  • SSRS 2008 Report Manager Error

    I have just installed SQL Server 2008 including Reporting Services on Windows Server 2003. I'm having a problem though accessing the Report Manager. When the Reporting Service is first started I can access it fine but after maybe an hour when I try and access it I get an error saying: Unable to connect to the remote server. The reporting service is still running at this point. I can connect to it through Reporting Services Configuration Manager and clicking on the Web Service URL gives a directory listing (I assume that is correct behaviour). If I stop and start the service through Reporting Services Configuration Manager then I can access Report Manager once again (although in maybe an hour I will get the same error once again). I've installed the latest SP1 service pack. I'm using the same domain account to run all the SQL services. The report server is set to use the default ReportServer virtual directory, is set to IP address All Assigned, TCP Port 80 and no SSL certificate. The report manager is set to use the default Reports virtual directory, IP address All Assigned, TCP Port 80 and no SSL certificates. In the log file I get an error: Unable to connect to remote server HTTP status code 500 An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I've searched the net but haven't been able to find a solution.

  • WCF Service instead of ASMX Web Service?

    I'm writing a SOAP Server that will act as an endpoint for an external client. The external client expects SOAP 1.1. I'll be taking embedded business objects in the SOAP messages and passing them to an internal application, getting responses back and responding with SOAP messages to the eternal client. I did the traditional ASMX based web services several years ago. Now, I've been exploring WCF Services and wondering the best approach to take. 1) Should WCF be considered a superset of ASMX web services? 2) Is there any reason to still write new web services using ASMX instead of WCF? 3) Does WCF provide better facilities for working with SOAP messages, as opposed to SOAP Extensions? 4) Can I restrict communication to SOAP 1.1 using WCF, the way I can with a web.config change in ASMX? 5) Does WCF have an easy way to log or review the requests that hit the service without resorting to something like SOAP extensions? Sorry my questions are not very specific; still trying to get handle on what I need to know... Using VS2008, Windows Server 2008. Chris

    I'm using .NET 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 to try to create a web service that can be consumed both as SOAP/XML and JSON. I read Dave Ward's Answer to the question How to return JSON from a 2.0 asmx web service (in addition to reading other articles at Encosia.com), but I can't figure out how I need to set up the code of my asmx file in order to work with JSON using jQuery. Two Questions: How do I enable JSON in my .NET 2.0 ASMX file? What's a simple jQuery call that could consume the service using JSON? Also, I notice that since I'm using .NET 2.0, I i'm not able to implement using System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService.   • C# Web Service gets stuck waiting for lock, does not return

  • Terminal Server 2008: Installing 16-bit Application (FoxPro 2.6)

    I have one physical Windows 2008 R2 server running Hyper-V. Running under Hyper-V I have a virtual Windows Server 2008 R2 server running Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services). I'm preparing my applications using the "Install Application on Remote Desktop..." control panel app. So far so good. However, I am now trying to install FoxPro 2.6 which is a 16-bit windows application. When I try to install it I receive the message: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher". Is there any way around this? I'm in the middle of a large migration to thin-clients and foxpro 2.6, while it won't be around forever, is a very integral application for our data-entry personnel. How can I get this to work? Thanks in advance!

P.S. 1.cmd is simply a batch of these commands: certutil -? | findstr /i ping set PROMPT=$P($t)$G certutil -ping certutil -pingadmin set PROMPT=$P$G EDIT1 I have succeeded to pin down the single windows API that causes the problem - DsGetDcName According to the windbg, the certutil -ping invokes it like so: PDOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO pdci; DWORD ret = ::DsGetDcName(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, DS_DIRECTORY_SERVICE_PREFERRED, &pdci); On my workstation it times out for 30 seconds and then returns error code 1355, which is ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN No domain controller is available for the specified domain or the domain does not exist. On another machine, which is accidentally a windows server 2003, it returns almost immediately with the correct domain controller name inside the returned DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO structure. Now the question is what is missing on my workstation for that API to find the correct domain controller?

  • A-2-Z web hosting on Amazon AWS

    All, I am studying web dvp, and one of my classes is project-based. We have to build a functional site that demonstrate our understanding of: HTML, CSS, Javascript, php, MySQL, And potentially Ajax or some other web component. For the project, we can use a local server using WampServer and basically build the site entirely on our laptop. If I have time, I would like to create a real site, and I thought it would be a good way to familiarize myself with Amazon's AWS services. So if I purchase a domain name, can I rely on AWS to host the site from A-to-Z? I understand I can use AWS to host content, the database, and do the background computations, if needed. What else do I need and what are the parts that AWS cannot help me with? Second, is there good documentation for a beginner to navigate AWS and learn how to use it (either on Amazon, or some 3rd party sites, or even a good book, as long as is up to date). The ideal documentation would be a tutorial on creating a web site from a-to-z on AWS, as detailed as possible. As you can guess, I have limited understanding of the IT issues. I have 0 Linux or sysadmin experience, but this is a good opportunity to change that. I hope you can help me. Thank you, JDelage PS: Please keep the answers AWS-specific.     When we try to use certificates on computers that are not part of the domain, Windows complains that The revocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline. However, if I manually open the certificate and check the CRL Distribution Point property, I see an ldap:/// URL and an http:// URL that points to externally-accessible IIS site that hosts the CRLs. Of course, the non-domain-joined client cannot access the ldap:/// URL, but it can download the CRL from the http:// link (at least in a browser). I enabled CAPI logging and I see the event that corresponds to this failed revocation check. The RevocationInfo section is: RevocationInfo [ freshnessTime] PT11H27M4S RevocationResult The revocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline. Is there a way to have non-domain-joined clients skip the ldap:/// link and only check the http:// one?   • Can a .Net 1.1 client call a .Net 2.0 web service? If so, how?

    We have finally upgraded our web services from .Net 1.1 to .Net 2.0/3.5. One of the clients that calls these web services is run as a windows service. It is probable that the server will be upgraded at customer sites and the windows service will not (at least for some time). Is it possible to massage my .Net 2.0 web services so they will correctly service the calls from the .Net 1.1 client? It doesn't happen in my test environment and I can't find any docs about it online. Thanks for your help, -colin-

Adobe's LiveCycle Data Services looks very promising, I have found numerous tutorials/videos that shows how fast an application can be build by having methods/functions auto-generated. What are the best-practices, is it good/bad to use those auto-generated methods, they can really save a lot of time.   • Team Foundation Error: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized

    Hello everybody. I'm trying to connect to the Team Foundation Server's ClientService.asmx web services. Over here, the TFS has webservices for retrieving work items, queries, metadata and more...a quite complete and useful set of information to get. My problem is that trying to access these services leads to an error: TF51313: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized I assume it has something to do with the RequestHeader Id structure. I give it a GUID inside the code I'm working on, but I don't know how correct it is...or what value it should have to begin with. Note: I can't use the TFS API/SDK because I am building a mobile application. Also an application on the TFS server side to communicate with the API and expose web services is not an option. Thanks.

    Is it possible to stop all started services when the user hits the Home Button? I use: startService(new Intent(ClassName.this, ClassName2.class)); stopService(new Intent(ClassName.this, ClassName2.class)); This means I will have to somehow add the 'stopService()' for 7+ of my app classes I've researched this topic and I think there's 'onTerminate' but still not sure how this should be implemented.
