• Problem with jquery-droppable in Chrome

  I have a simple application that users jquery-ui's draggable and droppable. In Firefox, it works perfectly. In Chrome, however, I'm having problems. This is the code: $(".cell").droppable({ drop: function(event, ui) { var originalTarget = event.originalTarget; ... } }); In Chrome the 'event' object is of type 'Object' (using Chrome Dev Kit), and event.originalTarget is 'undefined'. What am I doing wrong?

• Windows in StreamInsight: Hopping vs. Snapshot

  Three weeks ago, we explained the basic concept of windows in StreamInsight: defining sets of events that serve as arguments for set-based operations, like aggregations. Today, we want to discuss the so-called Hopping Windows and compare them with Snapshot Windows. We will compare these two, because they can serve similar purposes with different behaviors; we will discuss the remaining window type, Count Windows, another time. Hopping (and its syntactic-sugar-sister Tumbling) windows are probably the most straightforward windowing concept in StreamInsight. A hopping window is defined by its length, and the offset from one window to the next. They are aligned with some absolute point on the timeline (which can also be given as a parameter to the window) and create sets of events. The diagram below shows an example of a hopping window with length of 1h and hop size (the offset) of 15 minutes, hence creating overlapping windows:   Two aspects in this diagram are important: Since this window is overlapping, an event can fall into more than one windows. If an (interval) event spans a window boundary, its lifetime will be clipped to the window, before it is passed to the set-based operation. That’s the default and currently only available window input policy. (This should only concern you if you are using a time-sensitive user-defined aggregate or operator.) The set-based operation will be applied to each of these sets, yielding a result. This result is: A single scalar value in case of built-in or user-defined aggregates. A subset of the input payloads, in case of the TopK operator. Arbitrary events, when using a user-defined operator. The timestamps of the result are almost always the ones of the windows. Only the user-defined  operator can create new events with timestamps. (However, even these event lifetimes are subject to the window’s output policy, which is currently always to clip to the window end.) Let’s assume we were calculating the sum over some payload field: var result = from window in source.HoppingWindow( TimeSpan.FromHours(1), TimeSpan.FromMinutes(15), HoppingWindowOutputPolicy.ClipToWindowEnd) select new { avg = window.Avg(e => e.Value) }; Now each window is reflected by one result event:   As you can see, the window definition defines the output frequency. No matter how many or few events we got from the input, this hopping window will produce one result every 15 minutes – except for those windows that do not contain any events at all, because StreamInsight window operations are empty-preserving (more about that another time). The “forced” output for every window can become a performance issue if you have a real-time query with many events in a wide group & apply – let me explain: imagine you have a lot of events that you group by and then aggregate within each group – classical streaming pattern. The hopping window produces a result in each group at exactly the same point in time for all groups, since the window boundaries are aligned with the timeline, not with the event timestamps. This means that the query output will become very bursty, delivering the results of all the groups at the same point in time. This becomes especially obvious if the events are long-lasting, spanning multiple windows each, so that the produced result events do not change their value very often. In such a case, a snapshot window can remedy. Snapshot windows are more difficult to explain than hopping windows: they represent those periods in time, when no event changes occur. In other words, if you mark all event start and and times on your timeline, then you are looking at all snapshot window boundaries:   If your events are never overlapping, the snapshot window will not make much sense. It is commonly used together with timestamp modification, which make it a very powerful tool. Or as Allan Mitchell expressed in in a recent tweet: “I used to look at SnapshotWindow() with disdain. Now she is my mistress, the one I turn to in times of trouble and need”. Let’s look at a simple example: I want to compute the average of some value in my events over the last minute. I don’t want this output be produced at fixed intervals, but at soon as it changes (that’s the true event-driven spirit!). The snapshot window will include all currently active event at each point in time, hence we need to extend our original events’ lifetimes into the future: Applying the Snapshot window on these events, it will appear to be “looking back into the past”: If you look at the result produced in this diagram, you can easily prove that, at each point in time, the current event value represents the average of all original input event within the last minute. Here is the LINQ representation of that query, applying the lifetime extension before the snapshot window: var result = from window in source .AlterEventDuration(e => TimeSpan.FromMinutes(1)) .SnapshotWindow(SnapshotWindowOutputPolicy.Clip) select new { avg = window.Avg(e => e.Value) }; With more complex modifications of the event lifetimes you can achieve many more query patterns. For instance “running totals” by keeping the event start times, but snapping their end times to some fixed time, like the end of the day. • Help making userscript work in chrome

  I've written a userscript for Gmail Pimp.my.Gmail & i'd like it to be compatible with Google Chrome too. Now i have tried a couple of things, to the best of my Javascript knowledge (which is very weak) & have been successful up-to a certain extent, though im not sure if it's the right way. Here's what i tried, to make it work in Chrome: The very first thing i found is that contentWindow.document doesn't work in chrome, so i tried contentDocument, which works. BUT i noticed one thing, checking the console messages in Firefox and Chrome, i saw that the script gets executed multiple times in Firefox whereas in Chrome it just executes once! So i had to abandon the window.addEventListener('load', init, false); line and replace it with window.setTimeout(init, 5000); and i'm not sure if this is a good idea. The other thing i tried is keeping the window.addEventListener('load', init, false); line and using window.setTimeout(init, 1000); inside init() in case the canvasframe is not found. So please do lemme know what would be the best way to make this script cross-browser compatible. Oh and im all ears for making this script better/efficient code wise (which is sure there is)

• Emacs 23.2 opens a new window for each compile error/warning navigated to

  I've recently upgraded from Carbon Emacs (v22.3) to vanilla Emacs 23.2 (from http://www.emacsformacosx.com). On Carbon Emacs when compiling a project, The frame is split in two with the current source file/SConscript in the top window, and the compile output in the bottom window. I'd hit C-x ` to navigate to the first warning or error in the compile output and it would replace whatever was in the top window with the source file the error or warning is in. In Emacs 23.2, however, a 3rd window is opened causing two windows open in the top half of the frame (split vertically) and the compile output in the window of the bottom half of the frame. How do I tell Emacs to not open a new window and instead open the code in the the existing non-compiler output window in the frame? A little further clarification on the behavior that I just noticed. If I hit C-x ` while the buffer containing the source file or SConscript file is active, no new window is opened. It's only if I'm manually navigating through the *compilation* buffer and hitting enter on an error or warning, or mouse clicking on a warning when a third buffer window appears.

• Program To Cascade/Tile Windows

  I have perhaps ten or fifteen windows open. I'd like a program which automatically resizes all the windows and arranges them in columns and rows across the screen (a grid formation), automatically figuring out the largest size for the windows so that they still fit. This isn't an "Expose" type program - I want the windows to stay resized. I am using OpenBox to do my window management and am otherwise happy with it, I don't want to find a whole new window manager just to solve this problem. The program Tile is almost perfect, but it doesn't know how to lay the windows out in a grid formation. Any thoughts? Thanks!

• Mouse not clicking properly

  Okay guys, here's a tricky one. I'm running 10.10 on my pc but i've had this issue for some time now.I'm having strange issues with the mouse. What happens is when I get into Ubuntu, I can click anything, but as soon as I click something to open a window, run a program, I can no longer click anything EXCEPT the last thing I clicked. When I right click the last thing I clicked, it allows me to click everything normally, but only until I open something new. So for example I'll click the email icon on docky to open up my email client, which opens but is unresponsive until I right click docky. Then if I open an attatchment, I must also right click the MENU bar on my email client. Sometimes it also works if I simply right click on the newly opened window. I have tried this mith mutiple mice and still the same issue.

• Program/Wrapper (how do you call it) to automate a certain script

  In this question a script is provided, that minimizes all the other windows except the active one. But the thing is, to trigger this script a (shortcut) key-combination has to be pressed. I would love it, if it would be possible to automate this behavior, i.e. no matter what I do, only the active window is not minimized. This way I cannot view more then one open window at the same tine, which is what I'm after. Is it possible to write a script, that does this ? I a question I asked a while ago (where I learned about the above script), someone said, the proper way to do this, would be through a wrapper through which every program starts. I would also be very happy with a more sloppy solution, like activating this script 100 times per second (simulating pressing the shortcut combination a 100 times per second), if it is feasible - although I was warned, that that may not be a very good idea.

• Why does this page look different between IE, Firefox & Chrome

  In Firefox it looks just like I want it to look, in IE it looks "a bit weird", and in Chrome it's all twisted. What non-standard HTML I am using that makes it looks so different between browsers? Specifically, how can I fix the Chrome & IE versions to look more like Firefox? Note that Chrome only goes haywire if all or almost all columns have the yellow stickies. If one or two columns are empty, then Chrome displays the page just like Firefox. The full HTML is at this pastebin.

• Jquery image slider window resize scaling issue

  Hi, I have created image gallery slider, the images of which scale with the window size. My problem is I can't seem to create the right formula to ensure that the slider is at the right position when the window is scaled. If I am at the first image and the slider 'left' offset is 0 then the scaling works fine and my offset is correct, however when I am on image two and my slider is offset by say -1500 and then the window is resized, the slider is then at the wrong offset. Taking this into account I figured I could just add / subtract the new window size difference from the slider offset and therefore have everything in the right position. I was wrong. It works for the first two images but then If I am at the end of my slider on the last image I get a nice big gap between the end of the last image and the border of the page. Can someone please show my where I am going wrong please?   In my application there are only 2 windows — win_a & win_b, on each of these windows there is button that call another window, e.g. click on btn1 of win_a will call win_b, click on btn2 of win_b will show win_a. Desired behaviour: 1. Only one instance of object is premitted at the same time, e.g. situation, where 2 instances of win_a running at the same time is not permitted. When you click on button that calls windows that already exist this action will only change a focus to needed window. If you call a window that previously had been created, but after this has been closed this action will create a new instance of this window. E.g. there are 2 running windows. you close one of them and after try to call this window back, so related button will create it. How to write it in WPF (XAML + C#). For the moment I wrote a version that can create a lot of instances of the same window (no number of instances control implemented), but I want to see only one instance of the same window, as we can see it in a lot of applications.   I am using Gnome 3. After upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, "Ctrl-Alt-S" was reclaimed for use in toggling the shaded state of a window. I have checked the following places, and I haven't been able to find any instance of a keybinding set for toggling the shaded state. System Settings / Hardware / Keyboard / Shortcuts (as per How do I disable Ctrl+Alt+s to minimize a window?) I even tried setting a different shortcut. Made no difference. dconf-editor (now deprecated, from what I've found) gconf-editor/gsettings What am I missing?

• Office for Mac 2008 suspicious behaviour

  Office for Mac 2008 just asked me whether I wanted to update. However, on continuing with the update, a Window popped up saying that I needed to close Chrome before the update could continue. I find this rather suspicious, since Office should not need to go anywhere near Chrome. Any idea why there might be a legitimate reason for this, or alternatively, just what is Microsoft trying to sneak on to my computer? EDIT: I did look at the download details on Microsoft's website, but aside from the general guff about closing all open applications, it doesn't mention anything about Chrome or any browser plugins.

• Keyboard Shortcuts for Google.com

  I can ALT+TAB to Chrome, then CTRL+T to a new tab, then type my request and hit ENTER, but then when I want to look into the first search result I need to take my hand off the keyboard to click it?? Surely someone can recommend a plugin which enables me to just press 1 to go to the first search result, 2 for the second, etc. Or something like that? EDIT: This Greasemonkey script offers precisely what I want, and appears to install perfectly well on Chrome - but doesn't work at all :( Also, I'm using Google Chrome 4.0.249.43 on 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10.

This is a specific question for OSX. Chrome has a built in task manager under "Tools" to look at the process within Chrome, extremely beneficial in locating a stuck page. What is the similar feature in firefox?   I'm using the Chrome Browser. I enjoy the "automatic filling" that it uses to fill in things like my address when I'm shopping online. Sometimes I get a message that says: "This webpage has disabled automatic filling for this form" Is there a way that I can tell Chrome to ignore what the webpage wants and just give me what I want? • aptana/eclipse blocks other apps

  Hi, I've got a fresh win7 installation, the only apps installed so far are aptana (beta 3)/eclipse and firefox + chrome (except antivirus and drivers) Every time I start aptana, chrome and firefox are blocked, so firefox can't load a webpage (or sometimes takes veeeery long) and chrome doesn't even take care of events (so for example hovering over a link doesn't change the cursor and a click does...nothing or typing in an url, press enter - nothing happens) First I thought, aptana downloads something and blocks my internet connection... but IE works well and also there are no signs in the taskmanager (cpu%, network or memory) When I close Aptana, all works as before. I tried updating Java, which didn't help... On my office-computer I use the same apps and it works perfect. Got any ideas? TIA, waquner

• Unexpected "waiting for localhost"?

  So I ran into something that kind of worried me today. Lately my computer has been kind of slow and I'm dealing with that, but today when I opened Facebook in Google Chrome, I noticed a message in the bottom left corner while it was loading the site that said "Waiting for localhost". It was brief and I managed to notice it because my computer is slower than it used to & it caused Chrome to hang briefly, long enough for me to read it. As I'm quite confident in that Facebook isn't running on my localhost, I'm wondering what could potentially make Chrome wait for localhost while I'm loading webpages from external servers. Is there a malware of some kind that I should be worrying about? Unfortunately I have no other information than this to go on, and I have no idea how to further investigate this, if it generated any logs or whatever. I'd appreciate any help in figuring out this matter!

  This question is similar this one which covers Firefox, but I want to know how to do it in Chrome: I want Chrome to clear cookies from all sites accept those from certain domains. In the Cookies section of the *Content Settings I've made following selections: (*) Allow local data to be set (recommended) ( ) Allow local data to be set for the current session only ( ) Block sites from setting any data [ ] Block third-party cookies and site data [x] Clear cookies and other sites and plug-in data when I close my browser After logged in to my preferred website(s), I find the required domains listed when I click at All cookies and site data. Let's say, I find some cookies for mysite.comand www.mysite.com. Now I click at Manage exceptions and enter these items: Hostname Pattern Behavior ------------------------------------------- mysite.com Allow www.mysite.com Allow Unfortunately, this does not seem to work, because when I close Chrome and reopen it, all cookies are gone, even those from the configured mysite.com hosts.

• Problems with ATI propietary driver in Ubuntu 12.10, window trail and screen does not update

  I have problems with the Ati propietary driver (fglrx). I have an iMac (mid 2011) with a Radeon HD 6900M [1002:6720]. I did not have any problem under Ubuntu 12.04, but since I updated to 12.10, I get some annoying graphic corruption. The worst one is that sometimes the screen does not update with the new information. It happens a lot when I change between tabs in Chrome or Sublime Text. It usually gets updated when I scroll the page. Sometimes, when I type, I have to wait a little bit to view the new characters. And I get trails when I move windows too (like a part of the window). After a while, the trail disappears. I tried to install fglrx, fglrx-updates and the new beta driver downloaded from Ati (12.11 Beta 11/16/2012), with no luck. It happens the same with all of them. I tried to mess with Compiz config, but it didn't fix anything. The open source driver does not suffer this problem, but I need the performance of the propietary driver . Do you have clue? Thanks.
