• python / sqlite - database locked despite large timeouts

  Hi, I'm sure I'm missing something pretty obvious, but I can't for the life of me stop my pysqlite scripts crashing out with a database is locked error. I have two scripts, one to load data into the database, and one to read data out, but both will frequently, and instantly, crash depending on what the other is doing with the database at any given time. I've got the timeout on both scripts set to 30 seconds: cx = sqlite.connect("database.sql", timeout=30.0) and think I can see some evidence of the timeouts in that i get what appears to be a timing stamp (e.g 0.12343827e-06 0.1 - and how do I stop that being printed?) dumped occasionally in the middle of my curses formatted output screen, but no delay that ever gets remotely near the 30 second timeout, but still one of the other keeps crashing again and again from this. I'm running RHEL5.4 on a 64 bit 4 cpu HS21 IBM blade, and have heard some mention about issues about multi-threading and am not sure if this might be relevant. Packages in use are sqlite-3.3.6-5 and python-sqlite-1.1.7-1.2.1, and upgrading to newer versions outside of RedHat's official provisions is not a great option for me. Possible, but not desirable due to the environment in general. I have had autocommit=1 on previously on both scripts, but have since disabled on both, and am now cx.commit()ing on the inserting script and not committing on the select script. Ultimately as I only ever have one script actually making any modifications, I don't really see why this locking should ever ever happen. I have noticed that this is significantly worse over time when the database has gotten larger. It was recently at 13mb with 3 equal sized tables, which was about 1 day's worth of data. creating a new file has significantly improved this, which seems understandable, but the timeout ultimately just doesn't seem to be being obeyed. I'm still thinking outside of the box somewhat and trying to come up with a better mnemonic set than last time. When the previous interpreter was written, it was completed over two contiguous, rushed evenings. This rewrite deserves significantly more time now that it is the summer. Of course, the next version of Whitespace (0.4) may have its instructions revised even more, but this is just a redesign of what originally was done in a very short amount of time. Hopefully, the instructions make more sense once someone new to programmings thinks about them.

Could guide me the basic know-how to extract these data? I have looked through the other questions pertaining to reading Excel files into MATLAB, but I am still very confused. I ultimately wish to extract the file below for my project using the same method. The second image shows the data I have to extract which I could not do. Its file type seems to be different, it is comma separated values file which is not xls. Hence, I am also confuse about whether different file type prevents extraction of data. • Problem retrieving multiple instances of the same asp.net session variable

  I'm having problems with retrieving multiple instances of a session variable from an InProc session state. In the following code I persist a simple BusinessObject into a session variable on the Page_Load event. On the click of a button I try to retrieve the object back into 2 new declared instances of the same BusinessObject. All works great until I change one of the properties in the first instance, it changes the second instance as well. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought as these were new instances they wouldn’t demonstrate static behaviour? Any ideas where I'm going wrong? • Can anyone tell me about a jQuery modal dialog box library that doesn't suck

  jQuery based modal dialog boxes are great as long as you do as much as the example tells you to. I need a jQuery based modal dialog box library that has to have the following characteristics: It should be fast, something like the add and link dialog on StackOverflow. Most libraries take an eternity to load the dialog with its fancy effects and stuff. I want to call it using a script. Show a hidden div or a span element inline. MOst of the libraries talk filling an anchor with rel, class and href=#hiddenDiv sort of things. I need to be able to what I want without adding unnecessary attributes to my anchor. Something like this function showDialog(values) { processToChangeDom(values); changeDivTobeDisplayed(); modalDialog.show(); } It should reflect changes I make to the DOM in the hidden Div. I used facebox and found out that it makes a copy of the hidden div and changes to the DOM doesn't reflect on the modal window. I need to be able call the close modal div using javascript and also attach beforeOpen and afterClose handlers to the action. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have already tried facebox, simplemodal and a whole range of libraries, most of them don't support one or the other of these functions I described above.

• Launchd agent not starting

  I'm attempting to write a launchd agent that runs a simple application for every user that logs in to the Mac OS X system. I have created a file named com.mycompany.myapp.plist and placed it in /Library/LaunchAgents. The contents of that file are: { LimitLoadToSessionType = "Aqua"; StartInterval = 10; OnDemand = NO; KeepAlive = YES; RunAtLoad = YES; Label = "com.mycompany.myapp"; Program = "/Users/thomi/myapp"; ProgramArguments = ( "/Users/thomi/myapp", "-l", "-d", ); } Initially I didn't have the StartInterval key set, since I thought the agent would start automatically. The problem is that the agent does not start unless I manually issue the following two commands: launchctl load -S Aqua -D all launchctl start com.mycompany.myapp Firther, when I run launchctl list com.mycompany.myapp I get the following output: { "Label" = "com.mycompany.myapp"; "LimitLoadToSessionType" = "System"; "OnDemand" = true; "LastExitStatus" = 0; "TimeOut" = 30; "Program" = "/Users/thomi/myapp"; ProgramArguments = ( "/Users/thomi/myapp", "-l", "-d", ); }; Notice that the LimitLoadToSessionType parameter has changed. • Google Chrome, IE problem with adjusting style before AJAX

  When I'm using AJAX, I typically do something before each request to let the user know that they'll be waiting for a second. This is usually done by just adding an animated loading gif. When I do this, Firefox does what you'd expect and adds the gif before moving control to the next line (where the AJAX is called). In Chrome, it locks the browser and doesn't make any DOM changes at all (let alone load an image), including even changing the color of something, until the AJAX is done. This isn't just AJAX though. It's anything that holds control, and it never makes DOM changes until the control is given back to the window. Example (using jQuery): function submit_order() { $('#my_element').css('color', '#FF0000'); // Make text red before calling AJAX $.getJSON('/api/', my_callback) // Note, in IE and Chrome #my_element isn't turned red until the AJAX finishes and my_callback is run } Why does this happen, and how can I solve it? I can't use ASYNC because of the nature of the data (it would be a big mess). I experimented with using window.setTimeout(myajaxfunc, 150) after setting the style, to see if it would set the style, then do the timeout, but it appears it isn't an issue with just AJAX, but rather the control of the script in general (I think, hence the title making mention to AJAX because this is the only time I ever run into this problem). This doesn't have anything to do with it being in a function BTW.

  How can i write a cloud-aware application? e.g. an application that takes benefit of being deployed on cloud. Is it same as an application that runs or a vps/dedicated server? if not then what are the differences? are there any design changes? What are the procedures that i need to take if i am to migrate an application to cloud-aware? Also i am about to implement a web application idea which would need features like security, performance, caching, and more importantly free. I have been comparing some frameworks and found that django has least RAM/CPU usage and works great in prefork+threaded mode, but i have also read that django based sites stop to respond with huge load of connections. Other frameworks that i have seen/know are Zend, CakePHP, Lithium/Cake3, CodeIgnitor, Symfony, Ruby on Rails.... So i would leave this to your opinion as well, suggest me a good free framework based on my needs. Finally thanks for reading the essay ;)

• Can WPF based ActiveX control use Reg-Free-COM

  I have a WPF based ActiveX control (COM interop). I am able to use it correctly by registering the control. When I tried to Reg-Free-COM (using manifest files) the control seems to be activated, but the events (such as mouse click, RequestBringIntoView etc) dont respond. Interestingly, Double click and tab key works. I read in the this article http://blogs.msdn.com/karstenj/archive/2006/10/09/activex-wpf-gadget.aspx that " ... These upsides come with a price: the ActiveX control must be registered in the registry, which requires some kind of installation such as an .msi. The default gadget installation process cannot install ActiveX. The ActiveX control can't be access via reg-free COM. ..." Has anybody had a similar experience? Can anyone explain what is going on? Additional details: When the control is activated after it has been registered it appears as part of the COM client's UI. The control does not receive focus, its elements receive it. When using reg-free-com the control does not load correctly. 1) The control receives focus instead of its sub elements 2) The control has areas that are black instead of the windows default color 3) when I tab in and out of the control or double click it, it's subelements receive focus, the control starts receiving events and the black areas are replaced by the correct color

• NetApp erroring with: STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT

  Since a sitewide upgrade to Windows 7 on desktop, I've started having a problem with virus checking. Specifically - when doing a rename operation on a (filer hosted) CIFS share. The virus checker seems to be triggering a set of messages on the filer: [filerB: auth.trace.authenticateUser.loginTraceIP:info]: AUTH: Login attempt by user server-wk8-r2$ of domain MYDOMAIN from client machine 10.1.1.20 (server-wk8-r2). [filerB: auth.dc.trace.DCConnection.statusMsg:info]: AUTH: TraceDC- attempting authentication with domain controller \\MYDC. [filerB: auth.trace.authenticateUser.loginRejected:info]: AUTH: Login attempt by user rejected by the domain controller with error 0xc0000199: STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT. [filerB: auth.trace.authenticateUser.loginTraceMsg:info]: AUTH: Delaying the response by 5 seconds due to continuous failed login attempts by user server-wk8-r2$ of domain MYDOMAIN from client machine 10.1.1.20. This seems to specifically trigger on a rename so what we think is going on is the virus checker is seeing a 'new' file, and trying to do an on-access scan. The virus checker - previously running as LocalSystem and thus sending null as it's authentication request is now looking rather like a DOS attack, and causing the filer to temporarily black list. This 5s lock out each 'access attempt' is a minor nuisance most of the time, and really quite significant for some operations - e.g. large file transfers, where every file takes 5s Having done some digging, this seems to be related to NLTM authentication: Symptoms Error message: System error 1808 has occurred. The account used is a computer account. Use your global user account or local user account to access this server. A packet trace of the failure will show the error as: STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT (0xC0000199) Cause Microsoft has changed the functionality of how a Local System account identifies itself during NTLM authentication. This only impacts NTLM authentication. It does not impact Kerberos Authentication. Solution On the host, please set the following group policy entry and reboot the host. Network Security: Allow Local System to use computer identity for NTLM: Disabled Defining this group policy makes Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 function like Windows Server 2008 SP1. So we've now got a couple of workaround which aren't particularly nice - one is to change this security option. One is to disable virus checking, or otherwise exempt part of the infrastructure. And here's where I come to my request for assistance from ServerFault - what is the best way forwards? I lack Windows experience to be sure of what I'm seeing. I'm not entirely sure why NTLM is part of this picture in the first place - I thought we were using Kerberos authentication. I'm not sure how to start diagnosing or troubleshooting this. (We are going cross domain - workstation machine accounts are in a separate AD and DNS domain to my filer. Normal user authentication works fine however.) And failing that, can anyone suggest other lines of enquiry? I'd like to avoid a site wide security option change, or if I do go that way I'll need to be able to supply detailed reasoning. Likewise - disabling virus checking works as a short term workaround, and applying exclusions may help... but I'd rather not, and don't think that solves the underlying problem. EDIT: Filers in AD ldap have SPNs for: nfs/host.fully.qualified.domain nfs/host HOST/host.fully.qualified.domain HOST/host (Sorry, have to obfuscate those). Could it be that without a 'cifs/host.fully.qualified.domain' it's not going to work? (or some other SPN? ) Edit: As part of the searching I've been doing I've found: http://itwanderer.wordpress.com/2011/04/14/tread-lightly-kerberos-encryption-types/ Which suggests that several encryption types were disabled by default in Win7/2008R2. This might be pertinent, as we've definitely had a similar problem with Keberized NFSv4. There is a hidden option which may help some future Keberos users: options nfs.rpcsec.trace on (This hasn't given me anything yet though, so may just be NFS specific). Edit: Further digging has me tracking it back to cross domain authentication. It looks like my Windows 7 workstation (in one domain) is not getting Kerberos tickets for the other domain, in which my NetApp filer is CIFS joined. I've done this separately against a standalone server (Win2003 and Win2008) and didn't get Kerberos tickets for those either. Which means I think Kerberos might be broken, but I've no idea how to troubleshoot further. Edit: A further update: It looks like this may be down Kerberos tickets not being issued cross domain. This then triggers NTLM fallback, which then runs into this problem (since Windows 7). First port of call will be to investigate the Kerberos side of things, but in neither case do we have anything pointing at the Filer being the root cause. As such - as the storage engineer - it's out of my hands. However, if anyone can point me in the direction of troubleshooting Kerberos spanning two Windows AD domains (Kerberos Realms) then that would be appreciated. Options we're going to be considering for resolution: Amend policy option on all workstations via GPO (as above). Talking to AV vendor about the rename triggering scanning. Talking to AV vendor regarding running AV as service account. investigating Kerberos authentication (why it's not working, whether it should be).

• SimpleDOM sortedXPath date sorting works on localhost but not on remote server.

  Here's what i'm trying to do: 1) Take a basic XML page (data.xml) 2) Load it with simpleDOM 3) Use simpleDOM sortedXPath to sort all XML items by their pubDate 4) Display sorted output Here is the code I currently have. My code below outputs exactly what I need when run it on my localhost (XAMPP w/PHP 5.3) but on my remote server (which has at least PHP 5.0+) all is lost and a completely blank page is output. It will output the $xml array with print_r though. • Getting EXC_BAD_ACCESS without any helpful msg from NSZombieEnabled

  Hello guys. I'm a newbie to iphone development and I've been struggling with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error I got a couple of days ago. I'm basically taking the Stanford iphone class independently and I am trying to pass an array of NSManagedObjects to a TableViewController that's supposed to display them. The application launches in the simulator and displays the data in the tableView but it immediately errors out with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I followed instructions here and other places on how to use NSZombieEnabled to identify prematurely released objects but this one comes without any helpful msgs even with NSZombieEnabled. My guess is it must be caused by something trying to access unassigned memory that wasn't released through release/autorelease. Or else it would have been picked up as zombie object like the other errors I have been able to fix. I'm not a c expert but does that mean something like that could happen if I were to declare an object and send it a message without ever instantiating it? I looked through my code to see if I had anything like that and I came up empty. I have the stack trace in the debugger for this but I'm not sure how to make use of it. I'm a little frustrated because I can't use breakpoints in the code to narrow down the problem any further since it seems to happen after the app has finished loading. I thought the app would just stay idle if there was no possible user interaction. Is it failing at the tail end of the load where I can't easy see it or is jut doing stuff in the background after it's done loading. And I would much appreciate any tips on how to read the stacktrace for this. Thanks for the help guys.

I also can't figure how I could get serialnumber and backlightlevel to display on the click of a button or even at load. My attempts have thrown back errors like error: 'serialnumber' undeclared (first use in this function) and warnings like warning: 'return' with a value, in function returning void.   I have a map with hotspots for each state (done in Expression Blend). I capture each MouseEnter of the state (1 thru 50). StackPanel has DataContext but no ItemsSource. What am I missing?

• Subview Doesnt AutoSize When Added to Root View Controller

  Hello, I have a root view controller that will have up to 10 or so subviews. I am implementing autorotation/autosize accross the entire app. My problem is this: - When I allocate all the view controllers and add each as a subview to the root controller during startup, everything works as it should. The only problem is that each view controller needs time to initialize. This causes my application to load very slowly. Instead I am trying to allocate the view controllers as they are required. Now I find that if the application goes into Landscape, and I allocate a view controller that is designed in portrait, it will autorotate but the autosize doesnt happen. In other words as soon as the subview is added to the root controller in portrait mode it rotates and sizes correctly (and stays that way). If the subview is added when the root controller is in landscape it rotates but doesnt autosize (and view sizes remain messed up rotating back to portrait) I have tried to force an autosize by calling SetNeedsLayout, SetNeedsDisplay, and LayoutIfNeeded but nothing works. I know i could probably do this manually by determining the root controllers orientation and resizing the subviews appropriately, but this is a lot of work for something that should work automatically. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated. My project is an iPad port from an iPhone app, the iPhone app doesnt rotate so Im not sure if this may be something wrong with the 3.2 beta.

• Winforms: How to speed up Invalidate()?

  I'm developing a retained mode drawing application in GDI+. The application can draw simple shapes to a canvas and perform basic editing. The math that does this is optimized to the last byte and is not an issue. I'm drawing on a panel that is using the built-in Controlstyles.DoubleBuffer. Now, my problem arises if I run my app maximized on a big monitor (HD in my case). If I try to draw a line from one corner of the (big) canvas to the diagonally oposite other, it will start to lag and the CPU goes high up. Each graphical object in my app has a boundingbox. Thus, when I invalidate the boundingbox of a line that goes from one corner of the maximized app to the oposite diagonal one, that boundingbox is virtually as big as the canvas. When a user is drawing a line, this invalidation of the boundingbox thus happens on the mousemove event, and there is a clear lag visible. This lag also exists if the line is the only object on the canvas. I've tried to optimize this in many ways. If I draw a shorter line, the CPU and the lag goes down. If I remove the Invalidate() and keep all other code, the app is quick. If I use a Region (that only spans the figure) to invalidate instead of the boundingbox, it is just as slow. If I split the boundingbox into a range of smaller boxes that lie back to back, thus reducing the invalidation area, no visible performance gain can be seen. Thus I'm at a loss here. How can I speed up the invalidation? On a side note, both Paint.Net and Mspaint suffers from the same shortcommings. Word and PowerPoint however, seem to be able to paint a line as described above with no lag and no CPU load at all. Thus it's possible to achieve the desired results, the question is how?

  Heyo, I'm messing with converting images to ASCII ones. For this I load the image, use getPixel() on each pixel, then change insert a character with that colour into a richTextBox. If I change this richTextBox1.SelectionColor = bmBild.GetPixel(x, y); to this richTextBox1.SelectionColor = Color.Red; It works fine. Why am I not getting the right colours? (I know it doesn't do the new lines properly, but I thought I'd get to the bottom of this issue first.) Thanks

• Importing MEF-Plugins into MVC Controllers

  Hello. There are several examples of using MEF to plugin whole controller/view packages into a MVC application, but i didn't found one, using MEF to plugin funcional parts, used by other controllers. For example, think of a NewsService with a simple interface like interface INewsService { List<NewsItem> GetAllNews(); } That gets news wherever he wants, and returns them in a List of NewsItems. My page should load an exported INewsService and show the news on the page. But there is the problem. I cant just use [Import] in the controllers, as they are just created when they are needed. Edit: (Importing them to the main MVCApplication class doesn't work, becouse i cant access it from the controllers.) I think i found a way to access the main app via HttpContext.ApplicationInstance. But the Service object in this instance is null although it was created successfully in the Application_Start() method. Any idea why? So, how can i access the NewsService from within a controller?   Hi ! First time of here, so please bare with me. I have to following problem, using zend framework, specifically zend_nav to create a reusable menu to be passed in via the layout/layout.phtml page. • Media Kind in iTunes COM for Windows SDK

  I recently found out about the awesomeness of the iTunes COM for Windows SDK. I am using Python with win32com to talk to my iTunes library. Needless to say, my head is in the process of exploding. This API rocks. I have one issue though, how do I access the Media Kind attribute of the track? I looked through the help file provided in the SDK and saw no sign of it. If you go into iTunes, you can modify the track's media kind. This way if you have an audiobook that is showing up in your music library, you can set the Media Kind to Audiobook and it will appear in the Books section in iTunes. Pretty nifty. The reason I ask is because I have a whole crap load of audiobooks that are showing up in my LibraryPlaylist. • Failure to register .dll with regsvr32 - only in Release build.

  Hi, I'm having a weird problem when trying to register the .dll i created using regsvr32. During development everything went fine, the debug version registers and works fine. Now i wanted to create a Release version, but that Version does not register anymore. regsvr32 comes up with the following error: The module "mpegsplitter.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified procedure could not be found. Some research brought me to the dependency walker, which does tell me this Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module. It also does show a dependency on "crtdll.dll" that the debug version does not have (The function view shows soem functions that normally should be in ole32.dll), which is colored red'ish. So far so good, i guess its somehow related to what the dependency walker shows there. But where do i go from here? How do i fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, that has been keeping me busy for several hours already. Thanks!
