• Bluetooth device paired and connected (no sound)

  I've got a Bluetooth headset which works great in both Windows 8 and Android 4.2 however on Ubuntu (13.10) it just doesn't seem to work. I installed Blueman, it paired and connected successfully when I tried Audio sink but it still doesn't show up in my Sound Settings nor PulseAudio which I installed and tried. All there is in my Sound Settings is "Analog Output". I tried several fix like changing and adding things in /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf without any success. I've restarted the bluetooth service several times in the process as well. Let me know if you need more information from me and my system. Kind regards, Michael.

• how do I fix ati driver issue

  I have little knowledge about ubuntu, but I am learning. Recently, my ubuntu 12.04 required that I update. I noticed that it was updating xorg and other things, after the update I was asked to reboot. I did. now when I start that computer up, it cannot detect any display and refuses to boot from usb. I have no idea how to recover my computer. It simply starts in what is akin to the terminal program and ask for my username and password. After that, I can enter commands. The problem may be because I manually installed drivers by copy pasting from some instructional that I now have no idea where they are, but what it amounts to is that I "built" the drivers. They were working GREAT until this update. I did this because otherwise I was unable to have sound through my hdmi. After I hand built the drivers, they worked great. After this update Ka-blam! nothing... Also, I had okay-ed lots of update sources (though all of them [xorg and such] were the stable versions, not the unstable update sources) Please help and thank you in advance. (if this is posted incorrectly or misplace, please let me know what to do)

• dell latitude XT touch screen issue

  yesterday I installed windows 7 ultimate after I had the enterprise version on this machine for a few months. the installation went smoothly and everything worked fine except for the finger detection of the screen(only the pen worked) and the bottom screen buttons for rotating and so. so I started to install all the missing drivers dell recommends for this model on their site, but once I tried to install N-Trig degitizer driver the installation said it was unsuccessful and since then the touch stopped working completely! I tried system restore but it didn't help so I went on and formatted the harddisk completely once again and installed windows but that didn't work either. I tried to install the N-Trig's driver but it was alarting for a fatal error and said that no device was detected. same story with N-Trig rollback. so I checked the device manager and saw an "unknown device" with VID and PID values set as 0000. I figured the N-Trig driver might have messed with the device firmware or something and now it doesnt know it's ID and munufactor... Is there anything that can be done? like forcing the N-Trig driver to install on this device or something? please help!

• Bluetooth broadcasting realtime - is it possible

  Is it possible to broadcast data via bluetooth to one ore more connected devices? I mean that each phone will be master and slave at the same time and each phone will broadcast data that should be received by all other phones. Or is the only possibility to use a "client-server"-like topology; one phone acts as a server and listens to all clients and then sends data from each client to the rest of clients in the network? Which variant should be more effective? If broadcasting is possible then the same implementation can be used for all devices and if one device will die communication between rest of network can continue. And also will there be enough to send one message per device - not message from each device to server and then back to all devices. Am I right?

• Mobile development, recommended computer configuration?

  Hi, For the last 4 weeks, I have been trying to get into mobile development. Done a couple of tutorials, read some books, developed a couple of dummy Android apps. The thing is my computer is a 5 years old laptop, it is slow and time has come to replace it and I’m looking at different offers online. Have you got any recommendations? Is there any must-have that should make my developer life easier in the future? Is there anything specific that may be useful at a more advanced stage of development that I just can’t think of right now on the hardware side? (I mean apart from good proc, lots of RAM, many USB ports...) One thing I can think of is to have three OS on the same workstation: Windows, Unix and MacOS (so far I focused on android/java/eclipse but am interested in Iphone/objC/xcode as well) but that’s more on the software side. Anyway, would be grateful for any recommendations. Thanks in advance! Mikael PS: I’m quite free on the budget side of things PPS: I'm aware it's not really a programming question but will still be of interest to some programmers here.

• 8 Character Device names

  Is there any reason to still use only 8 characters in a device name? My boss still uses this rule for printers, computers, routers, servers... basicly any device connected to our network. This leads to massive confusion among users, especially when it comes to printer. It also leads to confusion from an administration standpoint because every device is named vaguely, and similarly(its only 8 characters!). I understand the history behind this and compatibility with older systems, but none of our legacy systems will ever make use of PS-printers and Wifi networks. Is there any reason to still do this, and what is everyone else doing when it comes to naming network devices at an enterprise level?

• Strange behavior of USB HID device

  I have a device with ARM that work as USB HID. It working well on Windows XP x32 sp 2 and sp 3 (USB 2.0, many PCs), on Windows 7 x32 Ultimate (USB 2.0, Lenovo and HP laptops) but do not work on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium sp1 — plugged and unplugged frequently in USB 2.0 with baloon with "unknown device" in system tray and works not well in USB 3.0 port (MSI all-in-one PC), not all programs can detect it. What can cause this problem? Update. I connected my device via USB hub and everything works fine with it.

  Our company wants to create a single department for all software development efforts (rather than having software development managed by each business unit). Business units would then "outsource" their software needs to this department. What would you setup as concerns/expectations that must be cleared before doing this? For example: Need agreement between units on how much actual time (FTE) is allocated to each unit Need agreement on scheduling of staff need agreement on request procedure if extra time is required by one party etc... Have you been in a situation like this as a manager of one unit destined to use this? If so, what were problems you experienced? What would you have or did implement? Same if you were the manager of the shared team. Please assume, for discussion, that the people concerned know that you can't swap devs in and out on a whim. I don't want to know the disadvantages of this approach; I know them. I want to anticipate issues and know how to mitigate the fallout.

• Unknown device error installing Lexmark printer in Vista

  I have been using Lexmark X3650 All-In-One on my Windows Vista Desktop PC for a year without problem. Yesterday, I was prompted to plug in the USB from the printer and after that I got errors: "The USB device has malfunctioned." ,"The unknown device has been installed unsuccessfully.". Then, the printer just stoped responding. I have uninstalled the driver from Device Manager and software (using Lexmark's clean utility), rebooted, reinstalled, same thing, tried different ports/cable. Vista displays these two errors stated above immediately upon plug in. Please help me!

• Usb boot device totally unable to be formatted

  I'm really upset by now, I've been trying 2hours straight to format a stupid usb drive (I'm new to ubuntu and I dont know if I will last long at this rate) Basically this was the lubuntu boot usb key I tried to remove files with sudo rm I tried to format disk with disk utility I tried to format disk with gparted (with unmounting beforehand) NOTHING WORKS. I cant delete a file. I cant move a file to the usb key. I cant do anything. This is really infuriating.. I dont know what to do ? here are some gparted errors while trying to format to fat32 after unmounting error fsyncing/closing/dev/sdb: input/output error input/output error during write on /dev/sdb when I try to remove by hand, it says "read-only file"

• Why doesn't my Nvidia driver support 1280*1024?

  EDIT: I think the problem is in the NVIDIA x server, that doesn't support an RGB screen from 1990. The screen was the best of them all when it was released. This a strange thing! In windows the EDID must work because 1280*1024 is used as max resolution, but in ubuntu those stuff aren't being received, so how do I tell ubuntu/nivida to find those EDID stuff? Hi, I have an external monitor which is an 20" 1280*1024. In windows 7 it works fine with that resolution but in ubuntu it can't. The screens model name is IntelliColor Display/20 and the name of the company is "radius".recived Well, twin view is working but the only maximum resolution is 1024*768. I'm using nividas x server program.   I just recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop and am keeping windows 7 as a back up for when I get stuck like now..... After I installed Ubuntu I got on line and was reading about some of the things to do after Installing for the first time. One of them was looking for additional drivers witch I did and found two display drivers. Both drivers were from Ubuntu. However after install and a reboot I can't see any of my menu bars.....no app bar on the side.....no bar at the top of the display...nothing. I did have a file on the desktop that I was able to open. And I just learned that ctrl+alt+T gets me a form of command prompt. this worked but I don't know how to use it. How do I get my menu bars back?? is there a way to uninstall the drivers? I am really new to Ubuntu and like it so far but am having problems getting over the learning curve.

• ALSA Mutes Incorrect Audio Device on Headphone Event

  I know what the problem is, I just don't know how to prevent it. When I plug in my headphones, ALSA automatically mutes (and sets the volume to 0) the 'Speaker' entry in alsamixer. If I go in and manually unmute (and turn the volume up) I have sound from my headphones. Question is, how do I change this behavior? I want it to adjust the volume to half, but not mute or set the volume to 0. • Ubuntu 12.04 terminal only after nvidia driver upgrade

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 (after getting tired of Windows). Installation went fine. I had one problem when I got in suspend mode and then resumed my screen was scrambled. After some googling founds some tips to upgrade my nvidia drivers. I did this, and rebooted but only a terminal windows appears now instead of a graphical desktop. Tried to fix it by several reboots, and removing xorg.conf, but still no luck. Any advice how to fix it and get my desktop back ?

My client wants to deploy this app on Mac OS X, Windows, Android and iOS. LiveCode - Still inmature (lots of bugs) and I don´t know if it is possible to write native plugins for my device. Is there any other good platform for my case? What´s your option?

  We are a distributed team spread across 5 locations. We have a shared drive (1 TB data) at our former location that we are currently accessing via Hamachi VPN. Our shared drive is a network folder on a Windows Server located at one of our locations. The current connection speed is terrible. The upload speed at the current location of the shared drive is very slow. We looking for a NAS device that we can host at another location with better upload speed that all of us can access. I am looking for a NAS device that has these features: Minimal Maintenance as we do not have dedicated IT resources Access data on the device from multiple locations. Ability to create network drive (On Windows Computers Map Network Drive) Upload data from random client computers without having to install software. • Installing NVIDIA driver causes black screen (750M)

  I have a dual boot set up on a Lenovo Ideapad Y500 with NVIDIA 750M and I am having problems installing the graphics cards. I have made sure to install both linux-headers-generic and linux-source, and yet have ended up with a black screen whether I install nvidia-current, nvidia-current-updates, nvidia-experimental-310, and nvidia-319. I even tried enabling proprietary drivers through settings and still ended up with a black screen on boot. Is my graphics card just not supported yet, or is there a way to fix this?

• Linux (lsusb) not showing String Descriptors of a USB device

  I have an embedded device that when plugged to a linux host, shows up with vid and pid that are not in the usb.ids file (proprietary IDs). However I provide String Descriptors that do show up when plugged into a Windows Host. But not on a Linux Host. lsusb -v shows only iManufacturer 3 iProduct 2 iSerial 1 But on the device side, when processing the setup requests, I see that the Strings are actually requested by the Host. By Windows and also the Linux Host. The USB Device Tree Viewwer under Windows shows this output: iManufacturer : 0x01 Language 0x0409 : "My Manufacturer" iProduct : 0x02 Language 0x0409 : "MyProduct" iSerialNumber : 0x03 Language 0x0409 : "My Serial" I feel that lsusb does not show all of the information. Is there a more informative tool?
