  • Benefit of using Data URI to embed images within HTML document and its cross-browser compatibility

    - by Manoj Agarwal
    I want to embed an image using Data URI within HTML document so that we don't need image as a separate attachment, we get just one HTML file that contains the actual image. What are its advantages and disadvantages? Does IE10 supports it? Is it useful to have such an implementation? I am working on an application, where we have html documents that link towards images stored in some location. If I use tiny online editor, as images are saved somewhere in the server, while editing the document, i can provide a link towards that image, but can't preview the final document with images from within tiny editor. If I chose to download the file locally, then i will need to download the images from server side. It looks a bit overkill, so I thought if Data URI could be used in such a situation.

  • Multiple Document Interfaces in Visual Basic

    What is Multiple Document Interface (MDI)? In most VB.NET applications, it is using a single document interface (SDI). In this type of interface, every window is unique to aother window. But in multiple document interface, it works by having one parent window with child windows under it. See the screenshot below: As you can see, there is one parent window (in gray color) and there are 3 child windows (in blue, violet and orange color). You can have more than 3 child windows depending on your application requirements. But you can only have one parent window. Depending on the design of your MDI...

  • Why is my content database so large?

    - by PeterBrunone
    If your SharePoint site collection hasn't grown, but your content database has, the most likely culprit is versioning.  If a list -- or worse, a library -- has versioning enabled, the default is to keep every single one.  That means that every time someone edits and checks in a document, its storage footprint increases by the size of the document (and probably a little more).The solution?  It could be a bit painful, but you'll need to go back into each library and restrict the number of versions to keep (three is sufficient for most uses, but your needs may vary).  I suggest keeping only major versions as well, since minor versions are really just stopping points on the way to a published document.Of course if you have a real business need to keep all those versions around, then you'll want to look into an archiving solution that will take the old versions out of the content database but still make them available if necessary.

  • Is parsing JSON faster than parsing XML

    - by geme_hendrix
    I'm creating a sophisticated JavaScript library for working with my company's server side framework. The server side framework encodes its data to a simple XML format. There's no fancy namespacing or anything like that. Ideally I'd like to parse all of the data in the browser as JSON. However, if I do this I need to rewrite some of the server side code to also spit out JSON. This is a pain because we have public APIs that I can't easily change. What I'm really concerned about here is performance in the browser of parsing JSON versus XML. Is there really a big difference to be concerned about? Or should I exclusively go for JSON? Does anyone have any experience or benchmarks in the performance difference between the two? I realize that most modern web developers would probably opt for JSON and I can see why. However, I really am just interested in performance. If there's a proven massive difference then I'm prepared to spend the extra effort in generating JSON server side for the client.

  • Where exactly should i add crossdomain.xml file?

    - by SpikETidE
    Hi everyone... i am trying to create a internet radio.... I use icecast2 for streaming..... edcast plugin with winamp to send the music to icecast... and the xspf web music player (http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/) to connect the user to the icecast server and play the music.... The setup works great and i can broadcast and receive on the local network i use to test the radio.. using xampp... Now the icecast broadcasts online from a windows server with the ip address say xx.xx.xxx.xxx The webpage in which the flash player is embedded is uploaded to www.xyz.com/images/radio This domain has the same ip address from where the icecast server runs. Now when i run the webpage to connect to the radio with the flash player, i get the error in firebug as "xx.xx.xxx.xxx:8000/crossdomain.xml 404 NOT FOUND" But i have created a crossdomain.xml file in the root of the xx.xx.xxx.xxx server... Still it doesn't recognize the file... Can anyone tell me where exactly i should create the file for my setting...??? Thanks a lot in advance.....

  • Parse a xml attribute depending on child content

    - by eddiefernberg
    Hello! I load an external xml file containing user metas looking like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <user_information> <user url="http://usersweb.com"> <name>Arnold</name> <lastname> <name>Arnoldson</name> </lastname> <age>42</age> </user> <user url="http://anotheruserweb.com"> <name>Arnold</name> <lastname> <name>Arichson</name> </lastname> <age>42</age> </user> And so on.... </user_information> I know the formatting with <lastname> is really stupid, but i can't modify the source. I want to load in the "url"-attribute from <user> , but only if <name> and <lastname> matches the name values i have stored in my own user database. I know how to parse the rest of it with PHP, but just the matching sequence seems difficult to me. Any help appreciated!

  • Parsing XML with jQuery... problem retrieving elements

    - by Don
    An XML snippet: <results> <review> <api_detail_url>http://api.giantbomb.com/review/1/</api_detail_url> <game> <api_detail_url>http://api.giantbomb.com/game/20462/</api_detail_url> <id>20462</id> <name>SingStar</name> </game> <score>4</score> </review> </results> And here's my testing code, just to show whether data is being collected or not ('data' holds the XML): var element; $(data).find('review').each(function() { element = $(this).find('name').text(); }); alert(element); Now here's the problem, only this query actually returns data: $(this).find('score').text(); The alert box in this case would pop up with '4'. These two other queries don't return anything (the alert box is blank): $(this).find('api_detail_url').text(); $(this).find('name').text(); I've tried using jQuery selectors, like... $(this).find('game > name').text(); ...but that doesn't work, either, still get a blank alert box. Am I missing something? Testing is being done in Chrome.

  • Posting xml from classic asp to asp.net

    - by Chris Dunaway
    I apologize if this has been asked before. I searched and didn't find anything that matched my situation. Also bear in mind I am fairly new to asp/asp.net development. My current project is a relatively simple e-commerce site. The customer will connect to the site, select products, input shipping and billing information, payment information (credit card) and submit the order. The project is being split into two parts: The store front which includes displaying the items and taking the customer's shipping and billing information and the payment site which will collect the customers credit card, compute tax, and save the order into the company's system. The reason that the site was split up, was that our side (payment side) already has facilities for credit card handling and tax computation. There may also be some regulatory issues that the store front side does not want to deal with (which we already do). I'm working on the payment portion of the app and I am using asp.net. The store front side is being written in classic asp (not my decision). Each part will be hosted on different servers. The problem I am having is transferring the contents of the "shopping cart" to our app so that we can collect the cc info and submit the order. We had thought that the classic asp could somehow post an xml fragment which contains the billing/shipping info and the items selected. Our side would display a summary of the order, securely collect the credit card info, and submit the order to our system. But I have been unable to post or send the xml from a classic asp on one server, to our asp.net application on another. It all works just fine when I test on the same server. How can I post (or otherwise transfer) the shopping cart data from classic asp to asp.net across server boundaries and transfer control to the asp.net application? As I said, I am new to web development, so this is proving quite a challenge for me. Thanks

  • jquery wait till large document is loaded

    - by Martijn
    In my web application I call a document can be huge. This document is loaded into an iframe. I have a title, buttons and the text which all depends on this document. The text is from the large document and is displayed in the iframe. I'd like to show an animated gif while the document is loading on 3 places (1: document title, 2: document buttons, 3: document text, the iframe) I've tried the onload event on the Iframe, but this doesn't give the me the desired effect. Here's my code that loads the document: function loadDocument(id, doc) { $("#DocumentContent").show(); $("#ButtonBox").show(); // Clear dynamic menu items $("#DynamicMenuContent").html(""); $("#PageContent").html(""); // Load document in frame $("#iframeDocument").attr("src", 'ViewDoc.aspx?id=' + id + '&doc=' + doc + ''); // $("#iframeDocument").attr("src", "Graphics/loader.gif"); // Load menu items $.ajax({ url: "ShowButtons.aspx?id=" + id + "&doc=" + doc, success: function(data) { $("#DynamicMenuContent").html(data) }, error: function(xhr, err, e) { alert("error: " + err) } }); // Set document title $("#documentTitle").load("GetDocumentInfo.aspx?p=title"); } My questions, how can I display a loader gif while the document is loaded? And remove the gif when the document is ready?

  • Cannot install XML::LibXML module on Windows

    - by Deepak Konidena
    I am trying to use XPath to extract some HTML tags and data and for that I need to use XML::LibXML module. I tried installing it from CPAN shell but it doesn't install. I followed the instructions from CPAN site about the installation, that we need to install libxml2, iconv and zlib wrappers before installing XML::LibXML and it didn't work out. Also, if there is any other simpler module that gets my task done, please let me know. The task at hand: I am searching for a specific <dd> tag on a html page which is really big ( around 5000 - 10000) <dd> and <dt> tags. So, I am writing a script which matches the content within <dd> tag and fetches the content within the corresponding (next) <dt> tag. I wish i could i have been a little more clearer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • JAXB - Beans to XSD or XSD to beans?

    - by bajafresh4life
    I have an existing data model. I would like to express this data model in terms of XML. It looks like I have two options if I'm to use JAXB: Create an XSD that mirrors my data model, and use xjc to create binding objects. Marshalling and unmarshalling will involve creating a "mapping" class that would take my existing data objects and map them to the objects that xjc created. For example, in my data model I have a Doc class, and JAXB would create another Doc class with basically the same exact fields, and I would have to map from my Doc class to xjc's Doc class. Annotate my existing data model with JAXB annotations, and use schemagen to generate an XSD from my annotated classes. I can see advantanges and disadvantages of both approaches. It seems that most people using JAXB start with the XSD file. It makes sense that the XSD should be the gold standard truth, since it expresses the data model in a truly cross-platform way. I'm inclined to start with the XSD first, but it seems icky that I have to write and maintain a separate mapping class that shuttles data in between my world and JAXB world. Any recommendations?

  • How to add some complexe structure in multiple places in an XML file

    - by Guillaume
    I have an XML file which has many section like the one below : <Operations> <Action [some attibutes ...]> [some complexe content ...] </Action> <Action [some attibutes ...]> [some complexe content ...] </Action> </Operations> I have to add an to every . It seems that an XSLT should be a good solution to this problem : <xsl:template match="Operations/Action[last()]"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/> </xsl:copy> <Action>[some complexe content ...]</Action> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="@*|node()"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> My problem is that the content of my contains some xPath expressions. For exemple : <Action code="p_histo01"> <customScript languageCode="gel"> <gel:script xmlns:core="jelly:core" xmlns:gel="jelly:com.niku.union.gel.GELTagLibrary" xmlns:soap="jelly:com.niku.union.gel.SOAPTagLibrary" xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:sql="jelly:sql" xmlns:x="jelly:xml" xmlns:xog="http://www.niku.com/xog" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <sql:param value="${gel_stepInstanceId}"/> </gel:script> </customScript> </Action> The '${gel_stepInstanceId}' is interpreted by my XSLT but I would like it to be copied as-is. Is that posible ? How ?

  • XML generation with java, trying to copy the whole node

    - by Pawel Mysior
    I've got an xml document that filled with people (parent node is "students", and there are 25+ "student" nodes). Each student looks like this: <student> <name></name> <surname></surname> <grades> <subject name=""> <small_grades></small_grades> <final_grade></final_grade> </subject> <subject name=""> <small_grades></small_grades> <final_grade></final_grade> </subject> </grades> <average></average> </student> Basically, what I want to do ('ve been asked to do) is to make a program that would get 3 students with the best average. While parsing the document and getting three best students isn't too difficult, the XML generation is a pain in the ass. Right now, what I'm doing is getting every single node from student and recreating it to a new file. Is there a way to copy the whole student node with everything that's in it? Regards, Paul

  • .NET XML serialization

    - by ShdNx
    I would like to serialize and deserialize mixed data into XML. After some searches I found out that there were two ways of doing it: System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Soap.SoapFormatter and System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer. However, neither turned out to match my requirements, since: SoapFormatter doesn't support serialization of generic types XmlSerializer refuses to serialize types that implement IDictionary, not to mention that it's far less easy-to-use than "normal" serialization (e.g. see this SO question) I'm wondering if there exists an implementation that doesn't have these limitations? I have found attempts (for example CustomXmlSerializer and YAXLib as suggested in a related SO question), but they don't seem to work either. I was thinking about writing such serializer myself (though it certainly doesn't seem to be a very easy task), but then I find myself limited by the CLR, as I cannot create object instances of types that won't have a paramaterless constructor, even if I'm using reflection. I recall having read somewhere that implementations in System.Runtime.Serialization somehow bypass the normal object creation mechanism when deserializing objects, though I'm not sure. Any hints of how could this be done? Could somebody please point me to the right direction with this?

  • How to deserialize MXML with PHP?

    - by Ivan Petrushev
    Hello, I have an array structure that have to be converted to MXML. I know of PEAR XML_Serialize extension but it seems the output format it produces is a bit different. PHP generated XML: <zone columns="3"> <select column="1" /> <select column="4" /> </zone> MXML format: <mx:zone columns="3"> <mx:select column="1" /> <mx:select column="4" /> </mx:zone> Is that "mx:" prefix required for all the tags? If yes, can I make the XML_Serialize put it before each tag (without renaming my data structure fields to "mx:something")? Here are my options for XML_Serialize: $aOptions = array('addDecl' => true, 'indent' => " ", 'rootName' => 'template', 'scalarAsAttributes' => true, 'mode' => 'simplexml');

  • searching XML documents using php

    - by dbomb101
    I am trying to make a search function using the combination of DOM, PHP and XML. I got something up and running but the problem is that my search function will only accept exact terms, on top of this am wondering if the method I picked the most efficient $searchTerm = "Lupe"; $doc = new DOMDocument(); foreach (file('musicInformation.xml')as $node) { $xmlString .= trim($node); } $doc->loadXML($xmlString); $records = $doc->documentElement->childNodes; $records = $doc->getElementsByTagName("musicdetails"); foreach( $records as $record ) { $artistnames = $record->getElementsByTagName("artistname"); $artistname = $artistnames->item(0)->nodeValue; $recordnames = $record->getElementsByTagName("recordname"); $recordname = $recordnames->item(0)->nodeValue; $recordtypes = $record->getElementsByTagName("recrodtype"); $recordtype = $recordtypes->item(0)->nodeValue; $formats = $record->getElementsByTagName("format"); $format = $formats->item(0)->nodeValue; $prices = $record->getElementsByTagName("price"); $price = $prices->item(0)->nodeValue; if($searchTerm == $artistname|| $searchTerm == $recordname || $searchTerm == $recordtype ||$searchTerm == $format || $searchTerm == $price) { echo "$artistname - $recordname - $recordtype - $format -$price\n"; }

  • Parse XML function names and call within whole assembly

    - by Matt Clarkson
    Hello all, I have written an application that unit tests our hardware via a internet browser. I have command classes in the assembly that are a wrapper around individual web browser actions such as ticking a checkbox, selecting from a dropdown box as such: BasicConfigurationCommands EventConfigurationCommands StabilizationCommands and a set of test classes, that use the command classes to perform scripted tests: ConfigurationTests StabilizationTests These are then invoked via the GUI to run prescripted tests by our QA team. However, as the firmware is changed quite quickly between the releases it would be great if a developer could write an XML file that could invoke either the tests or the commands: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <testsuite> <StabilizationTests> <StressTest repetition="10" /> </StabilizationTests> <BasicConfigurationCommands> <SelectConfig number="2" /> <ChangeConfigProperties name="Weeeeee" timeOut="15000" delay="1000"/> <ApplyConfig /> </BasicConfigurationCommands> </testsuite> I have been looking at the System.Reflection class and have seen examples using GetMethod and then Invoke. This requires me to create the class object at compile time and I would like to do all of this at runtime. I would need to scan the whole assembly for the class name and then scan for the method within the class. This seems a large solution, so any information pointing me (and future readers of this post) towards an answer would be great! Thanks for reading, Matt

  • XML comments on delegate declared events

    - by Matt Whitfield
    I am visiting some old code, and there are quite a few events declared with delegates manually rather than using EventHandler<T>, like this: /// <summary> /// Delegate for event Added /// </summary> /// <param name="index">Index of the item</param> /// <param name="item">The item itself</param> public delegate void ItemAdded(int index, T item); /// <summary> /// Added is raised whenever an item is added to the collection /// </summary> public event ItemAdded Added; All well and good, until I come to use sandcastle to document the library, because it then can't find any XML comments for the private Added field that is generated by the event declaration. I want to try and sort that out, but what I would like to do is either: Get sandcastle to ignore the auto-generated private field without telling it to ignore all private fields entirely or Get XML comments generated for the private field Is there any way of achieving this without re-factoring the code to look like this: /// <summary> /// Delegate for event <see cref="Added"/> /// </summary> /// <param name="index">Index of the item</param> /// <param name="item">The item itself</param> public delegate void ItemAdded(int index, T item); /// <summary> /// Private storage for the event firing delegate for the <see cref="Added"/> event /// </summary> private ItemAdded _added; /// <summary> /// Added is raised whenever an item is added to the collection /// </summary> public event ItemAdded Added { add { _added += value; } remove { _added -= value; } }
