  Hi, Im trying to calculate the percentages of selected fields from tables. Within the fields that data is numeric but I want to show the percentage value. • Setup requires .NET 4.0 - System already has .net 4.0

  Hi all, I created a service which I now want to install to test, I created a setup program from the templates in VS2010. When running the setup program it prompts me to download and install .net fw 4.0, but I already have it installed. I did try to just install the file that I get pointed to (4.0 cliet), but not only does it still not work, it causes vs2010 to throw an unknown error and can't open. I've now uninstalled everything (including vs2010 beta) and started afresh with VS2010 ultimate trial full version, framework 4.0 and win 7 but it still prompts me to install fw 4.0 when I try to run the setup. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanx in advance Willem

• Why can't I log in with "claimid.com" as an OpenID?

  Hi, I need to implement a relying party for Open ID in a load balanced environment. Following the suggestions found here I have tried passing null to the OpenIdRelyingParty constructor. The results are somehow not consistent. If I use www.myopenid.com as a provider it works. If I use www.claimid.com as a provider I get the following exception: ProtocolException - No OpenID endpoint found. This exception is thrown on the CreateRequest method call even in a non balanced environment (my local workstation). Any idea what can I do to make it work for both providers ?

• Why does my 64-bit IIS app pool show 3 gigabytes more virtual memory than private memory?

  I have an ASP.Net application that I am running on 64-bit IIS 6 on Windows XP x64. When I open performance counters after one page hit of a trivial page, I see a Private Bytes of about 88 megs, but a Virtual Bytes of about 3 Gigs. When I try the same thing with a VERY trivial ASP.Net app, I get the same result. We see something similar on Windows Server 2003 in production -- there it is an issue because we recycle when the virtual memory consumed outgrows a limit. Before we make any changes to our recycling settings, we'd like to answer the following questions: Why does the app pool grab such a large hunk of virtual memory? Is the amount of virtual memory headroom the app requests configurable? Thanks! Brett

  Hi, I'm using access 2007 and i am trying to set up a database to act as a library system, i need a function that automatically calculates a date 14 days after a given date i.e. Loan Date vs. Due Date. But the library is open only on certain Days. So i need the 14 days not to include the dates that are out of hours, like weekends and school holidays etc. I think i need to use Select Case or IIF's? • Why can't I input the integers from a file?

  I'm trying to get this C++ code to input a series of numbers from a text file: int x = 0; cin >> x; ifstream iffer; int numbers[12]; iffer.open("input.txt"); for (int i = 0; i < 12; i++){ iffer >> numbers[i]; } This doesn't seem to work on the Mac. Every cell will equal to 0 regardless of the values in the text file. In other words, the ifstream isn't assigning the numbers. How can I make this work? • ClearCase: Versioning at file level

  Hi, I have a perculier problem about how to maintain a clearcase project. This project is a xml schema repository where each schema has a version. This repository is common and is used by all the apps in the enterprise. From clearcase prespective the project has a single component. Now the apps can be using different versions of the schema(s). So we are trying to figureout a way to setup the project in such way that a project can have a baseline of what versions of these files are included in a build. The only way we know of how to do this is to create a component for each schema or group of schemas and create a stream for each app to include the components they use. But that would result in too many components. Has anyone dealth with something like this before? We are prepared to restructre the whole project if necessary, so we are open to any idea. • FileUtils.mv adding linebreaks in Windows

  I am streaming wav data from a flash application. If I get the data and do the following: f = File.open('c:/test.wav') f << wav_data.pack('c'*wav_data.length) f.close The wav file works perfectly. If I do this: f = Tempfile.new('test.wav') f << wav_data.pack('c'*wav_data.length) f.close FileUtils.mv(f.path, 'c:/') The file is there, but sounds all garbled. Checking in a hex editor shows that everywhere the working file had an 0A (or \n), the garbled version had 0D0A (or \r\n) I am using this in conjuction with rails+paperclip, and am going to be using a combination of Heroku and S3 for the live app, so I am hoping this problem will solve itself, but I'd like to get this working on my local machine for the time being. Does anybody know of any reason FileUtils.mv would be doing this, and if there is a way to change its behaviour?

• Software to Tune/Calibrate Properties for Heuristic Algorithms

  Today I read that there is a software called WinCalibra (scroll a bit down) which can take a text file with properties as input. This program can then optimize the input properties based on the output values of your algorithm. See this paper or the user documentation for more information (see link above; sadly doc is a zipped exe). Do you know other software which can do the same which runs under Linux? (preferable Open Source) EDIT: Since I need this for a java application I will now invest my research in java libraries like jgap. Other ideas and links would be appreciated!

• Hibernate vs JPA vs JDO - pros and cons of each?

  I'm familiar with ORM as a concept, and I've even used nHibernate several years ago for a .NET project; however, I haven't kept up with the topic of ORM in Java and haven't had a chance to use any of these tools. But, now I may have the chance to begin to use some ORM tools for one of our applications, in an attempt to move away from a series of legacy web services. I'm having a hard time telling the difference betweeen the JPA spec, what you get with the Hibernate library itself, and what JDO has to offer. So, I understand that this question is a bit open-ended, but I was hoping to get some opinions on: What are the pros and cons of each? Which would you suggest for a new project? Are there certain conditions when it would make sense to use one framework vs the other?

  I'd like to migrate my svn repository from my local computer running windows and VisualSVN 2.1.2 to an svn app on webfaction (my Linux hosting solution). Initially I tried dumping the svn: svnadmin dump *path_to_repository* *dumpfile_name* and loading it on the Linux machine svnadmin load *dumpfile_name* I received the following error: svnadmin: Can't open file '*dumpfile_path_and_name*/format': Not a directory I found that on my Windows machine I do have a format folder under the repository. So I copied the entire repository to the Linux machine and tried: svnadmin load *path_to_repository_copy* I received the following error: svnadmin: Expected FS format between '1' and '3'; found format '4' what should I do?

• Best practices for large solutions in Visual Studio (2008)

  We have a solution with around 100+ projects, most of them C#. Naturally, it takes a long time to both open and build, so I am looking for best practices for such beasts. Along the lines of questions I am hoping to get answers to, are: how do you best handle references between projects should "copy local" be on or off? should every project build to its own folder, or should they all build to the same output folder(they are all part of the same application) are solutions folders a good way of organizing stuff? I know that splitting the solution up into multiple smaller solutions is an option, but that comes with its own set of refactoring and building headaches, so perhaps we can save that for a separate thread :-)

• Creating custom contact page -- page-contact.tpl.php (Drupal)

  I'm new to Drupal. I want to create a contact page, so I copied page.tpl.php and renamed it to page-contact.tpl.php. I created some new elements in the page, so I can see that if I click on the "contact" link, I'll know that I went to the correct page. Right now I don't see any change. Was there something I missed? Do I need to do something in the admin settings so Drupal knows which file I need to open? I also tried clearing my cache.

• Need strategy to phone home to a Pyton web app and check licensing information for a commercial Wind

  What's a good strategy for building licensing checking into a Windows desktop app using a Python web application? This is a very open ended question because I don't have the slightest clue how to start to build this feature. What I do have is a number of general concerns: I have developed a commercial Windows desktop application and I want to make money from it but I don't want to build the licensing into the app since it's inevitable that someone will create a keygen or a crack, circulate it online and then it's 'game over' for me. So my idea was to create a web application where people could purchase a license key that is generated by the web app and every time the desktop application is started up, it will 'phone home' to the web app to check whether the license is valid and whether it seems to be in use at multiple locations. I'm just not sure how to do this. Would appreciate any general technical strategies and/or pointers to libraries/modules that might be of use.

• Execute C++ exe from C# form using Process.start()

  Hi, I'm trying to create a C# form app that will allow me to use all of my previous C++ programs from one central program. I'm able to open the exes with Process.start, however it does not compile the code correctly. Example code: Process.Start("C:\\Documents and Settings\\dan\\Desktop\\test.exe"); This will bring up the console and act like it's running, but it does not run like when I normally compile out of the C++ editor. Is there a startinfo variable I need to set to signify that it's a c++ program or something along that line? Also, is there any way to execute a C++ program using process.start that will allow me to pass it variables through the command line via argc and argv? Thanks

  In Google Maps v3, I can't seem to get my infoWindow to a width smaller than 200px.   Context: Master server (Java, TCP) monitoring a list of hosted games (a different machine for the master server and for each hosted game server). Any user can host a game on his PC. Hosted games can last weeks or months. Need: Knowing when hosted game servers are closed or no longer reachable. Restriction 1: Can't rely on hosted servers' "gone offline update message", since those messages may never arrive (power down, Internet link cut, etc.) Restriction 2: I'm not sure about TCP's built-in keep-alive, since it would mean a 24/7 open socket with each hosted server (correct me if I'm wrong) Any thoughts?

  Hey I have run into the following problem when attempting to build a program in java which executes commands on a remote linux server and returns the output for processing... Basically I have installed Cygwin with an SSH client and want to do the following: Open Cygwin, Send command "user@ip"; Return output; Send command "password"; Return output; Send multiple other commands, Return output; ...etc... So far: Process proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:/Power Apps/Cygwin/Cygwin.bat"); Works nicely except I am at a loss as to how to attempt the next steps. Any help?
