• Do I need the meta-key for vim?

  I'm looking in to learning emacs or vim. I started out with emacs but found the need for a meta key to be a hassle, especially since I have a non-english keyboard layout on my macbook. So far I haven't seen any references to meta in vim, so my question is: Can I live without meta in vim? If so that'll settle the vim vs. emacs question for me, otherwise I'll just have to learn to live with some workaround.

• WPF ComboBox Binding to non string object

  I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template? • Overwriting the content from one MOSS content database to another

  We have a content database on our live moss server. It contains one site collection with several sub-sites. I'm using the stsadm export command to produce a cmp file, then moving this to our test server in a different farm. I then want to import this content into the content database on our test farm, using the import stsadm command results in me being left with all the existing test data as well as the live data. I tried detaching the existing content database from test in central admin and creating a new empty one,to the then run the import against that but the import failed as obviously there's not root site in the empty db. The aim is to have the data on test look like live, clearing out all the test data. Can anyone suggest a good approach to this type of problem?

• HttpWebRequest to different IP than the domain resolves to

  Hey, Long story short an API I'm calling's different environments (dev/staging/uat/live) is set up by putting a host-record on the server so the live domain resolves to their other server in for the HTTP request. The problem is that they've done this with so many different environments that we don't have enough servers to use the server-wide host files for it anymore (We've got some environments running off the same servers - luckily not dev and live though :P). I'm wondering if there's a way to make WebRequest request to a domain but explicitly specify the IP of the server it should connect to? Or is there any way of doing this short of going all the way down to socket connections (Which I'd really prefer not to waste time/create bugs by trying to re-implementing the HTTP protocol). PS: I've tried and we can't just get a new sub-domain for each environment.

  Hey Guys (and Ladies) I am looking at getting the image name from an image with a src loaded dynamically. Basically what I am doing is using the Google chat badge on a site to live chatting. And else where on the page, I have an image saying Live Chat:Online or Live Chat:Offline. And I want this to change depending on whether I am available to chat or not. Does this make sense? Anyway, the easiest way I figure to do this would be check the img url. If the img is offline.gif then obviously I am offline. An example of a dynamically loaded img would be something like <img src="http://www.google.com/talk/service/badge/Show?encrypted_acount_id_here" /> Once this image has loaded, it loads one of the following images "http://www.google.com/talk/service/resources/offlinef.gif" "http://www.google.com/talk/service/resources/idlef.gif" "http://www.google.com/talk/service/resources/onlinef.gif" Hopefully this make sense now.   I'm building an application that search and recognizes any iPhone apps that user has in his/her computer. I would like to know a way to "extract" the id of the application from the .ipa file. I was trying to do the recognition using only the App File Name, but I discovered that the File Name is not the name of the app in Apple Store. Live Poker 6K Free by Zynga != Live Poker 3.7.ipa The id i'm talking about is the app id, like in, http://itunes.apple.com/app/live-poker-6k-free-by-zynga/id354901953?mt=8 the id is 354901953. Does any body has a clue how can I manage to find this information?

• Does Safari have a timeout issue?

  I have a website that works fine in Firefox and IE but never finishes loading in Safari 4.0.4. The live website loads a menu then loads a Google map. Using Safari, the Google map never loads. I have a test website on the same server that uses the exact same code for loading a Google map and Safari can load the map (this is the one that won't load on my live web). This test website does not have the menu - only the Google map. In both cases (live and test) the main web page calls a loadmap.js file. I've been pulling everything apart to try to identify why Safari won't finish loading. Has anyone run across any problems/solutions with Safari that may help me find a resolution to this problem?

I've created a variable to store how many items have been selected in the Menu Class. private int totalSelected; The var totalSelected is live updated. It can be changed anytime depending on actionPerformed() function.(Exp: totalSelected will add up all the selected items) In the Order Class, how can I access to the live update variable totalSelected in order to retrieve the live update value? • Modifing settings in Django

  I'm trying to get Django's manage.py to run with modified settings files. I have three settings files settings.py preview.py live.py settings.py contains my base settings but on live & preview sites I point the ['DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE'] to live or preview which in turn load the base file and any settings specific to that environment. This works fine, until I try to run migrations using manage.py I updated the manage.py file to import settings.preview but now when I try to run syncdb or migrate I get this error: django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: You haven't set the DATABASE_ENGINE setting yet. My settings file has this in it though: DATABASE_ENGINE = 'mysql' How can I get this to work?

• Reviving a deleted file for use in my workspace

  Greetings We run perforce with several users. Each user has their own development website that shows files in their workspace. This is great for making and viewing changes to webpages before submitting them. Sometime ago, we deleted a few pages in Perforce. I would like to revive these pages, but not to make them visible on our live site. I want to view them in my workspace and on my dev site, but I do want to push them out to our live server. In the "depot" tab of my P4 client, I can see the deleted files. I cannot see them in the "Workspace" tab of my client. How can I revive them for use in my Workspace, but not make them live to the world? I'm not a P4 admin so I could use a little guidance. Thanks for any help,

• How to reschedule Alarm Manager on Preference Change

  Hi, I have an Android Service. When a phone boots up, a broadcast receiver receives a notification and it schedules the service to run repeatedly at a gap of X minutes. Henceforth After every X minutes another broadcast receiver gets those notifications and kicks the service off, which does it's job and quits. So far so good. Now I want those X minutes to be configurable. I have a perf.xml similar to what is given at the link below. This XML captures all my preferences along with that of service timer. http://android-journey.blogspot.com/2010/01/for-almost-any-application-we-need-to.html Now when user changes preferences; how can I reschedule the alarm? Is there a way I can set a listener on preferences change? I have used only XML files to speficy preferences screen. Any ideas will be welcome. Cheers

• iPhone - Browsing iPhone files through computer

  I want to be able to send files from an iPhone app to a computer. What would be the easiest way of doing this? I've made simple server client programs before, but in those, the client has always needed to connect to the server before being able to receive messages from it. There is an app for the iPhone called iSimulate, where you put a server on a Mac (the iPhone simulator), and then you use the iSimulate app of an iTouch or iPhone to send touch events to the server. This app does not require you to type in an ip-address. Instead it presents a list of available computers that have this server up and running. How exactly is this being done? Can a server broadcast a message over a network, w/o anyone being connected to the server? How does that work? How does a client listen for that broadcast?   I have a trouble with selecting element attributes with jquery here is my HTML: <a class="myselector" rel="I need this value"></a> <div class="someClass" id="someID"> ...bunch of elements/content <input type="button" name="myInput" id="inputID" title="myInput Title" /> ...bunch of elements/content </div> ...bunch of elements/content Here I'm trying to get the rel value of myselector here is how I tried but its not working : $('#inputID').live('click',function(){ console.log($(this).closest('a.myselector').attr('rel')); }); Also tried this since all is wrapped in wrapper div : $('#inputID').live('click',function(){ console.log($(this).parent('div.wrapper').find('a.myselector').attr('rel')); }); I get undefined value in firebug in both cases, I use live because div#someID is loaded in the document its not there when page first loads. Any advice, how can I get my selector rel value?

• Server is on or off

  Curious. I'm starting to broadcast high school football games online, and it uses a program to broadcast the feeds off my computer. However, when I shut the program down or the computer down, the server goes offline and guests won't be able to access the feeds. Is there any kind of code out there that I can post onto my website that will indicate to my guests whether the server is on or off? I would figure it would be a simple code, a php script or something that periodically checks to see if a site is on line and then displays ON or OFF.

• RTSP streaming and save into mp4 file using VLC

  Hello All let say i am having one RTSP url (rtsp://192.168.0.17/mpeg4). the live camera is setup on the machine which relay live video. i am streaming it using vlc player and i am saving it in mp4 file on some location (i.e. c:\temp.mp4). Now i am opening another vlc player instance and open this file (c:\temp.mp4). but as it is in use and saving live streaming to that file. that will not be played. if if stop the streaming and then played temp.mp4 file then it will play the streamed (saved) video. Now my requirement is VLC player should also stream and save into temp.mp4 file continuously and at the same time that file should be played in any standard player. is it possible to do with any option using VLC player that we can do both this things simultaneously. • jQuery Cluetip not activated until after hover or click event

  I'm not sure what is causing this, but I am using cluetip and binding it to a live event (either click or mouseenter), but in each situation the cluetip isn't firing until after one click or hover event. I am using the live event for ajax loaded content, but I'm also having this issue with non-Ajax loaded content. I'm not sure why this is happening - can anyone see where I might be going wrong? • git: having 2 push/pull repos in sync (or 1 push/pull and 1 pull in sync)

  Hello, We work on multiple geographically seperate sites. Today I have our git clones all live on one site A. Then users from site B have to ssh over to do a git clone or to push in changes. These are bare repos where the update is through pushes. Ideally, for git clone/push performance, I'd like to limit having to go over ssh. I'd like to have a copy of git repo X live on site A and site B... and have some syncing mechanism between them. OR to have X live on both sites, but only allow pushing to A (and have that setup correctly at clone time on B) I'm worried about the case where someone on site A pushes changes to the repo at site A at the same time that someone on site B pushes a truely conflicting change to the repo at site B. Is there some 'sync'ing solution built into git for distributed open repos like this? Or a way to have a clone from X set the origin/parent to the X from the other site? thanks, -John

• How do you write a consistent UI Automation for MS? MSAA & UI Automation don't seem to overlap.

  Working on a general Automation tool, considering moving from Win32 Message hooks to .net UI Automation, however the feature set of UI Automation doesn't cover all we have in Win32 and still doesn't seem to support all the GUI on Windows. One such example is Windows Live Messenger. Windows Live messenger 2009 is still using the older DirectUIHwnd to draw the gui. This means that you can't use windows messages to send to the controls, because the controls don't have their own HWND. It also seems to defeat the new .net UI Automation framework though the documentation seems to make out as if it can be joined in the UI Automation and Microsoft Active Accessibility document. Looking at MS Accessibility pointed to Active Accessibility 2.0 SDK Tools which showed that MSAA can interact with the contents. Is there some trick to getting the older MSAA technology that UI Automation seems to be trying to replace to actually work with UI Automation? I'd rather not have multiple solutions trying to automate the same windows for windows unlike Windows Live Messenger where each of these techniques is valid and will work.
