• How to use sessions with django piston auth?

  The problem is that I want to store authentication in a cookie that I can present to django piston rather than requiring user/password to be typed in each time (without hardcoding or storing the user/pass combo somewhere on disk). I was hoping to accomplish this with cookies like someone would without the piston API. Am I missing something? Django Piston doesn't seem to care about session cookies at all? Or can someone suggest a good alternative? Maybe I shouldn't use Piston?

• iPhone NSURLConnection through Proxy+Auth

  I am using NSURLConnection to make connections to a server, through a proxy that requires authentication this fails. The proxy settings are set under the WiFi, but the connection still fails. I believe there is a part of CFNetwork that can fix this, but this might be just for streams and I am unsure of how to implement it with NSURLConnection. How can I tell my application to use the proxy settings set under WiFi?

  I'm using the Ruby GData Library to access Google Docs and I recently got the GData::Client::CaptchaError because I was re-logging in with every request. Reading this post, it recommends not logging in with every request, but caching the authentication token. How do I go about doing that correctly? Google says it expires every 24 hours, and it doesn't seem like I should store it in the session, so what should I do? I'm using Ruby on Rails with all this. Thanks so much

  I am writing a script that grabs the external IP address along with some other information about each iface. I can't figure out how to make ruby send traffic over a specific iface(eth0 and wlan0 for example). I am currently using the open-uri library to open http://whatismyip.org and read it into a variable. def get_external_ip begin open("http://whatismyip.org") { |f| return f.read } rescue return "none" end end Is there any way to specify this at runtime of the script or from within the script itself(ideally)?

• Twitter O-Auth Callback url

  I am having a problem with Twitter's oauth authentication and using a callback url. I am coding in php and using the sample code referenced by the twitter wiki, http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth I got that code, and tried a simple test and it worked nicely. However I want to programatically specify the callback url, and the example did not support that. So I quickly modified the getRequestToken() method to take in a parameter and now it looks like this: function getRequestToken($params = array()) { $r = $this->oAuthRequest($this->requestTokenURL(), $params); $token = $this->oAuthParseResponse($r); $this->token = new OAuthConsumer($token['oauth_token'], $token['oauth_token_secret']); return $token; } and my call looks like this $tok = $to->getRequestToken(array('oauth_callback' => 'http://127.0.0.1/twitter_prompt/index.php')); This is the only change I made, and the redirect works like a charm, however I am getting an error when I then try and use my newly granted access to try and make a call. I get a "Could not authenticate you" error. Also the application never actually gets added to the users authorized connections. Now I read the specs and I thought all I had to do was specify the parameter when getting the request token. Could someone a little more seasoned in oauth and twitter possibly give me a hand?   After I discontinued programming in C++ while entering into web authoring I was spoilt by PHP's high level constructs like hash tables or its dynamic, weak typing. I remembered the angst of C/C++ pointers and the maze of low-level Win32 API handles and message loops and that prevented me from utilizing environments like Code::Blocks for desktop applications. I am also not very fond of bulky, statically-typed C#/.NET environment. Any other ideas?

• Spring-Security http-basic auth in addition to other authentication types

  I have a pretty standard existing webapp using spring security that requires a database-backed form login for user-specific paths (such as /user/**), and some completely open and public paths (such as /index.html). However, as this webapp is still under development, I'd like to add a http-basic popup across all paths (/**) to add some privacy. Therefore, I'm trying to add a http-basic popup that asks for a universal user/pass combo (ex admin/foo) that would be required to view any path, but then still keep intact all of the other underlying authentication mechanisms. I can't really do anything with the <http> tag, since that will confuse the "keep out the nosy crawlers" authentication with the "user login" authentication, and I'm not seeing any way to associate different paths with different authentication mechanisms. Is there some way to do this with spring security? Alternatively, is there some kind of a dead simple filter that I can apply independently of spring-security's authentication mechanisms?

• Advice on simple efficient way to store web form data when no db/auth required

  Hi, I have a situation where I need to provide an efficient way to process and store comments submitted via a web form. I would normally use PHP and either MySQL or XML to store the data, but this is slightly different in that this web form will only be temporarily available in a closed LAN environment, and all i need to do is process the form data and store it a format which can be accessed by another application on the LAN (Adobe Director). Each request made by the Director app should pop the stack of data. I'm wondering how best to store the data for this type of situation as it's not something I would normally do. I'm thinking possibly storing the data in an XML file, but any advice would be great!

I have an app which I've put out to a small group of beta testers and I already fell foul of Environment.getExternalFilesDir(), which I hadn't noticed was introduced in API Level 8, when a couple of the guys tried it on Android v2.1 devices.   Using Apache mod_auth_basic and mod_authn_dbd you can authenticate a user by looking up that user's password in the database. I see that working if the password is held in clear, but what if we use a random string as a salt (also stored in the database) then store the hash of the concatenation? mod_authn_dbd requires you to specify a query to select that password not to decide if the user is authenticated of not. So you cannot use that query to concatenate the user provided password with the salt then compare with the stored hash. AuthDBDUserRealmQuery "SELECT password FROM authn WHERE user = %s AND realm = %s" Is there a way to make this work?

• Web framework recommendation for python (webservices, auth, cache, ...)

  Hi all, Googling for the past week, but cannot finally decide which python web framework would be right for me. The web app I'm about to develop would be almost completely "pure" html with js (jQuery). Server side would have to do the following: authentication session management caching web services (almost all the on page data would be pulled with jQuery through web services) secured web services (through some form of authentication; this is for remote accessing some of the web services though other web apps, desktop/mobile applications) If there is a good tutorial/guide/idea for how to do this in Django I would be most thankfull if someone could share it as I already have experience with it. The thing that made me start thinking about other frameworks is Django's built in ORM. I know I could swap it with SQLAlchemy, but wouldn't go down that road if I'm not sure all the rest of the requirements is supported. Thanks all in advance.

• Realtime file-level mirroring from local NTFS to network drive

  We have some data collection machines running WinXP. After a new file is written, we would like to immediately copy the new file to network storage (a NetApp CIFS share) automagically. We need realtime or near realtime copies generated (copy upon filehandle close would be fine -- these are not long-running system logs). Two commercial applications I've found so far are MirrorFile and IBM's Tivoli CDP. Are there any reliable open source programs or simple ways to get Shadow Copy to do something similar? Bonus points if it runs as a service.

• IIS to SQL Server kerberos auth issues

  We have a 3rd party product that allows some of our users to manipulate data in a database (on what we'll call SvrSQL) via a website on a separate server (SvrWeb). On SvrWeb, we have a specific, non-default website setup for this application so instead of going to http://SvrWeb.company.com to get to the website we use http://application.company.com which resolves to SvrWeb and the host headers resolve to the correct website. There is also a specific application pool set up for this site which uses an Active Directory account identity we'll call "company\SrvWeb_iis". We're setup to allow delegation on this account and to allow it to impersonate another login which we want it to do. (we want this account to pass along the AD credentials of the person signed into the website to SQL Server instead of a service account. We also set up the SPNs for the SrvWeb_iis account via the following command: setspn -A HTTP/SrvWeb.company.com SrvWeb_iis The website pulls up, but the section of the website that makes the call to the database returns the message: Cannot execute database query. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. I thought we had the SPN information set up correctly, but when I check the security event log on SrvWeb I see entries of my logging in, but it seems to be using NTLM and not kerberos: Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Any ideas or articles that cover this setup in detail would be extremely appreciated! If it helps, we are using SQL Server 2005, and both the web and SQL servers are Windows 2003.

I created some apps, some of those are related to User model, for instance, I have a feeds app that handles user feeds, and another app that deals with extra user data like age, contacts, and friends. for each of these, I created a table that should be connected to the User model, which I using for storing and authenticating users. I found two ways to deal with this issue. One, is through extending User model to be like this: ModelName(User): friends = models.ManyToMany('self') ..... Two, is through adding a foreign key to the new table like this: ModelName(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) friends = friends = models.ManyToMany('self') ...... I can't decide which to use in which case. in other words, what are the core differences between both?
