  Just a few days ago, Adobe Reader XI and Acrobat X stopped opening. When I try to open a pdf or either one of these programs the cursor would show a busy icon for a few seconds and stop. Each time I open it a process will show up in task manager, but no window will open. I have tried these things, but none will work Restarting the computer Running as Administrator Repairing the installation Reinstalling Following this guide: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html When I ran acrofix it returned exit code 3 Also I have seen this, but I am not running tune up: Adobe Reader XI will not launch I am running windows 7 ultimate x64. • Active Directory using Samba/Open LDAP for user accounts

  I know this is the wrong way round... but Is it possible to use AD in front of Samba for our PC clients, so that the user accounts are in Samba/Open LDAP. Managing our fleet of Windows PC's is becoming more and more difficult with just Samba v3 - until Samba v4 comes along, it would be great if we could leverage Active Directory, but have the accounts stored in Samba/Open LDAP. Windows PC's are a minority in our organisation & Samaba/Open LDAP are used for just about every service (Zimbra/RADIUS/Intranet/SAN/Printing/...) so it will have to remain the definitive account source. Anyway, it probably can't be done, but I thought I would ask for ideas anyway.

UPDATE: 6/3/14 Got this to work BUT only works when opening chrome for the first time open -a Google\ Chrome --args --"profile-directory"="Profile 1" So How do you get --args to be accepted AFTER google chrome as already been launched??

  Hi, In my MacOS 10.5, it has set all my *.patch files to open with 'Notepad in Windows Via parallel'. I have tried to change it by 1. click 'OpenWith..' 2. select 'TextEdit' 3. check the 'Always Open With' box But still when I get new *.patch file, it will set to open 'Nodepad in Windows' by default. Can you please tell me how can I change that for good? Thank you.

• Cannot open the device or file specified for office files

  Recently I've noticed on couple of computers that when users try to open Office files or links (to server path) to office files they get this error "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file", but the files itself open up without problems. This happened on 4 Windows XP computers already with Office 2003 installed. One one computer it was XLSX file being opened and every time user executed it, it opened up, but the error pops out. On the other hand when I open it directly from Office it works fine, without error. On another 3 computers it was after user pressed on the link to Access DB and it error out, but Access began MSI configuration (since it was first time user logged in to his computer) and in the end it opened up properly. After closing access and doing it again problem disappeared. Some faulty patch ? Eset Smart Security 4 is installed.

• Keyboard Navigation of File Open Dialog in Windows 7

  In Windows XP standard File - Open dialog, the top has a "Look In" box. I can press Alt+I to drop down a tree of the disks folders and easily navigate to other folders or network shares. In Windows 7, I can't seem to navigate the File - Open dialog as easily. The best I've been able to muster is to tab 5 times (in Excel 2007, but I assume it's a windows standard), then use arrow keys or use Alt+arrow keys like a browser to get around. It's simply not as good because I can't see the whole tree at once. Is there a way to see the whole folder tree? If not, do you have any other tips for keyboard navigation of the file open dialog in Windows 7?

  Hi all; Apologies if this has been discussed previously... I did a stack overflow and google search but probably didn't use the right keywords. Anyway, is there an easy way to determine what files are open on Mac OS X? I had an issue in which I could not unmount a firewire HD until I closed all running apps. Turns out keychain access had a reference to a file on the HD, but it begged the question: how to find out what files are open and what app (or apps) has the file open? Finding the project and opening it can take up 4-5 minutes, which is just ridiculous. I've checked the open project dialogs of other programs - only VS2005 is acting this way. What could be causing this problem and how do I go about solving it (apart from reinstalling VS2005 / windows) (Edit: Even VS2008 on the same machine does not have this problem.   Most of us with fingerprint readers and such devices probably use the software provided by the vendor, to enable biometric OS login or single sign-on functionality. However, I've recently wondered if there is any third-party software that will do the same thing? This would be similar to how you don't need the manufacturer's software to use a scanner, printer, or webcam - you just use their drivers and your choice of software. Is there anything like this for fingerprint readers or other biometric devices? Free or Open Source projects are preferred, but I'd be interested in learning about any existing solutions regardless. I personally am particularly interested in Windows-compatible software, but I'll leave the query open for any OS.

  If you're a Firefox user you know that if you have 10 tabs open and say you're in the tab #5. If you open a new tab which will become #11 in order and search something, after you finish and close this #11 tab Firefox will direct you the the last active tab you were in which is #5. Using Vimperator You won't get the similar effect. In the same scenario, while you're in tab #5 you can go t and search for something which will lead to opening a tab at #11. Now you press d and where you are now ? #10 and you need to ctrl+p all the way back to #5. So in this case I am looking for one of these solutions. to be able to open a tab straight after the current tab (which closing it will capital D will put me back to my active tab) a way to close a tab and being brought back to the last active tab that I worked on. Will appreciate it if somebody got a solution for this. thanks

Alt + Tab - Switches between different apps that are open. Ctrl + Tab - Cycles through the different tabs that are open in the current Window. What I want is something like we have in Visual Studio. Irrespective of how the documents are opened, a Ctrl + Tab always toggles between the last two files opened. Is it possible in IE 8.0?

• Command-line way to send keystrokes to a window open on a different X-session

  I have a Ubuntu desktop open and logged on, on my main machine. I am then also logging in to this machine from a remote computer, using X2go which creates a new X-session. I have a libreoffice file open on the original session. I want to save this file and close it - but from the remote machine! (Both sessions have same user logged in; I can sudo if needed) I have tried using xdotool search but this fails to find the window. Is there a way to do what I want from this second session? I can see the process with ps -A I can even see the open file with lsof! How can I do a "save-and-close" on it?

• Using search and replace to remove line breaks in Open Office

  Hi, I've imported a document into Open Office and it has a number of hard returns in wrong places. In MS Word, I could use the search and replace to simply get rid of them all easily, but Open Office's earch won't find them. I tried /n with the 'use regular expressions' box checked, but it seems that only looks for 'shift-enter' breaks and not ordinary hard returns. Is there another way to remove them all quickly, or do I have to go manually through the document and remove each one individually. This is a surprising oversight for Open Office.

  Is there any way of configuring FileZilla so that I can open all the files on a server that I use to edit with just one click. For example if the files are like this: /home/abc/def/one.txt /home/abc/def/yet/another/directory/two.txt /home/abc/def/ghi/yet/another/directory/three.txt Then it is very time-consuming to navigate through each directory and open the required files. These are only 3 files but what if we have around 10 to 20 files? Yes, copying the path of the directories is one thing. But something that is built-in so that I can just click a button like open all the required files of this connection and it opens all the files in the editor (as set in FileZilla preferences) then that would be great!

  In TotalCommander I have saved the open tabs on the left and on the right windows in a *.tab file. But I want to put the *.tab file on my desktop and doubleklick it and TC (which is not already running) should open with just those tabs. And I could have different *.tc files on my desktop then. I remember this worked before? If so how can I fix it or change a setting? (I know I can open them again from inside TotalCommander as seen in the picture but that's not what I am asking for here.)

  We're looking at replacing our campus-wide magnetic swipe card system with something more robust. The "programmer" side of me says there's got to be an open-source, scalable solution that already does this, but all I've been able to find are proprietary vendor-specific solutions. Ideally, it'd have the following: Based on some open standard that allows us to select from a wide selection of card readers (like IMAP or HTTP) Support different kinds of card access (magnetic strip, RFIDs, etc.) Future-proof (to the extent possible) The lack of information I'm finding leads me to believe I'm not searching for the right things... or such a solution doesn't exist. Is there not some basic, open-source solution to this (like MySQL for databases, or Moodle for an LMS, or Apache for a web server)?

• Eclipse: open file in external editor only temporarily

  Using Eclipse, I can open a Java source file with an external editor by right-clicking on the file name (in the Package Explorer) and selecting Open With ... - emacsclient. I'm very glad to be able to do that. However, I only want to do that sometimes, not every time. Now, when I double-click on that same file name, I always automatically get the file opened in emacsclient. This is particularly annoying when I use the Open Type dialog to find a file, because in that case it's not possible to right-click and choose the default Eclipse editor. Is there a way to make Eclipse forget that I previously opened a particular file with emacsclient, so that it can go back to the default behavior of using the regular Eclipse editor?

  I am running Mac OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion) and I am trying to open and scroll through a 42 GB .XML file. I plan on using an XML parser to parse through it and delete parts, but first I need to know how the document is structured so I can know what parts to save. How can I open this text / XML file and scroll through it so I can get a glimpse of its structure? I tried my default text-editor, text-mate, and that couldn't open it. I tried gEdit and that shows the first 10 or so lines, but then quits after trying to load the rest. I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions!

  I have launched an instance of EC2. Initially the security group I created did not have the port 80 open. I sshed and installed Apache etc, and now want to open port 80. I am using elasticfox. So I go to Security Group - [My Group name] - Grant new permission Open up the port 80(Http with TCP) for network range 0.0.0.0/0 Now my assumption is that these ports should be opened up on the instance, but the instance is not responding on the allocated IPs, public DNS entry. • Ubuntu 9.04 Cannot Connect to visible open wifi ap (reason 6)

  I'm travelling currently so the last network i connected successfully to was my home wpa-psk network. I hadn't tried anything until i got to my accommodation that is an open network (that I'm on now on the Win7 partition on my laptop). The network (and a similar archetypical 'linksys' open network, aswell as some protected local networks are correctly displayed in network-manager and upon selection, it happily spins around to its hearts content for a while before saying 'no chance boy'. /var/log/syslog spills out the usual combination of wpa_supplicant and kernel messages, the most interesting of are that the kernel deauthentication reason 6 response. 6 apparently means class2FrameFromNonAuthStation...Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated. Anyone seen anything like this? I've already tried going closer to the router to no avail. I don't remember seeing this any other time I've connected to a open AP, even if that AP is far away. (Signal strength for this AP is good, kismet says its around -57dBm, well above the threshold of -80dBm, and I've tried all the suggestions from the 'Related Questions'
