  • Upgrade to 11.10 left me with Kmail not working

    On my way from 10.10 to 12.04 I chose to do the step by step (11.04 then 11.10 then 12.04) because I could not figure if I should do that or a direct install of 12.04LTS. After the first step (11.04) all was well. The next day I upgraded to 11.10. Now I seem to have lost my data in KOrganizer and all of my email history in KMail. KMail still has my email accounts but my tree structure of folders is missing as is all of the emails that should be there. Also, when KMail opens I get the following: KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection. Clicking OK closes KMail. KAlarm appears OK and my browser history is still in place as are various data files. What to do??

  • Missing shared library for Rhythmbox

    After I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 my rhythmbox wouldn't work. After many failed attempts I ended up uninstalling and removing all traces of rhythmbox I could find. Now I've reinstalled rhythmbox, and am getting the error rhythmbox: error while loading shared libraries: librhythmbox-core.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've tried sudo apt-get install librhythmbox* Only to get Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Note, selecting 'librhythmbox-core5' for regex 'librhythmbox*' Note, selecting 'librhythmbox-core6' for regex 'librhythmbox*' Note, selecting 'librhythmbox-core7' for regex 'librhythmbox*' librhythmbox-core7 is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded. Any ideas on how to get rhythmbox back to a working state?

    As a semester project, I have the following specification: Write a simple single threaded ftp server. The ftp server is configurable from a configuration file. The config allows to set the interface (where the server listens), the roots of the served content, transfer log, and database of users and its passwords. The server allows to create a virtual filesystem. By a virtual filesystem, we mean a mapping of a served directory to the real directory on the filesystem. For example, the client tree will look like: /home/user1 maps to /mnt/x/home/user1 /www maps to /var/cache/www /home/user_list.txt maps to /var/ftpclient/user_list.txt The user will see /home/user1 directory and /www directory and the file /home/user_list.txt The course is in C++. The projects to this point have provided a lot of structure, such as a class header file to get you started on the program. My question is this: how can I get started on what seems like quite a massive project (I have 3 weeks to return a working implementation)?

  • Unable to upgrade 11.04 to 11.10

    I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed in my laptop and tried to upgrade it by opening the update manager and and making the necessary settings in settings - updates - release upgrade - normal releases and then hitting the check button. But nothing appeared indicating later version is available to be upgraded. When I run the following sudo apt-get dist-upgrade below is the result that appeared. Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Also I am unable to watch YouTube videos in the Firefox 15.0 in my Ubuntu 11.04.

  • Designing a hierarchical structure with lots of reads and writes?

    I am in the process of working on a video on demand system part of it involves the management of a hierarchical tree structure (think windows explorer) which allows users to upload videos, move folders around, create new folders etc. User action will be allowed depending on which permissions they have. In addition to managing the structure (creating folders and uploading videos), subscribers will be viewing content (read access). The number of reads will be significantly more than the writes. My question (and it is big one) is should I store the data in a database (for the writes) and also have some sort of cache which will be used for the reads? or do I use two databases? or is there a better solution? Also I will have to resolve concurrency issues which I think optimistic locking on the database will resolve. I have a fair bit about CQRS over the last few months but not sure if this is the way to go. Any ideas?

  • Is it possible to use the Raring install image as a package repo (like the old alternate CD)?

    I use Kubuntu and recently upgraded to Raring directly from Precise. Until Precise, I always installed the OS using the alternate CD and not the desktop CD, because I could later on mount the image and use it as an offline package repo. For instance if I remove a package installed by the default installer and later I want to install it again, I can just install it from the ISO without needing to download it again. However, since Quantal the alternate CD no longer exists, so I am not sure how to set up the installed image as a local repo. I mean, doing find . -name "*.deb" inside the ISO tree after loopmounting it only shows a few packages like libc6 gcc and such and not the full set of packages that are actually installed -- I presume they are included in pre-installed form inside casper/filesystem.squashfs. Given this situation, is it or is it not possible to use the Raring install images as offline repos? If yes, how? Thank you!

  • TSQL Cascade delete for child records?

    I have a parent/child table (simple tree) table structure (ID, ParentID), where I want to delete (and get the ID of) all children for a given parent ID - similar to this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1433808/sql-server-cascade-delete-and-parent-child-table . During the loop, where I've got the current ID, I will also be performing other actions with this ID. Can someone give me an example of the SPROC to accomplish this? Thanks

  • WPF TreeView - How to scroll so expanded branch is visible

    When I expand items in my treeview so that scrolling is necessary, a scrollbar appears. However, it doesn't scroll down for the newly expanded branch of items - they get cropped by the bottom of the control. So as I continue expanding items at the bottom of the tree, I have to keep manually scrolling down to see the new children. Anyone have a suggestion for how make it automatically scroll to show the newly expanded items?

    OK have just started getting this error and I'm not sure why. I have a hosting page which has listview and a panel with a usercontrol. The listview loads up records with a linkbutton. You click the link button to edit that particular record - which gets loaded up in the formview (within the usercontrol) which goes to edit mode. After an update occurs in the formview I'm triggering an event which my hosting page is listening for. The hosting page then rebinds the listview to show the updated data.     I'm trying to find the best (efficient) way of doing this. I have a medium sized XML document. Depending on specific settings certain portions of it need to be filtered out for security reasons. I'll be doing this in XSLT as it's configurable and no code should need changing. I've looked around, but not getting much luck on it. For example: I have the following XPath: //*[@root='2.16.840.1.113883.3.51.1.1.6.1'] Whicrooth gives me all nodes with a root attribute equal to a specific OID. In these nodes I want to have all attributes except for a few (ex. foo and bar) erased, and then having another attribute added (ex. reason) I also need to have multiple XPath expressions that can be ran to zero down on a specific node and clear it's contents out in a similar fashion, with respect to nodes with specific attributes. I'm playing around with information from: XPath expression to select all XML child nodes except a specific list? and XSLT Remove Elements and/or Attributes by Name per XSL Parameters Will update shortly when I can have access what what I"ve done so far. But how do I use document.activeElement to detect changes to focus (or maybe I don't and I need to research a better way. Want to know if I am barking up the wrong tree).
