  • msysgit - sh.exe - fork: Permission denied - Vista 64 bit

    I installed msysgit on other Windows machines with no problems. On this Vista 64 bit Ultimate box, I installed the 3 most recent versions of msysgit. On all three installs, when I do a "git bash here", I get exactly this on the command window: sh.exe": fork: Permission denied sh.exe"-3.1$ NThe git command doesn't work. I get the same permission denied message. Any clues as to how to fix this?

  • How do I remove msysgit's right click menu options?

    This isn't the best programming question but lets face it, the server fault guys aren't well versed in git, so I think its more towards this audience. Do I have to write a script to uninstall them? How do I get them to go away, I want to switch to tortoise git, or portablegit in my shell, but I'm left with these annoying menu options.

    Are there command line merge tools for windows? I'm thinking in terms of tools that can be used in conjunction with other tools (e.g. git, unison) to resolve conflicts. Actually, it doesn't need to strictly be command-line based, as long as it "cooperate" with other command line tools (as I mentioned, git for example), then it's fine.

  • merge 1 commit from 1 branch to the master ?

    I read this about git branch: http://book.git-scm.com/3_basic_branching_and_merging.html I have create a branch called 'experimental'. I switch to that branch and make 2 commits there. So if it possible for me to merge the later commit (the 2nd of the 2 commits) of the experiment to the master branch? Thank you.

Given that most of my commits are prefixed with an issue number, I wondered if there is some magic command for searching for the commit SHA from part of its message. I know it's easy to do a git log and work from there, but I want more easy :)

  • Can I push my working directory without first committing it?

    I have my web server set up as a remote git repo, so I can type "git push staging" and my last commit goes live on the server. I used this tutorial to set this up. A lot of the time, I'm testing a new feature, and I want to test several iterations of it on the staging server, before it's ready to quality as a commit. Is there a way to push my working directory to the server without having to commit it first?

  • Getting a list of all children of a given commit

    I'd like to run git filter-branch on all children of a given commit. This doesn't seem to be an easy task, since there doesn't appear to be a way to tell git rev-list to only return children of a particular commit. Using the .. syntax won't work because it will also include the parent commits of any merge within that range. Am I missing something here?

I think the asterix * shows which branch I'm currently on. What does it mean when I get: * (no branch) master origin/HEAD Because when I $git checkout mybranch I expect to see * mybranch master origin/HEAD

  • Globbing in `git checkout`

    Is there any way to implement globbing in git checkout? It would be great to be able to use git checkout re* or even to have tab completion in the shell. I'm using zsh, but an answer that is shell independent would be great. Note: I realize that this is kind of a pipe dream, so... if I needed to implement this myself, must it be done in the shell language itself, or could it be done in, say, Ruby?

    I'm implementing GIT for web developemnt, and I want to have the working copy repository that everybody pushes to automatically reflect the latest commit in it (since it is online for everyone on the team to see as a testing site). Right now, you have to run "git reset --hard HEAD" on the repository after somebody pushes to it in order to be up to date.

  • Why Does DreamWeaver CS5 Discriminate between File Extensions, Even After Modding Mime Types!?

    Hi folks, Even After I forced DreamWeaver CS5 to allow opening of .ast extensions as a MIME type of php5, which DreamWeaver now opens and colors correctly as described here, I still have trouble figuring out why it still discriminates between the two file extensions! Symptoms: External Files & Design View I have a file foo.php which php includes other files (e.g. the php-combined css.php and js.php). Now, when opening foo.php all functions work perfectly: the external (included) php files are all recognised correctly. However, when I change foo.php foo.ast, and open it again, It does not recognise the files extensions anymore in the top bar. Also, I lose the Design / Live View functionality.** When I change foo.ast to foo.php, all works again! Anyone any clues of why there remains a a difference between one and other extension?   • Installing Lubuntu 14.04.1 forcepae fails

    I tried to install Lubuntu 14.04.1 from a CD. First, I chose Try Lubuntu without installing which gave: ERROR: PAE is disabled on this Pentium M (PAE can potentially be enabled with kernel parameter "forcepae" ... Following the description on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE, I used forcepae and tried Try Lubuntu without installing again. That worked fine. dmesg | grep -i pae showed: [ 0.000000] Kernel command line: file=/cdrom/preseed/lubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- forcepae [ 0.008118] PAE forced! On the live-CD session, I tried installing Lubuntu double clicking on the install button on the desktop. Here, the CD starts running but then stops running and nothing happens. Next, I rebooted and tried installing Lubuntu directly from the boot menu screen using forcepae again. After a while, I receive the following error message: The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again. Hitting Enter brings me to the desktop. For what errors should I search? And how? Finally, I rebooted once more and tried Check disc for defects with forcepae option; no errors have been found. Now, I am wondering how to find the error or whether it would be better to follow advice c in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE: "Move the hard disk to a computer on which the processor has PAE capability and PAE flag (that is, almost everything else than a Banias). Install the system as usual but don't add restricted drivers. After the install move the disk back." Thanks for some hints!   • Visual Studio &amp; TFS 11 &ndash; List of extensions and upgrades

    This post is a list of the extensions I recommend for use with Visual Studio 11. It’s coming up all the time – what to install, where are the download sites, last version, etc etc, and thus I thought it better to post it here and keep it updated. The basics are Visual Studio 11 connected to a Team Foundation Server 11. Note that we now are at Beta time, and that also many live in a side-by-side environment with Visual Studio 2010.  The side-by-side is supported by VS 11. However, if you installed a component supporting VS11 before you installed VS11, then you need to reinstall it.  The VSIX installer will understand that it is to apply those only for VS11, and will not touch – nor remove – the same for VS2010. A good example here is the Power Commands. The list is more or less in priority order. The focus is to get a setup which can be used for a complete coding experience for the whole ALM process. The list of course reflects what I use for my work , so it is by no means complete, and for some of the tools there are equally useful alternatives. Many components have not yet arrived with VS11 support.  I will add them as they arrive.  The components directly associated with Visual Studio from Microsoft should be common, see the Microsoft column.   • Gnome extensions don't work! I've tried everything!

    When I go to https://extensions.gnome.org/, and try to install an extension, it clicks on, but nothing happens to my shell. Then, when I reload the page, the slider has turned off. Here are the things I have tried: I tried Chrome, Firefox, and Opera adding http://extensions.gnome.org to my allow plugin list in google chrome and made sure gnome-intigration is enabled I made a new firefox profile and tried installing it I reset my gnome shell settings (How do I reset GNOME to the defaults?) - this link actually broke my system, as now I can't log in to any desktop environment, the only way I can get to Unity, is by logging in to another desktop environment like cinnimon (which doesn't work) , then immediately logging into unity. Whenever I try to just log into unity or pretty much any other desktop environment, it logs in, but then seems to crash, and log out. Sometimes I even get quick glances of the Unity bar before it crashes I tried-re installing gnome None of these methods worked!! Thank you in advance!!
