    Does EF 4 support unidirectional one-to-many associations, as in: public class Parent { public int Id { get; set; } public string Something { get; set; } public List<Child> AllMyChildren { get; set; } } public class Child { public int Id { get; set; } public string Anotherthing { get; set; } // I don't want a back-reference to the Parent! // public int ParentId { get; set; } } When I try to compile my project with an association between Parent and Child where End2 Navigation is blank (because I unchecked the End2 Navigation Property checkbox in the Add Association dialog), I get Error 2027: No mapping specified for the following EntitySet/AssociationSet - Child.

    I am using captcha in Zend. But When I render captcha element in view, it shows image, an field for enter text and also another field with a string in it. I want hide this text field with a string.   • How should I handle this Optimistic Concurrency error in this Entity Framework code, I have?

    Hi folks, I have the following pseduo code in some Repository Pattern project that uses EF4. public void Delete(int someId) { // 1. Load the entity for that Id. If there is none, then null. // 2. If entity != null, then DeleteObject(..); } Pretty simple but I'm getting a run-time error:- ConcurrencyException: Store, Update, Insert or Delete statement affected an unexpected number of rows (0). Now, this is what is happening :- Two instances of EF4 are running inthe app at the same time. Instance A calls delete. Instance B calls delete a nano second later. Instance A loads the entity. Instance B also loads the entity. Instance A now deletes that entity - cool bananas. Instance B tries to delete the entity, but it's already gone. As such, the no-count or what not is 0, when it expected 1 .. or something like that. Basically, it figured out that the item it is suppose to delete, didn't delete (because it happened a split sec ago). I'm not sure if this is like a race-condition or something. Anyways, is there any tricks I can do here so the 2nd call doesn't crash? I could make it into a stored procedure.. but I'm hoping to avoid that right now. Any ideas? I'm wondering If it's possible to lock that row (and that row only) when the select is called ... forcing Instance B to wait until the row lock has been relased. By that time, the row is deleted, so when Instance B does it's select, the data is not there .. so it will never delete.

    Hi all, I need to know the best practice of creating an entity object and assigning the foreign key. Here is my scenario. I have a Product table with pid,name,unit_price etc.. I also have a Rating table with pid (foregin key),rate,votes etc...   • Is ADO.NET Entity framework database schema update possible ?

    Hi All I'm working on proof of concept application like crm and i need your some advice. My application's data layer completely dynamic and run onto EF 3.5. When the user update the entity, change relation or add new column to the database, first i'm planning make for these with custom classes. After I rebuild my database model layer with new changes during the application runtime. And my model layer tie with tightly coupled to my project for easy reflecting model layer changes (It connected to my project via interfaces and loading onto to application domain in the runtime). I need to create dynamic entities, create entity relations and modify them during the runtime after that i need to create change database script for updating database schema. I know ADO.NET team says "we will be able to provide this property in EF 4.0", but i don't need to wait for them. How can i update database changes during the runtime via EF 3.5 ? For example, i need to create new entity or need to change some entity schema, add new properties or change property types after than how can apply these changes on the physical database schema ? Any ideas ?

  • PHP / Zend Framework: Force prepend table name to column name in result array?

    I am using Zend_Db_Select currently to retrieve hierarchical data from several joined tables. I need to be able to convert this easily into an array. Short of using a switch statement and listing out all the columns individually in order to sort the data, my thought was that if I could get the table names auto-prepended to the keys in the result array, that would solve my problem. So considering the following (assembled) SQL: SELECT user.*, contact.* FROM user INNER JOIN contact ON contact.user_id = user.user_id I would normally get a result array like this: [username] => 'bob', [contact_id] => 5, [user_id] => 2, [firstname] => 'bob', [lastname] => 'larsen' But instead I want this: [user.user_id] => 2, [user.username] => 'bob', [contact.contact_id] => 5, [contact.firstname] => 'bob', [contact.lastname] => 'larsen' Does anyone have an idea how to achieve this?     I guess these are all questions that everyone must just know, because I'm not seeing this in the documentation :-D I understand that the public folder is the folder that the world has access to. I know it is the case with the css folder, but in migrating a traditional php website over, will my /images folder, /js folder /mp3s, etc Will those all just also be public folders that will be accessed via the layout or view.phtml pages? Thanks!

    How would you rate each of them in terms of: Performance Speed of development Neat, intuitive, maintainable code Flexibility Overall I like my SQL and so have always been a die-hard fan of ADO.NET and stored procedures but I recently had a play with Linq to SQL and was blown away by how quickly I was writing out my DataAccess layer and have decided to spend some time really understanding either Linq to SQL or EF... or neither? I just want to check, that there isn't a great flaw in any of these technologies that would render my research time useless. E.g. performance is terrible, it's cool for simple apps but can only take you so far

'; exec (@sql) END then in edmx, I add the sp and import function for this sp. the return type is scalars int32. then I want to use this function in code like: int? result = context.MySP(); I got error said "cannot implicitly convert type System.Data.Objects.ObjectResults to int?" If use var result = context.MySP(); then Single() cann't be applied to context.MySP(). How to get the result for this case?

  • Using Entity Framework, how do I specify a sort on a navagation property?

    I have two tables: [Category], [Item]. They are connected by a join table: [CategoryAndItem]. It has two primary key fields: [CategoryKey], [ItemKey]. Foreign keys exist appropriately and Entity has no problem pulling this in and creating the correct navigation properties that connect the entity objects. Basically each category can have multiple items, and items can be in multiple categories. The problem is that the order of items is specified per category, so that a particular item might be third in one category but fifth in another. In the past, I have added a [Sequence] field to the join table and modified the stored procedure to handle it. But since Entity is replacing my stored procedures, I need to figure out how to make Entity handle the sequence. Any suggestions?

The existing object is in the Unchanged state. An object can only be added to the ObjectStateManager again if it is in the added state. Image: I have been told this is the sequence in submitting a child to an already existing parent: Get parent - Attach Child to parent - submit parent. That is the sequence I used. The code above is extracted from an ASP.NET MVC 2 application using the repository pattern.

I have a script in my head that I'm converting to the layout/view for the Zend MVC: <script type="text/javascript"> var embedCode = '<object data="http://example.com" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="385" width="475"><param name="src" value="http://example.com" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /></object>' </script> I first tried to add it is an external file like this (in layout): $this->headScript()->appendFile('js/embeddedVideo.js')->appendScript($onloadScript); <head> <?php echo $this->headScript(); ?> </head> Didn't really work, but anyway, I'm wanting to just add the script and not add it as an external file.   • Entity framework (3.5): How to translate a certain LINQ query to eSQL?

    Hi there, I have the following LINQ query that I need to translate to Entity SQL /eSQL): return (ObjectQuery<User>) from user in Users where !user.Roles.Any(r => r.AnIntegerProperty < 0) select user; User.Roles is an navigation property to the n:m relation to Roles and there also is a Role.Users navigation property the other way round. There aren't User_Roles or Roles_User Entities available in the model, and I can't add these. I also can't use the LINQ statement here, because I need to add .OrderBy("it." + propertyname) (comes from another source, can't change that too) later on which is not possible if the ObjectQuery is build with linq. So how do I translate this to eSQL? And where can I find good eSQL samples? I searched for a whole day until now and must admit that eSQL reference is lousy and there aren't any usable examples around the web.

  • where should I put the EF entity and data annotations in asp.net mvc + entity framework project

    So I have a DataEntity class generated by EntityFramework4 for my sqlexpress08 database. This data context is exposed via a WCF Data Service/Odata to silverlight and win forms clients. Should the data entities + edmx file (generated by EF4) go in a separate class library? The problem here then is I would specify data annotations for a few entities and then some of them would require specific MVC attributes (like CompareAttribute) so the class library would also reference mvc dlls. There also happen to be entity users which will be encapsulated or wrapped into an IIdentity in the website. So its pretty tied to the mvc website. Or Should it maybe go in a Base folder in the mvc project itself? Mostly the website is data driven around the database, like approve users, change global settings etc. The real business happens in the silverlight and win forms apps. Im using mvc3 rc2 with Razor. I'm looking for Redistributable to our enterprise customers. We control the hardware so it doesn't have to work perfectly on every device. Display strings and numbers in columns with headings. Scrollable, but no paging. Don't row editing. Need to add and delete rows. User re-sizable column widths, and a way to persist that. Work with .NET CF 2.0 or 3.5 on Windows CE 6.0 Any suggestions on grids or toolkits?

  • IBM Worklight v6.1.0.1 : Error when using Ionic Framework with Worklight and run on IOS environment

    I have created demo app using Ionic with Worklight and it worked on Android but got error on IOS, when i used mobile browser simulator and debugged on IOS environment, i got the folowing error message: Uncaught InvalidCharacterError: Failed to execute 'add' on 'DOMTokenList': The token provided ('platform-ios - iphone') contains HTML space characters, which are not valid in tokens.
