner due to the lack of testing. Is there a way we can deploy the code on the remote server without using git commits, or some sort of temporary commits or patch or any other mechanism? And only commit, whenever it is important.

  • Can't delete C:\Config.Msi\75ce84f.rbf

    I can't delete C:\Config.Msi\75ce84f.rbf It's not causing any problems but it's a mystery I'd like to solve, preferably before the next reboot because it's scheduled for deletion then (see pendmoves). it's not readonly, system or hidden it's not in use by another process (according to Process Explorer) the NT security permissions aren't the problem either - I am the owner and have Full Control ; as a double-check, the Effective Permissions tab shows that I have permission to delete. Yet trying to delete the file gives "Access is Denied" from both Explorer and cmd. I can however rename it or move it to another folder on the same drive. I can also read it and Virustotal says it's clean which is what I would expect (it's just a Windows Installer temp file - a copy of some DLL I think). The relevant line from Process Monitor is: 6:52:14.3726983 PM 112 Explorer.EXE SetDispositionInformationFile C:\Config.Msi\75ce84f.rbf CANNOT DELETE Delete: True Write 1232 Background: I'm using XP SP2. I recently repaired my Adobe Reader installation to make it the default browser plugin again instead of Foxit. (there seems to be no UI to do it otherwise?) So the installer did its thing and then asked to reboot. As is my habit when rebooting is inconvenient I declined the offer and ran pendmoves to find out what files the installer had scheduled to move / delete. It wanted to delete two files with .rbf extension (rollback files) located in C:\Config.msi\. (this applies to both even though I've been speaking about one). So I tried to delete them manually and couldn't. Does anyone have any ideas what could be preventing deletion? (and I don't think it's malware even though I'm not running AV at the moment)

  • Hosting a website on Heroku.... I know how to, but im running into problems!

    I'm starting to learn more on the back-end scale of programing. Recently I started up Heroku for the second or third time. This time I actually installed the Git update to my Mac and installed Heroku in the terminal. I wanted to upload a static html site with the sinatra gem. Everything worked out fine inside the terminal, though I added sinatra after I got everything working and the file with the site hooked up to Heroku. In my logs I did see that I was missing the sinatra gem, so I installed it. My site contains both the proper app.rb and config.ru files. I have nothing showing up online. Just a blank screen! Contacting Heroku on this problem has been very difficult.   • Nagios Apache Config with PHP-FPM downloading cgi files

    I'm trying to setup Nagios 3 under Apache 2.4 with PHP-FPM. I've run into a couple problems I could use help with. The PHP side of things seems to be working, I can see the home page and the sidebar. But all of the CGI files are downloading instead of executing, and when I try to click on "Read What's New In Nagios Core 3", I get an error /nagios3/docs/whatsnew.html was not found on this server.   • Hosting a website on Heroku.... I know how to, but im running into problems!

    I'm starting to learn more on the back-end scale of programing. Recently I started up Heroku for the second or third time. This time I actually installed the Git update to my Mac and installed Heroku in the terminal. I wanted to upload a static html site with the Sinatra gem. Everything worked out fine inside the terminal, though I added Sinatra after I got everything working and the file with the site hooked up to Heroku. In my logs I did see that I was missing the Sinatra gem, so I installed it. My site contains both the proper app.rb and config.ru files. I have nothing showing up online. Just a blank screen! Contacting Heroku on this problem has been very difficult.   • can't access SATA card config screen on boot, nor access the disks

    We've just upgraded our file server using an ASUS P6T WS Pro board, running FreeBSD-RELEASE 8.2 and using zfs to manage 12 WD20EARS disks. Since our 3ware card has been giving us trouble we started using the six on-board SATA connectors and got a SuperMicro USAS2-L8i to provide eight more ports. Mechanically, the card is an awkward fit but electrically it all seems ok. Upon boot, the LSI controller shows up and states that pressing ctrl-c will bring up the LSI Config Utility. When doing that, the message changes to state that the utility will be started after initialization, however that never happens. There does seem to be an error message that's only displayed too briefly to read and seems to be about PCI and "not enough space". (That message is pushed off by a hardware summary and I've found no way to scroll back at this point.) The disks do not show up in any recognizable ways after booting, either. I found a hint in another discussion to check the address mapping on either the card or the motherboard BIOS, but have found no way to do that. So what I tried on a hunch is to disable everything that's on-board, including network adapters, Firewire controller and SATA. In fact, after doing that, I can successfully launch the LSI Config Utility. As far as I can tell, all looks well in there, and when booting in that configuration it also displays a list of the disks connected to it, which looks just fine as well. Only problem now is that I can't boot that way, because I need the on-board SATA controller and network adapters. As soon as I re-enable any of them I'm back to square one. That discussion I mentioned about mapping addresses said to try D000, then D7FF, then DFFF, in order. The LSI Config Utility shows the card address as D000 but offers no way of changing it. Any tips or insights would be appreciated.

One app I would like to be the "default" app--that is, all URLs should be sent this app by default, except for a certain path, lets call it /foo: http://mydomain.com/ -> app1 http://mydomain.com/apples -> app1 http://mydomain.com/foo -> app2 My two rack apps are installed like so: /var /www /apps /app1 app.rb config.ru /public /app2 app.rb config.ru /public app1 -> apps/app1/public app2 -> apps/app2/public (app1 and app2 are symlinks to their respective apps' public directories). I've tried the following (placed after the location /foo directive), but I get a 500 with an infinite internal redirect in error.log: location / { rewrite ^(.*)$ /app1$1 last; } I hoped that the last directive would prevent that infinite redirect, but I guess not. /foo gets the same error. Our server is serving our program update files and when they download from our server the downloade file is incompleted or crrupted. (Users can not download file with DL manager and the problem is in IE ) for example in slow connection a file with 25mb , after 2Mb downloaded finish . in high speed connections there is no problem. Also when we redirect these slow connection to other port F.e 50005 with the same config they download will be much better but not good as other servers.   • Is there a way to load an existing connection string for Linq to SQL from an app.config file?

    I'm running into a really annoying problem with my Linq to SQL project. When I add everything in under the web project everything goes as expected and I can tell it to use my existing connection string stored in the web.config file and the Linq code pulls directly from the ConfigurationManager. This all turns ugly once I move the code into its own project. I’ve created an app.config file, put the connection string in there as it was in the web.config but when I try to add another table in the IDE keeps forcing me to either hardcode the connection string or creates a Settings file and puts it in there, which then adds a new entry into the app.config file with a new name. Is there a way keep my Linq code in its own project yet still refer back to my config file without the IDE continuously hardcoding the connection string or creating the Settings file? I’m converting part of my DAL over to use Linq to SQL so I’d like to use the existing connection string that our old code is using as well as keep the value in a common location, and one spot, instead of in a number of spots. Manually changing the mode to WebSettings instead of AppSettings works untill I try to add a new table, then it goes back to hardcoding the value or recreating the Settings file. I also tried to switch the project type to be a web project and then rename my app.config to web.config and then everything works as I’d like it to. I’m just not sure if there are any downfalls to keeping this as a web project since it really isn't one. The project only contains the Linq to SQL code and an implementation of my repository classes. My project layout looks like this Website -connectionString.config -web.config (refers to connectionString.config) Middle Tier -Business Logic -Repository Interfaces -etc. DAL -Linq to SQL code -Existing SPROC code -connectionString.config (linked from the web poject) -app.config (refers to connectionString.config)

  • How to permanently remove xcuserdata under the project.xcworkspace and resolve uncommitted changes

    I am struggling with a problem with a merge conflict (see Cannot Merge due to conflict with UserInterfaceState.xcuserstate). Based on feedback, I needed to remove the UserInterfaceState.xcuserstate using git rm. After considerable experimentation, I was able to remove the file with "git rm -rf project.xcworkspace/xcuserdata". So while I was on the branch I was working on, it almost immediately came back as a file that needed to be committed. So I did the git rm on the file again and just switched back to the master. Then I performed a git rm on the file again. The operation again removed the file. But I am still stuck. If I try to merge the branch into the master branch, it again says that I have uncommitted changes. So I go to commit the change. But this time, it shows UserInterfaceState.xcuserstate as the file to commit, but the box is unchecked and it can't be checked. So I can't move forward. Is there a way to use 'git rm' to permanently remove xcuserdata under the project.xcworkspace? Help!! Any ideas?

I would prefer to use git if possible, but I wouldn't mind SVN. Alternatively, if there aren't any, shouldn't there be some way for me to use git without a central repository? I don't know enough about git, but I assume that is the point of a DVCS, no? I've considered scp'ing a clone of the repository to my school unix account and then giving my partner access to that, but it seems like it would be a bit of a pain. What are your thoughts/suggestions? Edit: I do know of one site called xp-dev, but I'm not sure how much I trust it. But I could use that and use git-svn on my side, since my partner has actually only ever used svn. But still wondering if there are any alternatives.

  • Android Eclipse test projects cannot be used with a project being built in an Android build tree

    An Android Java project placed in a git repository and built in an Android tree in /packages/apps needs to have the project files located at the root of the git repository. This is problematic for creating a complementary Test project, which should ideally be included in the same git repository so commits are atomic for both code and tests. Eclipse gets very unhappy if you include the Test project as a subdirectory. Is there an appropriate approach for dealing with this other than creating a second repository?

  • How do I get Eclipse CDT to ignore files

    I have a C++ project in Eclipse. The project uses Perforce and Eclipse has the Perforce plugin installed. Everything was fine, until I decided to create a git repo in my project. I created the git repo to snapshot some changes which I wasn't ready to commit. Everything was fine until I refreshed my files in Eclipse. Two problems have occurred: Eclipse found my .git folder, and indexed all of the files inside of it. Eclipse also decided to add all the git file to my pending change list. If I create a new file within Eclipse, I'd like it to add it to Perforce, but if it happens to find a file, I don't want it to do anything with it. I'd also like to give Eclipse a list of file types to always ignore, just like I do with my .hgignore file.
