• NetBeans not liking libraries in lib-src

  I'm working on a project with a group that is using Eclipse, but I'm using Netbeans. Up until today this wasn't an issue. When updating from the repo they have added some source code as a library under a directory called /lib-src. When I try to compile the code I get an error that it can't find certain packages... these are the packages under /lib-src. Using NetBeans I can add the library as a folder so now the references to those packages are happy. • py2app prescripts

  The py2app documentation mentions prescripts, being run by __boot__.py prior to the main python script. I couldn't find a way to easily specify any prescript on the setup.py file or build process. I did however manage to 'hack' __boot__.py manually and add another _run(prescript) command before my main _run(main_script) and it seemed to work fine. It would however be much better using the standard py2app build process. What I'm essentially trying to do is monkey-patch my sites-packages.zip file prior to the main script being launched. The prescript essentially checks for updates on the server, and if there are any, downloads them, and then overwrites the site-packages.zip file. Much quicker than having to re-install the application from scratch. Any ideas?

• How to use numpy with OpenBLAS instead of Atlas in Ubuntu?

  I have looked for an easy way to install/compile Numpy with OpenBLAS but didn't find an easy answer. All the documentation I have seen takes too much knowledge as granted for someone like me who is not used to compile software. There are two packages in Ubuntu related to OpenBLAS : libopenblas-base and libopenblas-dev. Once they are installed, what should I do to install Numpy again with them? Thanks! Note that when these OpenBLAS packages are installed, Numpy doesn't work anymore: it can't be imported: ImportError: /usr/lib/liblapack.so.3gf: undefined symbol: ATL_chemv. This was noticed here already. Answer to the question: Run sudo update-alternatives --all and set liblapack.so.3gf to /usr/lib/lapack/liblapack.so.3gf

• python c extension, problems with dlopen on mac os

  I've taken a library that is distributed as a binary lib (.a) and header, written some c++ code against it, and want to wrap the results up in a python module. I've done this here. The problem is that when importing this module on Mac OSX (I've tried 10.5 and 10.6), I get the following error: dlopen(/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/dirac.so, 2): Symbol not found: _DisposePtr Referenced from: /Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/dirac.so Expected in: dynamic lookup This looks like symbols defined in the Carbon framework aren't being properly resolved, but I'm not sure what to do about that. I am supplying -framework Carbon to distutil.core.Extension's extra_link_args parameter, so I'm not sure what else I should do. Any help would be much appreciated.

  Hi What is the common or best practice to structure the location of your exception classes? Let's say you have the packages/namespaces myproject.person (models and DAOs for persons) and myproject.order (models and DAOs for orders) and the exceptions PersonException and OrderException. Should I put the exceptions in their corresponding packages or in a separate package for exceptions (e.g. myproject.exceptions)? The first approach seems more reasonable (because it's sorted by functionality). But there the question arises where you should put exceptions that are related to both? e.g. a ConstraintViolationException Thanks

• Cannot format first column in WxPython's ListCtrl

  If I set the format of the first column in a ListCtrl to align centre (or align right) nothing happens. It works for the other columns. This only happens on Windows - I have tested it on Linux and it works fine. Does anyone know if there is a work-round or other solution?   I want to put all the requirements of a repoze Zope2 install in a pip requirements file. Most of the repoze packages don't seem to be on PyPi, but there's an alternative PyPi index for them here. But I can't figure out how to tell pip to use that index together with a requirements file. • How do I generate coverage xml report for a single package?

  I'm using nose and coverage to generate coverage reports. I only have one package right now, ae, so I specify to only cover that: nosetests -w tests/unit --with-xunit --with-coverage --cover-package=ae And here are the results, which look good: Name Stmts Exec Cover Missing ---------------------------------------------- ae 1 1 100% ae.util 253 224 88% 39, 63-65, 284, 287, 362, 406 ---------------------------------------------- TOTAL 263 234 88% ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ran 68 tests in 5.292s However when I run coverage xml, coverage pulls in more packages than necessary, including python email and logging packages which have nothing to do with my code. If I run coverage xml ae, I get this error: No source for code: '/home/wraith/dev/projects/trimurti/src/ae': [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/home/wraith/dev/projects/trimurti/src/ae' Is there a way to generate the XML for just the ae package?

We have a requirement to have single package for the installation that will: Show one UI with progress Allow user to choose which features/packages to install Have ability to constrain one feature to another (e.g removing or adding effect other) Support single elevation (UAC) nice to have ability to auto update (not must) support command line + silent installation the package should be built out of the isolated installations (chain them) raise error / messages for missing prerequisites Support patches over time and major upgrades Today we do almost all of the above using MSI with nested installations which is bad practice and we face too many issues in our solution. i know that there are several bootstrappers out there (m$ generic bootstrapper which i think is not good, BURN is the WIX version which is not mature enough) Do you know of other? that work and tested already ? What is the best method to do (without unification of the MSI into a single MSI)

• Eclipse does not recognize Classes of the jar

  I've included a new jar in my jre/lib/ext folder, and updated the Eclipse jre so the Eclipse see the new jar in the default JRE System Library. The trouble is that even showing the jar in the JRE System Library, the Eclipse does not see the Classes. And the worst: Eclipse see tha packages! It don't see only the classes!   I have read two recent posts that discuss Depends and Imports but I have four lingering, related questions: Suppose I want two packages to also be available to the end-user when they load in my package. Is there a good reason not to use Depends in this context? (The point here is to load all three packages via a command that loads just the one package.) Is it okay to specify a package in both the Depends and Imports fields? If a package is listed in Depends, is there a point to also listing it in Imports? Or are the benefits of Imports already negated by using Depends? [Added Question] Is the following correct? A package should be listed in the Imports field of the DESCRIPTION file if and only if the package is imported (in whole or in part) in the NAMESPACE file. Thanks much! David

• Debian Package Control file Question.

  Hello, I need to create a debian package for a java application. In my package there a .jar file which is executable , a script which will run this jar file and a .so file for fmod. I read the tutorial provided at http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/Debian-Binary-Package-Building-HOWTO/ My question is in control file there is a Depends field which basically mentions the packages that need to installed in order to install my application. How do i find which packages are required for my application. I followed the instructions provided in the link for one of the .so and did ~/Desktop/PennTotalRecall/native/fmod/lib/linux64$ dpkg -S libfmodex64-4.28.09.so dpkg: libfmodex64-4.28.09.so not found. It gives above result. Also my application requires java 1.5 to be installed in order for it to run. How do I specify in my debian package. Thanks, AJ

• Installing my sdist from PyPI puts the files in the wrong places

  Hey. My problem is that when I upload my Python package to PyPI, and then install it from there using pip, my app breaks because it installs my files into completely different locations than when I simply install the exact same package from a local sdist. Installing from the local sdist puts files on my system like this: /Python27/ Lib/ site-packages/ gloopy-0.1.alpha-py2.7.egg/ (egg and install info files) data/ (images and shader source) doc/ (html) examples/ (.py scripts that use the library) gloopy/ (source) This is much as I'd expect, and works fine (e.g. my source can find my data dir, because they lie next to each other, just like they do in development.) If I upload the same sdist to PyPI and then install it from there, using pip, then things look very different: /Python27/ data/ (images and shader source) doc/ (html) Lib/ site-packages/ gloopy-0.1.alpha-py2.7.egg/ (egg and install info files) gloopy/ (source files) examples/ (.py scripts that use the library) This doesn't work at all - my app can't find its data files, plus obviously it's a mess, polluting the top-level /python27 directory with all my junk. What am I doing wrong? How do I make the pip install behave like the local sdist install? Is that even what I should be trying to achieve? Details I have setuptools installed, and also distribute, and I'm calling distribute_setup.use_setuptools() WindowsXP, Python2.7. My development directory looks like this: /gloopy /data (image files and GLSL shader souce read at runtime) /doc (html files) /examples (some scripts to show off the library) /gloopy (the library itself) My MANIFEST.in mentions all the files I want to be included in the sdist, including everything in the data, examples and doc directories: recursive-include data *.* recursive-include examples *.py recursive-include doc/html *.html *.css *.js *.png include LICENSE.txt include TODO.txt My setup.py is quite verbose, but I guess the best thing is to include it here, right? I also includes duplicate references to the same data / doc / examples directories as are mentioned in the MANIFEST.in, because I understand this is required in order for these files to be copied from the sdist to the system during install. • How to Detect Right Click on the Taskbar

  I've got a Windows Forms application in C# that starts off with a loading dialog. As expected, a button for the app shows up in the Windows taskbar. I would like to detect right-clicks that might be done to that button. Ultimately, I hope to disable the right-click or simply have the loading dialog regain focus. I've seen that some people use custom libraries and packages (interop, for example) to achieve some Win32 functionality, but I'd personally like to avoid this. Is it impossible to do without such libraries/packages?

  I've seen examples online of people using __getattr__ with Django models, but whenever I try I get errors. (Django 1.2.3) I don't have any problems when I am using __getattr__ on normal objects.   I am trying to run django on osx 10.7 (lion) with apache mod_wsgi and virtualenv. My site works if I use the django testing server: (baseline)otter:hello mathew$ python manage.py runserver but it doesn't work when I run apache. • Convert local time (10 digit number) to a readable datetime format

  Hey all, I'm working with pbx for voip calls. One aspect of pbx is that you can choose to receive CDR packages. Those packages have 2 timestamps : "utc" and "local", but both seem to always be the same. Here's an example of a timestamp : "1268927156". At first sight, there seems to be no logic in it. So i tried converting it several ways, but with no good result. That value should provide a time around 11am (+1GMT) today. Things i tried: Datetime dt = new Datetime(number); Timespan ts = new Timespan(number); DateTime utc = new DateTime(number + 504911232000000000, DateTimeKind.Utc) and some others i can't remember right now. Am i missing something stupid here? Thanks in advance

• Executing a DTS package from Sql Server 2005

  I am trying to run several DTS packages from a sql 2000 box. The DTS calls will originate from .net 2.0 - 3.5 code. I have been unable to find a good way to programmatically accomplish this. What I have read is running a sql job from a stored procedure that calls the DTS package. Does anyone has any experience with this or know of a good way to call the DTS? Note: For the forseeable future these packages will remain DTS. Eventually we will convert them to SSIS. Any insight or experience would be very helpful.
