• DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

  I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time? No - Crash Yes - Works, but in Display tab: DirectDraw Acceleration: Disabled Direct3D Acceleration: Not Available AGP Texture Acceleration: Not Available If I click "Run 64-bit DxDiag", all three are "Enabled". I should also note that I've tried the following steps as Microsoft suggests, but I'm not able to do so as the "Change Settings" button is disabled. Some programs run very slowly—or not at all—unless Microsoft DirectDraw or Direct3D hardware acceleration is turned on. To determine this, click the Display tab, and then under DirectX Features, check to see whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration appear as Enabled. If not, try turning on hardware acceleration. Click to open Screen Resolution. Click Advanced settings. Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to Full. • Gradle + Robolectric: Where do I put the file org.robolectric.Config.properties?

  I'm trying to setup a test using Robolectric to click on a menu button in this repository. Basic Robolectric tests will run, but I'm not able to run any project-specific test using resources because it says it can't find my AndroidManifest.xml. After running ../gradlew clean check, here's the standard output from the Robolectric html file: WARNING: No manifest file found at ./AndroidManifest.xml.Falling back to the Android OS resources only. To remove this warning, annotate your test class with @Config(manifest=Config.NONE). I found these instructions which indicate I should create an org.robolectric.Config.properties file, but I'm not sure where to put it. I've tried everywhere, pretty much, and despite moving the file, the path in the error message is always the same as above (./AndroidManifest.xml). This makes me think the build process has never picked up the settings in the file org.robolectric.Config.properties. I also tried the @Config(manifest="") directive but this gave me a cannot find symbol error. If I move the AndroidManifest.xml into my project directory, then I get an error about it not being able to find the path ./res/values and I wasn't able to resolve that either. Any ideas? Update 1 Thanks Eugen, I'm now using @RunWith(RobolectricGradleTestRunner.class) instead of @RunWith(RobolectricTestRunner). • Python script is exiting with no output and I have no idea why

  I'm attempting to debug a Subversion post-commit hook that calls some python scripts. What I've been able to determine so far is that when I run post-commit.bat manually (I've created a wrapper for it to make it easier) everything succeeds, but when SVN runs it one particular step doesn't work. We're using CollabNet SVNServe, which I know from the documentation removes all environment variables. This had caused some problems earlier, but shouldn't be an issue now. Before Subversion calls a hook script, it removes all variables - including $PATH on Unix, and %PATH% on Windows - from the environment. Therefore, your script can only run another program if you spell out that program's absolute name. The body of get_login is in a try block because I was getting strange errors saying there was an unhandled exception in callback_get_login. Never figured out why, but it seems fine now. Let sleeping dogs lie, right? The username and password for get_login are currently hard-coded (but correct) just to eliminate variables and try to change as little as possible at once. (I added the svnuser and svnpass arguments to the existing argument parsing.) So that's where I am. I can't figure out why on earth it's not printing anything into svn2ftp.out.log.   I've setup AWStats on my VPS to get some more insight into the traffic coming to my site. • Windows telling me, the local security authority is internally inconsistent upon mounting a network drive

  Since ages I've mounted a network share (via samba to a Linux machine) in Windows 7 to access it via drive letter. This worked flawlessly so far. Until now. Suddenly I couldn't access the drive anymore. Windows was telling me the network name (I didn't remember the exact term) was already in use. So I disconnected and tried to connect again: net use Y: \\10.10.10.208\work After a long time I get a message saying "The Local Security Authority (LSA) database contains an internal inconsistency" A restart didn't help. The mapped share is accessible (works on other machines in the same network), so obviously something strange is going on on my machine. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this inconsistency? Update: All machines that have saved the login information refuse with this error. So it must be something with the authorization. When I use net use Y: \\10.10.10.208\work /user:raphael it prompts me for the password and then returns that error message.

• Problems with cross forest authentication in SQL Reporting

  We're currently running an SQL 2008 R2 Cluster with Reporting Services running, all for use with System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 (RU3). Our users are on a different domains to the SCOM and SQL servers (we have two domains as we are in the process of a domain migration) We have no problems at all with users accessing reports via the SCOM Console or the Web interface if they are on the new domain which runs at 2008 R2 functional level. However users on the old domain (which runs at a 2003 functional level) cannot access reports on SCOM or via the web interface (http://sqlserver/reports) The error we get is: An error occurred when invoking the authorization extension. (rsAuthorizationExtensionError) For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors Taking the errors advise we logged on to the SQL server as a user on the old domain (which works fine!) and then try to authenticate with the reporting via the web interface which produces this most useful of errors: An error occurred when invoking the authorization extension. (rsAuthorizationExtensionError) The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason. Things we've tried: Recreating the trust between domains Ensuring the SQL Reporting service account was a member of Windows Authorization Access Group on the 2003 domain Added users on the 2003 domain explicitly to the Reporting Users group on the SQL Server Has anyone come across this issue before perhaps in a different scenario? • Powerpoint missing from DCOM config

  I have an application that automates the creation of powerpoint files in an ASP.NET environment. This requires that I install powerpoint on the server and also set permissions in the DCOM configuration snap-in (dcomcnfg) to give permissions to the launching user ([DOMAIN]\ASPNET in this case) to run the application. I have this setup running successfully on several Win2k3 machines. I am configuring my first Win2k8 machine and after installing powerpoint on the server, the "Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation" node in DCOM config is not showing up. Other installed Office apps are showing (Excel, Graph, etc...), just not Powerpoint. So when I attempt to run the application, I get an "Access denied" error, which is exactly what I would expect. The user doesn't have permission. Therefore, access denied. The specific error log entry is: The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {91493441-5A91-11CF-8700-00AA0060263B} to the user [DOMAIN]\ASPNET I searched the entire list for the CLSID, too, thinking maybe the name wasn't loading properly. No dice. I also re-ran the setup program for Office thinking maybe there would be some option or something I unchecked in the custom setup options, but I saw nothing that looked helpful. I'm flummoxed. Can anyone out there suggest something to help me get Powerpoint to show up in the list of DCOM applications? Many thanks.

• Diagnosing permission problems with Cobian Backup to network share

  I'm running the latest Cobian 11. I have a Synology DS412 NAS. All of my machines (Mac and Windows) access this just fine when I'm logged in and I browse to it manually. I have Cobian installed as a service on two Windows machines: WinXP SP3 and Win7 x64. On both machines, the service is set to log on with my user account which is in the Windows administrator group. Backups on both machines fail with the message "Couldn't create the destination directory "\nas1\backups\foo\bar\": The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect". I have tried setting the NAS's share to allow anonymous read/write access but it made no difference. Although I want the backups to run unattended in the middle of the night, I have tested them by running them manually while I'm logged in but no luck. Before starting that, I make sure that I can browse to the NAS with Explorer to ensure that any authentication session with Windows and the NAS has not expired. Still no luck. I have tried creating that destination directory both on the NAS before the backup and deleting it so the backup job could create it with the client's credentials but no luck. The usual answer in the Cobian support forums is that there is a permission problem. I agree. But at this point, what can I do to diagnose this further?

  I'm trying to install an ADFS proxy. In our intranet we have a ADFS 2.1 server running on Windows 2012 which is working fine. Now we're trying to deploy a proxy to this one for internet access, using Windows 2012 R2's Web Application Proxy. I'm getting the following error on the proxy server, event ID 393: Message : An error occurred while attempting to establish a trust relationship with the Federation Server. An error occurred when attempting to establish a trust relationship with the federation service. Error: Forbidden Context : DeploymentTask Status : Error I'm not getting any errors on the ADFS server. I've tried with different credentials. The ADFS service account, a domain administrator who is a member of the local administrators group on the ADFs server, and the local administrator account on the ADFS server. Same error message. Both port 80 and 443 is accessible from the proxy server to the internal ADFS server, and I can access the ADFS metadata endpoint from the proxy server. I'm using the same trusted SSL certificate (wildcard) on both machines. Do you have any ideas that can help me troubleshoot this problem?

• Windows 2008, IIS7 and virtual directories

  I created a virtual directory called test (C:\test) under the Default Web Site and added two simple test files (one html and one aspx). I thought I had to add the IUSR and NetworkService (for application pools) to C:\test and grant the users appropriate rights in order for IIS7 to serve the content. It appears that is not the case at all as I can view any files in the virtual directory (even if I convert it to an application) without changing or adding any security settings on the C:\test folder. I just installed IIS7 with ASP.NET on Windows 2008 without changing any settings besides adding the virtual directory. Am I missing something? Even my book on IIS7 states that the user accounts should be added an appropriate rights should be added. I added the following to answer the comments: I am referencing the file using a public IP http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/test/one.html and the IP nor localhost is in my trusted sites. I am not signed in on the server at all as I am accessing the content from my home machine and the content is on my production server. The following users/groups have access to c:\test on the server (Creator Owner, System, Administrators, Users) and the app pool is running under the default NetworkService account. I basically installed win2008, added the IIS role with asp.net. I then opened IIS7, added a virtual directory and copied two files to the directory to test. It works which is great but I want to understand why it works. How is it that IIS7 can access files in the C:\test folder without any permissions set.

• Task scheduler "hidden" only hides task, not process

  I am trying to make an application that acts like a desktop application for all the computers in our network. I have already got a windows forms app that works like I want it to, and I'm using the task scheduler to start it on login. We would really like it if the process as well as the task is hidden from the task manager in order to avoid accidental deletion. Selecting "Hidden" in the task scheduler hides the task (good!) but the process is still visible (not good enough). I tried using the option to run as "SYSTEM" or "LOCAL SERVICE" so that the user would get "access denied" when trying to delete or just wouldn't even view it by default. However, running as a service makes the process invisible on Vista and 7, and the point of my app is to display information interactively. (User can click, sort, etc). Is there any other alternatives to either run the process as someone/something besides the logged in user and still have the logged on user be able to see and interact with it? (Therefore it would list as someone else's app?) From what I've read on the internet, the only ways to actually hide something from the task manager seem hacky and/or difficult and rather involved. I don't really want to write a bunch of C or whatever only to maybe not have it work on Vista/7 anyway. Besides which, for a legitimate app with a legitimate use, I shouldn't have to go to those extremes... I see "Access Denied" all the time for system processes... why is it so hard for me to do the same? So does anyone have any simple solutions? Is it easier than I think to just list something in the task manager as another user? Thanks in advance for any replies.

The test setup goes like this: 1x windows server 2008 (DC/DNS) 2x windows server 2008 (Exchange 2010) I have made sure all services are up and running and that the "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" account is set as a local admin. When i create a DAG i can add the first mailbox server (A) without any problems, but when i go to add the second (B) it gives me an error saying "Unable to contact the Cluster service on 1 other members (member) of the Database availability group. It does the same if i add (B) first and then try to add (A). • untrusted (self-sign) certificate on android browser

  Hi all, Apologies for the brevity of this question but due to an unfortunate series of events, I've managed to brick my PC so am posting from my phone... We've just set up Windows Small Business Server 2008 at work which has an external web portal accessible via HTTPS. We haven't yet bought?installed any certificates. The portal provides access to email, sharepoint, remote desktop, etc.... (I'm aware some of these are never going to work on the phone) From firefox / other desktop browsers, this displays an "untrusted cert' warning which I can choose to ignore. When browsing from my mobile I get a popup notification which says. "A secure connection could not be established" when I OK this (my only option) I see the standard android-generated "unable to load page - has it moved?" Page. Does anyone know of a way to either accept the certificate temporarily or allow untrusted certificates generally? I'm aware that the latter option is non-ideal in the mid to long term but at the moment, I need to access the portal and am willing to either toggle settings as/when required or forego using the mobile for banking, etc... to mitigate my risk. • routing table permissions under Windows 7 and openvpn

  My ovpn client, 32-bit OpenVPN 2.1.1 on 64-bit Windows 7 Pro, cannot accept routes pushed to it by my remote endpoint ovpn server. This happens even if I invoke OpenVPN as a member of Administrators, and whether or not I've specified script-security 2 (as suggested by [this question][2]). • Cisco PIX to Juniper Netscreen Policy-based VPN fails Phase 2 Proposal

  I've followed the instructions to configure a VPN between a netscreen device and a Cisco PIX as directed by Cisco's [netscreen to PIX VPN]http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/technologies_configuration_example09186a00801c4445.shtml article. The only differences are that I'm running PIX 6.3(5) and Juniper Netscreen 6.1.0r2.0 (Firewall+VPN). I followed both configurations exactly, and when I try to connect, the Juniper returns with: 2010-02-21 12:54:28 information IKE: Removed Phase 2 SAs after receiving a notification message. 2010-02-21 12:54:28 information IKE pix_public_IP: Received a notification message for DOI 1 14 NO-PROPOSAL-CHOSEN. 2010-02-21 12:54:28 information IKE pix_public_IP Phase 2: Initiated negotiations. On the Netscreen, I've created a Phase 2 Proposal called ToCorpOffice using DH Group#2, 3DES-CBC, and SHA-1, and when configuring the AutoKey IKE, I chose ToCorpOffice and removed all other transforms.
