Please describe your strategy to handle the following tasks: Implement a feature Fixing bugs (during development and deployed app) Code Review Refactoring code (post code-review) Incorporate patches Releasing the newer version of your app (desktop, web, mobile, would you treat them differently?)   • Copying Android source code directory from one computer to an other one

    I have downloaded the Android source code on my computer using the repo sync command. Since I have no experience with git and repo , I would like to know if it is possible to copy the mydroid directory (which contains Android source code) to an other computer by just burning it on a DVD and then processing the build without problems. Now, the maintainer of the project released a new version, and among new and edited files, there are a bunch of renamed files. Whats is the best way to apply my changes to the new version ? I'm completely new to diff/patch use, and If I can get it done with git, it would be better.

  • Is it possible to determine whose code (according to `git blame`) was affected by each hunk output by `git diff`?

    I have a large cross-cutting commit that I would like to split up according to the authors whose code was affected, both to increase the reviewers' familiarity with the code they're reviewing, and to divide the review burden equitably. I realize that the blame may be mixed within a given hunk, in which case it would be nice to either collect multiple reviewers or just choose the most "blameworthy" one (breaking ties arbitrarily is fine).

  • GCommit doesn't work with fugitive.vim under windows xp?

    I've just discovered fugitive.vim, which is pretty cool. However, I've run into a problem (this is using windows xp, msys git 1.7, fugitive.vim 1.1, and gvim 7.2). Adding files to the index and checking the status works just fine, but when I do a :GCommit, a command prompt flashes for a second and nothing happens. No way to type a commit message and nothing is committed. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong?

    We have a Scala project with few source files (in Scala and Java) and quite some dependencies in various binary formats (jar and DLL). I'm wondering what should go into our shared git repo. Only the source files (developers have to download or somehow resolve the dependencies themselves) or the both the source files and the dependencies? I may add that dependencies are all third parties and available for download for free.

And the group members in turn should create one local repository for each of them, play with the contents and committ the modificatons to the group's local repository.     I'm curious what kind of content should be in a versioned file commit comment. Should it describe generally what changed (e.g. "The widget screen was changed to display only active widgets") or should it be more specific (e.g. "A new condition was added to the where clause of the fetchWidget query to retrieve only active widgets by default") How atomic should a single commit be? Just the file containing the updated query in a single commit (e.g. "Updated the widget screen to display only active widgets by default"), or should that and several other changes + interface changes to a screen share the same commit with a more general description like ("Updated the widget screen: A) display only active widgets by default B) added button to toggle showing inactive widgets") I see subversion commit comments being used very differently and was wondering what others have had success with. Some comments are as brief as "updated files", while others are many paragraphs long, and others are formatted in a way that they can be queried and associated with some external system such as JIRA. I used to be extremely descriptive of the reason for the change as well as the specific technical changes. Lately I've been scaling back and just giving a general "This is what I changed on this page" kind of comment.

    Hey everybody, I am using SVN as my source control with ANKH and TortoiseSVN. I am writing a huge change in a project, and it takes a few days to make the change, but in the meantime I still want to commit once in a while for backup. But if I commit other team members will get updated with my unfinished work. Is there a way that I can "commit for backup" without changing the revision (so other won't get updated with my changes)?     Consider a situation. I want to commit a changed file to SVN and see that someone else committed the same file after I checked it out, so I have to "update" and merge changes. While I'm doing that someone commits the same file again, so when I try to commit the merged file I have to update again. Now if other users commit often enough it looks like I will never be able to commit my changes. Is that really so? How is this problem solved in real development environments?

  • how to change appearance of org-mode files on Github?

    Github supports org-mode files, and has a renderer that parses .org files and converts them to HTML form. Headings appear in larger font, text tables are converted to graphical HTML tables, etc. Is there a way to control the way .org files appear on Github? I tried adding some export options in the usual manner #+OPTIONS: H:2 toc:t but the options are not reflected. Is this possible? If not, is there a workaround to display org-mode files through Github?

  • Installing GitBlit GO as Service in Ubuntu Server 14.04

    I downloaded it (version 1.6.0), unpacked it in /opt/gitblit (ubuntu server 14.04.1), configured http to 8280 and disabled https assigning 0 (I expose it by https using nginx). I created gitblit user and added it to 'sudo' group by running: sudo adduser gitblit sudo (gitblit user has a strong password). I installed it as a service by running: /opt/gitblit/install-service-ubuntu.sh. I tried to start it by running: sudo service gitblit start. The message Starting gitblit server appears. It's the only message. When I hit -in the same local machine- http://127.0.0.1:8280, the connection could not be made. When I run sudo netstat -anp | grep 8280, nothing appears. I see no error messages, but the server is not starting. Question: What am I missing?

  • Google SMTP settings not sending email

    I am having a hard time making the email sending in GitLab to work (changing email in profile settings). My server has exim4, I can tell its working because if I do simple mail() in PHP, it thus sends the email to the recipient. Now, in GitLab seems that it wasn't. So I modified productions.rb to have SMTP settings, and use Google SMTP: config.action_mailer.delivery_method = :smtp config.action_mailer.smtp_settings = { address: "smtp.gmail.com", port: 465, user_name: "[email protected]", password: "hashpassword", domain: "gmail.com", authentication: :plain, enable_starttls_auto: true } I even tried changing the port to 587 and 467 but still it doesn't work. Why is that? Can you please lead me to where I am missing?
