• SSPI Errors for SQL Server Authentication?!

  We have several old ASP and PHP web applications which use SQL Server Authentication. Periodically, all the applications lose the ability to connect to our SQL Server 2000 database server, getting access denied. Corresponding to roughly the same times, we are getting 1115 Cannot generate SSPI Context SQLSTATE HY000 errors on the SQLServer 2000 server. And here's the weird part - rebooting the web server fixes the problem. Rebooting the database server has no effect. This makes no sense to me - I didn't think SSPI was in any way involved with SQL Server Authentication. Any ideas? Edit: Some additional details: The web server is in the DMZ. The hosts file on the web server has an entry for the database server (and the ip address is correct), so the web server (theoretically at least) shouldn't even be going to DNS to connect to the database server. It does not appear to be a firewall issue.

  I want to change my repository from bazaar to git. I installed Git (winXP) and tortoise with no problem, I set path variables, etc... I have initialized my repository with: git init copied it using cd .. git clone --bare project.git uploaded it to FTP, and when trying to access: git clone *ftp_address* Initialized empty Git repository in D:/project/.git/ Password: error: Access denied: 530 while accessing *ftp_address*/info/refs fatal: HTTP request failed I checked and .../project.git/info/refs does not exists. • How can I tell what files are currently open by a process (i.e. my app)?

  I am using a Lucene.Net index and want to give the user an option to move the index, but am having trouble closing it down so the directory/contents can be moved (I keep getting access denied exceptions). I need to be able to have some more information so I can debug this problem, such as being able to tell what files are currently open, and as much information about each use as possible. Alternatively, is there any way to simply force close a bunch of files so they can be moved? This would make things a lot easier to solve.

  fopen function is not working in php. • Is it possible to suppress the IE standard login dialog when Windows Authentication is enabled?

  Hello, i have a web application with Windows Authentication enabled. In my web.config I restrict the access with the following code: <authorization> <allow users="rba\eigg"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> When I call the application in a browser, the IE's standard login dialog pops up and if I close it by cancel I get the HTTP 401 (Access is denied) error page. Is there a way to suppress the login dialog so that the user gets the 401 error page directly? Thanks! Rocko

  Just a Question Regarding unix and PHP today. What I am doing on my PHP is using the Unix system to untar a tarred file. exec("tar -xzf foo.tar.gz"); Generally everything works fine until I run into this particular foo.tar.gz, which has a file system as follows: Applications/ Library/ Systems/ After running the tar command, it seems that the file permissions get changed to 644 (instead of 755). This causes Permission denied (errno 13) and therefore disabling most of my code. (I'm guessing from lack of privileges) Any way I can stop this tar command completely ruining my permissions? Thanks. Oh and this seems to only happen when I have a foo.tar.gz file that Has this particular file system. Anything else and I'm good.

  Hi all, when I try to copy any file with scp on Mac OS X Snow Leopard from another machine I get this error: scp [email protected]:/home/me/file.zip . Password: ... ---> Couldn't open /dev/null: Permission denied this is the output of "ls -l /dev/null": crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 3, 2 May 14 14:10 /dev/null I am in the group wheel, and even if I do "sudo scp..." it doesn't work.   My company produces a cross-platform server application which loads its configuration from user-editable configuration files. On Windows, config files are locked down at Setup time to allow reading by all users but restrict editing to Administrators only. Unfortunately, on Windows Server 2008, even local administrators no longer have admin privileges (because of UAC) unless they're running an elevated app. My question is: if a Windows Server 2008 admin wants to edit an admins-only config file, how does he normally do it? Is he forced to use a text editor which is smart enough to auto-elevate when elevation is needed, like Windows Explorer does in response to access denied errors? Or is there something that we can do in our app (e.g. in ACLs we lay down at setup time) which signal apps (or explorer) that elevation is needed before editing the file or which otherwise make our app friendlier to admins running on modern Windows OS's?

  I'm looking for an equivalent of nginx http auth request module but for Apache. For each incoming HTTP requests, the module sends a subrequests to authentication/authorization back-end. Th auth request carries a path and all headers of the original request. Based on the result of the auth request, the original requests is allowed (HTTP code 200), denied (HTTP code 403) or login is requested (HTTP code 401). Such a generic mechanism allows to build really flexible authentication and authorization schemes. Is something like this possible in Apache (likely with a help of some third party module)?

• Should a company prevent employees from publishing an app in an appstore in their free time?

  My company is trying to pass a policy forbidding distribution of any application (even free) in any appstore for all developers. Their reasoning is that "outside work activities create a conflict of interest". They don't want that "you use your spare time to work on your app, and once it takes off you quit your job" (quoting the Head of Development). A few developers (myself included) have already said it was an abusive, pointless and most of all counter-productive policy (developers will actually be demotivated to work here under such control and to be denied of the freedom to distribute their project). Personally, I think it is actually in the interest of the company to promote side projects (even commercial activities, if there is no conflict). I'm also curious, is that common practice?

Later, I changed the JQuery source link to be: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.js I refreshed the web page, and I could saw the returned value then.

• Can I prevent a user from using windows task manager to end a process?

  I have a c# 4.0 application that I hear grumblings and rumors about problems with. Now, this application has a global unhandled exception handler that reports back to me with errors. I also know that it works because SOME people fill it in, and submit it. It seems though; that a large number of people do NOT fill it in, but instead, use the Windows Taskmanager to end the process. Is it possible to prevent a user from using the Windows Taskmanager to end a specific process? My goal would be that if the application crashes, the form that the user is presented with prevents the process from being ended. I'll also accept steps that would prevent the Windows Taskmanager from being launched. I know I have seen some processes come up with an "Access Denied" prompt when I try to kill it in TaskManager, however I suspect that the windows team has made this very difficult, if not impossible to achieve.

• Rails + Passenger CSS problem

  I'm trying to deploy my first Rails app. At first, I was getting the following error: ActionView::TemplateError (Permission denied) I set the permissions of the stylesheets folder to 777 (just for now until I work out what's going wrong) and the application started to work. However, it is not picking up any of the stylesheets (everything is displayed in plain text). If I view the source code and click the CSS links, I just get a blank page. Javascripts however, seem to be working just fine. VHost Config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName xxxx.xxx.com DocumentRoot /home/myapp/public <Directory /home/myapp/public> Allow from All AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Can anyone help? • Live Mesh has screwed up my file permissions

  I got the bright idea of using Live Mesh to sync up my development directories between my laptop and desktop machines. It appears that the permission on any new files that are added through Live Mesh do not inherit permissions from the parent directory. Now I cannot overwrite the permissions on those files. I keep getting an "Access is Denied" error when attempting to do so, even if I am running Windows Explorer as administrator. I have two questions: How can I modify the file permissions to allow them to inherit again? Has anyone used Live Mesh to do this sort of thing? Or should I be using FolderShare instead?

• How do I download an attachment from an annotation using client-side JScript?

  I'm trying to provide a link to the attachment of a note through the client-side JScript. The standard MS-made Notes component does this through the following url: [serverurl]/[appname]/Activities/Attachment/download.aspx?AttachmentType=5&AttachmentId={blahblahblah}&IsNotesTabAttachment=1&CRMWRPCToken=blahblahblah&CRMWRPCTokenTimeStamp=blahblahblah The problem is that I don't know how to get the Token or TokenTimeStamp, so I'm receiving an Access Denied error ("form is no longer available, security precaution, etc"). The only other way I can think of doing this is through the OData endpoint, but that would at best get me a base64 string that I still would have translate into a filestream to give to the browser (all of which seems like it would take forever to implement/figure out).   I would need to create a php file that will do some work on my webserver and that will be called from a program on another server over the internet. Suppose the php file that will do the work is located at www.example.com/work.php What is the best way to protect unsollicited calls to the www.example.com/work.php? What I need is some mechanism so that when the intended program accesses the url (with some query string parameters), the work gets done, but if somebody type www.example.com/work.php in their browser, access will be denied and no work will be done. The way I've thought is to add some 'token' in the querystring that would be constructed by some algorithm from the calling program, a sample result could be to append to the url : ?key=randomKeyAtEachCall&token=SomeHexadecimalResultCalculatedFromTheKey and the key and token would be validated with a reverse algorithm on the php side. Is that safe, Are there any better idea?

  I've been following the guide posted here, trying to get this Hello, World program to run on my Samsung Galaxy S3. It's rooted already, and I successfully pushed the "hello" file onto the sdcard. Now when I enter the shell as the superuser (# instead of $), and try to run the file, I get "cannot execute - permission denied". I used chmod 755 hello to see if that would fix it, still nothing. Is there something I'm missing? This is my first time fiddling around with Android, just got the phone, and wanted to see if I could get this to work. Very new to it all. Thanks!
