  • iPad Web App: Detect Virtual Keyboard Using JavaScript in Safari?

    I'm writing a web app for the iPad (not a regular App Store app - it's written using HTML, CSS and JavaScript). Since the keyboard fills up a huge part of the screen, it would make sense to change the app's layout to fit the remaining space when the keyboard is shown. However, I have found no way to detect when or whether the keyboard is shown. My first idea was to assume that the keyboard is visible when a text field has focus. However, when an external keyboard is attached to an iPad, the virtual keyboard does not show up when a text field receives focus. In my experiments, the keyboard also did not affect the height or scrollheight of any of the DOM elements, and I have found no proprietary events or properties which indicate whether the keyboard is visible.

  • Unable to launch onscreen keyboard (osk.exe) from a 32-bit process on Win7 x64

    90% of the time I am unable to launch osk.exe from a 32bit process on Win7 x64. Originally the code was just using: Process.Launch("osk.exe"); Which won't work on x64 because of the directory virtualization. Not a problem I thought, I'll just disable virtualization, launch the app, and enable it again, which I thought was the correct way to do things. Can anyone spot where I'm doing something wrong, or provide an alternative solution for this? It seems to work fine launching Notepad, it just won't play ball with the onscreen keyboard.

    I'm just playing around with some code. I create an Activity and simply do something like this: long lo = currentTimeMillis(); System.out.println(lo); lo *= 3; System.out.println(lo); SystemClock.setCurrentTimeMillis(lo); System.out.println( currentTimeMillis() ); Yes, in my AndroidManifest.xml, I've added: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_TIME"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_TIME_ZONE"></uses-permission> Nothing changes. The SystemClock is never reset...it just keeps on ticking. The error that I'm getting just says that the permission "SET_TIME" was not granted to the program. Protection level 3. The permissions are there...and in the API for 2.2 it says that this feature is supported now. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If android.content.Intent; comes into play, please explain. I don't really understand what the idea behind intents! Thanks for any help!

    I found out that when I press the Insert key on the client I will block the OS X VNC server by putting it in a "help mode" where you get the question mark mouse cursor. The mouse works but I cannot use the keyboard anymore. Details: Reconnecting using VNC does not help Normal keyboard is working fine on the mac The only solution in addition to relogin was to stop the VNC server on mac using: killall OSXvnc-server After few seconds it will restart by itself and it will work. I don't like current workaround and looking for something better. Tested with these versions of the VNC client and all put the VNC server in the question mark mode, requiring service restart: Ultr@VNC 1.0.8.2 RealVNC 4.1.3 I know that the problem is caused by the different/bad implementation of the VNC protocol in the server but do you need an workaround?

  • MS Office 2013 and Asian languages

    I've got a Win7 computer with Office 2013 installed. System language is German. When switching input language to Thai I can type in the system dialog boxes (like start buttno app finder), but can't type in MS Word (pressing the keys on the keyboard does nothing on the screen, the cursor doesn't move). The weirdest thing here is: if I use numeric keypad and type any number after that the keyboard starts working in Word for a few characters. Japanese and Nepal input languages work fine. Does anyone know any way to troubleshoot? Thank you!

  • Mac OS X - User home directories shared via NFS

    I've run into some problems with how I've got user home directories set up on our system here. Our server is an XServe, using Open Directory to manage the user accounts. The majority of our workstations are OS X, but there are a few running Linux (Centos 5.3), and, as time goes on, we expect the proportion of Linux workstations to increase (at some point, we expect to move the server side over to Linux too, but for now we're running with what we've already got) To ensure that the Linux and OS X workstations both see user's home directories in the same place, I shared the home directories using NFS. On the server end, the home directories are stored in: /Volumes/data/company_users This is mounted on the workstations to: /mount/company_users This work fine on the Linux workstations, but there is some weirdness under OS X. For the user who is logged in through the GUI, it all works just fine. However, if a user tries to SSH into a machine that they are not the primary user on, they often have no access to their own home directory. It looks as though OS X is trying to do something else to the user home directories mount point when you log in through the GUI.... For example, on this machine (nv001), I (hugh) am logged into the GUI. Would it be universal? Can I use it or run it on any computer. Assuming that the bios allows you to boot from USB hard drive. What other things to consider when installing an OS in an external hard drive? Is installing in the external hard drive the same as when installing in an internal hard drive? Can I also boot multiple OS? What are the things to consider when doing this? And if you have a tutorial there. Showing how to install an OS in an external hard drive. Please link.

  • Ubuntu Font Family and Mac OS X confusing font name and font

    I really like the Ubuntu Font Family, and frequently use it in my documents. At school, I want to be able to use the font family so my documents that make at home using Ubuntu show up correctly at school. However, we do not have permission to use Font View (which also allows you to install fonts), so I copied the .ttf files for the Ubuntu font into the /home/Library/Fonts directory. The fonts now show up in the list of available fonts. However, when I click on Ubuntu Light, it uses the Ubuntu font, and when I click on Ubuntu, it us the Ubuntu Light font. This is irritating because my documents that I make on my home computer show up in the opposite font at school, and documents I make at school show up in the opposite font at school. This is really irritating. My school uses Mac OSX 10.4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Juju Zookeeper & Provisioning Agent Not Deployed

    I am using juju with the openstack provider, i expected that when i bootstrap that zookeeper and provisioning agent would get deployed on the bootstrap vm in openstack. This dose not seem to be the case. the bootstrap vm gets deployed but it seems that nothing gets deployed to the VM. See logs below, I may be missing something, also how is it possible to log on the bootstrap vm. Could I manual deploy, if so what do I need to do.     I have a remote build-machine with Jenkins and I'm trying to run GUI application. In Jenkins I installed Xvnc plugin, which uses TightVNC Server, but each build has failed. Earlier, there was a problem with loading driver swrast (by libGL), currently in the log there is this line: [Error] Could not initialize GLX Remote desktop is Ubuntu 14.04 running over VirtualBox, so I installed VBoxAddons but it didn't resolve the problem.   • Correct way to drive Main Loop in Cocoa

    I'm writing a game that currently runs in both Windows and Mac OS X. My main game loop looks like this: while(running) { ProcessOSMessages(); // Using Peek/Translate message in Win32 // and nextEventMatchingMask in Cocoa GameUpdate(); GameRender(); } Thats obviously simplified a bit, but thats the gist of it. In Windows where I have full control over the application, it works great. Unfortunately Apple has their own way of doing things in Cocoa apps. When I first tried to implement my main loop in Cocoa, I couldn't figure out where to put it so I created my own NSApplication per this post. I threw my GameFrame() right in my run function and everything worked correctly. However, I don't feel like its the "right" way to do it. I would like to play nicely within Apple's ecosystem rather than trying to hack a solution that works. This article from apple describes the old way to do it, with an NSTimer, and the "new" way to do it using CVDisplayLink. I've hooked up the CVDisplayLink version, but it just feels....odd. I don't like the idea of my game being driven by the display rather than the other way around. Are my only two options to use a CVDisplayLink or overwrite my own NSApplication? Neither one of those solutions feels quite right.
