  • jQuery onkeyup event in textarea that does not fires when nothing change.

    - by Kucebe
    I was thinking to a function that check the key value pressed, and accept only the most common characters, canc, enter, ... because i need it only for basic ascii character set (not ñ, c, chinese chars, ...). Or function that after every keyup checks if value has changed. But really jQuery doesn't have an event handler for this situation? Oh, it should be cross-borwser.

  • JQuery dialog momentairly displayed on page load

    - by Kevin Won
    I created a page that has a JQuery based dialog using the standard JQuery UI function. I do this with out of the box functionality of JQuery... nothing special at all. Here is my HTML for the dialog: <div id = "myDialog"> <!-- ... more html in here for the dialog --> </div> Then the JQuery called in javascript that transforms the <div> to a dialog: // pruned .js as an example of kicking up a JQuery dialog $('#myDialog').dialog({ autoOpen: false, title: 'Title here', modal: true } }); Again, plain-vanilla JQuery. So you start this wizard by clicking on a link on the parent page, and it then spawns a JQuery dialog which has a significant chunk of HTML that includes images, etc. As I continued developing this page, I started to notice that when I loaded the page in the browser that the <div> tags I was putting in that JQuery transforms into dialogs would very briefly be displayed. Then the page would act as expected. In other words, the dialog would not be hidden, it would be displayed briefly in-line in the page. Quite ugly and unprofessional looking! But after a split second, the page would render correctly and look just as I expected/wanted. Over time, as the page size grew, the time the page would remain incorrectly rendered grew. My guess is that the rendering engine of the browser is rendering the page as it is loading, then at the end it is kicking off the JQuery that will transform the <div> into a dialog. This JQuery function will then transform the simple <div> to a JQuery dialog and hide it (since I have the autoOpen property set to false). Some browsers <cough>IE</cough> display it longer than others. My large-ish dialog now causes the page to incorrectly render for about 1 second... YUCK! I came up with a resolution to this problem which works OK, but I'm wondering if someone knows of a better way.

  • jQuery - How can I temporarily disable the onclick event listener after the event has been fired?

    - by aldux
    How can I temporarily disable the onclick event listener, (jQuery preferred), after the event has been fired? Example: After the user clicks on the button and fires this function below, I want to disabled the onclick listener, therefore not firing the same command to my django view. $(".btnRemove").click(function(){ $(this).attr("src", "/url/to/ajax-loader.gif"); $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/url/to/django/view/to/remove/item/" + this.id, dataType: "json", success: function(returned_data){ $.each(returned_data, function(i, item){ // do stuff }); } }); Thanks a lot, Aldo

  • jQuery animate slidding background image using mouse position wont stop... just keeps going

    - by simian
    I have a neat little jQuery script I am working on. Goal: parent div with overflow hidden holds a larger div with image. When I move the mouse to the left or right of the parent div, the div with image changes margin-left to move left or right. Problem is... if I move the mouse out of the parent div (left or right), the image keeps going. I need the image to stop when the mouse is not on the inside left or right edge of the parent div. Any ideas? <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ jQuery.noConflict (); jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#container').mousemove(function(e){ var parentWidth = jQuery('#container').width(); var parentWidthLeft = Math.round(.1 * jQuery('#container').width()); var parentWidthRight = Math.round(jQuery('#container').width() - parentWidthLeft); var parentHeight = jQuery('#container').height(); var parentOffset = jQuery('#container').offset(); var X = Math.round(e.pageX - parentOffset.left); var Y = Math.round(e.pageY - parentOffset.top); if (X<parentWidthLeft) { jQuery('#image').animate({'left': '-' + parentWidth }, 5000); } if (X>parentWidthRight) { jQuery('#image').animate({'left': parentWidth }, 5000); } if (X<=parentWidthRight && X>=parentWidthLeft) { jQuery('#image').stop(); } if (X<1) { jQuery('#image').stop(); } }); jQuery('#container').mouseleave(function(){ jQuery('#image').stop(); }); }); // ]]> </script> </head> <body> <div id="container" style="width: 500px; height: 500px; overflow: hidden; border: 10px solid #000; position: relative; margin: auto auto;"> <div id="image" style="position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0;"><img src="http://dump4free.com/imgdump/1/Carmen-Electra_1wallpaper1024x768.jpg" alt="" /></div> </div> </body> </html>

  • jQuery.post not working when using data type json

    - by swift
    I have been trying to utilize json in this jQuery.post because I need to return two values from my executed php. The code was working when I was not implementing json. I need to see if a promo code entered is valid for a particular broker. The two variables I need back are the instant message whether or not it's valid (this is displayed to the user) and I need to update a hidden field that will be used later while updating the database. The jQuery.post does not seem to be firing at all, but the code directly above it (the ajax-loader.gif) is working. I did re-write the whole thing at one point using jQuery.ajax, and had issues there too. Granted, I have probably been looking at this too long and have tried to re-write too many times, but any help is greatly appreciated!! Here's the jQuery.post <!-- Below Script is for Checking Promo Code Against Database--> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function() { jQuery("#promocode").keyup(function (e) { //removes spaces from PromoCode jQuery(this).val(jQuery(this).val().replace(/\s/g, '')); var promocode = jQuery(this).val(); var brokerdealerid = document.getElementById("BrokerDealerId").value; if(promocode.length > 0 ){ jQuery("#promo-result").html('<img src="../imgs/ajax-loader.gif" />'); jQuery.post( '../check_promocode.php', {promocode:promocode, brokerdealerid:brokerdealerid}, function(data) { $("#promo-result").html(data.promoresult); $("#promo-result-valid").html(data.promovalid); }, "json"); } }); }); </script> <!-- End Script is for Checking Promo Code Against Database--> Here's relevant code from check_promocode.php: //sanitize incoming parameters if (isset($_POST['brokerdealerid'])) $brokerdealerid = sanitizeMySQL($_POST['brokerdealerid']); $promocode = sanitizeMySQL($promocode); //check promocode in db $results = mysql_query("SELECT PromotionCodeIdentifier FROM PromotionCode WHERE PromotionCodeIdentifier='$promocode' AND BrokerDealerId='$brokerdealerid' AND PromotionCodStrtDte <= CURDATE() AND PromotionCodExpDte >= CURDATE()"); //return total count $PromoCode_exist = mysql_num_rows($results); //total records //if value is more than 0, promocode is valid if($PromoCode_exist) { echo json_encode(array("promoresult"=>"Promotion Code Valid", "promovalid"=>"Y")); exit(); }else{ echo json_encode(array("promoresult"=>"Invalid Promotion Code", "promovalid"=>"N")); exit(); }

  • How to cache dynamic javascript/jquery/ajax/json content with Akamai

    - by Starfs
    Trying to wrap my head around how things are cached on a CDN and it is new territory for me. In the document we received about sending in environment requests, it says "Dynamically-generated content will not benefit much from EdgeSuite". I feel like this is a simplified statement and there has to be a way to make it so you cache dynamically generated content if the tools are configured correctly. The site we are working with runs off a wordpress database, and uses javascript and ajax to build the pages, based on the json objects that php scripts have generated. The process - user's browser this URL, browser talks to edgesuite tools which will have cached certain pre-defined elements, and then requests from the host web server anything that is not cached, once edgesuite has compiled a combination of the two, it sends that information back to the browser. Can we not simply cache all json objects (and of course images, js, css) and therefore the web browser never has to hit the host server's database, at which point in essence, we have cached our dynamic content? Does anyone have any pointers on the most efficient configuration for this type of system -- Akamai/CDN -- to served javascript/ajax/json generated pages that ideally already hit pre-cached json data? Any and all feedback is welcome!

  • jQuery Ajax Error Handling – How To Show Custom Error Messages

    - by schnieds
    So you want to make your error feedback nice for your users…Kind of an ironic statement isn’t it? We obviously want to avoid errors if at all possible in our applications, but when errors do occur then we want to provide some nice feedback to our users. The worst thing that can happen is to blow up a huge server exception page when something goes wrong or equally bad is not providing any feedback at all and leaving the user in the dark. Although I do not recommend displaying actual .NET Framework exception messages or stack traces to the user in most instances; they are usually not helpful to the user and can be a security concern.... • Monitoring Events in your BPEL Runtime - RSS Feeds?

    - by Ramkumar Menon
    @10g - It had been a while since I'd tried something different. so here's what I did this week!Whenever our Developers deployed processes to the BPEL runtime, or perhaps when a process gets turned off due to connectivity issues, or maybe someone retired a process, I needed to know. So here's what I did. Step 1: Downloaded Quartz libraries and went through the documentation to understand what it takes to schedule a recurring job. Step 2: Cranked out two components using Oracle JDeveloper. [Within a new Web Project] a) A simple Java Class named FeedUpdater that extends org.quartz.Job. All this class does is to connect to your BPEL Runtime [via opmn:ormi] and fetch all events that occured in the last "n" minutes. events? - If it doesn't ring a bell - its right there on the BPEL Console. If you click on "Administration > Process Log" - what you see are events.The API to retrieve the events is //get the locator reference for the domain you are interested in.Locator l = .... //Predicate to retrieve events for last "n" minutesWhereCondition wc = new WhereCondition(...) //get all those events you needed.BPELProcessEvent[] events = l.listProcessEvents(wc); After you get all these events, write out these into an RSS Feed XML structure and stream it into a file that resides either in your Apache htdocs, or wherever it can be accessed via HTTP.You can read all about RSS 2.0 here. At a high level, here is how it looks like. <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?><rss version="2.0">  <channel>    <title>Live Updates from the Development Environment</title>    <link>http://soadev.myserver.com/feeds/</link>    <description>Live Updates from the Development Environment</description>    <lastBuildDate>Fri, 19 Nov 2010 01:03:00 PST</lastBuildDate>    <language>en-us</language>    <ttl>1</ttl>    <item>      <guid>1290213724692</guid>      <title>Process compiled</title>      <link>http://soadev.myserver.com/BPELConsole/mdm_product/administration.jsp?mode=processLog&amp;processName=&amp;dn=all&amp;eventType=all&amp;eventDate=600&amp;Filter=++Filter++</link>      <pubDate>Fri Nov 19 00:00:37 PST 2010</pubDate>      <description>SendPurchaseOrderRequestService: 3.0 Time : Fri Nov 19 00:00:37                   PST 2010</description>    </item>   ...... </channel> </rss> For writing ut XML content, read through Oracle XML Parser APIs - [search around for oracle.xml.parser.v2] b) Now that my "Job" was done, my job was half done. Next, I wrote up a simple Scheduler Servlet that schedules the above "Job" class to be executed ever "n" minutes. It is very straight forward. Here is the primary section of the code.           try {        Scheduler sched = StdSchedulerFactory.getDefaultScheduler();         //get n and make a trigger that executes every "n" seconds        Trigger trigger = TriggerUtils.makeSecondlyTrigger(n);        trigger.setName("feedTrigger" + System.currentTimeMillis());        trigger.setGroup("feedGroup");                JobDetail job = new JobDetail("SOA_Feed" + System.currentTimeMillis(), "feedGroup", FeedUpdater.class);        sched.scheduleJob(job,trigger);         }catch(Exception ex) {            ex.printStackTrace();            throw new ServletException(ex.getMessage());        } Look up the Quartz API and documentation. It will make this look much simpler.   Now that both components were ready, I packaged the Application into a war file and deployed it onto my Application Server. When the servlet initialized, the "n" second schedule was set/initialized. From then on, the servlet kept populating the RSS Feed file. I just ensured that my "Job" code keeps only 30 latest events within it, so that the feed file is small and under control. [a few kbs]   Next I opened up the feed xml on my browser - It requested a subscription - and Here I was - watching new deployments/life cycle events all popping up on my browser toolbar every 5 (actually n)  minutes!   Well, you could do it on a browser/reader of your choice - or perhaps read them like you read an email on your thunderbird!.

  • Returning Value of Radio Button Jquery [migrated]

    - by Jerry Walker
    I am trying to figure out why, when I run this code, I am getting undefined for my correct answers. $(document).ready (function () { // var answers = [["Fee","Fi","Fo"], ["La","Dee","Da"]], questions = ["Fee-ing?", "La-ing?"], corAns = ["Fee", "La"]; var counter = 0; var $facts = $('#main_ .facts_div'), $question = $facts.find('.question'), $ul = $facts.find('ul'), $btn = $('.myBtn'); $btn.on('click', function() { if (counter < questions.length) { $question.text(questions[counter]); var ansstring = $.map(answers[counter], function(value) { return '<li><input type="radio" name="ans" value="0"/>' + value + '</li>'}).join(''); $ul.html(ansstring); var currentAnswers = $('input[name="ans"]:checked').map(function() { return this.val(); }).get(); var correct = 0; if (currentAnswers[counter]==corAns[counter]) { correct++; } } else { $facts.text('You are done with the quiz ' + correct); $(this).hide(); } counter++; }); // }); It is quite long and I'm sorry about that, but I don't really know how tostrip it down. I also realize this isn't the most elegant way to do this, but I just want to know why I can't seem to get my radio values. I will add the markup as well if anyone wants.

  • how to retrieve img alt text with jquery or javascript? [on hold]

    - by kate
    Which is the code with which we can retreive alternative text of image: It is a Cataloge with clothes. Dressers, Shirts, Skirts e.t.c. in front page of a site. The featured images of the categories can be changed manually from someone. I did a check and it is asking me to give alt text. I did it to some images with alt="". But to the cataloge I cannot do it. the code is below: {{ 'option_selection.js' | shopify_asset_url | script_tag }} {{ 'api.jquery.js' | shopify_asset_url | script_tag }} {% if template contains 'customers' %} {{ 'shopify_common.js' | shopify_asset_url | script_tag }} {{ 'customer_area.js' | shopify_asset_url | script_tag }} {% endif %} {% if settings.display_slideshow %}{{ 'jquery.slider.js' | asset_url | script_tag }}{% endif %} {% if settings.include_masonry %}{{ 'jquery.masonry.js' | asset_url | script_tag }}{% endif %} {% if settings.enable_product_image_zoom %}{{ 'jquery.zoom.js' | asset_url | script_tag }}{% endif %} {{ 'fancy.js' | asset_url | script_tag }} {{ 'shop.js' | asset_url | script_tag }} Shopify.money_format = '{{ shop.money_format }}'; {% if template contains "product" %} jQuery(document).ready(function($){ {% if product.variants.size 1 or product.options.size 1 %} new Shopify.OptionSelectors("product-select", { product: {{ product | json }}, onVariantSelected: selectCallback }); {% assign found_one_in_stock = false %} {% for variant in product.variants %} {% if variant.available and found_one_in_stock == false %} {% assign found_one_in_stock = true %} {% for option in product.options %} $('#product-select-option-' + {{ forloop.index0 }}).val({{ variant.options[forloop.index0] | json }}).trigger('change'); {% endfor %} {% endif %} {% endfor %} {% endif %} }); $(function() { $( "#tabs" ).tabs(); });

  • Jquery Carousel - Need A Script Hack to Customize

    - by Leah
    I hope someone can help me out here. I am coding a site for a client using the carouFredsel. I am using this because it allows for variable widths with in the slideshow as seen here: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index-old.html. My problems are as follows: to use the built in auto center script the scrolling changes the white space in between images during the transition to fit the width of the wrapper. I need a hack to keep the white space during transition the same, like this: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index.html. Also, I can't figure out how to put this snippet into my code and make it work scroll: { onAfter: function() { if ( $(this).triggerHandler( "currentPosition" ) == 0 ) { $(this).trigger( "pause" ); } } }

  • Marketing for Scheduled Online Events

    - by JT703
    Last year I started working with a team on our first major web project (We, the Pixels). I believe the idea is very solid, but it has a hard requirement for a group of people being on the site for the randomly scheduled events. We are having problems getting people to come and stay for these events. What is the proper marketing approach needed to bring people to the site for these events? We have recently done the following in an attempt to fix the problem: Added email notification of new events being created Added privileges based on rank Added text throughout the site encouraging setting up the events in the future so other users can have time see that it exists. Gotten involved in with other communities that would find the site interesting in order to promote (market) the site Advertised using Google Adwords Is there an standard marketing approach for such a case as this?

  • is it safe to use jQuery and MooTools together?

I am not trying create application using both of them, but I am in a situation where I need to modify mootool based application framework, so I am used to jquery, I don't want to waste my time learning mootools and I think jquery is better than the mootools in many contexts like number of applications, plugins etc. so questions are is it safe to use mootools and jquery in one framework? will there be cross browser issues? how robust the application will be when using both?

  • Futures/Monads vs Events

    - by c69
    So, the question is quite simple: in an application framework, when performance impact can be ignored (10-20 events per second at max), what is more maintainable and flexible to use as a preferred medium for communication between modules - Events or Futures/Promices/Monads ? Its often being said, that Events (pub/sub, mediator) allow loose-coupling and thus - more maintainable app... My experience deny this: once you have more that 20+ events - debugging becomes hard, and so is refactoring - because it is very hard to see: who, when and why uses what. Promices (i'm coding in javascript) are much uglier and dumber, than Events. But: you can clearly see connections between function calls, so application logic becomes more straight-forward. What i'm afraid. though, is that Promices will bring more hard-coupling with them... p.s: the answer does not have to be based on JS, experience from other functional languages is much welcome.

  • Does it make sense to use jQuery in modern-webkit-only web applications?

    - by futlib
    I'm lately working on a few mobile web apps for Android (2.3+) and iOS (4+). Their browsers support most of ECMAScript5, which is very powerful, and I wanted to use language features where possible, resorting to jQuery only when I had to. Turns out the only thing I use jQuery for is to have a shorter alternative for document.querySelectorAll. Might as well get rid of it. If I only have to support modern WebKit browsers, is it a good idea to get rid of jQuery (and other general-purpose libraries)? They are a layer of indirection, after all. (The apps don't have to make AJAX calls so far, I guess that's one thing that's going to get ugly. But is it worth keeping jQuery just for that?)
