    To continue with this question: Should be Vmware vCenter server high available? According to the response there even if vCenter is down HA will continue to work. So, if my vCenter is a VM, using the express sql edition in the same VM, and that VM is hosted in the same cluster it manages (and the cluster is setup for HA): Am I correct to assume that if the host that hosts the vCenter goes down HA will vmotion the vCenter VM to another host and it will continue to function? BTW: my environment is small, two ESXi 5.0 hosts, with about 50 VMs, using iSCSI shared storaged for everything.

  • Wake on Lan/Wan won't work after some time has passsed

    I have the following set up: Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Wake On Lan Enabled Asus N66U Port Forwarding Static IP assigned to my computer Windows 7 Advanced Power Management - PCI Express - Off Intel 82579V - All options under Power Management checked I'm trying to set this up for Wake on Wan capabilities. If I shut down my computer and immediately try to Wake on Wan (and Lan) it works and starts up. While the computer is on, I've used a few WOL specific packet sniffers and the packet comes through on the correct port. After any period of time over a few minutes, waking on Wan or Lan won't work. The back "activity" light is blinking on my ethernet port on my computer, as well as on the router, so I would assume the network card is on and able to receive a signal. Any ideas? Suggestions? What can I do to troubleshoot the problem?

The text is legitimate but it has the words 'create' and an html <table> tag later in it so it is causing a false positive.     Windows Calculator can switch into a "Scientific" mode, getting more math and logical operators, but that's not good enough. I know there are tons of features its missing, such as the ones we see in the Windows 7 calc, or simply making things more visual. Its been years and I still haven't found a good calculator replacement. Suggestions? And hopefully your calc replaces MS Calc when I press the dedicated "calculator key" on my Keyboard, so I don't have to hunt around for a shortcut.

  • Allow opening a new tab with Ctrl+T on all websites in Firefox

    In Firefox, certain websites and plugins (Adobe PDF Plugin) appear to "capture" the Control key, so that when I try to open a new tab using "Ctrl+t", nothing happens - or worse, something unexpected happens. Examples: On the Codecademy site, while editing code, Ctrl+T either does nothing, or (when Flash is disabled) switches the position of the two characters next to the cursor. When viewing PDF's with the Adobe PDF Plugin, Ctrl+T does nothing. Is there a way to disable this "feature"? I would like "Ctrl+t" to always "talk" to Firefox! Edit: After searching superuser deeper, this question is very similar to the questions: "How to prevent keystroke grabbing/hijacking by websites in Firefox?" "How do I prevent pages I visit from overriding selected Firefox shortcut keys?". The answers to these questions are interesting and relevant, but do not give a method on how to disable combinatinos such as "Ctrl+t". Maybe a modified Greasemonkey script is the easiest solultion. Edit 2 - Attempt at a solution The following UserScript (Use GreaseMonkey to install it) successfully captures Ctrl+t on some sites (Google Search site, for instance - PopUp "Gotcha" appears), but not on the Codecademy site.   • How can I know if a replacement display is compatible with my laptop?

    I have an Acer Aspire 4810TZ from 2010 which I truly love - it's a 3 year old notebook that still carries on for about 5 to 6h straight off the battery. I've also invested in it with an SSD and extra RAM and it's fine for my use right now. I'd really rather not just dump it. Now... its screen is dead and I'm looking for replacement parts, but it turns out to be a kind of expensive display - AUO B140XW02 14" LED. US$ 125 was the cheapest I found here (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The official dealer sells them for US$ 175. I'm aware of How do I know if a LCD is compatible with my Laptop? and Can I replace a laptop screen with one of a different resolution? but the answers don't really help me in this case. Also Replacing an LCD screen in a laptop gives me a hint but I'm completely dumb at hardware so this is why i'm asking: Is it possible to buy an LCD or a lower grade LED screen with the same connectors? What characteristics should I look for to find out if a certain display is compatible?

  • how i can identify which process is making UDP traffic on linux?

    my machine is continously making udp dns traffic request. what i need to know is the PID of the process generating this traffic. The normal way in TCP connection is to use netstat/lsof and get the process associated at the pid. Is UDP the connection is stateles, so, when i call netastat/lsof i can see it only if the UDP socket is opened and it's sending traffic. I have tried with lsof -i UDP and with nestat -anpue but i cant be able to find wich process is doing that request because i need to call lsof/netstat exactly when the udp traffic is sended, if i call lsof/netstat before/after the udp datagram is sended is impossible to view the opened UDP socket. call netstat/lsof exactly when 3/4 udp packet is sended is IMPOSSIBLE. how i can identify the infamous process ? I have already inspected the traffic to try to identify the sended PID from the content of the packet, but is not possible to identify it from the contect of the traffic. anyone can help me ?   • HP G61 Laptop wont boot- display stays off, caps and num lock indicators blink repeatedly

    I had my HP G61 laptop running in sleep for a while. When I came back to it about a half-hour later, it was no longer in sleep mode - the power light and the Wi-Fi indicator light were on (I keep Wi-Fi off becuase I use a wired connection) - but nothing was showing on screen. In fact, the display wasn't even turned on. So I let it sit for about 10 minutes but nothing happened. I did a force shut down and rebooted. Instead of a normal boot, the display didnt turn on, the Wi-Fi indicator was off, and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights just blinked repeatedly. On the external keyboard i use, none of the light indicators were blinking or even on. I tried force shut-down again 10 times, then unplugged all connections except for the power cable (my laptop battery dosent hold a charge for more than 2 minutes, so I always must have a wall connection) and tried to boot again but still nothing happened. I unplugged the battery and even then nothing happened. I also tried booting with the disk drive open, and then with it closed again. On the time it was closed, I was able to successfully boot into Windows, but recieved a "Windows did not shut-down sucessfully" notice. Does anybody know why this may have happened? My PC's specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit 4GB of physical RAM, 8GB of vRAM (on a flash drive) AMD Vision x64 processor (don't know any other specs about it) ATI Radeon graphics card, 392 MB DVD-R/W lightscribe drive 2 External hard-disks (first one is 1.5TB, second one is 1TB) custom boot-screen and boot-annimation Standard BIOS apps running before sleep: firefox 10.4 itunes 10.6 adobe photoshop extended CS5.1 rockstar games social club (running in background) microsoft powerpoint 2010 professional edition google chrome I was NOT running Aero or any fancy themes - I was using the normal windows classic theme. I have a desktop icon manager application called Stardock Fences that was also running (it runs as a service/process).

    Is it possible to assign different background images to tabs in Conemu? Console2 supports custom backgrounds per tab, and I'd like something similar to the functionality it provides.   • What's next for all of these Microsoft "overlapping" and "enhanced" products ?

    Recently I attended a road show, organised by MS Gold Partner company in the UK. The products discussed were: SharePoint server (2010 and 2007), Exchange server, Office Communication Server 2007, Exchange hosted services Office Live meeting, Office Communicator, System Center Configuration Manager and Operation Manager, VMware, Windows 7 etc. As Microsoft claims the enhancement in the each product against higher version, I felt that clients are not much interested in all these details. For example Office Communicator, surely they have improved a lot the product and first site all said 'WOW' great product, but nobody wish to pay money for all these extra features. Some argued, they are bogged down by all these increased number of menus. They don't need soft call feature included with mobile call. It apply for all other products as well such as MS office (next what 2 ribbons ?), windows OS and many more. Indeed there must be good features in all these products, but is it worth to spend money and time to update the older system ? Also sometimes these feature will decrease the productivity instead increase it. *So do you think what ever enhancement MS is doing in the products is only for selling purpose, not a real use ?? and I think also keep the developer busy learning the new tools and features. * I am sure some some people here will argue that some people need this sort of features. But I am not talking about NASA or MI5 guys. I am talking of usual businesses and joe public. Any ideas welcome.

  • How can I make my monitor run at it's native resolution under Kubuntu 9.10?

    Hi, I have installed Kubuntu 9.10 afresh on an HP desktop computer with a Samsung SyncMaster 2243 and Intel integrated graphics card.   • Excel - "send to Mail recipient" creates 2nd copy of EMail in Inbox

    When sending Excel sheets using the menu item "File" - "Sent To" - "Mail recipient (as attachment)" I get additional copies of the email in the Inbox. When I press "send" then I get 2 copies of the email in Outlook - as expected one in the Outbox (which moves into the Sent folder as soon it is sent off) and an additional one in the Inbox. How do I stop the copy message appearing in the Inbox? System: Excel 2000, Outlook 2000, Windows XP. Antivirus is AVG Free 2011. I know this is a very old system, but it is not my PC and there isn't any chance to get it replaced in the near future yet. SOme further details: The copy in the inbox appears at the same time as the normal copy goes into the Outbox (i.e. as soon I press send). It doesn't contain anything in the From field (i.e. there is no sender, just the recipient of the mail). It has a different icon in Outlook to the other emails - the icon is the one for "saved or unsent message". I tried it with a few different spreadsheets and it happens with all of them. It happens with every recipient, and it only happens if sending from within Excel (i.e. using the Send to menu item). I can delete the attachment before sending and it will still create a copy. If I create a new message in Outlook and then add the Excel document as attachment then I don't get the copy of the message in the inbox, it only happens when using the send to item in Excel. It only started doing this recently. Around that time the Antivirus (AVG Free) was upgraded to the latest version (from the previous version - 2010? - to version 2011), but this might not be related. I thought I know Excel really well but have never seen this happening before, and I can't find any setting in Excel or Outlook that is causing this. Any ideas?

  • Resize Win2003 system+boot partitions to bigger disks & different controller?

    Have an old Win2003 server with 1 SCSI hard drive partitioned as follows: D: boot (includes D:\ntldr, boot.ini, etc.) C: system (includes C:\WINDOWS) Want to move the whole system to new hardware with bigger drives and different controllers. Specifically, C: to a 300GB SAS drive, and D: to a 2TB SATA drive. Tried: VMWare Converter - VMWare Server - Diskpart Result: Diskpart refuses to resize system or boot disks VMWare Converter - VMWare Server - GParted Result: Will not boot (see http://serverfault.com/questions/219868/resize-ntfs-system-partitions-with-gparted ) Attach original VMWare disk to a duplicate VMWare install - Diskpart Result: Will not boot (goes to Directory Services Restore mode) Backup Exec System Recovery Server Edition 2010 with Restore Anywhere (tried restoring both to VMWare and to the bare system, without VMWare) Result: Windows Boot error: Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path. Supposedly this is a boot.ini problem, so I try bootcfg /rebuild from the recovery console. Says it can't find windows partition so it can't rebuild. Thought about Ghost but it's completely different hardware/controllers that we're restoring to, so I doubt it would boot. Reinstalling Windows from scratch is not an option due to critical custom software heavily embedded on the original machine. Has anyone been in a similar situation (with unusual boot/system partitions) before and figured out how to resize onto different disks?

  • Set up DPM to use hardware VSS Provider with EMC Clariion SAN

    We recently purchased an EMC Clariion AX4 SAN and we're using it to provide storage for our Hyper-V virtual machines. I've already got the servers registered with it and configured the failover cluster CSV's, etc. I'm wanting to figure out what I have to do to set up the VSS Provider for the SAN, so that Microsoft Data Protection Manager can use it to backup the virtual machines. I'm new when it comes to Clariion SAN's, so I have no idea how to set up the VSS provider. I downloaded something from Powerlink that was labeled VSS Provider and installed it on one of the machines connected to the SAN. It had something to do with a Solutions Enabler (I don't know what that is), but it doesn't really seem like it did anything. I read something that suggested I'd need to have Navisphere Manager to use the VSS Provider on the AX4, but we didn't purchase that - we're just using Navisphere Express. Can anyone help me figure out how to get the VSS Provider up and running?

  • Connecting jconsole using SOCKS to Amazon EC2

    I'm trying to use jconsole to view stats on an EC2 instance by using a socks proxy created by SSH. I then run jconsole -J-DsocksProxyHost=localhost -J-DsocksProxyPort=8123 service:jmx:rmi:///jndi/rmi://ec2-XX-XX-XXX-XXX.compute-1.amazonaws.com:8080/jmxrmi I run netstat -n on my EC2 instance and I see a connection created by my machine. However, the connection eventually disappears and I get a 'channel 2: open failed: connect failed: Operation timed out' from my ssh tunnel. I've opened the jmx port through the security group and I've checked the port on the EC2 instance to make sure it's open (by telnet-ing to it). I'm not sure where to look next. Are there some properties in sshd_config or ssh_config I need to enable for tunneling? Or anything in Mac OS X? I feel like a serious noob but sys administration is really not my strong point. I've spent several hours and can't get this to work.

    I need to configure sendmail so that mail delivered for wildcard addresses is accepted for delivery and then delivered to a user, alias, or directly to a script. I can rewrite the envelope/headers any number of ways, but I don't know how to accept the wildcard address when it's provided in RCPT TO: Everything I've tried so far winds up with a 550 user unknown error. So here's a specific example: I want to be able to handle any address that consists of a series of digits followed by a dot followed by a word, then pipe that to a script. If the headers get rewritten, that's OK, but I need the envelope to contain the actual Delivered-To address. Here's the sort of SMTP session I need: 220 blah.foo.com ESMTP server ready; Thu, 22 Apr 2010 20:41:08 -0700 (PDT) HELO blort.foo.com 250 blah.foo.com Hello blort.foo.com [10.1.2.3], pleased to meet you MAIL FROM: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.0 <[email protected]>...   • Stuttery 1080p playback on decent system

    We have a media center system that was recently built. It works well for all types of content, however it has issues with 1080p content. 720p plays fine. I have tried VLC, ffdshow and finally, CoreAVC. CoreAVC plays the best however it still eventually loses sync due to stutter - this does not happen on other systems with the same file. Specs: Asrock 4core-2dual sata PCI Express ATI 2400 HD 1.5GB DDR 2100 Intel Pentium E5300 120GB Maxtor Diamondmax PATA Any ideas?

  • Restoring Windows 2008 Server X86 and X64

    Restoring Windows 2008 Server (Domain Controller) We are using Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 to Image our DC. Now this software has a feature to convert the backup into a vmware or hyper-v VM I have also used disk2vhd to convert one of our dc's to a vhd and when I connected it into Hyper-V, it booted fine, I can login - BUT :-) As soon as I login, I get the activation error, that change product key, this product key isn't good for this machine etc. Question is : When in a real recovery situation, what would be the procedure to restore it either virtual or onto a physical box but be able to login and change product key etc ? In this scenario its just locked down and I cant' do anything, if this is the case, how would I replicate my production environment via these tools ? Any Ideas ? Will be grateful for some real world examples here. Same thing happens with our exchange backup / test restore either physical or virtual, can login but nothing else. Now we don't have the keys as they are OEM keys and just wondering what will happen in a real scenario, would we be purchasing another KEY or using the OEM key on our new server ? This is a test environment I am trying to create by restoring our backups either into hyper-v or physical test machines. Also, If I build up a machine (Server 2008) in a VM (Hyper-V), How can I restore just the system state backup of my DC into it ? will that give me the activation error too ? even though I would use the TRIAL ISOs provided by Microsoft ?     Does anyone know how to deploy a custom MBean to Tomcat? So far I`ve found this http://www.junlu.com/list/3/8871.html. I copied my jar with my MBean to Tomcat lib directory so the Custom class loader should pick it up. I then followed the instructions but I kept getting the exception below. My MBean does definitely have a public constructor.
