  Hello there, so here is my problem: I have several different configuarion servers. I have different calculations (jobs); I can predict how long approximately each job will take to be caclulated. Also, I have priorities. My question is how to keep all machines loaded 99-100% and schedule the jobs in the best way. Each machine can do several calculations at a time. Jobs are pushed to the machine. The central machine knows the current load of each machine. Also, I would like to to assign some kind of machine learning here, because I will know statistics of each job (started, finished, cpu load etc.). How can I distribute jobs (calculations) in the best possible way, keeping in mind the priorities? Any suggestions, ideas, or algorithms ? FYI: My platform .NET.

  How do I model having multiple Addresses for a Company and assign a single Address to a Contact? Contacts belong_to a Company. A Company has_many Contacts. A Company also has_many Addresses. And each Contact belongs_to an Address. How do I model this? I have Model/Contacts.rb belong_to :Company belong_to :Address (?) Model/Company.rb has_many :Contacts has_many :Addresses Address is an aggregation of :street1, :street2, :city, :state, :zip so not clear exactly what to do there. So what would I do in my _form so that when I have a contact/new I am able to either default to a main address or select one of the others? If none of them match, adding for a Contact makes that address available to any subsequent contact?

  1)A user can have many causes and a cause can belong to many users. 2)A user can have many campaigns and campaigns can belong to many users. Campaigns belong to one cause. I want to be able to assign causes or campaigns to a given user, individually. So a user can be assigned a specific campaign. OR a user could be assigned a cause and all of the campaigns of that cause should then be associated with a user. Is that possible? And could I set it up so that the relationships could be simplified like so: User.causes = all causes that belong to a user User.campaigns = all campaigns that belong to user whether through a cause association or campaign association

• Error Instantiating an Inner Class in Parent's Constructor...

  In my application's main class (subclass of Application), I have a public inner class that simply contains 3 public string objects. In the parent class I declare an object of that inner class. public class MainApplication extends Application { public class Data { public String x; public String y; public String z; } private Data data; MainApplication() { data = new Data() data.x = "String"; } } After I instantiate the object in the constructor, I get a runtime error when I try to assign any of the inner class object's variables. Any idea what's up here??

  I'm confused why this compiles: private delegate int MyDelegate(int p1, int p2); private void testDelegate() { MyDelegate imp = delegate { return 1; }; } MyDelegate should be a pointer to a method that takes two int parameters and returns another int, right? Why am I allowed to assign a method that takes no parameters? Interestingly, these doesn't compile (it complains about the signature mismatches, as I'd expect) private void testDelegate() { // Missing param MyDelegate imp = delegate(int p1) { return 1; }; // Wrong return type MyDelegate imp2 = delegate(int p1, int p2) { return "String"; }; } Thanks for any help! • Error message when trying to insert method into touchesBegan

  I am trying to create a new method within my TapDetectingImageView file and it's giving me a warning that it cannot find the method even though I have it declared in the .h file. The specific three warnings all point to the @end line in the .m file when I build it and they say: "Incomplete implementation of class 'TapDetectingImageView' ; 'Method definition for '-functionA:' not found" ; "Method definition for '-functionB:' not found" What am I missing? Am I not allowed to do this in a protocol file like TapDetectingImageView? • Creating controls in ASP with dynamic IDs

  Hi, I'm creating a chat widget that will be dropped into CommunityServer. The widget works great, but I just discovered that if I drop two of these widgets onto the same page, only one of them works! And I'm quite certain the reason is because the chat window is defined in ASP, and now there are two instances of the chat window, with the same ID, on the same page. I am doing this with straight ASP & Javascript (not by choice), so my chat window is defined as: <telerik:RadListBox ID="rlbMessages" runat="server" > (don't mind that it's a telerik control). So I was hoping I could do something like this: <telerik:RadListBox ID="<%= 'rlbMessages' + chatRoomID %>" runat="server" > But from what I've gathered, apparently you can't assign ID's this way? What is the alternative?

• Prolog .. Can i convert from a list of chars to a string or term in Prolog !!

  i use read_line_to_codes(Stream,Line) to read a line from a file .. first is there any way to read a line and assign it to a term in prolog ?? if not i managed to read a line and put it in this char list .. now this char list contains spaces .. which is bad .. so i want to convert it to a term or a string in prolog so that i can process it easier .. spaces cannot be atoms so thats a problem .. i appreciate the help !!

  I want to load data to an instance of an object using its constructor and I write $this->property=$row["colname"] each time for each property. the mysql_fetch_object function fetches the data as an object but I am not sure if the instance of an object can be assigned to some object from inside. othwerwise I would use __construct($object) { $this=$object; } //doesn't give any syntax error Maybe I should look into iteration of properties and use foreach($object as $key => $value) $value=$object[$key]; or can I assign like $this=$object; within the constructor?

  When i write something like this: <Style x:Key="panelS"> <Setter Property="Orientation" Value="Horizontal" /> <Setter Property="DockPanel.Dock" Value="Top" /> </Style> I get the error that says: Cannot resolve the Style Property 'Orientation'. Verify that the owning type is the Style's TargetType, or use Class.Property syntax to specify the Property. Sure i have a Dock panel with many Stackpanels in it so i want to move Stackpanel's properties to the style. But there is this error and i dont quite understand what it means and what is the workaround(..i'd wanted not to assign Orientation on every Stackpanel).

• iPhone tableview: titleForHeaderInSection derived from array

  I have a tableview that is populated by an array. Currently the tableview has no grouping. What I would like to do is check a value of each array object, such as State, and group all the CA items together, all the OR items together, etc. Then, assign those groups a title. The array is dynamic, and will grow and get new values in the future, so I can't hardcode titles, I would like these to somehow come from my initial array. Currently I am using the following, but it does not take into account sorting of the array, or if I removed all of the items in the array that have to do with California. - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section == 0) { return @"California"; } else if (section == 1) { return @"Washington"; } else { return @"Utah"; } }//end tableView So, I am confusing myself as to how this would be possible. • P-invoke call fails if too much memory is assigned beforehand

  I've got a p-invoke call to an unmanaged DLL that was failing in my WPF app but not in a simple, starter WPF app. I tried to figure out what the problem was but eventually came to the conclusion that if I assign too much memory before making the call, the call fails. I had two separate blocks of code, both of which would succeed on their own, but that would cause failure if both were run. (They had nothing to do with what the p-invoke call is trying to do). What kind of issues in the unmanaged library would cause such an issue? I thought that the managed and unmanaged heaps were supposed to be automatically separated. The crash as far as I can tell is happening in a dynamically loaded secondary DLL from the one p-invoked into. Could that have something to do with it?

• starting .net application from command prompt is having issue when path is in SHORTNAME

  when we start our .net application using a double click on the explorer or from command prompt where your folder path is proper full name then there is no issue at all. But when you start it from command prompt with the path being a Shortname involving a ~ the application behaves weird. IF is entering condition though the condition evaluates to FALSE in quick watch. Accessing a value of a variable in quick watch and immediate window shows value. but when you use it to assign to another variable in code, it returns NULL / no value. another observation: when you attach Visual studio to debug the app, and when you go about "Set as next statement" visual studio is giving options to select which dll to work up on. i have never seen this prompt before!

• Network message serialization for game

  Exit-games make a network library product called photon, and they have and actively develop a limited mmo demo. Rather than shooting off json or XML, etc. saying "MovePlayer" (with associated params), they nut that message down to a 2 digit int, via an enum - something like Operations.MovePlayer. There's no denying that a 2 digit int is smaller than a longer string, however I really hate the idea of statically burning each and every message into an enum. Would there be an alternative way to have a MessageID property assign itself a unique 2 digit int based on a lookup table or something? Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing before?

In my first case where I didn't assign a value to x, does the compiler implicitly know that x is to be set to zero as it's a static variable? I heard that we can do this with static variables. • Is there any way to use GUIDs in django?

  I have a couple of tables that are joined by GUIDs in SQL Server. Now, I've found a few custom fields to add support for GUIDs in django, but I tend to shy away from using code in blog posts if at all possible. I'm not going to do anything with the GUID other than join on it and maybe assign a GUID on new entries (although this is optional). Is there any way to allow this using django's built-in types? Like can I use some kind of char field or binary field and "trick" django into joining using it? If it's any help, I'm using django-pyodbc.

  In my Cocoa application, in the header file, I declare a NSString ivar: NSString *gSdkPath; Then, in awakeFromNib, I assign it to a value: gSdkPath = @"hello"; Later, it's value is changed in the code: gSdkPath = [NSString stringWithString:[folderNames objectAtIndex:0]]; (the object returned from objectAtIndex is an NSString) However, after this point, in another method when I try to NSLog() (or do anything with) the gSdkPath variable, the app crashes. I'm sure this has something to do with memory management, but I'm beginning with Cocoa and not sure exactly how this all works. Thanks for any help in advance.
