• Django Forms, Foreign Key and Initial return all associated values

  I a working with Django forms. The issue I have is that Foreign Key fields and those using initial take all associated entries (all records associated with that record other then the one entry i wanted e.g instead of getting a primary key, i get the primary key, post subject, post body and all other values attributed with that record). The form and the other associated queries still work well, but this behaviour is clogging my database. How do i get the specific field i want instead of all records. An example of my models is here: A form field for childParentId returns postID, postSubject and postBody instead of postID alone. • How to refactor large projects in visual studio

  I always run into a problem where my projects in Visual Studio (2008) become huge monstrosities and everything is generally thrown into a Web Application project. I know from checking out some open source stuff that they tend to have multiple projects within a solution, each with their own responsibilities. Does anyone have any advice for how to refactor this out? What should be in a separate project vs. part of the web project? Can you point me to any reference materials on the subject, or is it just something you become accustomed to with time?

  I have a C# windows service which listens to a MSMQ and sends each message out as an email. Since there's no UI, I'd like to offer an ability to monitor this service to see things such as # messages in queue, # emails sent (by message type perhaps), # of errors, etc. What is the best/recommended way to accomplish this? Is it WMI or performance counters? Is this data viewed using PerfMon or WMI CIM Studio? Does any approach allow one to monitor the service real-time as well as providing historical analysis? I can dig into the details myself but would appreciate some broad guidance to help demystify this subject.

• Export JPG out of Dicom File With mDCM

  Hello, I'm using mDCM with C# to view dicom tags, but I'm trying to convert the pixel data to a Bitmap and eventually out to a JPG file. I have read all of the posts on the mDCM Google Group on the subject and all of the code examples either don't work or are missing important lines of code. The image I am working with is a 16 bit monochrome1. I have tried using LockBits, SetPixel, and unsafe code in order to convert the pixel data to a Bitmap but all attempts fail. Does anyone have any code that could make this work. Thanks in advance P.S. Before anyone suggests trying something else like ClearCanvas, know that mDCM is the only library that suits my needs and ClearCanvas is WAY too bloated for what I need to do.

• Math problem: Determine the corner radius of an inner border based on outer corner radius/thickness

  Here's a math/geometry problem for the math whizzes (not my strongest subject). This is for WPF, but should be general enough to solve regardless: I have two embedded Border elements, with the outer one having a certain corner radius, R and border thickness, T. Given these two values, what should the corner radius of the inner Border, R' be set to such that the two corner edges meet with no overlap or holes? So far I've just been eyeballing it, but if someone can give me a proper formula that would be great. Respect points if you can!! ;)

  Hi folks, I'm trying to develop an image focusing algorithm for some test automation work. I've chosen to use AForge.net, since it seems like a nice mature .net friendly system. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find information on building autofocus algorithms from scratch, so I've given it my best try: take image. apply sobel edge detection filter, which generates a greyscale edge outline. generate a histogram and save the standard dev. move camera one step closer to subject and take another picture. if the standard dev is smaller than previous one, we're getting more in focus. otherwise, we've past the optimal distance to be taking pictures. is there a better way? update: HUGE flaw in this, by the way. as I get past the optimal focus point, my "image in focus" value continues growing. you'd expect a parabolic-ish function looking at distance/focus-value, but in reality you get something that's more logarithmic

  I'm bit vague about how to start using the shiro plugin, after reading few documents. I decided against Nimble, as it comes with few tables and UI plugins. I setup shiro plugin with wildcard realm, with my own tables. I may use permission based (rather tan role based) access control as it scales well. Now, the steps for it. assign the permission string to the subject, and save it in the db check the permission through isPermitted, hasPermission (or relevant tags in GSP). Now, 1. when to use the accesscontrol through filter? 2. is there a closure injected into the controller where I can define the permission for the actions in it? 3. Edit: Ok seems what I want to do is not possible /easily/, however what I really want to do is: Say I have a lat and long of a way point and a lat and long of a user is there an easy way to compare them to decide when to tell the user they are within a /reasonably/ close distance of the way point?   I am running ruby 1.9.1p243 (2009-07-16 revision 24175) [x86_64-linux]. require 'mail' options = { :address => "smtp.gmail.com", :port => 587, :domain => 'REMOVED', :user_name => 'REMOVED', :password => 'REMOVED', :authentication => 'plain', :enable_starttls_auto => true } Mail.defaults do delivery_method :smtp, options end Mail.deliver do to 'REMOVED' from 'REMOVED' subject 'Testing' body 'Test body' end results in the error Net::SMTPAuthenticationError: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. x.REMOVED! What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

• Setting DataContext in a Listbox Declaratively

  Hi, I am a newbie in this Silverlight Databinding subject. I am starting to understand how cool is this declaratively way of data binding. To try it out, I have this listbox in my Page.xaml: <ListBox Height="100" Name="lbCategories" Width="236" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="20,0,0,0" SelectionMode="Multiple" ItemsSource="{Binding Categories}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" /> In my Page.xaml.cs I have a public property called Categories of the type ObservableCollection. It works if this following line is present in my CS file: DataContext = this; But I want to avoid any programatically databinding. I would like to set the DataContext to "this" in my ListBox element declarativelly. Is there any way of doing that? Thanks, Oscar
