  • Enum.HasFlag method in C# 4.0

    Enums in dot net programming is a great facility and we all used it to increase code readability. In earlier version of .NET framework we don’t have any method anything that will check whether a value is assigned to it or not. In C# 4.0 we have new static method called HasFlag which will check that particular value is assigned or not. Let’s take an example for that. First I have created a enum called PaymentType which could have two values Credit Card or Debit Card.     I was trying to do it with "getElementsByTagName", but it wasn't working, I'm new to using DOMDocument to parse HTML, as I used to use regex until yesterday some kind fokes here told me that DOMEDocument would be better for the job, so I'm giving it a try :) I google around for a while looking for some explains but didn't find anything that helped (not with the class anyway) So I want to capture "Capture this text 1" and "Capture this text 2" and so on.   • How to get sound on macbook pro 4,1

    I have just installed Xubuntu 12.04.2.   • Computer starts, POSTs normal, no video

    So, I recently tried to start up an old computer of mine. It would not power on, so I replaced the PSU. When I powered it on, all the fans spun up and the POST beeps indicated a normal startup. The problem was there was no video output. Every couple of minutes, I hear the post code again. I think it is restarting after POST, but without video I have no idea why. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening, and how to fix it? EDIT: The video card is a PCI-e card. There is no integrated graphics on the motherboard. If I remove the video card, the POST indicates a missing card. When I put it back, it goes back to normal, so I know that it recognizes that the card exists.

    Implementing remember me with Stripe, while not using their Checkout (not supported on PhoneGap), seems to be fine using the path: First time: Request token on the client side using card info. Create customer on server side using token. Upon confirm, charge customer. Second time: Check if current user is Stripe customer by requesting the info from our server. If is Stripe customer, show "use credit card on file" instead of regular CC form. Upon confirm, charge customer. However, there is one important convenience items missing--last four digits of card number. Most sites inform you of the card you're using before making the payment, pretty important in case you have to switch out cards. I have seen that you can retrieve charges which would allow me to get the last four digits. Is it bad practice to pull that and display it? Are there alternative solutions anyone has in mind?

    I would like to create a generic logging solution for my stored procedures, allowing me to log the values of input parameters. Currently I am doing this more or less by hand and I am very unhappy with this approach. Ideally, I would like to say something like the following: "given my spid, what are my input parameters and their values?" This is the same information exposed to me when I run SQL Profiler -- the stored procedure's name, all input params and all input VALUES are listed for me. How can I get my hands on these values from within a stored procedure? Thanks; Duncan

  • ubuntu integrated graphics suspend + hybrid graphics

    My laptop uses a hybrid graphics hardware. Using the vgaswitcheroo I am able to power off either card and switch between them correctly. The issue is that the system wakes up/resumes from suspend correctly only when using the discrete graphics, or atleast the discrete graphics must be powered on even if the display is connected to the onboard intel card. Has anyone faced this issues? Is there any workaround? I only want to use the integrated card and not the discrete amd card. System Info Intel HD 3000 ATI mobility radeon HD 7600M Ubuntu 12.10

  • How to manage two video cards on a laptop that runs Ubuntu 10.10?

    I have a laptop with two video cards. One ATI and on integrated Intel. On Windows, I can choose which video card I want to use. For example, I use the Intel card for normal use and for gaming, I switch to my ATI card for better performance, but a shorter battery life. In Ubuntu 10.10, only the Intel driver is installed, the ATI driver for my card doesn't work at all and there's heat coming out of my computer all the time, like when I'm playing video games on Windows. I think both cards are active, but only the Intel one is usefull. How can I solve this by making sure Ubuntu is aware of the two video cards and by disabling my ATI. Or may be I am all wrong about this?

  • How to manage and capture database changes across several developers?

    We have three developers and one tester all working against the same database. We change the schema of the database quite often, and every time we do it tends to have a ripple effect of headaches for everyone else. Are there good practices in place for .NET oriented development against MS SQL Server 2008 for managing this? I am thinking something similar to Rails Migrations and each dev and tester has their own local database. Or is that overkill? It'd at least be nice to have separate test and dev databases, but currently manually keeping two databases in sync is probably worse than our current predicament. LiquiBase seems promising, has anyone successfully used it in a similar environment? Or are there better approaches? We are using SQL Server 2008, VS 2008 and .NET 3.5 if that matters at all.

  • No BIOS, no video after ubuntu updates

    Hello, I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Precision T3500 Desktop machine. Last week, when I ran the regular updates, upon restart my video disappeared. I could not even see the Dell startup screen or enter the BIOS. When I swapped out the video card (for an older one I had around), the system worked again. So Dell sent me a replacement video card. I put that in and everything appeared to be working again. Then, I ran updates again, and the same thing happened. Replacement video card appears to be broken. No startup messages, no BIOS, no video at all. Does anyone know how Ubuntu updates might be ruining the video cards? The card that keeps "breaking" is an FirePro MV2260. Thanks, RC

  • Why does Ubuntu only detect one USB LAN adapters at a time?

    I try to connect real switch with my computer for an exam preparation, for this purpose I need more than one LAN cards, and there is only one built in LAN card in my computer. So, to get more LAN cards, I bought 4 USB Ethernet adapters (as I have 4 usb ports in may laptop 2 usb 2.0 ports, 2 usb 3.0 ports). When I plug these adapters in my computer Ubuntu only detects one LAN card from 2.0 usb ports, and one LAN card from 3.0 ports. And sometimes detects only one USB LAN from all the usb ports. Actually the real problem is Ubuntu shows these USB LAN adapters in the "lsusb", but does not list them in "ifconfig".   • The Apple Passbook

    In a previous job I worked on smart card systems.  Our vision was to replace the physical wallet with a chip card that contained stored value, credit cards, and loyalty cards.  The technology was up to the task, but the business model never worked out.  When all those things go onto a single card, who owns the card and maintains the applications?  Each bank wanted their own card with branding, so instead of consolidating lots of cards onto one, we ended up with the same number of cards, just more expensive chip cards.  The Costanza wallet would not die. More recently I've been able to move lots of these cards into iOS apps using products like CardStar, TripIt, and Fandango.  I guess moving from physical to digital is progress, but still no consolidation.  But this week Apple announced its Passbook, an iOS feature that consolidates boarding passes, loyalty cards, and movie tickets.  Another step in the right direction. We've been waiting for Apple to announce a NFC solution to take advantage of the 400 million credit cards it stores in iTunes for its customers.  Perhaps Passbook is the first step in that direction.  It wouldn't take much to add credit cards to Passbook, then enable secure transfer of the track data using a NFC equipped iPhone.  I've got to think this has to be part of the larger vision, but of course Apple is very secretive. I think the steps will be loyalty, coupons, and then payment when it comes to the evolving Passbook.  Retailers should keep an eye on Apple, and expect these things to happen in the Apple stores first.

  • Which is the best .NET image capture API for me to use?

    I have been tasked with integrating image acquisition into a .NET application and I have been looking for an API to use for performing this function. I have come across several "standard" APIs, some have been in existence for a long time, some not so long. I have looked at references to ISIS, TWAIN, WIA, and SANE (said to be mostly *nix). They all appear to be Win32 libraries except for SANE, and I was wondering what the current recommendations are for talking to image acquisition devices (scanners)? Feel free to recommend something else if you feel it is better. I'm looking for open source options. Edit: I put open source, when what I actually meant was free. using WIA or TWAIN is fine since they are free even though they are proprietary interfaces.

    Currently I have a GeForce 8600GT as a video card. I started playing EVE online and it is not that smooth (Apart from the fact that my Windows 7 is starting to become slow so it needs a format). Now I have these 3 video cards on my mind: 1GB Gainward GF GT240 PCI-Express Video Card 1GB Gainward GF9800GT PCI-Express Video Card 1GB Gainward GF GT240-GS PCI-Express Video Card I tried comparing them from nvidia's site: HelpMeChoose but the GT240-GS is not available for comparison. However, when I tried comparing the GT240 with the 9800GT, the latter was the winner. You must keep in consideration that the cheapest one is the GT2400. The 9800GT is in the middle, and the one which is not available for comparison, the GT240-GS is the most expensive one (about 6 euros more than the 9800GT). Is the GT240-GS the best video card from these? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • How to Identify Which Hardware Component is Failing in Your Computer

    Concluding that your computer has a hardware problem is just the first step. If you’re dealing with a hardware issue and not a software issue, the next step is determining what hardware problem you’re actually dealing with. If you purchased a laptop or pre-built desktop PC and it’s still under warranty, you don’t need to care about this. Have the manufacturer fix the PC for you — figuring it out is their problem. If you’ve built your own PC or you want to fix a computer that’s out of warranty, this is something you’ll need to do on your own. Blue Screen 101: Search for the Error Message This may seem like obvious advice, but searching for information about a blue screen’s error message can help immensely. Most blue screens of death you’ll encounter on modern versions of Windows will likely be caused by hardware failures. The blue screen of death often displays information about the driver that crashed or the type of error it encountered. For example, let’s say you encounter a blue screen that identified “NV4_disp.dll” as the driver that caused the blue screen. A quick Google search will reveal that this is the driver for NVIDIA graphics cards, so you now have somewhere to start. It’s possible that your graphics card is failing if you encounter such an error message. Check Hard Drive SMART Status Hard drives have a built in S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) feature. The idea is that the hard drive monitors itself and will notice if it starts to fail, providing you with some advance notice before the drive fails completely. This isn’t perfect, so your hard drive may fail even if SMART says everything is okay. If you see any sort of “SMART error” message, your hard drive is failing. You can use SMART analysis tools to view the SMART health status information your hard drives are reporting. Test Your RAM RAM failure can result in a variety of problems. If the computer writes data to RAM and the RAM returns different data because it’s malfunctioning, you may see application crashes, blue screens, and file system corruption. To test your memory and see if it’s working properly, use Windows’ built-in Memory Diagnostic tool. The Memory Diagnostic tool will write data to every sector of your RAM and read it back afterwards, ensuring that all your RAM is working properly. Check Heat Levels How hot is is inside your computer? Overheating can rsult in blue screens, crashes, and abrupt shut downs. Your computer may be overheating because you’re in a very hot location, it’s ventilated poorly, a fan has stopped inside your computer, or it’s full of dust. Your computer monitors its own internal temperatures and you can access this information. It’s generally available in your computer’s BIOS, but you can also view it with system information utilities such as SpeedFan or Speccy. Check your computer’s recommended temperature level and ensure it’s within the appropriate range. If your computer is overheating, you may see problems only when you’re doing something demanding, such as playing a game that stresses your CPU and graphics card. Be sure to keep an eye on how hot your computer gets when it performs these demanding tasks, not only when it’s idle. Stress Test Your CPU You can use a utility like Prime95 to stress test your CPU. Such a utility will fore your computer’s CPU to perform calculations without allowing it to rest, working it hard and generating heat. If your CPU is becoming too hot, you’ll start to see errors or system crashes. Overclockers use Prime95 to stress test their overclock settings — if Prime95 experiences errors, they throttle back on their overclocks to ensure the CPU runs cooler and more stable. It’s a good way to check if your CPU is stable under load. Stress Test Your Graphics Card Your graphics card can also be stress tested. For example, if your graphics driver crashes while playing games, the games themselves crash, or you see odd graphical corruption, you can run a graphics benchmark utility like 3DMark. The benchmark will stress your graphics card and, if it’s overheating or failing under load, you’ll see graphical problems, crashes, or blue screens while running the benchmark. If the benchmark seems to work fine but you have issues playing a certain game, it may just be a problem with that game. Swap it Out Not every hardware problem is easy to diagnose. If you have a bad motherboard or power supply, their problems may only manifest through occasional odd issues with other components. It’s hard to tell if these components are causing problems unless you replace them completely. Ultimately, the best way to determine whether a component is faulty is to swap it out. For example, if you think your graphics card may be causing your computer to blue screen, pull the graphics card out of your computer and swap in a new graphics card. If everything is working well, it’s likely that your previous graphics card was bad. This isn’t easy for people who don’t have boxes of components sitting around, but it’s the ideal way to troubleshoot. Troubleshooting is all about trial and error, and swapping components out allows you to pin down which component is actually causing the problem through a process of elimination. This isn’t a complete guide to everything that could likely go wrong and how to identify it — someone could write a full textbook on identifying failing components and still not cover everything.     I have to admit that I can't get enough storage. I have hard drives just sitting around in case I need to move somthing, or I'm going to a friends and either they want something I have or I want something they might have. What I'm going to talk about today is cost effective memory for devices. I don't know how this particualr device will work in a camera, as That's not what I use in my camera, in fact I don't have a camera that doesn't either use SD, or the old compact flash card, that's not so compact anymore. There's this thing that uses two micro sd cards to double the capacity of your memory, and it costs about 4 bucks, without the Micro SD card. I have had one for about a year and was going to throw it away because I couldn't get it to work with my computer, or with my Sony Reader. However I found out by one last ditch effort that this thing works beautifully with my Sony PSP. there is no software to speak of associated with this thing, you simply put in two SD cards of the same size... (if you put in two different sizes it will still work, you'll only double the smallest cards size though) and format through the psp. Viola you know have a 29 GB memory card for your PSP. why is this important ? well for starters you can carry more music and more videos. Second if you have gone the way of the hacker.... you can store more games on your card... There are just a few things you have to note.... I speak from experience... you have to use the usb connection to the PSP to do any file moving, as I said previously said card doesn't play well with my computers or card readers... I not saying it won't work at all, just hasn't work with anything I own. Second. If for some reason you try to Hack/crack your PSP don't attempt to delete a game from the psp, use the usb file browser to remove games. if you delete from the PSP you are likely to have to move all your files off, reformat and start again... just a couple things I have noticed... if I had done something like that.   anyway, Here's a link.... http://www.photofast-adapter.com/  and if you want to buy one, get it off ebay, I've seen them as low as $1.99

For example, if I'm on a page showing a specific product (say /products/1) and it has a link to its vendor (/vendors/12), I want to be able to detect inside the vendors_controller that I came to that page from /products/1. Is there a simple way in Rails to achieve this, so that I could access it via params or session? thanks.

    I'm trying to parse a single string and get multiple chunks of data out from the same string with the same regex conditions. I'm parsing a single HTML doc that is static (For an undisclosed reason, I can't use an HTML parser to do the job.) I have an expression that looks like: $string =~ /\<img\ssrc\="(.*)"/; and I want to get the value of $1. However, in the one string, there are many img tags like this, so I need something like an array returned (@1?) is this possible?

  • Linux PCIE Physical Bus Address

    I am working on designing a custom PCIexpress card. I am trying to write a kernel module that will DMA my custom card. Right now when i plug the card into linux no valid PCI device shows up (meaning I probably have a error on my end, i know) however, If I halt the system at startup in the bootloader (uboot) I am able to directly access the card as I know in uboot the physical memory address that is mapped to my device. Is there a way I can access the card in a simliar fashion in linux? Thanks, Stephanie

  • No sound from internal speaker but headphones OK

    The problem: The system won't play sound on the internal speaker of the laptop, but only on the headphone. When I put the headphone jack half in and fiddle around with it, then it'll play even on the internal speakers (the system apparently believes, that the headphone are in). What should I do?
