• BlueTooth not working on my HP Probook 4720s

  the blue tooth on my ubuntu 11.10 does not work. When i try to ad a device it scans indefinitely and never find anything. Wireless is working perfeclty and with windows 7 it is detected. As i read somewhere , the bluetooth is not listed in the usb devices. • Performing an upgrade from TFS 2008 to TFS 2010

  I recently had to go through the process of migrating a TFS 2008 SP1 to a TFS 2010 environment. I will go into the details of the tasks that I went through, but first I want to explain why I define it as a migration and not an upgrade. When this environment was setup, based on support and limitations for TFS 2008, we used a 32 bit platform for the TFS Application Tier and Build Servers.  The Data Tier, since we were installing SP1 for TFS 2008, was done as a 64 bit installation.  We knew at that point that TFS 2010 was in the picture so that served as further motivation to make that a 64bit install of SQL Server.  The SQL Server at that point was a single instance (Default) installation too.  We had a pretty good strategy in place for backups of the databases supporting the environment (and this made the migration so much smoother), so we were pretty familiar with the databases and the purpose they serve. I am sure many of you that have gone through a TFS 2008 installation have encountered challenges and trials.  And likely even more so if you, like me, needed to configure your deployment for SSL.  So, frankly I was a little concerned about the process of migrating.  They say practice makes perfect, and this environment I worked on is in some way my brain child, so I was not ready nor willing for this to be a failure or something that would impact my client’s work. Prior to going through the migration process, we did the install of the environment.  The Data Tier was the same, with a new Named instance in place to host the 2010 install.  The Application Tier was in place too, and we did the DefaultCollection configuration to test and validate all components were in place as they should. Anyway, on to the tasks for the migration (thanks to Martin Hinselwood for his very thorough documentation): Close access to TFS 2008, you want to make sure all code is checked in and ready to go.  We stated a difference of 8 hours between code lock and the start of migration to give time for any unexpected delay.  How do we close access?  Stop IIS. Backup your databases.  Which ones? TfsActivityLogging TfsBuild TfsIntegration TfsVersionControl TfsWorkItemTracking TfsWorkItemTrackingAttachments Restore the databases to the new Named Instance (make sure you keep the same names) Now comes the fun part! The actual import/migration of the databases.  A couple of things happen here. The TfsIntegration database will be scanned, the other databases will be checked to validate they exist.  Those databases will go through a process of data being extracted and transferred to the TfsVersionControl database to then be renamed to Tfs_<Collection>. You will be using a tool called tfsconfig and the option import. This tool is located in the TFS 2010 installation path (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010\Tools),  the command to use is as follows:    tfsconfig import /sqlinstance:<instance> /collectionName:<name> /confirmed Where <instance> is going to be the SQL Server instance where you restored the databases to.  <name> is the name you will give the collection. And to explain /confirmed, well this means you have done a backup of the databases, why?  well remember you are going to merge the databases you restored when you execute the tfsconfig import command. The process will go through about 200 tasks, once it completes go to Team Foundation Server Administration Console and validate your imported databases and contents. We’ll keep this manageable, so the next post is about how to complete that implementation with the SSL configuration.

  Today I had a little spare time during the morning hours and I decided that after checking MVA that I'm going to query the available course material over at Pluralsight. Wow, thanks to fantastic corporations and acquisitions there are lots of courses available. Nicely split by SharePoint version as well as particular interest group. Additionally, I found a couple of online blogs and community sites that I'm going to visit regularly during the next couple of weeks. Takeaway First contact with the 'real stuff' in order to get an idea about software development in Microsoft SharePoint and beyond. Unfortunately and as already expected, the marketing department over at Microsoft seemed to have nothing better to do than to invent new names and baptise literally the same product with every release. Luckily, the release cycles between versions have been three years (roughly) - 2007, 2010, and 2013. Nonetheless, there will be a lot of version-specfic issues to tackle during this learning phase. Especially, when it's about historical expressions like 'WSS'* like I had it yesterday... It's going to be exciting and demanding to catch up with roughly 6-7 years of development and changes. Okay, let's face it. * WSS stands for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 which forms the 'core engine' of SharePoint 2007. Part 1 of Andrew Connell's series on SharePoint 2013 for developers provides a brief history and overview of the various product names and their relation to the actual SharePoint version. Most probably the client development in C# will be using CSOM but of course I'll keep an eye on the REST API, too. JavaScript has quite a momentum since a while and it would a shame to ignore this type of opportunity and possibilities.

• Integrated webcam in lenovo t410 not working with 12.04

  I have a Lenovo T410 with an inbuilt webcam and I haven't been able to get the webcam working. I tried skype, cheese, both just give me a black window. The microphone works fine with skype, by the way. Can anyone provide any clues please? The webcam is enabled in the bios, but there is no light indicating the webcam is on (not sure if there should be, though). I tried this on Kubuntu 11.10 and have upgraded to 12.04 with the same results. The Fn-F6 keyboard combination doens't seem to do anything either. EDIT: I got the webcam replaced, it looks like it was a hardware problem, because it works fine now. Ensure you have logged into the computer as the installing owner of EPM. Since Enterprise Manager uses a LOT of resources, be sure that there is adequate free RAM to accommodate the added load. On the machine where WebLogic AdminServer is set up (typically the Foundation Services machine), run \Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\config (config.sh on Unix). Select the 'Extend an existing WebLogic domain' option, and click the 'Next' button. Select the domain being used by EPM System. - Typically, the default domain is created under /Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains and is named EPMSystem. - Click 'Next'. Under 'Extend my domain automatically to support the following added products' - place a check mark before 'Oracle Enterprise Manager - 11.1.1.0 [oracle_common]' to select it. - Continue accepting the defaults by clicking 'Next' on each page until - on the last page you click 'Extend'. - The system will grind for a few minutes while it configures (deploys?) EM. - Start the AdminServer. Sometimes there is contention in the startup order of the various servlets (resulting in some not coming up). • How to undo a changeset using tf.exe rollback

Did you just check in a changeset in to TFS and realized that you need to roll back the changeset because the changes were suppose to go in a different branch? Or did you just accidently merge a wrong changeset in your release branch? There are several ways to undo the damage, Manual: Yes, we all just hate this word but for the record you could manually rollback the changes. Get Specific version on the branch and chose the changeset prior to the one you checked in. After that check out all the files in the changeset and check them in. During the check in you will receive a conflict. At this point choose ‘Keep local changes’ in the conflict resolution window and check in the files. Automated: Yes, we just love it! TFS comes with a very powerful command line utility ‘tf.exe’ that gives you the ability to rollback the effects of one or more changesets to one or more version-controlled items. This command does not remove the changesets from an item's version history. Instead, this command creates in your workspace a set of pending changes that negate the effects of the changesets that you specify. Syntax tf rollback /toversion:VersionSpec ItemSpec [/recursive] [/lock:none|checkin|checkout] [/version:versionspec] [/keepmergehistory] [/login:username,[password]] [/noprompt] tf rollback /changeset:ChangesetFrom~ChangesetTo [ItemSpec] [/recursive] [/lock:none|checkin|checkout] [/version:VersionSpec] [/keepmergehistory] [/noprompt] [/login:username,[password]]   I’ll explain this with an example. Your workspace is at the location C:\myWorkspace You want to rollback changeset # 145621 C:\Workspace\MyBranch>tf.exe rollback /changeset:145621 /recursive How do i rollback/undo a series of changesets? You can also rollback a range of changesets by using the following C:\Workspace\MyBranch>tf.exe rollback /changeset:145601~145621 /recursive This will check out the files in the version control and you should be able to see them in the pending changes. Go on check them in to undo the specific changeset that you just rolled back. Do you completely want to get rid of the changeset from all future merges between the two branches? /KeepMergeHistory: This option has an effect only if one or more of the changesets that you are rolling back include a branch or merge change. Specify this option if you want future merges between the same source and the same target to exclude the changes that you are rolling back. Errors “If you get the message ‘Unable to determine the workspace.’ You may be able to correct this by running ‘tf worksapces /collection:TeamProjectCollectionUrl’” you are in the wrong directory. Make sure that you run the ‘tf rollback’ command from the directory of your workspace.   Status Exit Code Description 0 The operation rolled back all items successfully. 1 The operation rolled back at least one item successfully but could not roll back one or more items. 100 The operation could not roll back any items.   To use the command you must have the Read, Check Out, and Check In permissions set to Allow. • Best way to find freelance c# developer

  I am a developer based in London developing a desktop WPF business application using c# (+ MVVM/DDD/Nhibernate/Unity/Postsharp...). I need to find someone to review my code to suggest improvements and then to write integration tests. This could potentially be an ongoing relationship, expanding into writing new features etc. It would suit an experienced developer with a strong interest in design principles and writing clean code, who can work part time. However, the developer would need to work at my home based office (although timing is flexible). Websites such as elance and odesk seem to tie you in, and I would prefer to pay a one off introduction fee and then deal with the developer direct. Stack exchange seems quite expensive but is a possibility if I don't find an alternative. So, are there any other websites I can try?
