• Scaffold default files are the best practice?

  Hey, i have some experience with MVC. but I'm new to rails. I'm using the scaffold command to generate some default files. The model looks clean and nice, but the controller and the views aren't really dry. The contents of new.html.erb and edit.html.erb are almost the same and the methods new/edit and create/update are doing almost the same thing. In other frameworks i've used only one view for updating and creating new entries and also the same method in my controller by setting the id as an optional parameter. Do they use this structure to keep things RESTful (i have not much of a clue about rest :()? Is it the best practice to use this default stuff for crud?

• Ontology and same individuals

  I am having a problem with "same individuals property" in protege, when i run a reasoner (pellet 1.5 or fact++) Lets take ontology example thing has class sons A and B, A has sons C and D. B, C and D have individuals of the same class. Cant i say a individual C is "same individual" as individual B, and then add also individual D is "same individual" as individual B. Wich is true, they have diferent names, but they are same individual.. Why does it only work when i set individual B has "same individual" of type C or D? The protege error is "InconsistentOntologyException:Fact++.Kernel: inconsistent Ontology" and pellet says ontology is inconsistent. EDIT: Seems its a more deep rooted problem, this example works :(, gonna keep checking. EDIT2: After some more experimenting, seems its a conflict with DataType properties. They all share a DataType properties with same name. In the example domain of property would be A and range string. Any idea how to solve?

• View bound to paged collection view not updating all of the time.

  I new to silverlight and trying to make a business application using the mvvm pattern and ria services. I have a view model class that contains a PagedCollectoinView and it is set to the item source of a datagrid. When I update the PagedCollectionView the datagrid is only updated the first time then after that subsequent changes to the data to not reflect in the view until after another edit. Things seem to be delayed one edit. Below is a summarized example of my xaml and code behind. • Delete records from table which matches the data in an array?

  I have a table of 2 fields. Word and timestamp. Then i have this array which contains some words. How do i delete all the records in the table which match with the words in the array? Suppose that the model is called "Word". Any ideas on how to achieve this? maybe loop through the array and run some destroy queries. Can anybody direct me here? thanks

• C++ : Lack of Standardization at the Binary Level

  Why ISO/ANSI didn't standardize C++ at the binary level? There are many portability issues with C++, which is only because of lack of it's standardization at the binary level. Don Box writes, (quoting from his book Essential COM, chapter COM As A Better C++) C++ and Portability Once the decision is made to distribute a C++ class as a DLL, one is faced with one of the fundamental weaknesses of C++, that is, lack of standardization at the binary level. Although the ISO/ANSI C++ Draft Working Paper attempts to codify which programs will compile and what the semantic effects of running them will be, it makes no attempt to standardize the binary runtime model of C++. The first time this problem will become evident is when a client tries to link against the FastString DLL's import library from a C++ developement environment other than the one used to build the FastString DLL. Are there more benefits Or loss of this lack of binary standardization?

• Linked XSD files in Visual Studio 2010 - How to work with a file in the Unauthorized Zone

  I am trying to view a 3rd Party's XSD file in Visual Studio 2010. The XSD file is stored on my local drive. It includes another XSD file, which is stored in the same folder on my local drive. Visual Studio (or perhaps the underlying .Net framework) will not process the included XSD file, because it is in an "unauthorized zone". This much is explained in the following MSDN blog. Does anybody know how I can authorize this included file, so I can see it in the beautiful new content model view?

• Refreshing metadata on user functions t-SQL

  I am doing some T-SQL programming and I have some Views defines on my database. The data model is still changing these days and I have some table functions defined. Sometimes i deliberately use select * from MYVIEW in such a table function to return all columns. If the view changes (or table) the function crashes and I need to recompile it. I know it is in general good thing so that it prevents from hell lotta errors but still... Is there a way to write such functions so the dont' blow up in my face everytime I change something on the underlying table? Or maybe I am doing something completely wrong... Thanks for help

• acts_as_taggable_on and auto_complete returning no results

  I'm using acts_as_taggable_on in a model, and am trying to implement the auto_complete plugin. It seems as though I have everything hooked up correctly, but the search isn't returning any results. • Sending email from Drupal contact form, but GMail marks it as "Forged"

  Hi, My Drupal site sends email to a GMail account, but the emails sent all go into the Spam folder, and GMail puts up a bar with the message "This message was likely forged and did not originate from your account." Although I can create a filter to prevent them going to Spam, I want to start sending newsletters, and I suspect they'll have the same problem. I suspect the problem is with the way I've set up either PHP or Drupal to send mail. As far as I know it's just using the sendmail function. I've set the from address to "info@..." where ... is the site domain. Any tips on how I can make set up my outgoing mail so it won't be refused by GMail (and presumably other major mail providers)?   I recently ran across this open-source project: http://www.codeplex.com/Sculpture Sculpture is a code-generator which allows you to design your domain model and then use persistence 'molds' such as NHibernate/EF and probably more to generate repositories. It takes care of all the mapping and Data access generation. It looks like it does a heck of a lot more, but i'm pretty much sold at this point. However, i would like to know if anyone here used this for real-world solutions. If so, how well does it scale? How did the generated DAL work for you?

  I'm building a public website which has its own domain name with pop/smtp mail services. I'm considering giving users the option to update their data via email - something similar to the functionality found in Flickr or Blogger where you email posts to a special email address. The email data is then processed and stored in the underlying database for the website. I'm using ASP.NET and SQL Server and using a shared hosting service. • ASP.NET + GoDaddy Free Hosting?

  Has anyone successfully been able to deploy ASP.NET website to GoDaddy's free hosting? I am talking about free hosting that comes with a domain package from GoDaddy. The catch of the free hosting is having an annoying Google Ads banner in a frame on top of the page. I've searched Google, stackoverflow and GoDaddy forums but I can't find anywhere the solution to my problem. When I upload a ASP.NET website to GoDaddy, it gives me an error - something about TrustLevel. Someone told me that by default asp.net websites have Full Trust Level which GoDaddy doesn't allow. I've even tried changing Trust Level to Medium manually, but with no luck. What may be the problem?

• Zend Framework command line see errors

  I'm using a method outline by gregor (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/143320/create-cronjob-with-zend-framework) to create command line execution for parts of my application such as cron jobs, admin tasks, and the like. It works, however, no errors get reported when I create a new object that has not been defined (misspelling) and other such mistakes. I would have thought that php would report an error, but it fails silently. What is the reason for this? Is there a better way to achieve my goal? Or how can I implement this so that I can see errors? Many thanks!   I am not sure how to use StructureMap to scan for all repositories in a particular namespace.   I am able to get the registration confirmation email to send out in deployment on Heroku, but when I try a registration on localhost:3000, I get the following error: undefined local variable or method `confirmed_at' for #<User:0xb67a1ff0> In my config/environments/production.rb file I have: config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => 'xxxx.com' } And I have an initializer file with the following format: ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :user_name => "[email protected]", :password => "xxxxxx", :domain => "xxxx.com", :address => "smtp.sendgrid.net", :port => "xxx", :authentication => :plain, :enable_starttls_auto => true }; What settings do I need to get the localhost working? • Umbrella websites with Microsites & Blogs - recommendations

  Hi guys, I'm in the process of scoping a solution for an events organisation. Their main website features information about them and blog entries etc, but they hold major events which require microsites (domain.com/event). The microsites all have a different look-and-feel, different nav structure, and custom content-managed components. The one thing that's common across everything is the blog - it will have a category for each event under which users can post. How would you guys implement this? The solution needs to be PHP, and my initial thought was CodeIgniter but if possible I'd like to avoid building the blog functionality - so I guess I could integrate it with EE or Wordpress. If anyone has any other suggestions they would be most appreciated.

  Yes, I've read and done teh Google many times but I still can't get this working... maybe I'm an idiot :) I have a system using tickets. Start date is "created_at" in the timestamps. Each ticket closes 7 days after "created_at". In the model, I'm using: def closes (self.created_at + 7.days) end I'm trying to create another method that will take "closes" and return it as how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds are left before the ticket closes. Anyone want to help and/or admonish my skills? ;)

• Incremement Page Hit Count in Django

  I have a table with an IntegerField (hit_count), and when a page is visited (ie. http://site/page/3) I want record id 3 'hit_count' column in the database to increment by 1. The query should be like: update table set hit_count = hit_count + 1 where id=3 Can I do this with the standard Django Model conventions? Or should I just write the query by hand? I'm starting a new project, so I am trying to avoid hacks. We'll see how long this lasts! Thanks!

• Parsing a CSV File to a Rails Database

  G'day guys, I'm using fasterCSV and a rake script to parse a csv with about 30 columns into my rails db for a 'Trade' item. The script works fine when all of the values are set to strings, but when I change it to a decimal, int or other value, everything goes to hell. Wondering if fasterCSV has built in int etc parsing or whether I'll have to manage these within my model. Basically, I'm given a giant amount of trades data, need to import it, and then need to provide feedback with say the average trade volume, the times, etc. I understand I can do that all with the wonderful records provided to me by activeRecord but wondered if there was an easier way to populate a rather large Database with a given CSV? Several of the fields don't have values for certain rows, fasterCSV seems to work perfectly when they're all strings, but not when I try to get decimal or other.

If say, I request to a web page in different domain with AJAX, it is not allowed because of the Cross side scripting error. But why is it allowed to access via a server side page. For e.g. we can use CURL in php to access any site.? Why is this feature OK for server side scripting and NOT OK for Client Side Scripting?

  I have an ActiveRecord model class Foo that has_many Bar. I want to clone a Foo (to get duplicates of most of its attributes) and then modify its Bar instances. This is a problem because cloned ActiveRecord instances share the same associated array; changes to one affect the other. f1 = Foo.new b = Bar.new f1.bars << b f2 = f1.clone f2.bars.includes? b # true f1.bars.clear f2.bars.includes? b # now false The real problem is that I can't detach the bars arrays from either Foo: f1.bars << b f2.bars.includes? b # true f2.bars = [] f2.bars.includes? b # now false f1.bars.includes? b # now also false If I could do that, then I could replace the Bars as I wanted to. However, any change to one Foo seems to affect the other.
