  What is the correct way to find the absolute path to the App_Data folder from a Controller in an ASP.NET MVC project? I'd like to be able to temporarily work with an .xml file and I don't want to hardcode the path. This does not work: [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { public ActionResult Index() { string path = VirtualPathUtility.ToAbsolute("~/App_Data/somedata.xml"); //.... do whatever return View(); } } I think outside of the web context VirtualPathUtility.ToAbsolute() doesn't work. string path comes back as "C:\App_Data\somedata.xml" Where should I determine the path of the .xml file in an MVC app? global.asax and stick it an application-level variable?

• Visual Studio 2010 Beta start without debugging Console wont stay open

  I want to keep the console (output) window open to view the output of the project I am working on. I have enabled the start without debugging option and added the button to the debugging toolbar, but alas it fails to keep it open nicely like in visual studio 2008. I have to add cin.getline() etc etc etc to get it to stay open, but I don't want to type it. Any suggestions as to alter it Visual Studio 2010 to keep it open, or any debugging tricks to make it easier to view output for longer than a flash. Visual Studio used to have a "Press any key to continue prompt" I want it back...

  Hello. I added Orthographic Camera to my project. I want to show my chart on screen proportional. For example height is 4 and width 4 (region from -2 to 2). I set width to 4 and it perfectly fit my square in widht. but i have problem with height. The chart top and bottom is always out of screen space. Why this happens and how to set to camera view the same width and height ? Camera position: 0,0,5 Viewport have size: 571.5x497 On image we can see on vertical axis points from 2 to -2 but on vertical much more. How to make them same?   Guys, In Our project I have used LINQ to SQL for every kind of database interaction. Now from what I know , When I create and use DataContext object : it opens the connection , crates a transaction , perform the query and closes the connection. Every now and then we are getting Connection pool error on our services and Server. " The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached. " Any idea ? Am I completely off here ? Is this related to SQL Server itself ? We are using LINQ , .Net 3.5 and Sql Server 2008 NOTE: NO DATAREADER IS BEING USED ANYWHERE IN SYSTEM. Thanks

  I'm trying to use .NET HttpListener in a C# project. When I register my prefix "http://*:8080/" it does not seem to work for HTTPS urls (i.e. doesn't pick them up).   Hi friends, I'm going to start some projects in next weeks. I currently have my custom cms, but i wanna go for opensource cms solution from now on. and as i researched Drupal is COOL for any kind of project from small scope to most complex ones. I have never used Drupal before, I know nothing about it yet. Would it worth to work on Drupal 6 for now, or better to wait for Drupal 7? is there any big difference about the way it works. i would feel silly to spend days-weeks to learn Drupal 6 now and after few months when Drupal 7 beta is out, a new learning curve and having troubles to upgrade to Drupal 7 my current Drupal 6 projects?   Hi, We're in the process of upgrading from VS2008 to VS2010 since it's now released. We are using CC.NET along with MSTest and want to use MS coverage tool instead of NCover. Interestingly, as I've seen others talking about as well, when you upgrade your project from VS2008 to VS2010 your Test Projects get converted to .NET 4. Nice move!! So WTF does one do with their CI environment in order to build this stuff (some projects in .net 3.5, some in .net 4 - these are different FRAMEWORKS!) LOL!!! It seems that I might need to have my CC.NET build two separate projects? - not sure about how to run the units tests from cruise with .net 4. Has anyone done this and have a snippet of their config they might share? And I thought this was going to be a simple thing. :( thanks! Bill44077

• Generating a KML heatmap from given data set of [lat, lon, density]

  I am looking to build a static KML (Google Earth markup) file which displays a heatmap-style rendering of a few given data sets in the form of [lat, lon, density] tuples. A very straightforward data set I have is for population density. My requirements are: must be able to feed in data for a given lat, lon must be able to specific the given density of the data at that lat, lon must export to KML The requirements are language agnostic for this project as I will be generating these files offline in order to build the KML used elsewhere. I have looked at a few projects, most notably heatmap.py, which is a port of gheat in Python with KML export. I have hit a brick wall in the sense that the projects I have found to date all rely on building the heatmap from the density of [lat, lon] points fed into the algorithm. If I am missing an obvious way to adapt my data set to feed in just the [lat, lon] tuples but adjusting how I feed them using the density values I have, I would love to know!

I would like to see an informative example of such setup, so I could build my own project off that. I tried googling, found some pretty things like S#arp Architecture, an article about regular ASP.NET (WebForms) integrated with the frameworks and so on. Still, I'm missing a good tutorial on ASP.NET MVC & the subj. P.S.: I do know how Spring and Hibernate works, I just need to plug them into an MVC application.   I'm trying to pass a ViewData object from a master page to a view user control using the ViewDataDictionary. The problem is the ViewDataDictionary is not returning any values in the view user control whichever way i try it. The sample code below is using an anonymous object just for demonstration although neither this method or passing a ViewData object works. Following is the RenderPartial helper method i'm trying to use: <% Html.RenderPartial("/Views/Project/Projects.ascx", ViewData.Eval("Projects"), new ViewDataDictionary(new { Test = "Mark" })); %> and in my view user control i do the following: <%= Html.Encode(ViewData["Test"]) %> Why does this not return anything? EDIT: I'm able to pass and access the stronlgy typed model without any problems. it's the ViewDataDictionary which i'm trying to use to pass say just a single value outside of the model..

But the current problem is that the old messenger API that I had no longer works. And the current API i can only find information about addins (complicated for the end user to set up unless I make an installer), Or contact information. I need .vcproj! Environment: Windows XP Pro SP3, MSVC 7.1 and 8.0. Qt is installed in C:\Qt\2010.02 (LGPL version). Commands are run from Qt Command Prompt. What's wrong with it? How to generate .sln/.vcproj? May I generate them for MSVC 7.1 and 8.0?

  HI all misters When I try Debug my project (unit tests) i get the following error: LoadFromContext was detected Message: The assembly named 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.Common' was loaded from 'file:///C:/Program Files/Microsoft Visual Studio 8/Common7/IDE/PrivateAssemblies/Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.Common.DLL' using the LoadFrom context. The use of this context can result in unexpected behavior for serialization, casting and dependency resolution. In almost all cases, it is recommended that the LoadFrom context be avoided. This can be done by installing assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache or in the ApplicationBase directory and using Assembly.Load when explicitly loading assemblies. It's nightmare for me...!!! I am using VS 2008 profession, XP sp2 Any suggestions , please ?? Thanks.

  I get an error when build static lib with NDK on Windows platform: process_begin: CreateProcess( "PATH"\android-ndk-r8b\toolchains\arm-linux-androideabi-4.6\prebuilt\windows\bin\arm-linux-androideabi-ar.exe, "some other commands" ) failed. make (e=87): The parameter is incorrect. make: *** [obj/local/armeabi-v7a/staticlib.a] Error 87 make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... All source files build successfully, and this error occur when compose object files. I don't get this error when build this project in Ubuntu, it occur only on Windows. I suppose I found the issue: second parameter of CreateProcess Win API function lpCommandLine has max length 32,768 characters. But in my case it is more than 32,768 characters. How I can solve this issue?

  I'm evaluating using Coco/R vs. ANTLR for use in a C# project as part of what's essentially a scriptable mail-merge functionality. To parse the (simple) scripts, I'll need a parser. I've focussed on Coco/R and ANTLR because both seem fairly mature and well-maintained and capable of generating decent C# parsers. Neither seem to be trivial to use either, however, and simplicity is something I'd appreciate - particularly maintainability by others. Does anyone have any recommendations to make? What are the pros/cons of either for a parsing a small language - or am I looking into the wrong things entirely? How well do these integrate into a typical continuous integration setup? • Jboss Seam: Enabling Debug page on WebLogic 10.3.2 (11g)

  Hi all, SKIP TO UPDATE 3 I want to enable the Seam debug page on Weblogic 10.3.2 (11g). So, I have done the following: I have the jboss-seam and jboss-seam-debug jars as dependency in both my ejb and web maven projects (both are modules of my superproject) I put this context parameter in my web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.debug</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </context-param> Now, when I hit the URL of my application, I get the debug page with this exception (full stacktrace at the end of the post): Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" From posts I read it seems that this is somehow related to two jars of jboss-seam or jboss-seam-debug being in the classpath. I opened my ear file and only one of each is present (in the ear) whereas the war itself has no libraries in the WEB-INF/lib. I have also read of another way to initialize debug page using the components.xml. They have an outer EAR project containing the inner WAR project. They discuss that this may be related to how jars end up in the projects. I use Maven, and I had set it to create "Skinny Wars", that is excluding all jar dependencies from the inner WAR project, so that it remains small in size. • Is Cassandra production ready for Ruby on Rails?

  I'm working on a project that is considering using Cassandra as a database. We would like to eventually migrate to Cassandra even if we use MySQL to start with, given its scalability. I know that big companies like Facebook, Digg, and recently Twitter is using Cassandra, but I don't believe any of those sites run off Rails. My question is whether or not it's feasible to use Cassandra using Ruby on Rails. Points to consider: We heavily rely on the Authlogic gem. Would switching to Cassandra affect how it works? Are there any mature ruby clients for Cassandra? Looking on Github it seems that fauna's client is the most mature. Has anyone had production experience with it? Appreciate any tips.
