• VS 2010 debugger not loading symbols when attaching to NUnit

  (I just posted this in the NUnit discussion group on groups.google.com) Under VS 2008, I would run my tests under NUnit, and, if I needed to debug, I would attach the VS2008 debugger to the running Nunit process (Debug - Attach to Process), and set any breakpoints on code I wanted to examine. When I hit the Run buttion in NUnit, it would hit the breakpoint. (BTW, if it matters, this was running NUnit 2.5.2). I just upgraded to NUnit 2.5.4 and VS 2010. When I set a breakpoint, then attach to NUnit, I get a little warning symbol on the breakpoint dot, and hovering over it gives the tooltip "Breakpoint will not be hit. No symbols are currently loaded". Going to the Debug - Windows - Modules window shows a whole bunch of Windows and NUnit modules loaded, with the Symbol Status of "Skipped loading symbols", and then 1 module with a funny name that changes each time (r1euhmh5 right now), and Symbol Status of "No symbols loaded". (There is no trace of a module with a name remotely like my DLL under test). Right clicking the funny filename (assuming that to be some mapping from my DLL under test), and clicking Load Symbols From - Symbol Path, and navigating to the bin\debug folder, then clicking the pdb file of my DLL under test, I get the message "A matching symbol was not found in this folder". (The top of the Open dialog box has a line that says "Original location: r1euhmh5.pdb") So what's changed? And how do I go about debugging/breakpointing under VS 2010/NUnit 2.5.4 (Or is it possible I screwed something up when I decided to go through my VS2010 options and set some of them to more advanced levels than I knew what I was doing?) I appreciate any help.

• C++: Retriving values of static const variables at a constructor of a static variable

  I understand that the code below would result segmentation fault because at the cstr of A, B::SYMBOL was not initialized yet. But why? In reality, A is an object that serves as a map that maps the SYMBOLs of classes like B to their respective IDs. C holds this map(A) static-ly such that it can provide the mapping as a class function. The primary function of A is to serve as a map for C that initializes itself at startup. How should I be able to do that without segmentation fault, provided that I can still use B::ID and B::SYMBOL in the code (no #define pls)? Thanks! • windbg and symbols

  When I set a breakpoint on one of the methods that appears on top of the stack (!CLRStack), I get lots of these messages for every DLL that the debuggee is referencing including the .NET Framework ones. ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded Further digging into this shows that windbg is not loading every .pdb file that I make available in the symbols path. I've double-checked my symbol's path and it looks OK, but the following commands clearly show that not all PDBs are loaded correctly! 0:000 !sym noisy noisy mode - symbol prompts on 0:000 .reload Reloading current modules ................................................................   One long term project I have is working through all the exercises of SICP. I noticed something a bit odd with the most recent exercise. I am testing a Huffman encoding tree. When I execute the following code in DrScheme I get the expected result: (a d a b b c a) However, if I execute this same code in mzscheme by calling (load "2.67.scm") or by running mzscheme -f 2.67.scm, it reports: symbols: expected symbols as arguments, given: (leaf D 1) My question is: why? Is it because mzscheme and drscheme use different rules for loading program definitions? • Implementing ZBar QR Code Reader in UIView

  I really need help here. I'm pretty new to iOS/Objective-C so sorry if the problem resolution is obvious or if my code is terrible. Be easy on me!! :-) I'm struggling to integrate ZBarSDK for reading QR Codes into an iPad app i'm building. If I use ZBarReaderController (of which there are plenty of tutorials and guides on implementing), it works fine. However I want to make the camera come up in a UIView as opposed to the fullscreen camera. Now I have gotten as far as making the camera view (readerView) come up in the UIView (ZBarReaderView) as expected, but I get an error when it scans a code. The error does not come up until a code is scanned making me believe this is either delegate related or something else. There is a custon class definition for this symbol. It is a flipping card in a memory game. I access the textfield by going to frame 2 (gotoAndStop(2)) and setting the textfield's text property ( this.field.text = "hello" ). However if I go to frame 1 and then return to frame 2, the text becomes the original one in the library's symbol. I have to modify the text propery again in a showFace method I've written. Besides, I cannot pass parameters in the constructor because it is a symbol in the library and that would give errors. I find this behaviour of flash extremely weird. Is there a way I can set properties inside frames permanently? Thank you

• JFLAP Turing Machine shortcut problem

  In JFLAP (http://jflap.org), there are some shortcuts for Turing machine transitions. One of these shortcuts allows you to transition as long as the current tape symbol isn't the indicated symbol. For example, the transition !g,x;R basically says "Take this transition if the current tape symbol is not g". So far, so good. But the transition I want is !?,~;R which basically says "Move right as long as the current symbol is not the end-of-string (empty cell) symbol". The problem is I cannot figure out how to type in "!?". The JFLAP online documentation (http://www.jflap.org/tutorial/turing/one/index.html#syntax) has this to say: The first shortcut is that there exists the option of using the “!” character to convey the meaning of “any character but this character.” For example, concerning the transition (!a; x, R), if the head encounters any character but an “a”, it will replace the character with an “x” and move right. To write the expression “!?”, just type a “1” in when inputting a command. My question is...how do I actually do what that last sentence is trying to explain to me? Thanks for your help! Robert

  I have a variable called "account_type" passed from a rails form and need to access the value in the corresponding model. I can check if :account_type exists as a symbol, but where does the stored data come into play? Is there something I need to do in the controller? This code gives an undefined method 'account_type' error. validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if account_type == 2 If I use a symbol then it doesn't give an error, but a symbol will never equal 2 validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if :account_type == 2 It's confusing that you can validate the format of a symbol (like :name above) when :name only seems to be a reference with nothing stored in it. • xcode collect2: ld returned 1 exit status - how to resolve?

  From what I have read this is supposed to be when the linker (not exactly sure how that works) can't find a symbol. the symbol in question is: SCNetworkReachabilityCreateWithAddress as can be seen from the full error message below. the thing is that the correct framework is added to my target. xcode recognises the symbol OK, i.e. there is no error message in the .m file. the .m file is added to the correct target so I'm not at all sure what to do.   Hi, Because of a strange C++ warning about the visibility of some symbols and an interesting answer, linking to a paper which describes the different visibility types and cases (section 2.2.4 is about C++ classes), I started to wonder if it is needed for a standalone application to export symbols at all (except main - or is that needed?). Why exactly are they needed to be exported in standalone applications? Is "an exported symbol" an synomym for "visible symbol"? I.e. a hidden symbol is a symbol which is not exported? Do the object files already differ between visible symbols and hidden symbols? Or is this made at the linking step, so that only the visible symbols are exported? Does the visibility of symbols matter in case for debug information? Or is that completely independent, i.e. I would also get a nice backtrace if I have all symbols hidden? How is STABS/DWARF related to the visibility of symbols?

  Hello....I have a report with 12 Tablixes on it. The user can pcik and choose which one of these Tables and their associated data shows when the Report is generated. However, when chosing a subset of the 12 tables, the report shows blank space where I hide the non-selected tablse. Is there any way to make the report resize/fit the size of the selected tables...truncating the white space where the invisible tables are? Thanks

I've implemented support for If statements like so in my parser file: stmt = skip +++ ifstmt +++ assignment +++ whilestmt ifstmt = symbol "if" >> parens expr >>= \c -> stmt >>= \t -> symbol "else" >> stmt >>= \e -> return $ If c t e whilestmt = symbol "while" >> parens expr >>= \c -> symbol "\n" >> symbol "{" >> stmt >>= \t -> symbol "}" >> return $ While c t expr = composite +++ atomic And in the Syntax file: class PP a where pp :: Int -> a -> String instance PP Stmt where pp ind (If c t e) = indent ind ++ "if (" ++ show c ++ ") \n" ++ pp (ind + 2) t ++ indent ind ++ "else\n" ++ pp (ind + 2) e pp ind (While c t) = indent ind ++ "while (" ++ show c ++") \n" ++ "{" ++ pp (ind + 2) t ++ "}" ++ indent ind Something is wrong with the while statement, and I don't understand what. The logic seems correct, but when I run the code I get the following error: EDIT: Fixed the first problem based on the first reply, now it is not recognizing my while statment which I assume comes from this: exec :: Env -> Stmt -> Env exec env (If c t e) = exec env ( if eval env c == BoolLit True then t else e ) exec env (While c t) = exec env ( if eval env c == BoolLit True then t ) The file being read from looks like this: x = 1; c = 0; if (x < 2) c = c + 1; else ; -- SEPARATE FILES FOR EACH x = 1; c = 1; while (x < 10) { c = c * x; x = x + 1; } c I've tried to understand the error report but nothing I've tried solves the problem.

• Why does this python code work?

  I have written a simple python module, it has this code: _log = logging.getLogger("mymodule") _started = False def set_log_level(level): _log.setLevel(level) if not _started: _hdlr = logging.FileHandler('mymodule.log') When I call set_log_level() program fails because symbol _started is not found. It is normal because global _started is missing in the method. But my question is: symbol _log has the same visibility as _started, so why does this symbol can be found? BR, // Toby
