  • nginx rule to capture header and append value as query string

    I have an interesting problem I need to solve in nginx: one of the sites I'm building receives inbound traffic on port 80 (and only port 80) which may have a certain header set in the request. If this header is present I need to capture the value of it and append that as a querystring parameter before doing a temporary redirect (rewrite) to a different (secure) server, while passing the paramater and any other querystring params along.     I have a server which is running a web app that self serves HTTP. I'm wanting to use IIS6 (on the same server) to provide a HTTPS layer to this web app. From what I can tell doing a reverse proxy will allow me to do this. IIRF seems like the tool to do this job. There are no domain names involved.... its all ip numbers. So I think I want :- https:<ipnumber>:5001 to send all its requests to the same server but on a different port and use HTTP ( not exposed to the net ) http:<ipnumber>:5000 but not sure how to go about it with IIRF, I'm not entirely sure how to write the rules? I think I need to make a virtual web app on 5001 using HTTPS? then add a rules file.

    I'm trying to allow a service to a set of machines via Windows Firewall. I'd like to add my home machine to the firewall but my home machine has a dynamic ip address. I use dyndns so that I have a hostname which I can always connect to. So I'm trying to see if there is a way I can use my hostname instead of an IP. Thanks Update Let me add a little more information, perhaps there are other ways to resolve my issue. The server is a web server hosted by RackSpace. I only want to allow RDP access from my work (static IP, so no problem) and home (dynamic). My home IP doesn't change too often, just often enough to annoy me. So maybe there is a better way to do this... maybe VPN?

I have to say when it comes to Apache rewrites im a noob. I can't find any tutorials on how to remove index.php and rewrite/redirect certain parts of the site to https. Any ideas, Thanks.

    AFAIK, there are 2 ways to make search engines aware of a sitemap's location: Include an absolute link to it in robots.txt Submit it to them directly. The relevant URLs are: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=SITEMAP_URL http://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?sitemap=SITEMAP_URL Where SITEMAP_URL is the absolute URL of the sitemap. Currently, I do both. Regarding (2), I have a job that runs automatically every day which submits the sitemap to Bing and Google. I don't think there's any reason to do (1) and (2), but I'm paranoid, so I do. I imagine you can avoid both (1) and (2) if you just make your sitemap accessible at a conventional URL (like robots.txt). What's the simplest and most reliable way to ensure that search engines can find your sitemap?
