  • Setting up Raid 1 Array for Home Server

    I'm not sure if this is even possible, but it's worth asking on here! Essentially I have a old machine at home (well, not old hardware wise, but I recently built a new gaming rig), which I decided to install a copy of W2008 R2 on and use as a file/backup server and media center'ish machine. As of now, it has a single drive partitioned into C and D, with D being the Data partition. I have happened to find an old 1TB SATA drive lying around at home, and was wondering if it's possible to setup a Raid 1 array in my rig within Windows without needing to lose everything on my first drive (or maybe even just mirror a specific partition, say the Data partition, as this is just what stores my photos etc). Maybe this isn't possible, but you never know :) Regards, T.C

  • "Can't find root filesystem / error mounting /dev/root" when booting to new kernel

    I am trying to upgrade my kernel from 2.6.18-274 to 2.6.39 for some wireless card drivers. When I boot into the new kernel I get the "Can't find root filesystem / error mounting /dev/root" googling led me to this page http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_kernel_problems#Can.27t_find_root_filesystem_.2F_error_mounting_.2Fdev.2Froot From what I am reading seems to be an issue with a driver for my SATA controller or HD, but I can't find what option I need to add to the kernel. Doing a diff from the old initrd to the new one gives me the following: root-> diff /tmp/kafter /tmp/kbefore 6a7,8 > lib/dm-message.ko > lib/dm-region_hash.ko 8a11 > lib/dm-raid45.ko 13d15 < lib/dm-region-hash.ko 16a19 > lib/dm-mem-cache.ko Do I need any of those? not sure if I would need dm-raid45.ko as I am not running a raid. I have the same SATA and IDE options configured for both kernels so not sure what else to look for, any help is appreciated.   • What's the best language to use for a simple windows 7 dynamic gui desktop app [closed]

    [Note: I hope I am not breaking etiquette, but I originally posted a variant on this question here, but am re-asking here because I am making this now solely a question about programming.] I would like to program of the following simple form: The user can produce X number of resizable frames (analogous to HTML frames). Each frame serves as a simple text editor, which you can type into and save the whole configuration including resized windows and text. The user should be able alternately "freeze" and present the information, and "unfreeze" and edit frames. Thus it will be a cross between a calendar and a text editor. I don't particularly care if it is a web application or not. What languages are ideal for such a setup? I know some C and Python and Html, and am willing to learn others if need be. It seems to me this should be a relatively easy program to make, but I need a little direction before starting. EDIT: My OS is Windows 7.

  • Completely replacing (upgrading) a RAID 5 array of disks on an ESXi server

    I have a development server that runs several VM on ESXi 5. It has an array of disks in the RAID 5 configuration where all of the disks are currently the same size. I would like to expand storage on this box greatly, but I am not sure what the smartest way to go about this would be. My current plan is to: Turn off all VM Copy VM folders from server to another location Verify that I can mount all the VM on the new location (ie that the copy went ok) Replace all the disks with new, bigger ones Reinstall ESXi5 Copy the VM back over This seems like it might take a while to accomplish and is not terribly slick, especially since I will have to reconfigure ESXi 5, but is there a smarter alternative?

It enjoy the look on audience faces when they see the app actually work on actual device. I see a great opportunity on WP7 and everyone I met agrees on the fact the WP7 has a very bright future ahead. The Ecosystem which WP7 has (developing/ debugging tools, emulator, almost flat learning curve,  office/sharepoint integration a lively forum, marketplace) makes it a major player in mobile, already.   • My WD passport detected but not shown on my computer

    1TB WD harddisk is detected in laptop but drives not visible on my computer. Under disk managment drives shown without letters. Right clicking on these drives give 2 options: Delete volume Help. The same harddisk was running well on the same laptop a day before. It is also showing full size of hard drives, Healthy (Primary Partition) etc. (this happened after harddisk usage by guest). Harddisk is new only (about 5 month usage) Please suggest: Is there hardware related problem inside harddisk, if so is it repairable? Is there any option to recover data?

  • How long do uploaded files stay in the tmp folder in Linux Ubuntu?

    I am building a web application where my users will be able to upload files. After the files are uploaded I need to send the files to two other servers, and after they will be deleted from the server where they were just uploaded to. I am wandering is it a good I idea to keep the uploaded files in the tmp/ folder the time the uploaded files are sent to the other two servers or should I move them to another folder incase they get deleted? I am also wandering because I would like to know if I have to build a cron script to get rid of the files that have been transfered to the other servers so that I get my disk space back.

  • XP: cannot assign a letter to a FAT32 partition

    I have an external hard disk, where I have created many partitions to use also in Linux. The first two partitions are FAT32. The third is a Truecrypt Partition. I cannot assign a letter to the second partition. When I go to Manage disk and make right clic on the unassigned partition, most of the items are not enables.   • Disable RAID Controller

    I have some decent HP Proliants server that come with "HP Smart Array P410i Controller" enabled, I am using these boxes to set up a Hadoop cluster and I know, RAID is for sure a no-no for Hadoop since the application itself will take care of data redundancy and extra intelligence provided by RAID won't be helpful and might turn down the performance. I tried to disable the devices at the BIOS and the box cannot even access the disk afterwards. So I am assuming the controller is sitting between disks and mother board, and we have to turn it on and configure it to "level0" or something like that. I am wondering what should I do to "disable" the RAID functionality so it will fit into the Hadoop environment.

  • Transfer Raid Drives to External Enclosure

    I have 2 raid disks (a grand total of 360GB) in my laptop. I'm fast running out of space and want to install new drives. I've a pretty good idea how to do this. My question is what can I do with the drives that I remove? I've got lots of media files on these drives that I'd like to keep and maybe transfer back onto my laptop once I have the new drives installed.   • need help connecting to bitbucket repository with sourceTree on windows 8

    I'm having trouble adding and cloning my repo on bitbucket to the sourceTree app, we're only starting with this now and we're a small company, so there's not much knowledge around this. now I've gone through The documentation on sourceTree for help, but I've noticed when I select my repo on bitbucket, it uses the repo url I select and appends a .git at the end. Then a notice message says This is not a valid source path / URL, but when I click Details... I get a dialogBox with nothing in it and an ok button. and when I'm done entering the details the 'Clone' button remains disabled. Is this Windows 8 or am I actually doing something wrong? Now I usually use ubuntu, but we just got these new ASUS ultrabooks at work and it's a pain to install any linux Distro on here. So I'm stuck with windows 8

  • Rsync and Windows 7

    Can someone give me any tips on setting up some sort of Rsync server/client on Windows 7 to run rsync between both my web hosting server, and a backup server that I have running Ubuntu? I've tried setting it up with this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvwdkZLNtnA Using copssh, and cwrsync. Ran into all sorts of troubles, including not being able to get cwrsync to run (it installs properly, but never starts up), and copssh not generating the keys at all. The guy was running Windows Server 2003, though, so I'm guessing the problems could just be because I'm running Windows 7. I've been trying to set it up with my Windows machine being the rsync server, and then Ubuntu and my webhosting VPS as the clients, but I realize it may be easier (and make more sense) to just setup the rsync server on Ubuntu, and then an rsync client on Windows 7? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm thinking of using this guide: http://www.gaztronics.net/rsync.php It seems a bit outdated, though.
