• Can I commit changes to actual database while debugging C# in Visual Studio?

  I am creating a C# application using Visual Studio that uses an SQLExpress database. When I hit f5 to debug the application and make changes to the database I believe what is happening is there is a copy of the database in the bin/debug folder that changes are being made to. However, when I stop the debugging and then hit f5 the next time a new copy of the database is being put in the bin/debug folder so that all the changes made the last time are gone. My question is: Is there a way that when I am debugging the application I can have it make changes to the actual database and those changes are actually saved or will it only make changes to the copy in the bin/debug folder (if that is what is actually happening)? I've seen similar questions, but I couldn't find an answer that said if it's possible to make those changes persistent in the actual .mdf file. The reason I ask is because as I build this application I am continuously adding pieces and testing to make sure they all work together. When I put in test data I am using actual data that I would like to stay in the database. This would just help me not have to reenter the data later. • Changing default compiler in Linux, using SCons

  On my Linux platform, I have several versions of gcc. Under usr/bin I have: gcc34 gcc44 gcc Here are some outputs: $ gcc --version gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-48) $ gcc44 --version gcc44 (GCC) 4.4.0 20090514 (Red Hat 4.4.0-6) I need to use the 4.4 version of gcc however the default seems to the 4.1 one. I there a way to replace /usr/bin/gcc and make gcc44 the default compiler not using a symlink to /usr/bin/gcc44 ? The reason why I can't use a symlink is because my code will have to be shipped in a RPM package using mock. mock creates a minimal linux installation from scratch and just install the specified dependencies before compiling my code in it. I cannot customize this "minimal installation". Ideally, the perfect solution would be to install an official RPM package that replaces gcc with gcc44 as the default compiler. Is there such a package ? Is this even possible/good ? Additional information I have to use SCons (a make alternative) and it doesn't let me specify the binary to use for gcc. I will also accept any answer that will tell me how to specify the gcc binary in my SConstruct file.

  I have many Java versions installed on a Windows 7 machine. Some of them are 32 bits, some are 64 bits. Now as default it starts one of those last versions (1.7 64 bits). How do I tell my Windows 7 machine to use another version of Java? One of the reasons is that I'm developing a JNI project from Microsoft Visual Studio C++ - it uses also java 1.7 64 bits.   For some reason, out of no where, rails began giving me an error on "rake db:migrate", and I can no longer run migrations. It returns the error "no such file to load -- spec /home/ti/rails_apps/appname/Rakefile:10" I've spent two hours searching google for answers, trying to figure this out, but to no avail. What could be the problem? • rails not recognizing project

• tomcat wont start up on linux machine

  hi, im new to linux but after spending the day i have got linux running. installed java and tomcat. my goal is host my app with this linux box i've just set up. i know it all works fine from my windows based machine but it is my laptop so i'm planning this as my dedicated server. following many many forums i've now got tomcat 7 installed. however i cannot get it to start. changing to the tomcat directory and "./startup.sh" i get output Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/local/tomcat Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local.tomcat Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/local/tomcat/temp Using JRE_HOME: usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/ Using CLASSPATH: /usr/local/tomcat/bin/bootstrap.jar:/usr/local.tomcat/bin/c\tomcat-juli.jar thats the end of theoutput. however localhost:8080 is not up. and in the tomcat log file is the error "eval: 1: usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun//bin/java: not found" hopfully there is some expert here who can help me with this problem. please note that im a novice when it comes to linux. thankyou oh and my version of linux is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx

• .NET Application with SQL Server CE Database

  I just started using SQL Server CE 3.5 in my WinForms Application (C# in VS 2008 SP1). I've noticed a couple of interesting things I'd like some input on: 1. Copying of sdf file to bin My sdf file is located inside of an Infrastructure project that houses my repository implementations. When the application is first debugged the sdf was copied to debug\bin. This is where all future reads/writes operate. At some point when this is deployed the file will go into a data folder using Click Once, but during development where should I be putting this sdf? Is having it in the bin typical, or are there any other recommendations? 2. Updating sdf It appears that writing to the sdf file does not immediately update the database. I am using Linq-to-SQL and am calling SubmitChanges, but on read the values are not returned. However if I close the application and re-open it the added value is there. Is there an additional flush step I need to take? What is causing this, file locking, buffering, something else? Update 3. Unit Tests I have an MS test project, and the sdf file is not being copied to the correct output directory. I have the settings: Build Action: Content Copy to Output Directory: Copy Always The message is: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException: The database file cannot be found. Check the path to the database. I appreciate any guidance on these questions, thanks. If there is a tutorial other than what is on MSDN that you know about that would be great too. Working with CE is proving to be a difficult task and I welcome any help I can find.

• Run Jmol applet using apache server

  I am a newbie in using apache and jmol. I am trying to run a jmol applet in python using apache server. Because of strict folder arrangement restrictions in jmol (html and model files should be present inside jmol folder), I had to move the default htdocs and cgi-bin folder inside jmol folder by editing the "httd.conf" file. Now the new location of htdocs folder is "Apache2.2/jmol/htdocs" and of cgi-bin folder is "Apache2.2/jmol/cgi-bin". Now I've put my "start.html" file in the htdocs folder which has the jmol applet tag. It takes "CA150.XYZ" file which is also placed in the same folder. On running this "start.html" file through apache server, nothing happens. It even doesn't give any error, it just shows a blank page. But if I try to run "start.html" without apache server, jmol applet do get executed and runs successfully. What am I doing wrong? Any idea? • Configuration Error , Finding assembly after I swapped referenced dll out. Visual Studio 2003

  Here is the situation. I had a clean build of my asp.net web application working. I then went into the bin folder under the web app and replaced two referenced dll's with two older version of the same dll's. (Same name etc.) After testing I replaced those dll's back to the new ones and now my application keeps throwing the configuration error === Pre-bind state information === LOG: DisplayName = xxxxx.xxxx.Personalization (Partial) LOG: Appbase = file:///c:/inetpub/wwwroot/appname LOG: Initial PrivatePath = bin Calling assembly : (Unknown). LOG: Policy not being applied to reference at this time (private, custom, partial, or location-based assembly bind). I found this issue on the web and tried all the solutions to it but nothing worked. I then went into all my projects that it references under the solution and cleared out the bin/debug folder in each, I cleared out the obj folder under each and also deleted the temporary files associated with the application. I rebuilt it and it still will not work due to this error Not sure what is causing this or how to fix this issue. I have tried restarting IIS, stopping index services which was said to be a known issue. This is .net framework 1.1 app and visual studio 2003 Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

• Satisfying indirect references at runtime.

  I'm using C# and VS2010. I have a dll that I reference in my project (as a dll reference not a project reference). That dll (a.dll) references another dll that my project doesn't directly use, let's call it b.dll. None of these are in the GAC. My project compiles fine, but when I run it I get an exception that b.dll can't be found. It's not being copied to the bin directory when my project is compiled. What is the best way to get b.dll into the bin directory so that it can be found at run time. I've thought of four options. Use a post compile step to copy b.dll to the bin directory Add b.dll to my project (as a file) and specify copy to output directory if newer Add b.dll as a dll reference to my project. Use ILMerge to combine b.dll with a.dll I don't like 3 at all because it makes b.dll visible to my project, the other two seem like hacks. Am I missing other solutions? Which is the "right" way? Would a dependency injection framework be able to resolve and load b.dll?

  I have my application online on the Google Apps Engine. When I deploy this application, this error is generated. I am using Netbeans 6.9. My jdk is installed at : "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\". I have installed Google App Engine for Java. This application is getting deployed & run on localhost very well. I am also able to start Google App Engine Server. I have set Environment variables as : 1) classpath : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin; 2) path : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin; 3) JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin; 4) include : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\include; 5) lib : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\lib; However, in system32, I am not finding java.exe, javac.exe or javawc.exe. Also, while running this : 1) java.exe 2) javac.exe 3) java -version from Command Line, they give proper output. How do I make my application properly deployed ?

  Android SDK Manager complains "WARNING: Java not found in your path". Instead of using the information from Windows registry, the software tries to search Java in the default installation folders, and fails (I don't install software in program files because I don't like space characters in my paths). Of course I know how to modify the %PATH% environment variable. The question is — which Java does it need? After installing the latest JDK, I’ve got 4 distinct versions of java.exe file, in the following 4 folders: system32, jre6\bin, jdk1.6.0_26\bin, and jdk1.6.0_26\jre\bin. Size ranges from 145184 to 171808. All of them print version “1.6.0_26” when launched with the “-version” argument. The one in system32 has .exe version “6.0.250.6”, the rest of them is “6.0.260.3”. All 4 files are different (I’ve calculated the MD5 checksums). Q1. Which folder should I add to %PATH% to make the Android SDK happy? Q2. Why does Oracle build that many variants of java.exe of the same version for the same platform? Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium, and downloaded the 64-bit version of JDK, jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe.

  We use webalizer to generate reports on our Apache access logs - it is useful in conjunction with Google Analytics. The problem is that webalizer uses ALOT of CPU when running. If I run top I can see two perl processes with 90% CPU - this slows down the machine and therefore the website for our users. • Getting OTRS to work with XAMPP

  Setting up a testing environment on a RHEL5 server to test out OTRS ticketing system. I installed XAMPP for the ease of use factor for testing but can't seem to get the ticketing system to start with XAMPP at all. I am new to OTRS and learning on the fly. The documentation says to go to localhost/otrs/installer.pl. First, this file does not exist anywhere in the directory except in /opt/otrs/cgi-bin & fcgi-bin. And when I attempted to start OTRS in general I get " -- Please start the web server first! (service httpd start) <--" So do I need to edit the startup script to force it to use XAMPP? Or am I better off just installing HTTPD & MySQL myself?

• PHP 5.3.1 Undefined Symbol: OnUpdateLong error on Apache Startup

  I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on this server. I had PHP 5.2 installed via the package manager. I removed it to install PHP 5.3.1 by hand. I built the packages like so ./configure --prefix=/opt/php --with-mysql --with-curl=/usr/bin --with-apxs2=/usr/bin/apxs2 make make install This installed PHP 5.3.1 in /opt/php/ $ php -v PHP 5.3.1 (cli) (built: Dec 7 2009 10:51:14) Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2009 Zend Technologies However, when I try to start Apache I get this. # /etc/init.d/apache2 restart * Restarting web server apache2 apache2: Syntax error on line 185 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.load: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so into server: /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so: undefined symbol: OnUpdateLong [fail] Any ideas what's causing this error? All the references I can see have to do with building php5 packages for php4 or the like. PHP4 has never been installed on this machine.
