• How can I share a video file during a webinar?

  Here is the scenario: I have a number of remote employees around the globe. I want to have a video chatting session. No problem there. Halfway through, I want to shut off all camera video feeds and simulcast (synchronous) a training video to my team. How do I do this? We have tried office communicator, but the frame rate was awful and no audio. Adobe Connect had similar trouble. In both cases we were limited by the main office's small internet pipe, but it is clear that video delivered by shared desktop is not a good solution.

• When are Bold/Italic Fonts Used in Windows?

  Environment: Windows 7, MS Office 2007, OpenOffice In the Control Panel-Fonts section, there are a number of fonts available, sometimes as families. For example, the Arial family (double click on it) shows both Arial and Arial Narrow. The Arial one has a few different versions, like "Arial Bold" and "Arial Bold Italic" and "Arial Italic". The Cambria font is the similar. When, if at all, are these Bold, Italic, etc. versions of these fonts ever used? In MS Office and OpenOffice they they are not available to choose from. Any insights on if I even need to keep them on my system at all?

• Linksys router with multiple external IP's

  In an office I've got a network connection with 5 external IPs and a Linksys router (I'm not 100% percent sure of the model). I need 4 of those 5 IPs to be routed to a server, and the fifth to be shared between the other computers at the office. This can probably be done using a switch in front of the router. Connect the server and the router to the switch, and let the router handle the rest of the network. Is there a way to configure the router to route the 4 IPs to the server, and create an internal network the the other computers at the same time?

• Firewalling a Cisco ASA Split tunnel

  I have a Cisco ASA 5510 at head office, and Cisco ASA 5505 in remote offices. The remote offices are connected over a split tunnelled VPN - the ASA 5505s use "Easy VPN" Client type VPN in Network Extension Mode (NEM). I'd like to set firewall rules for the non-tunnelled traffic only. Traffic over the VPN to head office should not have any firewall rules applied. I might want to apply different firewall rules to different remote offices. All the documentation I have been able to find assumes the Client VPN is a software endpoint, and all the configuration is done at the 5510. When using a Cisco 5505 as the VPN client, is it possible to configure any firewalling at the Client end, or does it all have to come from the 5510? Are there any other issues to look out for when split-tunnelling a VPN by this method?

  I have been trying to use vim as a wordprocessor to do most of my initial drafting and then open in abiword or open office to do my final printing. Problem has been, even with :set linebreak and :set wrap, when I open it, there's a ton of line breaks. I have to go and manually remove them. What I want is to be able to write at 40 columns wrap around softly so that when I open it up in Open Office, it gets restored to whatever that column width is, preserving things like carriage return but without all those linebreaks.

  I would like to access the office machine, which has a fixed IP, and is available only in its local LAN. Let say 192.168.1.100. I have a VPN with username/password connection and I am trying to access the office machine from another location, i.e., another LAN, which has the same subnet: 192.168.1.50. I am using MacOSX 10.8. I have checked the "send all trafic over VPN connection, but I think it looks like it doesn't care and is searching in Local. I do not have admin privileges and can't request to make changes to the network settings in both LANs. Is there any way to connect to the desired remote machine?

  We have a Linksys WRT54G WiFi router in our office which was working great when we had 5-6 folks. Now on peak days we have 10-15 people, each with a computer, smartphone, etc, and an ooma VOIP device. On average 1-2 times a day I need to go hard reboot the router, and sometimes the border router (Cox-supplied device). I assume this is just because the router cant handle this many concurrent users. So my question is can these consumer routers handle this kind of load? If not, would adding more devices solve the problem, and how close proximity can I put 2 routers without having interference problems (our office area is not that big physically)?

• Load balancing with Cisco router

  I have a Cisco router with two bonded T1's which are setup as a VPN to the main office. We need more bandwidth but can't get other connections (or it's too costly), so I would like to have a dsl connection installed. This DSL connection will run over a VPN to the same main office, but it won't be bonded with the T1's - so it won't act as a single connection. Since the three circuits won't act as a single connection (basically would be two connections 2 T1's + 1 DSL) we would have to split the network in half - but I don't want to do that. Instead, would it be possible to send all HTTP/HTTPS over the DSL connection but send all mission critical data (such as voice/active directory) over the T1's? I basically want to send specific ports over DSL and everything else over the T1's without separating half of the users traffic over the DSL and the rest over the T1's.

• Regarding temperature in our server cabinet

  We have a floor standing server cabinet, which sits in the corner of our office. There is no AC in the office, and the average temperature is around 21C (70F). The server cabinet currently contains 2 tower servers, a switch and a router. It's well enough ventilated, but does get understandably warm in there. We've recently put a thermometer in there to monitor the temperature, and recently I've noticed the temperature hit 33C (91F). What I'd like to know is if this temperature is too high, and whether there is a maximum temperature we should not be exceeding?

  When I'm away from my office mac I typically login via screen-sharing or VNC from home/another mac. Lately, after using screen sharing this way, my office mac will have several problems: Command+tab and Command+` no longer work Expose and other F-key functions no longer work ctrl+space to launch Google QSB no longer works Things I have tried to remedy this: Restarting the Finder process Restarting the Dock process Disabling the screensaver Unfortunately, the screensaver still runs... A connected issue? Deleting preference files for Dock/Finder/screensaver etc. The only thing that seems to work is a restart. I usually try and avoid that. System details: Macbook pro 13" OS v10.5.8

Recently the file transfer activity between desktop (all osx based) is increased a lot so he bought a switch (no connected to the router, too far away) for transfer the file over the cable instead over the wifi. Problem: How to bind the file sharing service just to the Ethernet interface and exclude the wifi interface ? • Subdomain only accessible from one computer

  I recently added a wildcard A record to my domain (*.root.com), mapping it to a certain elastic ip on AWS. I've configured apache to redirect all references to something.root.com to root.com, except for one specific "dev" subdomain, which is hosting its own site (a Django app, specifically). The Problem: This setup works perfectly for me on my computer. But on other computers around the office, it doesn't seem to work. Specifically, trying to visit dev.root.com gives an "unable to find server" error. Pinging dev.root.com gives a "cannot resolve hostname" error. The weird thing: pinging any other subdomain of root.com does work, from all machines. I would think this was all due to DNS propagation, except all the computers are behind the same office router, so how could that be the case? Any ideas?

• Outlook 2010 Unable to See Free/Busy Information While Outlook 2007 can

  In this office, most of us are using Outlook 2007, while a few of us uses Outlook 2010. For Outlook 2007, we are able to view other people's free busy information after hacking the registry of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar and enter a new DWORD value data called 'UseLegacyFB' and set the value as 1. Once we do that, we are able to view people's free/busy information. I don't know what to do with the Outlook 2010, since hacking the registry and updating windows did not work. Help? :(

• Using a 3g usb dongle as Cisco router access point

  We have an office opening, and we aren't going to have comms into the building when management want the building to open. Our only option (I think) Is to try and hook up a 3/4g dongle to something to act as the access point, and send all the traffic via that. The model of router we use wont support the usb dongle, so we need some sort of 'bridge' My idea was to build a Linux box, plug the dongle into that and then via the Ethernet ports plug the router in. We need the Cisco router in the equation as we create VPN connections over that back to head office. My question is will this work?

  We are a small business company that is based in Sydney and opened a new office in London. Number of employees in Sydney office is 25 and in London is 6 employees. So the traffic isn't that high. Files to be transferred are Excel sheets with size of 15mb max. Both locations have MS server 2008 and Fortigate gateways. I set up a site to site vpn but it's extremely slow. Maybe this is because our upload speeds is 1Mbps only but We will increase the upload speed to 20 Mbps in both locations but I am afraid that this will not solve the problem as the 2 locations are far from each other and the upload upgrade won't solve the problem. what's the best way to go? Shall we find a provider for the VPN? or is there another technology that can be used through internet without paying extra costs? Many thanks!

  All my life I used Microsoft Office on Windows for document writing and then Libre(Open)Office on Linux. This is not a bad software, but not perfect and I have some complaints. Now on my usual desktop I have Linux. I heard from people who work a lot with documents of different type and complexity (diagrams, articles, document design, presentation) that latex is a perfect thing. I have spent two days exploring Latex and my opinion as a beginner that it is out-of-date (the concepts of Latex language). The language is not intuitive and sometimes even complex. Can somebody advise another software product for document writing?

• Word suddenly always on top, how to get rid of this?

  For one reason or another, my Word suddenly decided to stay always on top of all other windows. This is terribly annoying. The odd thing is: of three documents I have open, two are on top of everything else, and one behaves normal. I found one other mention of this behavior. I wonder whether this is a known bug and whether there's a workaround. Sometimes closing all windows helps, but later the behavior creeps back. Other Office products don't seem to show this behavior. I'm using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, 14.0.4760.1000 (64 bit).

• Microsoft InTune in a SBS2008 Environment

  I'm looking into using InTune and Office 365, mainly for the licensing benefits it brings but also because our company is moving to having more users based around the globe and I feel it will make managing the computers easier. Currently we have a SBS2008 (Premium) server running Exchange and File and Print which I need to keep for File and Print (Exchange can move to Office 365). I cant find any information on how the AD is synchronized between InTune and the SBS server (as users will still needs access control to file shares on the SBS server).   Hello, How do I go about debugging a networking problem where the office printer is shared off a Windows XP PC and is very slow from me to access? Print/changing any settings can take several minutes and applications often display "Not Responding" in this time. My machine is a Windows Vista PC.   i have acer al1702w lcd monitor in my office.. somehow i restarted the system using the reset button as the os stoped responding.. since then the 1440x900 resolution option in the display settings is not appearing.. the intel graphocs is 82945G... and as always the h/w guys at the office are of no help.. they start blurting out their theories that this the best resolution... even though i show them that the max resolution for the monitor is indeed 1440x900.. and its not that the 82945g cant handle it... as it was working before.. i installed the latest drivers for this graphics but still im not finding that option... how to force 1440x900 resolution... oh tes the os ix xp pro sp2 Thanks..

  Hello, I have some work to do in a small office. This office has two separate Internet connections. One is a kind of DSL line and connected through the Internet sharing router (DHCP). One is a leased line with public IP adresses (No DHCP). This leased line provide only 30 IP addresses and the gateway is provided by the ISP. Some workers use private IP provided by the router, some workers use manually setup public IP. There is a Windows 2008 R2 server with two NICs, connected to each lines. I want to connect/merge(?)/bridge(?) two subnet with this server so that users from the different subnet can access each other. How can I accomplish this? Something like, add gateway function to this server and public IP users change the gateway to point this server.. It it possible ? Sorry for my rambling. Thanks in advance.

  I am running Office 2007 on Windows XP-SP3. My mouse wheel works fine in other applications, meaning that it scrolls information up and down when the mouse is positioned over a given panel. It's even working fine in the other Office 2007 apps, so this is not a hardware or driver problem. It doesn't help to click on a cell to give the worksheet focus.   our office wants to build a new server to handle our data, over the last 10 years our data was stored on CDs, DVDs, HDDs but now they want all of it in one place that is attached to the network for everybody in the office to access it. the data is 20TB new data and the rest is old, the important now is to store these 20tb and gradually store the other 30tb over time. so what is the best solution to do ? we thought of getting an hp server and connect it to an external enclosure that either had tape drives or HDDs (we haven;t decided yet) or to get a NAS server and connect it to the hp server. what should we do because this is new for us ...
