• Add bookmarks to Delicious and Google Bookmarks at the same time

  I have used delicious.com (or back then, del.icio.us) to store my bookmarks for a long time now, and I love it. I was looking through some of my Google services, and realized they have a bookmarking service that integrates with your Google searches (I thought they had a bookmarking service before, but it went away? Maybe not). I like delicious just fine - I'm not interested in leaving. But I also like how my Google bookmarks are highlighted (and I'm guessing, brought to the top) in my search results so I can easily tell if I've bookmarked a site (kind of like the "promote up" feature). I can't even count the number of times I search for a site only to find I've been there months or years ago. If sites I've bookmarked in the past are highlighted in my search results, it makes it easier to pick which search result to go to. My question is around bookmarking tools: Is there a bookmarklet or Firefox addon that will let me save a bookmark to multiple services at the same time, in this case, Google and Delicious? Or maybe a service to sync my delicious bookmarks to Google bookmarks on a regular basis? I have used the Delicious addon since the beginning - it would just be nice to add a bookmark to multiple services with 1 addon. For that matter, it would be nice to add Evernote into the mix - click 1 button to save the page to Evernote, and bookmark the page in Google and delicious. EDIT on 7/30/2009 - Summary: A proposed solution is to use the Delicious addon and the GMarks addon to keep the 2 services in sync. I was not able to get the 2 addons to keep everything in sync, so it was also suggest to use the Google Toolbar with the Delicious addon to keep everything in sync. I personally have reservations with letting Google know about every single site I visit, I believe this solution will work, so I am accepting it as the answer. I still wish there was a solution that would let you post a bookmark/page to multiple services at the same time (delicious, google, evernote, digg, diigo, etc.). Thanks!

• Problems setting NTP sever with w32tm for a DC that is a Hyper-V guest

  Hello ! I have tried to sett my DC to get its time from several NTP severs. I follow this answer (http://serverfault.com/questions/24298/w32time-sync-problems-for-hyper-v-guests-w32time-event-ids-38-24-29-35/24299#24299) to do it. First I disable Time Synchronization in the Hyper-V Integration Services for each guest. Then restart the Windows Time serviceon the guest. I had before this used this command: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"ntp.uio.no;timekeeper. uio.no;nissen.uio.no;0.no.pool.ntp.org;1.no.pool.ntp.org;2.no.pool.ntp.org" /syn cfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update And the cmd sad: The command completed successfully. But the time was still 10 min wrong... I run w32tm again after restarted the DC without it having any effect. • Why don't web fonts in Firefox work on a different domain?

  I was experimenting with the fancy new OpenType font capability in Firefox 3.5 and I ran into a problem. I was trying to embed a font on a different domain than the page it would be used on, and it didn't work. I thought it may have been a bug, but from what I read on the MDC reference page, I noticed this note: In Gecko, web fonts are subject to the same domain restriction (font files must be on the same domain as the page using them), unless HTTP access controls are used to relax this restriction. It looks like they designed the browser that way on purpose. Out of curiosity, why would they do that? Is there any security risk with embedding a font? Or is it for legal trademark or copyright issues? Or something else?

• jQuery UI sortable issue with helper Y offset value being same as scroll offset on FireFox only

  I have a problem with a jQuery UI 1.7.2 sortable list in Firefox, IE7-8 work fine. When I'm scrolled down a bit, the helper element seems to have an offset of the same height that I'm scrolled down from the mouse pointer which makes it impossible to see which item you originally started dragging. How do I fix this or work around the issue? If there is no fix what is a really good alternative drag-able plugin? • client-server syncing methodology [theoretical]

  I'm in the progress of building an web-app that syncs with an iOS client. I'm currently tackling trying to figure out how to go about about syncing. I've come up with following two directions: I've got a fairly simple server web-app with a list of items. They are ordered by date modified and as such syncing the order does not matter. One direction I'm considering is to let the client deal with syncing. I've already got an API that lets the client get the data, as well as do certain actions on it, such as update, add or remove single items. I was considering: 1) on each sync asking the server for all items modified since the last successful sync and updating the local records based on what's returned by the server, and 2) building a persistent queue of create / remove / update requests on the client, and keeping them until confirmation by the server. The risk with this approach is that I'm basically asking each side to send changes to the other side, hoping it works smoothly, but risking a diversion at some point. This would probably be more bandwidth-efficient, though. The other direction I was considering was a more traditional model. I would have a "sync" process in which the client would send its whole list to the server (or a subset since last modified sync), the server would update the data on the server (by fixing conflicts by keeping the last modified item, and keeping deleted items with a deleted = 1 field), and the server would return an updated list of items (since last successful sync) which the client would then replace its data with. Thoughts?

• How do I troubleshoot a problem syncing Google contacts to an iPad?

  I use my MacBook Pro to sync content onto my wife's iPad. (She doesn't have a computer.) She doesn't want all my contacts from the Address Book app on my MBP. But she does want her Google contacts on her iPad. I've tried the following settings in iTunes: I created a group in my address book called "Claire's" (and put just a couple contacts in it), since if one enables "Sync Address Book Contacts" one either has to select "All" or at least one group. I've double-checked her email address in the dialog that comes up after pressing the "Configure" button. But after syncing, only the couple contacts in the "Claire's" group are in the Contacts app on her iPad. I've checked her Google contacts, and she has over 2000. For some reason they're not syncing. How do I find out why they're not? I looked to see if I could just use an app to do the sync on the iPad, but couldn't find one with good ratings. Do you have one to recommend so I can give up struggling with getting this working in iTunes?

• jPlayer problem in Firefox - also throws error from jQuery?! Not related to OGG support.

  I've been working on a small SVG website, http://docroot.ca/ - the SVG part has been working out pretty well. In the current site, jPlayer is called and given an mp3. jPlayer functions properly in Safari, Chrome, and Opera, but not Firefox which throws the following two errors: Error: not well-formed Source File: Line: 1, Column: 191 Source Code: <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><embed name="jqjp_flash_0" id="jqjp_flash_0" src="js/Jplayer.swf" width="0" height="0" bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="high" FlashVars="id=jPlayerBox&fid=jqjp_flash_0&vol=80" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></ and: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... • Flex 3 - Send a HTTP Get request from Flash and want Firefox to show Open With Box.

  Hi all, I am a newb developer as far as Flex and Flash is concerned. This is what I'm trying to do: 1) Send a HTTP request to our server (with a custom made URL). The URL basically tells the server to send data in a CSV format. 2) The server sends a 200 OK response, which has Content-Type: application/csv and the payload is pure CSV data. What I wish to do is, when firefox gets this 200 OK response, I want it to show the standard Open with box (the one that shows up when you download some file). I tried doing this with HTTPService. I have a "Export to CSV" button on the flash component. Upon clicking that, the flash component is able to succesfully send the HTTP request. I however don't want Flash component to handle the response, so I don't have the 's "result" tag defined. But nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to do this.

• Offline productivity

  On some days I'm commuting 2hs (oneway) in the train. I don't have any mobile internet nor is there always WiFi service in the train. Because of security reasons I can't do any work in the train so I'm trying to work on my geek time. I'm looking for general solutions on how to do this (I'm on FireFox/Windows but I don't think it matters) Email works perfectly with gmail offline. It syncs directly when online and remembers complicated stuff. So far I used the ScrapBook plugin to store an website. It works good, but I have to download my favorite news page every day again - I want it to sync as soon as possible. It would even be more awesome if I could click a page on my desktop and my laptop would sync as soon as it has the chance. (edit: maybe the autosave plugin for scrapbook can do this) Similarily, I use the Downloadhelper plugin to download youtube vids, but I'd like something that automatically downloads videos from a given channel. Any tips are welcome. So far my early morning schedule is: wake up, power on laptop, make coffee, power off laptop and leave within 10 minutes (enough time for GMail to sync) but I can imagine a system where my laptop stays on during the night (or boots before I wake (and makes me coffee :])).

  I have a website using cPanel on a dedicated account, I would like to be able to automatically sync the website to a second hosting company or perhaps to a local (in house ) server. Basically this is a type of replication. The website is database driven (MySQL), so Ideally it would sync everything (content, database, emails etc.) , but most importantly is syncing the website files and its database. I'm not so much looking for a fail-over solution as an automatic replication solution, so if the primary site (Server) goes off-line, I can manually bring up the replicated site quickly. I'm familiar with tools like unison and rsync, but most of these only sync file(s) and do not do too well with open database connections.

• How to delete a podcast from an iPod and not have it reappear after syncing with iTunes?

  Hi everyone, Say I have subscribe to a single podcast and I have Episode 1 and Episode 2 on my iPod. Each episode is 30 minutes long. I listen to the entirety of Episode 1 and just the first 15 minutes of Episode 2. I delete Episode 1 using my iPod's menu. Say Episode 3 has just come out. I want to be able to sync with iTunes, and after doing so, have just Episodes 2 and 3 on my iPod (with Episode 2 "half listened to"). How can I do this? Ideal state... Episode 1 = deleted Episode 2 = 15 minutes played already Episode 3 = unplayed I've found that if I set the Sync Podcast option in iTunes to "all new", I get: "All new" Episode 1 = not on the iPod Episode 2 = not on the iPod Episode 3 = unplayed and if I set the Sync Podcast option in iTunes to "all unplayed" "All unplayed" Episode 1 = unplayed Episode 2 = 15 minutes played already Episode 3 = unplayedv neither option does what I want. Is there an option to get my "ideal state"?

  Since I upgraded to jQuery 1.4.4 I've been getting several new warning messages when I run my unit tests in Firefox 3.6.13. Here's a typical one: Warning: Unexpected token in attribute selector: '!'. Source File: http://localhost/unitTests/devunitTests.html Line: 0 Or the even more useful: Warning: Selector expected. Source File: http://localhost/unitTests/ui/editors/iframe2.html?test=15 Line: 0 The web page renders nicely, and all my JavaScript code seems to be running okay too, so I'm reluctant to spend a potentially large amount of time chopping away at my code to track these messages down. However, can anyone suggest what's provoking the warnings?

  Hi! I've developed a plug-in for Firefox, that can read and manipulate the content of the currently opened document. I would like to apply a XLST to the document in case it is XML. I have no problem to read the XML document and apply a XSLT to it in memory, however, I have no idea of how to replace the existing document with the newly created one. Thus, I see two possible scenarios: a) I replace the document with the result of the transformation b) I apply the XSLT directly to the XML All my attempts to realize one of both possible solutions have failed...   I've got a serverside app that send down a custom mime-type file "application/x-optibase". Firefox prompt user user to save or open the file and if the user clicks open the correct application launches so I believe I have mimeType.rdf configured correctly I've gone into about:config and set browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile to application/x-optibase and browser.helpApps.alwaysAsk.force to false According to the minimal documentation out there this should enable the application to automatically open when the user downloads the file but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

• How can I avoid causing memory leaks in Firefox?

  It seems that there is a lot of information on memory leaks in IE and how web developers can avoid them, but I can't find much on avoiding leaks in FF. I've found lots of random tips on how end users can tweak their preferences, or tips for extension developers, but little on what I can do as a web developer to make sure my pages don't leak. Am I missing something? It seems lazy to just blame it on the user and say "you've got too many extensions". Or are the major patterns the same as in IE -- circular references and all that? Also, if anyone knows of any tools to troubleshoot leaks in FF, that would be great. • My website crashes Firefox. What do I do?

  My website doesn't use Flash or any plugins; just javascript (jQuery, Google Maps). It doesn't crash FF 3.6 all the time, but it usually does after a few minutes. It can happen on lots of different pages. Sometimes it crashes when I'm scrolling the page, sometimes when I'm interacting with a control. Where do I even start debugging? Should I go through the hassle of attaching gdb to Firefox and getting a stack trace, then praying that it sheds some light on the offending code?

• Can an application on the user's computer be started from a Firefox Extension?

  For example, can I start an instance of "Calculator.exe" on the user's computer (if it is available of course) upon some particular event in firefox, say clicking of a button? I thought of perhaps linking the extension to Python's subprocess method using XPCOM. But I was wondering whether there is an easier way. Additional information: I do not, at this point need to interact with the application upon its instantiation. Therefore I am looking for a way to open an application that's all.   Hello. I'm writing a plugin to Firefox, which is basically a sidebar, that is filled with yaml-formatted information based on what user does on the page (just another web testing solution). I want to enable user to change generated text manually right in the sidebar and: Add code-folding (folding click: \n text: some text to a single line) Add highlighting of registered actions (click, fill and so on) and unregistered actions (syntax errors) How do I do that? Is placing an iframe to the sidebar and trying to do that with html/js the best solution (seen it in a similar one)? As you may have noticed, I'm a newbie in plugin writing, so please excuse if anything.

• QuickTime movie disappearing from Javascript when scrolled offscreen in Firefox?

  I have a web page I'm creating that uses Javascript to control an embedded QuickTime player. I add the QuickTime movie to the page using the AC_QuickTime.js file from Apple (as described here - http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/QuickTime/Conceptual/QTScripting_HTML/QTScripting_HTML_Document/ScriptingHTML.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40001525-2-SW1 ). Everything seems to be working fine - I can call methods on the QuickTime movie and control its playback (as well as get the current timestamp). The problem is that in Firefox, when I scroll down such that the QuickTime player is no longer visible, I get the following error every time I try to call a method on the QuickTime movie: Error calling method on NPObject! This does not occur in Safari. Why is this happening, and is there any way to work around this?
