• Is there a way to find out whether a class is a direct base of another class?

  Hi I'm wondering whether there is a way to find out whether a class is a direct base of another class i.e. in boost type trait terms a is_direct_base_of function. As far as I can see boost doesn't see to support this kind of functionality which leads me to think that its impossible with the current C++ standard. The reason I want it is to do some validation checking on two macro's that are used for a reflection system to specify that one class is derived from another e.g. header.h: #define BASE A #define DERIVED B class A {}; class B : public A { #include <rtti.h> }; rtti.h: // I want to check that the two macro's are correct with a compile time assert Rtti<BASE, DERIVED> m_rtti; Although the macro's seem unnecessary in this simple example in my real world scenario rtti.h is a lot more complex. One possible avenue would be to compare the size of the this pointer with the size of a this pointer cast to the base type and some how trying to figure out whether its the size of the base class itself away or something (yeah your right I don't know how that would work either! lol)

• Excel VBA creating a new column with formula

  I have an excel file with a column which has date data. I want the user to input a date of their choosing and then I want to create a new column that lists the difference in days between the two dates. The Macro that I have is working but I have a few questions and I would like to make it better. Link to MWE small data file is here. What's the difference between the function Datedif and the procedure DateDiff? I am able to use the procedure DateDiff in my macro but I don't know how to use it to fill out my column. Is one method better than the other? Is there a better way to add columns to the existing sheet, where the columns include some calculations involving existing data on the sheet and some user inputs? There are tons of more complicated calculations I want to do next. Thanks

• C++: Declare static variable in function argument list

  Is there any way at all in C++ to declare a static variable while passing it to a function? I'm looking to use a macro to expand to the expression passed to the function. The expression needs to declare and initialize a static variable on that particular line (based on the filename and line number using FILE and LINE). int foo(int b) { int c = b + 2; return c; } int main() { int a = 3; a = foo(static int h = 2); //<---- see this! cout << a; return 0; } The problem I'm trying to solve is getting the filename and line number with the FILE and LINE macros provided by the preprocessor, but then creating a lookup table with integer keys leading to the FILE, LINE pairs. For example, the key 89 may map to file foo.cpp, line 20. To get this to work, I'm trying to use local static variables, so that they are initialized only once per line execution. The static variable will be initialized by calling a function that calculates the integer key and adds an entry to the lookup table if it is not there. Right now the program uses a message class to send exception information. I'm writing a macro to wrap this class into a new class: WRAPPER_MACRO(old_class_object) will expand to NewClass(old_class_object, key_value). If I add the static variable declaration as a second line right before this, it should work. The problem is that in most places in the code, the old class object is passed as an argument to a function. So the problem becomes declaring and initializing the static variable somehow with the macro, while keeping the existing function calls.

• PR_USER_X509_CERTIFICATE extra data

  Hi, I am trying to import an outlook PST file to my application running on Mac OS X. The PST file consists of contacts created in Outlook. The contacts have X509 certificates added to them. The problem I am facing is ASN decoding of the certificate fails. I have read somewhere that there is extra data before and after the certificate referred by PR_USER_X509_CERTIFICATE in the PST file.   We are in the process of switching over to ACCESS 2007. We have numerous data tables in ACCESS 2003 files. In one case, the user has 2007 on his PC and opend the front end in 2007. No problems. When the the user is done, he clicks a button that executes a macro full of update queries. The macro reaches the first query and halts. We get a messge saying we do not have permisons to write to this linked table (2003 format). There were no security files involved. We re-linked from 2007, same problem. LAN permssions were ok. I wound up having to import the tables to front end in order for the user to be able to do his job.

I always have firefox running, but it brings up a new window, not sure if this is a new instance of firefox, or a second window. Upon completion of the macro, I'd like the extra window closed. The extra window has a blank tab and a tab for the macro that ran. How can I set up the task to clean up after itself?

  (I'm using Microsoft excel 2010) OK, lets say I have a list of phrases in both column A and column B (see screen shot below) What I would like to happen whether it be with a macro, VBA or formula is: If there is a word in any cell in column A that isn't any of the words in any cell in column B to highlight that word in red. For example: in cell A9 the word "buy" is there, but the word buy isn't mentioned anywhere in column B so i would like the word buy to highlight in red. How can I accomplish this? (I think a macro/vba would be the best option but I have no idea how to create it, or even if its possible.)

  I have a Word VBA macro that loops through a directory and writes down the file path of files selected for some criteria into a new Word document. Works well as plain text (as part of a loop): wdDocResults.Content.InsertAfter objFile.Path & Chr(13) However, I'd like them to be hyperlinks. • How to auto advance a PowerPoint slide after an exit animation is over?

  PowerPoint entrance animation set up with "Start: With Previous" starts right when a new slide is advanced. However, if you set up an exit animation in the same way, it doesn't start with a slide ending sequence. Instead, the "Start: On Click" trigger needs to be used and after your exit animation is over you still need one extra click just to advance to the next slide. Workarounds to this are obvious: create a duplicate slide, make your ending animations from the original slide being your starting animations on the duplicate slide and let them be followed with whatever you want or create a transition slide with those ending animations only and set up "Change Advance slide - Automatically after - [the time it takes your animations to finish]". These workarounds will make it work for your audience, visually. However, it has an impact on slide numbers you might need to adjust accordingly and/or duplicate content changes. If you are the only one creating and using your presentation, this might be just fine. But if you are creating a presentation in collaborative mode with three other people and don't even know who will be the presenter at the end, you can mess things up. Let's be specific: most of my slides have 0.2s fly in entrance animation applied to blocks of content coming from right, bottom or left. Advancing to the next slide I want them to fly out in another 0.2s exit animation being followed by new slide 0.2s fly in entrance animation of the new blocks. The swapping of the blocks should be triggered while advancing to the next slide, as usually. As mentioned, I'm not able to achieve this without one extra click between the slides. I wrote a VBA script that should start together with an exit animation and will auto advance a slide after 0.3s when the exit animation is over. That way I should get rid of those extra clicks which are needed right now. Sub nextslide() iTime = 0.3 Start = Timer While Timer < Start + iTime DoEvents Wend With SlideShowWindows(1).View .GotoSlide (ActivePresentation.SlideShowWindow.View.Slide.SlideIndex + 1) End With End Sub It works well when binded on a box, button or another object. But I can't make it run on a single click (anywhere on the slide) so that it could start together with the exit animation onclick trigger. Creating a big transparent rectangular shape over the whole slide and binding the macro on it doesn't help either. By clicking it you only get the macro running, exit animation is not triggered. Anyway, I don't want to bind the macro to any other workaround object but the slide itself. Anyone knows how to trigger a PowerPoint VBA script on slide onclick event? Anyone knows a secret setting that will make the exit animation work as expected i.e. animating right before exiting a slide while transitioning to the next one? Anyone knows how to beat this dragon?   I found myself in need of exporting PowerPoint slides from a presentation and was fairly excited when I found that you could save them off in standard image formats. • Visual Studio 2012 first impressions...no Macros!

  Yesterday I installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 for the first time (all 8.5GB) and after 20 years of (mostly) happy times using VS they have removed Macros, one of the most handy features.The first thing I wanted to do when I upgraded my VS2010 project was to add a #elseif block to each file. This would usually be simple case of find in files of the previous #elseif and then Ctrl+Shift+R to record a macro which would be: F8 (to select the next file from find list), F3 (to find the correct position in file), Ctrl+V to paste the new code. Then all I would need to do is keep Ctrl+Shift+P (Play Macro) pressed until all the files were processed.But alas Ctrl+Shift+R does nothing! I won’t say that I use Macros every day but it was a very useful feature.To continue my moaning a little more, I also don't like the bland interface. This has been well documented by others, but now I have used it myself, I find it difficult to tell one grey area of screen from another and the lack of colour makes the icons unclear.I also don't see why the menus now need to SHOUT in capital letters?On the plus side, they have now added the ability to see WPF properties in the debugger...a bit of an oversight in Visual Studio 2010. Oh, but you still can't edit and continue on files that contain templated code.Whilst Visual Studio 2012 is not a complete disaster like Windows 8 (why develop a desk top OS to be the same as a Smart device OS), it does not float my boat.Rant over.#

• What gaming keyboard(s) will work with Ubuntu?

  I've been looking at gaming keyboards to use on Ubuntu system. Microsoft has a few popular ones (e.g., Sidewinder X4, X6), but the programmable function keys appear to be unusable without the Windows software. (Though here's a post from someone who has a more recent project that uses usbmon and xdotool to add functions to some keys.) Another choice in my budget is the Cyborg V.05. It seems about right for my needs, but I would be depressed having a bunch of useless, nonprogrammable keys on it. Logitech has some models (e.g., the Logitech G110), though again I expect that the extensive macro capabilities (which I don't need) would be lost under Linux. There's a project called g15tools which has some code to work with older Logitech gaming models, but I don't know what the current status is. Last entry there was in March 2010. There are also a number of very old posts around the internet with regard to the Logitech G11 and G15. Compatibility with the current keyboards, Ubuntu version, and Linux kernel are suspect. I'm in the U.S., and so it appears that few of the Roccat keyboards are available, and they're over-priced. Support might be OK for these, though -- there's a short Phoronix article about Roccat improving their Linux support, and there's also a project and webpage for "Using Roccat Hardware with Linux". Honestly, the only feature I have to have is good backlighting for the keys, and if it's not wired (which is fine), the wireless capability should function. I could probably live with dead function keys, as long as they weren't in places that would interfere with things like Unity/compiz shortcuts. Any experience or suggestions? I've not seen much to inspire confidence with programmable/macro keys. There is a thread (with no solutions) on the Sidewinder X4 on ubuntuforums here. I'm also considering the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard as a possibility, even though it's not specifically a gaming keyboard. It is backlit, and it's supposed to be a nice keyboard.

  (This is a partial repost of a question asked 10 days ago because only 1 part was answered(not included), I've rewritten it into a way better question and added 3 more tags) where do I put the DeleteAsset.class or why isn't it being found? I've put the compiled class from the bin of the workspace of eclipse into alfresco-4.2.c/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/com/openerp/behavior/ and right now it's giving me Error loading class [com.openerp.behavior.DeleteAsset] for bean with name 'deletionBehavior' defined in URL [file:/home/openerp/alfresco-4.2.c/tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension/cust??om-web-context.xml]: problem with class file or dependent class; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/openerp/behavior/DeleteAsset (wrong name: DeleteAsset) when I put it in there. think I've found the problem. Being a newbie to eclipse I haven't managed the dependecies well I think. • Create Music Playlists in Windows 7 Media Center

  One of the new features in Windows 7 Media Center is the ability to easily create music playlists without using Media Player. Today we’ll take a closer look at how to create them directly in Media Center. Create Manual Playlists Open Windows Media Center and select the Music Library. From within the Music Library, choose playlists from the top menu.   Then select Create Playlist. Give your new playlist a name, and select Next. Choose Music Library and select Next.    Select “songs” from the top menu, choose the songs for your playlist from your library, and select Next when finished. You can also click Select All to add all songs to your playlist, or clear all to remove them. Note: you can also sort by artist, album, genre, etc. from the top menu.   Now you can review and edit your playlist. Click the up and down pointers to move songs up and down in the playlist, or “X” to remove them. You can also go back and add additional songs by selecting Add More. Click Create when you are finished.   Auto Playlists Windows Media Center also allows you to create six different auto playlists. These are dynamic playlists based on pre-defined criteria. Auto Playlists include All Music, Music added in the last month, Music auto rated at 5 stars, Music played in the last month, Music played the most, and Music rated 4 or 5 stars. These Auto Playlists will change dynamically as your library and listening habits change. Your new music playlists can be found under playlists in the music library. Select play playlist to start the music. Now kick back and enjoy the music from your playlist. Conclusion While earlier versions of WMC allowed you to create playlists, you had to do it through Windows Media Player. This is a nice new feature for music lovers who use WMC and prefer to do everything with a remote. Do you already have playlists that you’ve created in Windows Media Player? Windows Media Center can play those too. If your playlists are in the default Music folder, Media Center will detect them automatically and add them to your Music Library. Plus, any playlists you create in Media Center are also available for Media Player.
