• After update hook not being called for DataMapper model with dm 1.0.2

  Hi, I want to code sth. that basically works like TiVo. Switch it on, you only see the menu or an output, so no underlying OS or anything else is directly visible to the user. So I want to use Linux as base. Can you suggest a good base distribution? Can I code a frontend without having a window-manager up and running? If yes, is that possible with java-gnome or what language/gui-framework combination would you suggest? If no, what's the minimal window manager that can handle fancy menus, etc? What does it take to create video-overlays over a HD-stream? Are there some libraries I should take a look at? Thanks

• No more internet connection after update in 14.04 with Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260

  My Dell XPS 15 (haswell) was working fine until I stupidly accepted recently to apply Ubuntu updates. Since then, my wifi does not work (it shows "device not managed" when clicking wifi icon in toolbar). Even USB to Ethernet adapter does not seem to work. Bluetooth at least "sees" other bluetooth devices around...   There is a new update for jtreg 4.1, b04, available. The primary changes have been to support faster and more reliable test runs, especially for tests in the jdk/ repository. [ For users inside Oracle, there is preliminary direct support for gathering code coverage data using jcov while running tests, and for generating a coverage report when all the tests have been run. ] -- jtreg can be downloaded from the OpenJDK jtreg page: http://openjdk.java.net/jtreg/. Scratch directories On platforms like Windows, if a test leaves a file open when the test is over, that can cause a problem for downstream tests, because the scratch directory cannot be emptied beforehand. This is addressed in agentvm mode by discarding any agents using that scratch directory and starting new agents using a new empty scratch directory. Successive directives use suffices _1, _2, etc. If you see such directories appearing in the work directory, that is an indication that files were left open in the preceding directory in the series. Locking support Some tests use shared system resources such as fixed port numbers. This causes a problem when running tests concurrently. So, you can now mark a directory such that all the tests within all such directories will be run sequentially, even if you use -concurrency:N on the command line to run the rest of the tests in parallel. This is seen as a short term solution: it is recommended that tests not use shared system resources whenever possible. If you are running multiple instances of jtreg on the same machine at the same time, you can use a new option -lock:file to specify a file to be used for file locking; otherwise, the locking will just be within the JVM used to run jtreg. "autovm mode" By default, if no options to the contrary are given on the command line, tests will be run in othervm mode. Now, a test suite can be marked so that the default execution mode is "agentvm" mode. In conjunction with this, you can now mark a directory such that all the tests within that directory will be run in "othervm" mode. Conceptually, this is equivalent to putting /othervm on every appropriate action on every test in that directory and any subdirectories. This is seen as a short term solution: it is recommended tests be adapted to use agentvm mode, or use "@run main/othervm" explicitly. Info in test result files The user name and jtreg version info are now stored in the properties near the beginning of the .jtr file. Build The makefiles used to build and test jtreg have been reorganized and simplified. jtreg is now using JT Harness version 4.4. Other jtreg provides access to GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID when set. jtreg ensures that shell tests are given an absolute path for the JDK under test. jtreg now honors the "first sentence rule" for the description given by @summary. jtreg saves the default locale before executing a test in samevm or agentvm mode, and restores it afterwards. Bug fixes jtreg tried to execute a test even if the compilation failed in agentvm mode because of a JVM crash. jtreg did not correctly handle the -compilejdk option. • Pluscom MAC address shows up but "wireless unavailable"

  I've got a pluscom pci card plugged into my desktop and although the mac address shows up in network manager, it says "Wireless unavailable".   I just installed ubuntu 12.04.1 alternative install (for raid 0 on some disks). I Have some problems with the net. I'm at school, we use cable, and it got IPv6. • Kubuntu 12.04 - DNS Issues

  Starting yesterday (6/11/12), I've been having many network problems. When requesting a page in chrome, the page hangs on "Sending request" and then will eventually timeout. I'm within a VPN that has it's own DNS server. I've tried to manually set my DNS through the Network-Manager applet and by editing /etc/network/interfaces. Having no luck I unlinked the resolv.conf file and dumped the contents of my old resolv.conf into it. A few minutes later it will work again. I'm unable to hit internal or external sites when it is timing out. When I $dig local sites, I receive no answer. I do receive an answer from google.com. At this point, I would usually blame the DNS Server, especially since when I change to Google's DNS server things work. But, I need to use our internal DNS to hit our internal sites. Nobody else is having issues and they are all using DHCP. This group includes one user who is using 11.04. At this point, I'm at a loss for what to do, so any help would be appreciated.

• Ubuntu 12.04 suddenly will not boot after compiz crash on lockscreen

  Yesterday i went to work and closed my laptop. When i got home I couldn't get the lock screen to come back up. ctrl+alt+f2 to get to a terminal and Tried to kill compiz, compiz was not running so I tried to restart it got an error opening the display so i tried to restart lightdm again couldn't open display. so I restarted and now I am stuck on the loading screen. I tried booting in recovery mode and all options hang except root, but i'm stuck with read only. booting from a live cd I can mount the drive but again stuck with read only. I'm completely stuck here. checking my default-display-manager returns "/usr/sbin/elsa" as the only line and can't edit it. I've got an 11.10 live cd and my /home is encrypted so i can't try to back anything up at the moment either. How can i resolve this or at the least back up some of my data? Please help!

• Why does Ubuntu keep trying to connect to a WiFi network while plugged into an ethernet

  My desk is situated at the edge of the range of a wireless signal which I use occasionally (when away from my desk) and is therefore saved in network manager. At my desk, however, I plug into the ethernet cable. While I'm working the computer is constantly trying to join the wireless network and usually failing this results in two annoying behaviors. 1: In gnome shell the network connect and disconnect notices keep popping up at the bottom of the screen and I have to click them to make them disappear (I assume it's been fixed in the next version of gnome). 2: (the worst!) Occasionally the wifi password dialog will pop up and ask for the password to this network (which is already saved). An additionally annoyance is that in gnome shell I'll get two copies of the dialog that I have to cancel, one is gnome shell themed (no window border etc...) and the other is just normal gnome themed. (Sometimes if I've been away from the computer for a while I will have multiple copies of this dialog up as its been trying to connect for a while resulting in at times 20 dialogs to cancel). Note, all the while I've been happily connected to the ethernet and have full network access. This is incredibly annoying and distracting, why doesn't ubuntu stop trying to connect to wifi if I'm on the ethernet (unless I want to broadcast my own network, but that's different)?

• Xmonad Xsession

  My user level: noob-ish, so please bear with me I'm running 12.04 LTS. I have installed and, to some extent, configured xmonad 0.10 The "automagically" created xsession for it works fine as it is, but when I login it won't run a startup script I've created and "call from" /usr/share/xsessions/xmonad.desktop, if that's right. I've read pretty much all I could find about .xinitrc and .xsession, I tried that and it somehow messed up the other "sessions", if I'm explaining myself correctly. Had to $unity --reset to have the "main session" working again. Anyway, my question is, how do I autostart xmobar and set a desktop background after login into xmonad's default Xsession? I tried this script, start-xmonad: #!/bin/bash # #I only used one of the following each time I tried, none worked #Also, do I really need the '&'? I know what they're for, but... nitrogen --restore & feh --bg-scale ~/Pictures/picture.png & #Then I want xmobar to start, again do I need the '&'? I know it's for it to run #in the background, but I tried removing the '&' and xmonad still launched xmobar & #Finally, the only thing that seems to work in this script exec xmonad Yes, I made sure I did chomd +x ~/start-xmonad The xmonad.desktop is [Desktop Entry] Name=XMonad Encoding=UTF-8 Comment=Lightweight tiling window manager Exec=/home/myusername/start-xmonad Icon=custom_xmonad_badge.png Type=XSession So, this didn't work, now I'm here. • IPv6 tunnels - any easy way to turn them on and off?

  I've set up a tunnelbroker.net (Hurricane Electric) IPv6 tunnel from my laptop running 12.04. Works fine, and allows me to test the dual-stack configuration on my remote webservers etc. until native IPv6 is available on my ISP. However, there are times when I don't want the tunnel. For example if I'm accessing something that requires an IPv4 address in my own country rather than the Tunnelbroker tunnel endpoint, or if I'm away from the local IPv4 tunnel endpoint, or if I simply want to test without IPv6. Is there a simple way to disable and then re-enable the IPv6 tunnel, without rebooting? For context, here's what's in my /etc/network/interfaces (NNN replaces numbers): auto he-ipv6 iface he-ipv6 inet6 v4tunnel endpoint 216.218.NNN.NNN address 2001:470:NNN:NNN::2 netmask 64 up ip -6 route add default dev he-ipv6 down ip -6 route del default dev he-ipv6 Is there a network manager application (gui or command line) to selectively enable/disable parts of /etc/network/interfaces, or IPv6 in general? I found even by commenting out that out (and reloading networking) it's tough to get the IPv6 to go away. A "tunnel on/off" button in networking would be great, like using a VPN.

• Does Windows 7 Authenticate Cached Credentials on Startup

  Problem I have a Windows domain user account that gets automatically locked-out semi-regularly. Troubleshooting Thus Far The only rule on the domain that should automatically lock an account is too many failed login attempts. I do not think anyone nefarious is trying to access my account. The problem started occurring after changing my password so I think it's a stored credential problem. Further to that, in the Event Viewer's System log I found Warnings from Security-Kerberos that says: The password stored in Credential Manager is invalid. This might be caused by the user changing the password from this computer or a different computer. To resolve this error, open Credential Manager in Control Panel, and reenter the password for the credential mydomain\myuser. I checked the Credential Manager and all it has are a few TERMSRV/servername credentials stored by Remote Desktop. I know which stored credential was incorrect, but it was stored for Remote Desktop access to a specific machine and was not being used (at least not by me) at the time of the warnings. The Security-Kerberos warning appears when the system was starting up (after a Windows Update reboot) and also appeared earlier this morning when nobody was logged into the machine. Clarification after SnOrfus answer: There was 1 set of invalid credentials that was stored for a terminal server. The rest of the credentials are known to be valid (used often & recently without issues). I logged on to the domain this morning without issue. I then ran windows update which rebooted the computer. After the restart, I couldn't log in (due to account being locked out). After unlocking & logging on to the domain, I checked Event Viewer which showed a problem with credentials after restarting. Since the only stored credentials (according to Credential Manager) are for terminal servers, why would there be a Credential problem on restart when remote desktop was not being used? Question Does anyone know if Windows 7 "randomly" checks the authentication of cached credentials?

  I have downloaded the OpenDNS client and it was working great till today. Shows me this error: dynamic IP update failed with message !yours or "Your IP address is taken by another user." I am pretty sure i'll get away with the problem by just restarting my connection as i'll be assigned a new dynamic ip. But I wonder how this is happening in the first place. Shouldn't Dynamic IP be unique for everyone?
