• Ubuntu 12.04 LTS , Dell d410 output to External Monitor/TV with docking

  I am not able to see the video output on My external monitor/TV after installing 12.04 LTS. I had the same issue with 11 versions also. This issue does not happen on 10.04 LTS version. This is my setup. Dell latitude D410 with Intel Mobile 915 GM/910GML express controller using the Dell docking station Connecting to my 42inch TV with DVI (from Docking) to HDMI cable (on TV) If i close the lid, some times i am able to see the video output on TV, but the resolution is making the fonts so small, i cannot even see it and when i click displays option to change the resolution, the output goes off completely and it is shown now on the laptop screen. one time, i got the output on both the screens, but i am not able to replicate that scenario even after trying the Fn+F8 key option on my laptop. earlier some time back when i ran version 11.x ubuntu, i was able to get the output on both the screens (basically mirrored output) with large font resolution on my TV using the monitor Test tool as mentioned here :http://www.bigfatostrich.com/2011/05/solved-ubuntu-11-04-broken-external-display/ The problem with this approach is that i have to do it every time i restart the machine and more over the video output is present on both the screens (mirrored), which is of no use. As i stated before, this does not happen with 10.04 LTS. With 10.04 LTS my laptop screen is off automatically and the output is seen on TV/external display. Can anyone share any options that i can try? How can we achieve the behavior of 10.04 LTS with respect to the External display on 12.04 LTS . Thankyou very much for your help in advance.

• How do I stop my ethernet network connection from dropping?

  My ethernet-based network connection doesn't stay up consistently. I'm running a ping against the gateway and it will: Work for a minute Freeze, time out, or give multi-second response times Repeat If it's stuck and I disable/enable networking through the network manager applet everything will work fine again for a minute. After 280 packets transmitted I'm getting 41% packet loss. I've tried a different cable and connection to the gateway but this had no effect. The distance to the gateway is just about 3 feet. Seems to work fine if I switch over to Windows, but Ubuntu is my main OS and I can't even use it right now as I depend on the network. My setup... OS: Ubuntu 11.04, dual-booting Windows 7 Mobo: Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3 CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K Edit A little clarification... Network Manager is still showing me as connected, but I am unable to reach to gateway or anything beyond. At no point does NM suggest the connection is lost and calling ifconfig shows that I still have an IP address. • Frequent Disconnects with an Intel 3945ABG Wireless Card

  I'm brand new to Ubuntu, and I really love it so far, but one issue I have encountered is that my WLAN is disconnecting about every 5-10 minutes. Often times the connection is repaired automatically, but sometimes the network manager will repeatedly reject my encryption key (which of course is correct). Occasionally after a disconnect, the wireless network fails to show up at all. The only way I can solve this seems to be by completely restarting Ubuntu or connecting with a USB wireless adapter. I am using WPA/WPA2 encryption, which I've read can cause problems with network-manager, but I experience the exact same issues with WICD. I should probably note that I've not experienced any of these issues using Windows 7 on my other partition. I have a hunch that there may be a better driver out there for my card, but I have no idea how to go about searching for it or installing it. Any help would be really appreciated! lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.   I have seen similar question on this SE site but none comes close to a sure shot answer and many are rather subjective. So i am taking a website as an example to be more objective for you to decide its development price i should quote for the complete work.I would like to have specific figures. In past I have developed many projects for my classmates (Computer science and few .net) when i was in college and there i just arbitrarily quoted the price i will take depending on my mood and customer's ability to pay.. usually ranging from Rs.500 (about $10 USD) to Rs. 1500 (about $30 USD). I have also developed few websites but that was open-source and free. But this time impressed by my work i have got a client that wants to get a website developed similar to this: [ http://www.jeetle.in/ ]. So taking this website as an example tell me how much should i charge for complete work from designing to payment gateway implementation (Excluding the charge the payment gateway provider will take). Few information you might like to consider. I am the only developer on this project if that makes any difference. And i would be using ASP.Net and MSSQL Express for server side processing and jQuery on client. Time period for development offered is about 4 to 6 Weeks.   Today I started some experiments with Oracle guru Steven Davelaar, who lives about 20 minutes away from my place in Amsterdam by underground. Very convenient. He showed me a bunch of things in JDeveloper, while I showed him a bunch of things in NetBeans IDE. He managed to deploy an ADF application to GlassFish in JDeveloper. And, so far, I failed to do the same thing in NetBeans IDE. Quite a few (around 100) JARs are needed, aside from the question of correctly setting up or importing an ADF application, and we're still figuring out which and who and when and where. And how. And if. And why. Nonetheless, I did manage to get Oracle DB set up in NetBeans IDE, after downloading it from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/express-edition/downloads/index.html Here's what it looks like when registered in NetBeans IDE, i.e., notice that I have a cool sample database available:   Data from the above database I managed to display very easily via the various NetBeans code generators in a PrimeFaces application, exactly as has been done many times in demonstrations and tutorials everywhere, i.e., generate JPA entities, then create an EJB, then inject the EJB into a PrimeFaces data table: The next step is to somehow do the same with ADF in NetBeans IDE.   I often get asked following question? “How much data SQL Server can handle?” Every single time when I get this question – I ask back following question - “How much data your storage system can handle?” The reason I ask this question back is because in reality for enterprise systems the limitation of storage is no more an issue. The Matter of the fact most of the database is now a days limited by the size of the storage system. SQL Server is enterprise system and it is very mature product. Even though if you still want to know what is the actual limit here is the answer. SQL Server 2008R2, 2012 and 2014 have maximum capacity of 524 PB (Petabyte) in the Enterprise, BI and Standard edition. SQL Server Express has a limitation of 10 GB due to its nature. I guess, now when you look at my question it will make sense that it is all depending on the size of your storage system. I personally believe at this point of time 524 PB is quite a huge data, but we never know after 10 years when we read this blog post, we all may think what was I thinking actually. • Is there any simple game that involves psychological factors?

  I need to find a simple game in which several people need to interact with each other. The game should be simple for an analysis (it should be simple to describe what happens in the game, what players did). Because of the last reason, the video games are not appropriate for my purposes. I am thinking of a simple, schematic, strategic game where people can make a limited set of simple moves. Moreover, the moves of the game should be conditioned not only by a pure logic (like in chess or go). The behavior in the game should depend on psychological factors, on relations between people. In more details, I think it should be a cooperation game where people make their decisions based on mutual trust. It would be nice if players can express punishment and forgiveness in the game. Does anybody knows a game that is close to what I have described above? ADDED I need to add that I need a game where actions of players are simple and easy to formalize. Because of that I cannot use verbal games (where communication between players is important). By simple actions I understand, for example, moves on the board from one position to another one, or passing chips from one player to another one and so on.

• Dlink DWA-643 ExpressCard / Atheros AR5008 can't connect to wifi networks

  I've just purchased a D-Link DWA-643 Xtreme N ExpressCard Notebook Adapter - but it can't connect to my wireless network The card is listed on the FSF website and - refer links below: http://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/index_html/net/wireless/index_html/cards.html http://www.dlink.com.au/products/?pid=550 Ubuntu see the card as using the Atheros AR5008 chipset - refer image below The card lights up and I can see that available wifi networks using this card - so it seems to 'just work' on ubuntu 12.04 but when i try and connect to my networks - it fails I've tried setting the network to all the different options (WEP, WPA2, no encryption, etc.. b/g/n ) but ubuntu sill cant connect to it I've also installed wicd but still couldn't connect Has anyone got a DWA-643 to work in Ubuntu? Or does anyone have any suggestion on how to get it to connect?? Any help would be greatly appreciated Note: the laptop has built in wifi but its broadcom, works but with dialup speed connection - and i've had nothign but trouble using the boardcom drivers so purchased the FSF recommended PCI expresscard as i hoped it would 'just work' on the latest Ubuntu i've have tried to disable the built in wifi - broadcom - but even with the broadcom uninstall and unavailable it didnt help the dlink to connect previously I had MAC address filtering on the router - i've added the dlinks MAC - and also disabled MAC address filtering - still no luck lspci output below: 18:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. • Have unit test generators helped you when working with legacy code?

  I am looking at a small (~70kLOC including generated) C# (.NET 4.0, some Silverlight) code-base that has very low test coverage. The code itself works in that it has passed user acceptance testing, but it is brittle and in some areas not very well factored. I would like to add solid unit test coverage around the legacy code using the usual suspects (NMock, NUnit, StatLight for the Silverlight bits). My normal approach is to start working through the project, unit testing & refactoring, until I am satisfied with the state of the code. I've done this many times in the past, and it's worked well. However, this time I'm thinking of using a test generator (in particular Pex) to create the test framework, then manually fleshing it out. My question is: have you used unit test generators in the past when commencing work on a legacy codebase, and if so, would you recommend them? My fear is that the generated tests will miss the semantic nuances of the code-base, leading to the dreaded situation of having tests for the sake of the coverage metric, rather than tests which clearly express the intended behaviour in code.

• usb wifi dongle on ubuntu server, cannot install realtek driver RTL 8188cus

  I got cheap Ebay wifi dongle from HongKong, Im trying to set it up on my ubuntu server. Occasionally need to move server, so it cannot always be connected to router via lan. Anyhow, usb wifi came with a driver cd.   When Netcat integrated into OpenSolaris it was already clear that there will be couple of enhancements needed. The biggest set of the changes made after Solaris 11 Express was released brings various I/O enhancements to netcat shipped with Solaris 11. Also, since Solaris 11, the netcat package is installed by default in all distribution forms (live CD, text install, ...). Now, let's take a look at the new functionality: /usr/bin/netcat alternative program name (symlink) -b bufsize I/O buffer size -E use exclusive bind for the listening socket -e program program to execute -F no network close upon EOF on stdin -i timeout extension of timeout specification -L timeout linger on close timeout -l -p port addr previously not allowed usage -m byte_count Quit after receiving byte_count bytes -N file pattern for UDP scanning -I bufsize size of input socket buffer -O bufsize size of output socket buffer -R redir_spec port redirection addr/port[/{tcp,udp}] syntax of redir_spec -Z bypass zone boundaries -q timeout timeout after EOF on stdin Obviously, the Swiss army knife of networking tools just got a bit thicker. While by themselves the options are pretty self explanatory, their combination together with other options, context of use or boundary values of option arguments make it possible to construct small but powerful tools. For example: the port redirector allows to convert TCP stream to UDP datagrams. the buffer size specification makes it possible to send one byte TCP segments or to produce IP fragments easily. the socket linger option can be used to produce TCP RST segments by setting the timeout to 0 execute option makes it possible to simulate TCP/UDP servers or clients with shell/python/Perl/whatever script etc. If you find some other helpful ways use please share via comments. • Centrino Wireless-N 1000 takes forever to connect and keeps asking for password

  A few days ago I started having this problem. When I tried to connect to any WiFi Connection it would stay connecting forever, and after a minute or so it would ask me for the password again. The strange thing is that this happened out of nowhere, I did not install any new drivers or anything like that. After this happened I decided to uninstall ubuntu and install it again ("inside windows") but the problem is still there. • At the time of installing ubuntu, i am getting dark black screen only

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS dual boot with Windows 7, but when i click on Try or even Install ubuntu, i am getting black screen only. I can't see any text or anything else. When i see my Laptop's screen from close look, ubuntu in the middle of screen shown but screen is dark black. So because of this i am unable to install Ubuntu on my laptop. Please help in this regard. Following deatails of my laptop. Details of my Laptop: Manufacturer- Acer Aspire 4736 Processor- Intel core 2 duo CPU T660 Graphics driver- Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family (Microsoft corporation - WDDM 1.1), Current version installed- 8.15.10.2302 In ubuntu 11.04 i know how to boot into nomodeset, but i don't know how to boot through nomodeset in ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Because there is no option shown for F6 key. My laptop is Acer aspire 4736, and my Video/Graphics card shows unknown by ubuntu. Please someone help me. Can changing or upgrading my laptop's graphic card solve this problem..?? If yes then, which graphic card should i go for which is supported by Ubuntu and other Linux distros? Please someone help.

• How to connect two ubuntu computers with ethernet cable

  I'm trying to connect with ethernet cable two computers - desktop and laptop. What I want to do is transfer a lot of data from one to another. The problem is that I'm doing everything from: How to network two Ubuntu computers using ethernet (without a router)? But after that, ping always gives me "Destination host unreachable". I was searching a while but couldn't figure out what is a reason it doesn't work, maybe it's something about my devices or maybe someone will have another idea. Ethernet cable I got with my router. • WordPress injection?

  I don't really know how to express my problem, so bear with me. This is a bit hard to explain. I have a Wordpress installation, the latest, and often (once a day) my site redirects users to the /wp-admin/install.php file. Asking for my login credentials of course. I have tried reinstalling WordPress and still have not been able to figure what they are doing. That happens regularly. Also, a few hours later, I am able to see my site normally. Hope this makes sense. I suspect there myst be some database DoS that allows them to inject a redirect of some sort into my admin area, thus redirecting the user to said directory (install.php). But that's just me. I really have no clue what else could they be doing. I looked at the source code from several php files and noted some of them don't include a ? tag. Could that be an issue? My hosting company is iPage, I've contacted them and they say there's nothing wrong with my files. Anyone have a clue? I can paste the code to any source file.
